OOC Source: EuronewsCachtice: It is crisis in Deltaria. Just two weeks ago Federal President Radim Dvořák had, with military backing, disbanded the FSC and arrested its judges, pledging to assign his own slate of judges to the court. But that was not all. The president, emboldened by his seemingly strong grip on power, had the military station themselves all accross the country and primarily in the major cities in what later became clear was a attempted coup. Hundreds of thousands swarmed the capital of Cachtice in a show of defiance against the president and his "tyranical" government. It was a sight rarely seen in Deltaria with even former SDS supporters waving flags of the Federation, a sign that they were done. The military at first tried dispersing crowds with tear gass but after 2 days it became clear the situation was not holdable. While in Deltaria's history the military had put down uprisings with a firm hand they were stagnant this time around, even when ordered by Dvořák to open fire on the crowd. The soldiers seemed uneasy, many not wanting to hurt the people they swore to protect. And when it became clear their soldiers werent willing to fire the command of the military listened, ordering most forces to withdraw from government buildings, instead directing them to the presidential palace. Dvořák did not know what was happening, seeing hundreds of army vehicles unload in front of the palace with thousands of protestors in front of the gate. But after 5 days of a tense standoff and the military backing the president units of army soldiers stormed the palace, first encountering some SUVO ressistance but, after two hours, the SUVO agents struck a deal with the military and let them through. They proceeded in arresting Dvořák for high treason, disbanding the government.
Army General Bonifác Janeček then adressed the crowd in front of the palace, saying:
We heard your cries for democracy. Your hopes for a better future, a future where we learn from the mistakes of the past. I stand here before you today to announce that we have dismissed the government and arrested former president Dvořák on charges of high treason. We, as the military, will establish a provisional government for the next 30 days. After those 30 days a All-Deltarian election shall be organized, electing a new president and parliament. The military hereby bars former president Dvořák from running again and will put him on trial in a military court
The crowds cheered, with millions celebrating on the streets and oppossition parties praising the military for its reversal of stance. One major difference this time around was the civil disobedience, which saw hundreds of thousands on the streets, making it near impossible for the military to go against this show of force by the general population, deciding to turn on their president and instead choose for democracy.
The Army also raided over 100 SDS offices, confiscating documents and funds and arresting high ranking party members. The party was, by military order, disbanded two days after the arrest of Dvořák. The other government partner largely responsible for keeping Dvořák in power was left untouched, but the NVS leadership was questioned by military officers and SUVO agents. They are still expected to participate in the new election in their current form. It is a clear change of direction in Deltaria, which for centuries always chose authoritarianism when left with a choice. While the fragile Deltarian democracy was shaken, battered and left in the mud it has survived and it will be up to a new parliament and government to enact measures that prevent the events of the last 4 years from ever happening again.
