Shock Move as PBO Join the DDU

Image

The new leader of Pokret Bijeli Orao, Dimitrije Bilic, has announced in a shock move that an agreement has been reached with the governing party, Deltarijanska Demokratska Unija, to merge into the party, uniting Deltarian politics under the umbrella of one political party.

Bilic announced that the move had been approved by the PBO National Council in a 124 - 27 vote. Whilst the membership have not been consulted, there is no requirement for this to occur due to the National Council’s ultimate power over the party. The idea of joining the DDU had been a minority one within the party for over a year, but upon the election of Bilic and the seizure of power by the Bilic Brothers, has become more mainstream, and has now been brought to reality.

Bilic is not thought to have been initially favourable to the idea, however upon becoming leader he had surrounded himself by a number of people advocating for the move. One such individual who has been influential in pushing such a change is Igor Vlahović, one of Bilic’s initial appointments to the PBO National Council.

In an announcement, Bilic claimed that the PBO had become so fractured that the only way to stabilise the nationalist ideology and the White Eagle Movement was to join forces with the DDU. Upon joining, the PBO will become the largest faction, with Bilic claiming that he hopes this will give the movement significant influence within the party.

Bilic also announced that Pokret Bijeli Orao would remain as an internal pressure group within the DDU and would represent the interests of the new nationalist faction. The PBO National Council will be transformed into the outlet for this pressure group, with reforms being implemented to integrate into the party. All current PBO members will automatically receive DDU membership, and full participation and integration into the party should be expected.

This decision now makes Deltaria a united state, with a single political party. Some may argue that this is an achievement for the White Eagle Movement, with a strong leadership having been one of the desires of the PBO since its foundation. Others have expressed dismay at the merge, with some of the more extreme nationalists, including the runner-up for PBO leadership in February, Mirko Novak, having already announced their departure from the party. Whilst Bilic may have initially been reluctant to concede power, this merger could be seen as an overall victory for the movement.

DELTARIA LEAVES MSCO AND COMMITS TOT TOTAL NEUTRALITY

Čahtica: Feeling like its concerns arent being taken seriously, Deltaria has announced its departure from the MSCO in a major shift in foreign policy. So far, while being critical of the MSCO at times, the policy that the Deltarian establishment had focussed on was aimed at steering the MSCO from within and ensuring Deltarian and regional security concerns were being adressed. Recent years showed Deltaria's concerns being swept away, primarily as Beiteynu antagonized our Empire by stationing foreign troops around the entrance to the Majatran Sea. Refusal by Beiteynu to seriously engage to solve these concerns angered Čahtica, further increasing calls to take a different foreign policy approach. Seeing its opinion being ignored and its hands tied through its membership in the MSCO, Deltarian leadership and primarily Prime Minister Brozović made this now public decision to leave the regional security alliance. In the press conference announcing the decision, Brozović underlined the changing geopolitical landscape and Deltarian interests within it.

Our country, through its history and culture, has long been a proud defender of the Majatran Sea. While we have had our dark episodes, with autocratic regimes casting a shadow over the continent, recent history has shown Deltarian ambitions for peace and prosperity on our continent, with the principles of self determination and cooperation playing a important role. In the last few years, we have seen that our concerns have been swept away and ignored. Our warnings cast aside and our people worried. While we have tried to solve our differences, tried to work together, it seems that Deltaria can no longer remain in a organization that has turned its back on one of its founding members. We hold no grudge, and will continue to work with our regional partners, but our security concerns are better adressed independently as of now. Deltaria will leave the MSCO and hereby declares its absolute neutrality. The world is changing, and we are changing with it from a position of neutrality and cooperation. We welcome all nations to do bussiness with Deltaria, to visit our beautifull historical sights, to feel our hospitality. And to do so free of any power-bloc influence.

On questions whether Deltaria will join the Non Alligned Movement, the Prime Minister refused to comment, raising suspicions that Deltaria might indeed be eying membership of that organization. Meanwhile the paperwork for leaving the MSCO has been filed, with foreign minister Vučinić announcing Deltaria's departure from the organization this morning in the plenary session of the MSCC. A new chapter begins.

