Liberal Party declares victory

The recent Voronan elections have given the Liberal party control.

Image
Party leader, Jermaine Nelson giving his speech.

With the recent Voronan elections out of the way, the struggling democracy has elected its party to take the stage. The Liberal Party, run by party leader, Jermaine Nelson.

The parties platform promised political reforms like a 100 seat change, social freedoms like LGBT rights for all and a firm promise to fix the broken economy through capitalism and private investment. Unfortunately, due to the lacking quantity of parties, the turnout rested at only 15% stating only 4.7 million citizens voted out of a total of 39 million.

Liberals promise change

With the elections done, the party has begun major changes already.

Within mere hours of the election victory, the party has begun work in fixing the economy. With the propositions of a new budget which outlined the following changes.
    Head of Government: 0 DNT
    Interior Affairs: 0 DNT
    Foreign Affirs: 0 DNT
    Finance: 100,000 DNT
    Defense: 0 DNT
    Justice: 100,000 DNT
    Infrastructure and Transport: 100,000 DNT
Health and Social Services: 0 DNT
    Education and Culture: 100,000 DNT
    Science and Technology: 0 DNT
    Food and Agriculture: 0 DNT
    Environment and Tourism: 0 DNT
    Trade and Industry: 100,000 DNT
This budget entirely cuts the funding of several key departments, which the party justified by saying this,
"We have literally no money. Taxes bring in very little and the money we do have, is from loans and foreign aid. We have no money, we cannot afford the luxury departments like defense, like the environment. We have to commit to this level of austerity to properly finance the nation."

The statements were later confirmed true, that this budget would benefit the nation. As within the passing of the bill, corporation tax revenue increased by a considerable amount within hours. The subsidisation of businesses improved the economy.

The nation also declared a new flat rate tax system which would charge every single person 1% of their income. But unfortunately, this change continues to bring in no money at all.

But how will the governments new budgets and tax system benefit the nation? Only time will tell.

Monarchist Protests as Monarchy is disolved

In a recent parliamentary vote, the Voronan Monarchy was disposed of and replaced with a Presidency.

The Liberal Party recently declared a vote to remove the current monarch from power and replace his role with a President. The vote was successful and the Monarchy was dissolved and left to rot, making former King Konrad III no longer in power.

But, despite the Liberals success in disposing the Monarchy, many citizens still have sympathies for Konrad III and the Monarchy itself, this has let the foundation of the paramilitary group called "Voronan Vanguard" filled with radical right-wing Monarchists.

Will this be the beginning of the Liberal collapse? Will a new pro-Monarchist party emerge and attempt to take the parliament? Only time can tell...

Military Coup Overthrows Socialist Government
Deltaria Nova News Agency
2 October, 4130

Today a group of high-ranking officers led by General Bodgan Raceanu declared a state of martial law and put the socialist leadership under arrest. A provisional government called the Commitee for National Restoration is being set up to safeguard the conservative counter-revolution and stamp out socialist activity in Vorona. Civil rights have been temporarily suspended in order to process trouble-makers, and plans are already under way to privatize state owned farms, industries and housing.

The military government says that it is seeking to establish normal diplomatic relations with other nations as soon as possible.

Large-scale privatizations attracts investment
Deltaria Nova News Agency
23 September, 4131

Earlier this year the Commitee privatized state-owned factories, farms and housing by making the employees and tenants share-holders. With private enterprise now legal, and with among the world's lowest tax rates, foreign investors are flocking to Vorona hoping to do business. The government still allows investments on a case-by-case basis and the Foreign Investment Department has trouble keeping up with the new requests. The Commitee has announced that foreign investments will soon be deregulated. Economists are predicting explosive development in the coming decades.

Monarchy to be restored
Deltaria Nova News Agency
8 April, 4132

After the communist revolution in 4122, the Grand Duke of Iassus, Andrej I of house Bratianu Rossetti, was forced into exile. Now the Commitee has declared him the rightful regent of Vorona again, and a ceremony welcoming his return to the throne is being planned. Other features of the old monarchy will be restored in the future, such as the traditional role of the Grand Duchess of Bostosan as Head of Government, but the Commitee maintains that the military dictatorship can not yet be dissolved.

