Internal Affairs Minister Henrik Petersen launches probe into the Satanilic Republican Party
With the passage of the Protection of Democracy Act last year, instability has eased, however with the unexpected reformation of the Satanilic Republican Party, current Minister of Internal Affairs, Henrik Petersen has laid the groundwork for a probe into the party.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

After the Protection of Democracy Act was passed unanimously by the Folketinget after a wave of hardline Satanilist demonstrations against the government turned deadly in the form of two separate terrorist attacks last year, local and national police forces received further help in dispatching of such activities, contributing to a significant drop in terrorism for the remainder of last year, as well as into this year. However, the reformation of the Satanilic Republican Party, a political organization with a dubious reputation for well over millennia, has cast concern among MPs of the DFP-led majority government, prompting another reevaluation by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, specifically the Office of Investigative Services in the form of an official probe of the party.

Launching a press conference inside his building's press room, Internal Affairs Minister Henrik Petersen called the probe "absolutely necessary" for the retaining of Davostan's young democracy, of which the majority government is still liberalizing several aspects of the nation in a bid to formally rid the previous dictatorship from memory. Such news has already reportedly angered those affiliated with the SRP. Petersen met such concerns, stating "By no means are we to heavy-hand this investigation. A probe such as this shall be executed with the full fairness of the law." After clearing the air of the concerns some had expressed, Petersen explicitly laid out which aspects of the SRP were to be the central focus of the probe.

"We shall focus on several key aspects with regards to the Satanilic Republican Party. Specifically, the stated goals of the party, their global party affiliations, and their past actions as well as legislation. Viewing their global affiliations can greatly help us determine connections they may possibly have within Davostan proper, and whether or not these terrorist organizations which had caused last year's attacks acted in defense of their ideals, or were directed by the SRP themselves." He then went on to explicitly state that no bias shall be applied to such investigations. "At this very moment, the Satanilic Republican Party is innocent of any wrongdoing. Such may change as our probe continues over the coming months, but if we are to openly accuse them of being guilty before proven innocent, then we are no more better than the dictatorships our government has worked so hard to move away from."

"We must ensure that our democracy and it's institutions are not under threat," Petersen stated in a press conference today. "The reemergence of this party, knowing it's history, is of much interest to our office."

After brief probe, Internal Affairs Minister Petersen moves to declare SRP illegal under Protection of Democracy Act
Despite receiving criticism from mostly Satanailist organizations, more than a few being associated with the old regime, Petersen rebuked such remarks, stating "The brief nature of this probe is clear to anyone—The stated intent, and international affiliation of the SRP makes it clear that they serve no purpose but to restore the previous dictatorship."
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

In the late morning of today, Internal Affairs Minister Henrik Petersen addressed the Folketinget in a public hearing, unveiling his office's complete findings with regards to their six month probe of the Satanailic Republican Party, a party which is the oldest existing political organization on the continent of Makon—And perhaps Terra. However Petersen made it clear that seniority of an organization, even if it is millennia old, resolves it of justice. Stacks upon stacks of materials collected by his office were presented before MPs and an oversight committee formed with regards to the matter, despite Petersen describing the writing on the wall being quite obvious.

"Presented before this legislature is materials which in detail outline the clear intentions of the Satanailic Republican Party," Petersen stated before the committee alongside MPs. "This party, through it's international affiliations and long-professed goals, alongside legislation introduced under their many governments in the past makes it clear that they wish to uphold their theocratic, rabidly authoritarian regime by any means necessary, no matter who or what is caught in the crossfire." The Internal Affairs Minister went on to present graphics of the many organizations the party held membership and even leadership in before the Folketinget, with the committee "deeply disturbed" by the information.