ONE STATE, ONE PARTY
February 24th 5461
Image
Union Hall, the place where the party held its extraorindary congress

Čahtica: Deltaria, a one party state, thats what headlines were filled with after the former White Eagle Movement merged into the ruling Deltarian Democratic Union, resulting in all congressional seats being occupied by the DDU. But while media, specifically from the left, tried to paint this development as Deltaria turning into a one party state, the reality is more complex. For example, the Deltarian constitution still allows for parties to register freely, both on the national and provincial level. Parties are allowed to participate in the elections and the High Electoral Court is seen as a independent, fair body. This allows for free and unrestricted elections, uncharacteristic for a "one party state". Secondly, all parties that have merged into the DDU in recent years did so voluntarily, with the believe that it would benefit Deltaria. The DDU itself is also a democratic party, with its positions being elected positions that are elected through party members. But the image to the outside remains the "one party state", a image worsened by a recently elected policy platform.

The party, in a extraordinary congress, welcomed the PBO into its ranks. In that same congress, a new party platform was enacted, which includes the ideology of "One State, One Party". This ideology, somewhat influenced by Deltarian Nationalism, calls for the party to be in tune with a wide majority of Deltarian citizens and to include factions and wings from all of the political spectrum. To this end, the party welcomes those seeking to merge with it, believing it strengthens its position and ability to govern. In this regard, the One State, One Party platform simply suggests that a party must never be homogenous and always consist of a wide variety of ideologies, allowing it to be relevant and susceptible to the concerns of all, not just their own supporters. But while elections are free, party registration is open and the state has made no moves to hinder political participation, it is a reality that only the DDU seems to be participating in federal politics. On the provincial level, apart from a party in Doron Akigo and Ushalande, the DDU also dominates the political landscape, suggesting that its "One State, One Party" ideology is not just fiction, but actually catching on with the wider public.

ZLATENICO OKO

INTERIOR BUYING DRONES

Interior Ministry, August 15, 5461: ZLATENICO OKO sources in the Interior Ministry indicate the Ministry has been wanting some unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for some time. Originally the thinking was they would be useful for border guards; when they became part of the armed forces the thinking shifted to the Anti Terror Unit of the Imperial Police.

Discussions have been going on with Broz Aircraft Corporation known for its trainer aircraft as well as its software, hardware and improvements to existing aircraft. Broz over time developed the Pegaz Which Interior has found suitable for its purposes and has ordered 40 to be delivered over the next 63 months.

The Pegaz UAV is 5.395 meters long with a wingspan of 7.025 meters. It is driven by a two bladed pusher propeller and has a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour and a maximum range of at least 250 kilometers.

The Pegaz weighs 120 kilograms and can carry a payload of 50 kilograms. It carries laser guide rockets. It can be put on autopilot to take off, take pictures, relay reconnaissance and land. Firing the rockets is done by the operator.

ZLATENICO OKO

Image
Finance Minister Brnetic

DNS DETERRED

Finance Ministry, January 29, 5462: After a meeting with Sovereign People Oil Corporation (SPOC) officials concerning oil reserve levels, Finance Minister Toislav Brnetic was asked by ZLATENICO OKO why the Deltarianska Narodna Strana (DNS) caucus of the Deltarian Democratic Union (DDU) voted to withdraw from the Majatran Security Cooperation Organization (MSCO) after so many years supporting it, and he replied:

Make no mistake; it was a hard choice for all the DDU. The mutual defense clause was not lightly abandoned.

In the case of DNS it is rather sad. We regard a high point of the MSCO as a Deltarian admiral devising and executing the plan that finally stopped the flow of violence prone foreign Israi into Jumhuriat al-Badara so that Beiteyneuse, Kundrati, Deltarian and Badaran forces could defeat the religious invasion.

Now the government appointing the Admiral Commanding, MSCO’s Collective Majatran Response Force (CMRF), joins in naval exercises so they will deter Deltaria. Well we are deterred. We are out of the MSCO.

Asked by ZLATENICO OKO if this withdrawal will poison relations with Moledet Medinat, Brnetic responded:

Well, obviously it could but on the other hand it removes a long standing source of friction. We are still trading and are both advocates of reviving the Majatran Economic Association or Majatran Association.

