In May 4792, the Mayor of Saint-Antoine, Craig Delsarte, announced his candidacy to be a Royal Senator for this year's elections, from which point he has been amassing the popularity that Jean-Noël Bellegarde once enjoyed.
It is speculated that the reason why Bellegarde has not attended the sessions is because, according to sources, Bellegarde has suffered an even greater setback among his fellow senators, many of whom believe that the Bellegarde government was disastrous from the start.
Regarding Bellegarde's non-attendance at the Royal Senate, Royal Senator Siobhan Rouselle has said she believes Bellegarde is desperate for re-election, stating the following:
Bellegarde tried to be better than Charpentier or Tymoshenko by cutting the science and education budget to spend on other things that aren't important. As for the tension that some members of the cabinet have with Bellegarde, I believe that Bellegarde earned it, by trying to sabotage the national principles of education, science, cooperation and justice, and now he thinks that with all that happened he is going to be re-elected? I think he is desperate for votes, he lost one and every single vote that supported him, he has no chance on winning the election.
Didier Macron, President of the Royal Senate, believes that Bellegarde has not attended because the tension between the Senators and the Head of Government is high, and that at any moment it could explode with consequences for Bellegarde.
To be honest, which I have always been, I think that Jean-Noël has not attended because of the tensions he has with the Senators, he has had several clashes with the Senators, insulting them and putting his ego on top of everything. The most recent encounter was with the Royal Senator for Sirdour, Djeferson de Montblanc, who in the discussion about the proposal of a new cabinet, de Montblanc told him that it was not possible to have one with only two months of a new government, to which Bellegarde responded in a very arrogant way that "he doesn't care what he thinks, and that de Montblanc had no role in the cabinet and never will". With this he earned more distrust from his fellow Senators, I think he will never be able to recover the trust he had when he begun as President of the Government.
In view of Bellegarde's situation with the Senate, King Jean-Noël IV has expressed that he is concerned with Bellegarde's change of attitude and that he has stated that the current Head of Government is in danger of being unrecognized by the Royal Senate and that he could be called to testify before the Royal Bureau, due to the way he has behaved with both the Royal Senate and his Cabinet. In addition, Jean-Noël IV has discussed with the new Coordinator of the Royal Bureau, Gwenaëlle Balzac, about the removal of Bellegarde as Commander of the Order of Rildanor. He hopes that the decision will be taken as soon as possible, for now the discussions on the subject will continue in the Palace of the Martyrs.
In Meroix and Saint-Antoine, discontent with Bellegarde has led the Meroixians to vote for Craig Delsarte, candidate of the social-democratic faction of the Parti Populaire, who in one month will end his campaign for Royal Senator (United with Delsarte) with the greatest popularity in the history of a candidate from Meroix and Saint-Antoine.
Vague Rildanorienne spoke to some of Craig Delsarte's supporters, who gave a wide range of opinions.
Joël, a local airline pilot explained the importance of voting for Delsarte and unseating Bellegarde:
It is time for someone different to take office! We think Delsarte will be better than Bellegarde. Bellegarde has been in the Royal Senate since 4775, we Meroxians believe that is time for a change! Vote him out!
Delsarte is expected to close his election campaign on June 17. So far he has been the most popular candidate for Royal Senator in Meroix and Saint-Antoine
The next General Election will take place in two months, on July 1 and the expectation of voters in Meroix and Saint-Antoine is higher than in the last years.