Most telling was the party's position as a leader of the Dictator's Club, an international organization composed almost entirely of anti-democratic and authoritarian parties. To a lesser note was their leadership within the United Nationalists organization, which also had a significant number of authoritarian organizations within it. More alarmingly however was the SRP's sole leadership of the Fascist International Social Movement, or FISM, which drew concerned reactions from all MPs present. Many more organizations that the SRP held leadership in, such as the Brotherhood of Terror and Virtue were shown before the Folketinget by Petersen. Moving towards legislation that the party had supported or introduced in centuries past, with the most stark being their support for a "Concentration Camp Bill" immediately summing up Petersen's probe, alongside the final verdict of his office and the oversight committee.

Within only 30 minutes of voting on a final resolution with regards to the findings of the probe, the freshly-assembled 13 member oversight committee voted 13-0 in approval of declaring the reformation of the illegal under the Protection of Democracy Act, alongside declaring the party itself unlawful under the same legislation. In mere hours after the final vote, numerous hardline Satanailist political organizations took to the streets of major cities within Davostan to voice their sharp displeasure for the outcome, despite them being unlawful. Reports of clashes between police and the demonstrators have already made their way upon social media, with Prime Minister Mortensen posting his deepest disappointment for what seems to be another rise in instability, with only a year before the spring elections.

Military descends upon Davos and other cities in Davostan as unrest reaches it's peak mere weeks before elections
With several cities in Davostan erupting in total violence for months following the declaration of the SRP as illegal by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the military has moved to lock down several major cities in the region.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Instability once more flared up as the Internal Affairs Ministry ruled that the reformation of the Satanailic Republican Party was illegal, citing the party's goals, affiliations, and past support for extremely authoritarian legislation as a clear indicator that if the SRP was allowed to continue it's existence, democracy in both Davostan and Kivonia would see itself swept under the rug. But none could predict the sheer scale of violence that has erupted in the north following such a ruling, first showing itself in the summer, and gradually increasing into nonstop destruction and the complete degradation of order that the region finds itself in this month.

With local police forces having been assisted in part by the national military in cities over the previous few months, the army itself has now been fully dispatched to effectively lock down the areas that had been hit hardest by harsh anti-government violence. Mechanized forces were captured by onlookers on social media driving into the Province of Tarkut, with reports also stating that marine units had been dispatched to the island Provinces of St. Muron and Davoya, long thought to be the strongest base of support for hardline and authoritarian Satanailist groups. Already dozens of videos from citizens have made their way to social media, with many describing Davos and Fort St. Muron as "war-zones", with gunshots echoing long throughout the night alongside shouting from both police and anti-government insurrectionists.

The Folketinget had reportedly convened in an emergency session once more, last occurring during the deadly attacks two years ago. After some time of delegations, the ruling DFP government issued states of emergency in both Armonde and Taramha, stating that if the instability in the north continues, then the south and the nation's capital should take all precautions to remain unscathed. MPs also agreed upon upholding Article III of the Protection of Democracy Act, which reinforced the extremely broad powers of the national police with regards to arrests, alongside being able to patrol all property at all times. "Make no mistake," PM Mortensen stated in an emergency press conference outside the steps of the Folketinget. "We will assure an end to this violence, by any means necessary. If these groups which are so dedicated to the return of their theocratic state, of which democracy was frankly unheard of, then by God we're going to fight with everything that we have to ensure their failure. Democracy will not falter in this nation—Not now, and not ever again in the foreseeable future."

Numerous reports have already began circulating that the military has began moving in on key areas that had been the targets of fierce insurrection from anti-government Satanailist groups, however the success of these operations is currently unknown. Further updates shall be reported as the operations progress.

Samlingspartiet backs government crackdown

Image

The Chairman of Samlingspartiet, Mogens Mortensen, has publicly announced his and his party's support for the hard line taken by the government against Satanilic groups. Speaking at a press conference at party headquarters in Kivonia, Mr Mortensen stated the following:

"In a free society, the State must exercise its monopoly on violence with the utmost restraint; this restraint, however, may never be taken so far as to render democracy incapable of defending itself from authoritarian threats. We are now facing a situation of the utmost urgency. There is little doubt that, behind a thin veneer of legality, the SRP is actively striving to repeat the past by undermining our still fragile democratic order, with the goal of substituting a totalitarian theocracy for our freedoms. Therefore, we applaud the government's determination to see order and justice restored."