One should remember the population of neither nation has anything fundamental against the other; the touchy relationship one hears much about be it hatred, rivalry, admiration, frustration or contempt, is almost entirely generated by the Medinat Department and the Admiralty.

DELTARIA TO JOIN THE NON ALLIGNED MOVEMENT
January 23th 5463
Image
Rusaninova Hall, the government residence where the state dinner was held

Čahtica: The Imperial Government has announced its intend on joining the Non Alligned Movement following a recent state visit by Kalistani foreign minister Smith. Smith was welcomed by a Deltarian delegation consisting of the Prime Minister himself as well as the trade minister and a dozen people in support staff. The visit was well received by the Imperial Government, as FM Smith was welcomed with a lavish state dinner, consisting of the best Deltarian food and a abundance in Deltarian Vodka. While no official statement on this “state party” has been released several high ranking officials that were present even stated that they had seen Prime Minister Brozovic taking “a line”, with it being unclear what a line may be in this particular case. The day after all involved in the occasion reportedly got out of bed at a later hour then is usually the case, coming to the Rusaninova Dvorana to discuss the NAM, Deltarian neutrality and what it would entail as well as the possibilities for cooperation between Deltaria and Kalistan with this new diplomatic approach.

The result of the meetings is clear, the Grand Empire is set to join the Non Alligned Movement as a step towards solidifying their new committment to neutrality. The move, seen as a way to symbolize Deltarian neutrality to the outside world, will mark a new chapter in Deltarian foreign policy and opens up new possibilities for the Grand Empire, specifically in its relationship with Kalistan. Foreign Minister Smith and Prime Minister Brozovic both underlined the possibilities a neutral Deltaria would give towards bilateral relations and the Prime Minister went as far as to wish for a “special friendship” between Kalistan and Deltaria. Once the foreign minister left the ruling DDU proposed the ratification of the NAM treaty in congress, ensuring that the country joins the movement before the end of this term.

ANDREESCU ELECTED DDU PARTY LEADER
January 30th 5463
Image
Andreescu following his election as DDU party leader

Čahtica: Former defense minister and current leader of the Hosian Democratic faction of the DDU Teodor Andreescu will succeed Renato Brozovic as party leader and run as the party its prime ministerial candidate next election. Andreescu, who has served in congress for the past 8 years and has previously served as Defense minister for nearly 12 years, has been elected party leader on the third ballot in the party congress last saturday, defeating far-right candidate Dimitrije Bilic who was Andreescu his main opponent in the leadership contest. With his election as party leader Andreescu is nearly guarenteed to become the next Prime Minister of the Grand Empire, succeeding seasoned Prime Minister Brozovic,

Brozovic, Prime Minister for 12 years at the end of this term, announced his retirement from politics several months ago. Announcing that he believed it was time for Deltaria to face “a new leader” as he set at the helm of the country for 12 years in total. The swap in leaders comes at a pivotal moment for the country as it just embarked on one of its biggest foreign policy shifts in decades. Now, with Andreescu as the party leader, the DDU seeks to unite around him as the party has become the sole party on the federal level, representing a wide range of views that Andreescu now seeks to represent. Brozovic will continue to serve as Prime Minister until the next election, after which Andreescu is likely to succeed him.

NAVY ORDERS 5 NEW FRIGATES FOR HOME FLEET
January 30th 5463
Image
A Groshkov-class frigate currently in service

Ludmelnik: The Navy has ordered 5 new modern Gorshkov-class frigates from the Bălgrad Naval Development company who will provide most of the design work, with the Bălgrad Shipyards to be largely responsible for construction of the ships. The five new ships will be assigned to the home fleet, primarily assigned towards the protection of Deltaria’s direct shoreline as well as regular patrols in the Majatran Sea. The new ships are of the highly modern Gorshov-class, which havent been build in over 100 years apart from refitting old ships of the class. The new ships will feature a new launch system, capable of launching both sea-to-ground missiles and sea-to-air missiles. They will also receive upgraded communication systems, a improved hull, a new engine and a newly developed EW (Electronic Warfare) system meant to enhance the ships capabilities in the cyber era. The ships can serve in both a AAW command role as well as a guided-missile role by supporting troops on the ground. The ships are less optimized for ASW warfare, with that role being specifically assigned to the destroyers of the navy.