OOC: I'm new to Particracy so my next question might be considered "obvious" to others, but please bare with me. Since Vorona is controlled by the military government (which is being RP by Hrafn) and media is state-controlled, should I post my opposition news in this thread, or create my own party-base newspaper? If anyone is confused, I am the Liberty League. RP-wise, the government would let me post in "their" paper. But maybe this thread is for any and all parties?

OOC: You can post in this thread, just don't criticize the government too harshly or you will be arrested! J/K ;) Generally all news relating to a nation is posted in the same thread, but some people choose to refer to a party outlet. For example, you could write "Reproduced from Liberty Daily" above the headline when it is coming from your party.
You may be interested in knowing that I've been planning for the military junta to stand down in a few years (in-game years that is) so you arrived in a good time.

“Liberty Bills” Voted Down to the Man; Calls for Early Elections Fall on Deaf Ears

The Committee for National Restoration, which currently controls all seats in the national legislature, unanimously voted against every “Liberty Bill” that the Liberty League put before it. In response, supports of the Liberty League and Mr. Szilágyi himself called for early elections. Unsurprisingly, the Committee for National Restoration voted against such a measure. Mr. Szilágyi was heard to say: “We [the Liberty League] are not deterred, and shall continue pushing for freedom even if we must wait until the regularly scheduled elections in July of 4137”.

Szilágyi: Monarchy is a Key Component of Vorona

When asked today in a local press conference on whether or not Mr. Szilágyi and the Liberty League supported the monarchy, Mr. Szilágyi confirmed his support for the longstanding institution.

Mr. Szilágyi was heard to say: “The monarchy is a key component of Vorona. To dissolve the monarchy would to dissolve our culture”. Some take this as a sign of Mr. Szilágyi trying to gain popularity within the military.

Vorona to hold elections
Deltaria Nova News Agency
9 June, 4136

The Commitee for National Restoration has decided that the election scheduled for 1 July next year will be held, ending 7 years of martial rule. General Raceanu made this declaration in a public speech in the capital city of Iassus today, where he stated that "[his] work is done" and that he looks forward to retire from service. The Commitee has called various interest groups, including the Liberty League, to help write a new constitution that would bring stability to Vorona. So far what is known is that the Duchess of Bostosan will regain her position as head of cabinet, and will appoint ministers with the agreement of a senate, which will have 399 elected members. Freedom of speech and the right to organize will be introduced.

In addition to the Liberty League, a hardline conservative party is being organized, with some of the leadership coming from the lower ranks of the CRN itself. What the actual policy difference between the two parties will be is fuzzy at this point. So far there are no signs that any kind of left-wing ideas will take hold in Vorona.

Antonio Szilágyi Formally Concedes 4137 General Election: Questionable Electoral Results will not be Challenged in Court

Image
Antonio Szilágyi giving his concession speech two days after election day.

Antonio Szilágyi, Leader of the Liberty League, formally conceded the 4137 General Election today in a speech:

“My friends,

While the results of the most recent general election have been most disappointing. We, the People of the Grand Duchy of Vorona, should not despair. The 4137 General Election has resulted in seven years of military-rule coming to an end.

Our nation will no longer be ruled by generals, but by representatives who are answerable to the will of the people. A civilian government will lead us into the future; and while this new government will not be led by the Liberty League, it is clear that the presence of our party ensured that the military had to give way.

No doubt there were many who would hope that I would challenge the unusual election results that came out of Munteneia. Yet I will not do so. Not because I believe a turnout of 0.10% in Munteneia in favor of the League is legitimate – far from it. But I refuse to challenge the election results so our country can heal. Seven years of military-rule and Communist misrule before that, have caused many scars, and I will not add more scars as a result of this election.

The fact that nation will no longer be ruled by the military is progress. Though it is not as much progress as many will have hoped, in a world full of dangerous, we must be realist. I will be happy to work with the new administration for the betterment of our nation.

Before I depart, I want to thank my family, friends, and all those who honored me with their vote. I hope to see you all in six years time and may God watch over us all!”

While the League secured 27 of the 75 seats in the Senatul Voronei, it sadly underperformed -- with experts claiming that the Liberty League would be able singlehandedly form a new government. Many believe the results in the Județ of Munteneia where manipulated by the military to throw the election in favor of League League’s opponent.