DFP refuses to concede Spring election, PM Mortensen declares SRP surge a "dubious coup"
Despite the SRP being fully declared illegal last year by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the party has refused to submit to federal authorities, and has suspiciously surged in the recent elections, prompting the DFP to immediately refuse conceding the results, alongside PM Mortensen declaring such results as a coup.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

With clashes still regularly occurring in the north, the relatively stable south following the reinforcement of the region via police and military presences in major cities has had a shadow of uncertainty cast over such efforts, with the spring elections resulting in a highly suspicious surge of support for the Satanailic Republican Party, with many lawmakers wondering even why the party was able to run local candidates and achieve deputies to the legislature, despite being declared fully illegal by the Ministry of Internal Affairs last year. It took little time for the DFP's current leader, Philip Ludvigsen to refuse to concede the election's results, with the Prime Minister declaring such actions as a "dubious coup", one he states was executed in a desperate final attempt to reestablish the former "Unholy Imperium" of Davostan.

Alongside such an outcome was the backing of the Samlingspartiet of the actions of the national military and police forces early last spring in locking down major areas of unrest in Davostan, with support further coming in the form of an offer of forming a "Democratic Front" against the Satanailist threat, seen as a unity cabinet by many MPs. In a public address to the Folketinget this afternoon, PM Mortensen commended the Samlingspartiet for holding the shared belief of the continuation of democracy, alongside extending an offer of their own to negotiate the formation of a unity coalition within parliament to thwart any illegally achieved MPs of the SRP from entering the building.

In his speech, Mortensen also stated that he would be further reinforcing the south, as well as the nation's capital. Already detachments of the military have been sent to major cities in Armonde, as well as Taramha. Major government offices were also among the locations the Prime Minister enlisted military units to secure, alongside the national legislature. "We will not let our values be trampled over like a common house rug," Mortensen boomed before deputies of the legislature. "We shall let none of their coup orchestrators set foot in these respected halls—Lest they have to pry access from our weary hands."

Despite being illegal, a response from the Satanailic Republican Party has yet to be observed by news outlets. Tensions ride high, both in Kivonia and the north, as both sides seem to be setting the stage for what could perhaps be an open civil war if such conditions continue, as several political analysts have theorized.

Armed forces report "significant victories" in Davostan as mass arrests of Satanailist political groups occur
A statement from the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces has reported "significant victories" with regards to hardline Satanailist groups, as mass arrests of the Satanailic Republican Party are conducted at the behest of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Due the SRP being silent in it's repeated calls to voluntarily disband itself by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the gloves reportedly came off for Henrik Petersen, as he recently executed mass arrests of "deputies" of the SRP, who'd continously attempted to gain access to the Folketinget but were thankfully stopped by both MPs of the DFP and the Samlingspartiet. The police were utilized for the first time instead of the military, despite legally being the only entity with powers of arrest. Such powers were granted by the current Minister of Justice, Kristófer Ólíversson ahead of currently introduced legislation on behalf of the DFP, which devolved such powers back to local and national police forces.

As successes come flowing in to Internal Affairs Minister Petersen's office, likewise, a similar scene is appearing in the north as Kaspar Sørensen, the current Chief of Staff of the Davostani Armed Forces reported "significant victories" during a press conference in the secured city of Varrato. "I can say with certainty that we're seeing the routing of these insurrectionists to the deepest corners of the region," Sørensen stated to reporters. "However that doesn't mean the fight is over, despite gunfire falling silent for the first time in months over Davos. An increased police presence in the immediate days after calm has been secured over Davostan, like it has today, is critical—Alongside the necessary matters of reconstruction and rehabilitation of any displaced persons in this conflict."

