Deltaria's 'finest' take over
The nobility of Deltaria. Few other bodies or groups are more divisive in public opinion than they. Workshy leeches or prestigious upholders of Deltarian traditions. Their story is that of a wheel of fortune itself. Up one time, down another and back again. This time, they are in ascent once again.
Deltaria's finest have stepped in to stop what they call 'Pápežsky socialism' from developing further. The impending nationalisation of land and the largest corporations in the country was viewed as an attack on the nobility as a body and as it loves to see itself - the holders of the keys of stability in the country. It was the Palatine of the Apostolic Palace Vojvoda Tankréd z Ohnivý who ordered palace servants to arrest the Pápež Mircea I. Having dismissed all his staff and most of his Dissuwan Guard, the 80 year old Pápež was easy prey. It was under confinement that the Pápež issued a Bull appointing the Vojvoda as Palatine of not just the Palace but the entirety of the Pápežský States. At the same time dozens of noble allies moved to secure strategic points across the country and the noble dominated Army officers rolled their eyes.
Vojvoda Ohnivý
The Vojvoda's palace coup was not a surprise to most Deltarians - indeed many wondered when the nobility would intervene. It came with the grudging support of the middle class, frustrated at higher taxes and the strict moral laws imposed by the Church. The Vojvoda announced a government dominated by fellow nobles. He has been careful to appear not to abuse the Pápež and had placed him in comfortable quarters. The Pápež and his Kardinals have all been confined to the Apostolic Palace yet the Vojvoda insists that the country remains the same. He received foreign diplomats explaining the situation and still referred to the country as the Pápežský States.
