FUTURE OF CANRILLAISE LANGUAGE IN RILDANOR
Debate has broken out in Constitutional Assembly and wide public over possibility of abolishment of Canrillaise as official language. This option was first time presented by Anarchist Association of Rildanor, and despite their radical tendencies, did caught on as several Socialists begun debate over this possibility in Constitutional Assembly.
Most of Republicans have come out in support of retaining Canrillaise. Key argument they is that such endeavour would significantly hurt pan-Canrillaise effort. It also could hurt effective communication within government as most of bureaucrats do not speak languages other than Canrillaise and sometimes Luthorian. Some also fear that unity within Rildanor could be lowered due to spread of other languages, which would hurt communication of people from different communities.
Meanwhile supporters of the proposal, who are mainly Socialists, argue that lack of official language will help against discrimination and inequality of linguistic minorities in Rildanor. It also could help to attract new people to country by being inclusive, and thus gaining more manpower for reconstruction.
While the cultural aspects are significant, experts have also presented possible consequences on the public life and workings of government. The main impact would be on education. Under Socialist proposal Canrillaise would be educated as either first or second language, thus means that in minority dominated areas minority language could be taught as first, and Canrillaise as second. Under the proposal all government employees would have to know Canrillaise and at leas one other language spoken in Rildanor, or Luthorian. In minority dominated areas government employees would have to know both local language and Canrillaise. According to Socialists this will greatly help parcipitation and representation of minorities, who will then be more willing to help in reconstruction efforts.
Both sides have acknowledged need to balance needs of minorities and need for social cohesion. Socialists have proposed program under which government grants to schools who take part of multicultural exchange and programs and who support multilingualism. Employers who have diverse hiring policies would also be given government grants.
The proposal has gained large popularity among both Rildanorians and minorities. Several organisations such as Rildanorian Minority Association or Indralan-Canrillaise Organisation have supported the motion, and plan to start programs for support of multilingualism. Opposing the idea are more conservative citizens and organisations such as Jean-Michel de Rouvre and his De Rouvre Institute, or Rildanorian Cultural Society. These persons and organisations claim that Canrillaise is integral part of Rildanor and it's culture and it needs to be protected and retained.
No matter the outcome of the vote, the debate shows new divisions arising between "Federalists" and "Centralists", division which could replace current Republican and Socialist divide. Federalists are mainly composed of Socialists and support the language reform, however some Republicans, mainly Liberals and even Libertarians, are also considered as part of them. Meanwhile most of Republicans have banded around Centralists, supporting strong central government and cultural unity. However some more authoritarian parts of Socialists such as Metztists-Leonists or National Syndicalists have also supportee Centralists.
In conclusion language reform could decide if Rildanor ventures into 54th century as proper progressive nation, or homogeneous pillar of Canrillaise culture.