With peace returning to the nation under the Protection of Democracy Act, the DFP once more enters into a majority, if albeit at the helm of a minority government at 119 seats. The office of President currently sits vacant, although nominal executive duties have been vested in Prime Minister Mortensen. With regards to reforms, MPs of the DFP are practically licking their lips as interruptions have effectively been removed considerably. The DFP prior to the slew of instability over the past six years promoted a strong platform of free trade and enshrining a welfare state, alongside strengthening religious freedom for both major groups in the nation, so long as they are not authoritarian in nature.

"Currently, we see that peace has returned to the north. Citizens can now return to their homes, assess any possible damage, and possibly seek missing loved ones," the Prime Minister stated to an opening session of the Folketinget. "Today is the first in a new era for our nation—One where the only direction to go is forward, and opening ourselves to the world after years of selfish isolation."

Ministry of Finance to introduce tax reform, alongside major revamping of the national budget
In a move aimed at largely promoting entrepreneurship, current Finance Minister Ludvig Therkelsen has proposed significant tax reform before the legislature, alongside a hefty revamping of the national budget.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

After having been sidelined with the constant threat of Satanailist political organizations seeking violence and harm upon the country, the fate of further democratization, specifically with regards to the national economy, had laid in a state of limbo for practically years since the DFP's entrance into national politics. But with the military beginning to trickle out of the north as police forces return to their associated stations, the Folketinget has introduced a slew of legislation immediately following the apprehension of illegally-gained MPs from the Satanailic Republican Party, utilizing their majority within the current minority government to the fullest. Such reforms were not limited to political and social, but also economical.

Recently sent before the floor of Parliament from the office of Finance Minister Therkelsen were reforms largely overhauling the current income tax figures for the nation, drastically liberalizing what had been seen for many years as "overaggressive taxation" by both sides of the aisle. Putting forth much more simplified and fairer brackets, Therkelsen states that the reduced tax revenue will "hardly affect" the effectiveness of the government, following up such concerns with another piece of legislation, in the form of a significant revamping of the national budget.

Slashing several offices from aggressively high amounts of funding, Therkelsen stated that the major reduction in the budget of the Defense Ministry, which at the time of this publication sits at an astounding 5 trillion Davosti, perhaps the highest amount spent on defense in the world, would open up an "incredible" monetary surplus, one that is especially needed in a time where many areas in the north have been ravaged by religious violence. Despite the surplus however, Therkelsen left a considerably hefty budget for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, with hope to utilize their expenses chiefly with regards to reconstruction of the areas most severely affected by such instability.

"To spend that much on the matter of defense, when our nation has not had any clear enemies for centuries, even if we were ruled by a theocratic, Satanailist dictatorship, is ludicrous. Something must change—Especially as our citizens in the north watch, some with bated breath, our actions with regards to cleaning up the mess that the previous years of violence have caused."

Ludvig Therkelsen
Minister of Finance

With such reforms seemingly set to be passed by the Folketinget, although votes from MPs of the Samlingspartiet have yet to be seen, FM Therkelsen stated his "great excitement" for the prospect of free trade now that the economy is slowly warming up once more to investors. "As our democratic institutions have warded off the dark clouds of theocracy and authoritarianism, our country now stands at the chance to greatly succeed with regards to developing an economy once again—Alongside opening our nation to foreign markets and vice-versa."