While the main contracts went out to BND and BS, additional technical support contracts went out to VALRKY Group (for them providing targetting computers and missile systems for the sea-to-surface systems) and to newcomer Tepeš Naval Industries for providing the EW systems as well as the 130mm naval gun in front of the ship. The five ships are likely to gradually enter service within the next few years, with the first two expected to enter sea trials in 4 years time and the remaining three following three years later.

While no official reason was given for the order, analysts agree that Deltaria’s decision to leave the MSCO and set on a neutral course forces the country to reinforce its forces within the Majatran Sea, with the five new frigates expected to significantly bolster Deltarian defense capabilities within the Majatran Sea.

CMRF SHIPS TO BE REASSIGNED
February 5th 5463
Image
A Buryan-class corvette, mainly used for shoreline and river patrols

Cahtica: The Ministry of Defense has, through a ministerial decree, reassigned the naval combat ships previously assigned to the CMRF. The ships, up until this point, were left within the ports of Branovice and Balgrad awaiting a possibly reassignment. It includes over 11 of the new Golub-class frigates, 10 modernized Voznak-class destroyers, 2 regular Voznak-class destroyers, 2 Gorhskov-class frigates and 8 Buryan-class corvettes. This is a sizeable formation, previously assigned to the CMRF command in protection of the mouth of the Majatran Sea. Under the decree the 8 Buryan-class corvettes are reassigned to the Home Fleet. All the destroyers are reassigned into the ASW Command fleet stationed in Balgrad as will 5 of the Golub-class frigates. The remaining 8 frigates, 6 Golub and 2 Gorshkov-class, will be reassigned to the Northern Fleet (1st Carrier Strike Group) in an effort to bolster expeditionary command.

The move to reassign the ships is seen as the last step towards leaving the MSCO, with the ships now “ fully part” of the Deltarian naval structure once more and thus any resemblance of the CMRF or MSCO having left Deltarian military structures. The reassignment also bolsters crucial fleets within the navy, further strengthening Deltaria’s capability in defending the Majatran Sea and, with its Northern Fleet, aid allies on the open ocean when needed.

Ludmelnik: Emperor Aleksić has made his first public appearance in over a year during a visit to a navy barracks in the naval town of Ludmelnik. The visit took a total of 4 hours and saw the Emperor talk with senior officials of the Ministry of Defense as well as Officers of the Imperial navy. The Emperor is a remarkably private person, rarely seen in public and living a secluded life. Those around him have suggested that the Emperor "is devoted to his duties as head of state, rarely having free time and instead studying the inner workings of government whenever he is available outside of work." He is also one of the few monarchs who hasnt visited abroad yet, leaving those duties to the civilian government, mainly the foreign ministry. While this can often be described as somewhat strange, it makes sense in the light of Deltarian history. In Deltaria, monarchs have often ruled with an iron fist, resulting in absolute monarchy with little to no checks and balances. While some monarchists might have hoped a return of those days when they reintroduced the empire, it is Aleksić himself who has made sure to prevent such events from occuring again. He has, despite often getting the chance, refrained himself from interfering in national politics. He performs his official duties, attends meetings of the privy council but leaves all decisionmaking to the civilian government.

It is believed that this is one of the reasons hes rarely seen in public. He, reportedly, fears that if he is seen in public it could be seen as a way for him to garner popular support, which in turn could lead to unwanted consequences and expectations. Interestingly enough this strategy has led to Aleksić becoming one of the most popular political figures, with approval ratings as high as 86% compared to politicians such as Prime Minister Brozović with a approval of 63%, still high for a politician but destroyed by the Emperor. All this made it even more special that the Emperor could be seen in Ludmelnik, talking to ordinary sailors and high ranking officials alike. The Emperor could furthermore be seen on one of the frigates in the fleet, the DNS Mrazek, inspecting the main gun and gaining a tour of a newly modernized part of the ship. All in all, the visit boosted morale on the base and ensured that some mystique surrounding the Emperor dissapated, even if it was just by a little bit.