Philip Ludvigsen steps down as DFP leader, party sees surge in further progressivism in primaries
With the decade-long term of the Demokratisk Folkepartiet's founder and leader, Philip Ludvigsen coming to an end by way of his stepping down as leader, citing a desire to focus on more personal matters and more local politics, The primaries that were launched following his resignation have seen a surge in more progressive thinking, in an already socially-liberal party.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

After having lead the party for a decade since it's founding in 4687, Philip Ludvigsen announced earlier this month his intentions to step down from the leadership of the Demokratisk Folkepartiet, citing a desire to focus more on his personal life and more local politics. "There's definitely been a lot of good our party has done," Ludvigsen stated in a television interview last week. "Democracy has returned, we've braved the storm of instability that came with that, and our party continues to introduce legislation with freedom at it's core. Our nation is now at a watershed moment, but I feel that I wanted to focus more on my own life outside politics. I've been absent from home for quite some time — practically living out of my office during the height of our country's instability with those Satanailist groups. I have a wife and two daughters to look up to, share the world with, and I think that's where I fit best nowadays. Alongside focusing on more... Local politics. Less heat than national, I'd say [Ludvigsen laughs]."

With the vacancy that has now been created by Ludvigsen's resignation, the office of Leader was temporarily held by the DFP's Chairman, Johannes Thøgersen. His first act was the announcement of both primaries for the office alongside normal party elections, the first of such since the party's founding. With the deft handling of authoritarian Satanailist groups who sought violence against the government for the past few years, the general elections for the DFP saw a surge in more left-wing factions competing for the dominant force behind party doctrine. Eventually as the last votes were counted, the general elections resulted in a firm victory for the social democratic faction, headed by Oda Hemmingsen, a Kivonian-born Davostani of both Skjöld and Davostani ancestry. Hemmingsen also put forth her candidacy for leadership of the DFP, contesting a fairly short field of candidates before also securing the post.

A staunch social democrat, she spoke at length about the future of the party, specifically with regards to domestic and foreign policy for the nation at large. Key takeaways included an emphasis on improving national infrastructure via the construction of new roadways alongside the revamping of older ones, the overseeing of hefty reconstruction projects in Davostan, a drive to firmly establish a new economy for the nation, and a commitment to forge new economic alliances with major nations of Terra. Most interestingly was Hemmingsen's statement of cooperation with the United Greens faction, specifically with the focus to pursue more green energy policies and to possibly reach 100% sustainable energy in the coming decades. Hemmingsen also discussed the desire to formally see Article III of the Protection of Democracy Act repealed, which reinforced the powers of the police, alongside allowing intervention in their operations by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Most interestingly of Hemmingsen's speech came at it's conclusion — Where she discussed the strong desire to see official law be crafted which preserved the religious freedoms of Satanailist groups so long as they were not tied to the previous regime or are supportive of it. "Whilst it was believers in such a faith that instigated terrorism in our nation, and sought to undermine our democracy, we must recognize that these were only a select few of the Satanailist-practicing populace of our nation," Hemmingsen stated. "Their views are exclusive to only themselves—The rest of them have a solemn right to see their religion be allowed to be practiced without fear, their traditions, customs and culture also upheld by national law. With myself at the helm, you can make sure such rights are formally granted to these religious groups, so long as they are peaceful in nature, and were not tied to the previous theocracy."

DFP sees historic losses in May elections, Party Leader Hemmingsen voices “disappointment” in recent defense budget hike
With the feeling for more progressivism being largely given the cold shoulder by the voting populace, the more left-wing shift of the DFP has resulted in a disastrous showing for the DFP in elections of the Folketinget, earning the Samlingspartiet a firm supermajority.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The DFP had made sure to navigate itself carefully during the time it held a majority within the post-Satanailic Republican Party government, in which a minority legislature was effectively the government prior to last month's elections. In that time, the Mortensen cabinet alongside the DFP's deputies within the Folketinget passed numerous reforms, the most significant of which being tax and budgetary reform. Alongside those financial changes came more reforms in the matter of restoring civil liberties, advancing progressive policy, and repealing Article III of the Protection of Democracy Act, which granted the Ministry of Internal Affairs large authority over national and provincial police forces. In fact the DFP has still continued introducing reforms, most recently in it's major legislation, the Religious Freedoms and Cultural Protections Act, a frequently-discussed bill by policy organizers of the party.

Such carefulness resulted in amicable relations with the Samlingspartiet, as the two had vaguely governed jointly under a unity coalition during the time that the SRP illegally seized power. But with the conclusion of last month's elections, many DFP deputies as well as the party's Leader felt stung at the SP's formation of a single-party cabinet rather than a coalition, alongside the steep increasing of various elements of the national budget. Most notably, and most criticized by Oda Hemmingsen was the large hike in the national defense budget, which had previously gone from 50 million Davosti to an astounding 500 billion. The SP had also introduced such changes during a significant recess of the Folketinget, resulting in many of the DFP's deputies being unable to even vote on such proposals. "I cannot help but feel incredibly disappointed with the surge in funding for the defense budget," Hemmingsen stated during a livestream from her office. "Davostan has no threats, no adversaries, so why should we be pumping that much money into it? It's unnecessary, and taxpayers should see their money be going to more useful elements of our government."

Despite her disappointment, Hemmingsen did state her approval in more funds for the Ministries of Health and Social Services, Science and Technology, alongside Infrastructure and Transport. "Even though we differ sharply on the matter of defense, I do thank the Samlingspartiet for investing in our social services, alongside infrastructure. Our nation's roads are in deep need of revitalization, and reconstruction is a much-needed effort for the north." Regardless as to the public's opinion of the DFP's more social-democratic shift prior the May elections, Hemmingsen remained firm in her commitment of the party's original values, alongside more traditional policies found in social democracy. "This is merely a stumble, not a fall — If we are to brush ourselves off and keep going, then we'll continue to see success."

DFP leader Oda Hemmingsen lands party's nomination for PM in landslide victory
Despite other candidacies within the other factions of the DFP being declared, Oda Hemmingsen had won her party's nomination for PM in a landslide victory. She plans to actively campaign over the coming months.

Although there was some benefit of the doubt given to other candidates from the various wings of the DFP for the nomination of Prime Minister, in an outcome that left few surprised, Oda Hemmingsen, the current leader of the party had won the nomination by a landslide victory. Citing the ability to rally the party's faction of Greens behind her platform as the driving factor behind her victory, Hemmingsen thanked her fellow party members for not only placing their faith in her during her tenure as Leader of the DFP, of which she made herself known for her fierce defense of the party's values alongside more left-wing policies, but also gave thanks for bestowing the nomination upon her.

Wasting no time in outlining an election platform, one that many see as being even more progressive than her previously stated policies, she remarked that the elections in May would be a "true test" of the will of the nation, especially true with the recent legislation passed by the ruling Samlingspartiet, which controversially criminalized the refusal of military service, a move which greatly outraged many politicians and citizens. Demonstrations against the bill were even reported in the capital, and various other cities. Hemmingsen's aforementioned platform consisted mainly of the entrenchment of a long-supported policy of diplomatic neutrality in major global affairs, which in recent polls had seen an astounding 67% of the population showing support. Other policies included a commitment to achieving full, 100% renewable energy by the next three decades, the mass repeal of current economic legislation passed under the SP government, which many middle-class workers see as unfair, working to diversify the national economy, and significant infrastructure reform.

Oda Hemmingsen wrote:These elections in May will be a true test for the will of our nation. We have seen a party whom we once could've called an ally unbelievably criminalizing the right to refuse military service. It's shameful, against the rights of the individual, and should be the absolute goal of our party to see it repealed swiftly. We've seen the SP so egregiously ratchet up the defense budget, when our nation hasn't and likely never will see rivals, or enemies in any of our lifetimes, and we've hardly seen any initiative be taken from the SP to improve our national infrastructure, as well as witnessing the fostering of a diverse economy.

Well I believe now is certainly the time for change. Now is the moment at which we will finally see action once more from within our own government, instead of the slashing of labor reforms instituted under former PM Mortensen's administration, and unnecessary spending. However, only such change can be seen if the public wills it — So for the sake of our nation, the sake of seeing a brighter future, do vote this coming May.
