Flurry of Political Activity as New Parties Emerge
Labonne, Tiralouse
15 June, 4069

Since the middle of last year, a wave of political activity has swept the nation. After two decades of political stagnation in which the Parti Nationaliste was the sole active political organization at the national level, several new parties have emerged. In addition, the long-dormant 1République has returned to the national stage and is campaigning for seats in the Assemblée nationale for the first time since the elections of March 4048.

Political analysts point to the street demonstrations that occurred in cities throughout the nation last year as the catalyst for this new political activity. At the time, many of the demonstrators reported feeling shut out of political discourse, an opinion that was widely held, especially among citizens who identified themselves as being on the left side of the political spectrum. Three of the most prominent new parties emerged from the leftist movements. Led by the labor organizer and prominent Metzist Antoine Robespierre, the Sans-Culottes has been the leading voice for Metzist–Leonidist politics, taking a hard left line in recent debates. Robespierre gave a measured statement to RAP political analyst Roland Barques, saying, "Although we applaud many of the policies implemented and maintained by the Parti Nationaliste, much work remains to be done to advance the interests of working people and to liberate our nation from the forces of Capital."

Robespierre's words were echoed in stronger terms by Ignatius Loyola, the Eliyahuist priest who leads Théologie de la Liberation, which identified its aims as "advocating the liberation of the poor and marginalized from material and spiritual oppression and the freedom of all people to live out their faith." "Rildanor remains deeply oppressive toward people of faith," Loyola told reporters, "and the needs of the poor and marginalized continue to go unmet. We look forward to competing in the coming elections to make this country a place where men and women serve their brothers and sisters as God calls us to do."

Spearheading many of the recent political debates has been Stencil Carandache, the young leader of the Parti National de la Jeunesse Gauche. Prior to founding the PNJG, Carandache was a medical student who rose to prominence as a leader in the student strike at the Université de Saint-Antoine. "Les Jaunes are incredibly excited to be part of a new wave of politics in this country. We hope to make big gains in next year's elections, so that we can continue leading the charge for a new politics that is more accountable to the next generation of Rildanorians." The center-left party had previously attempted to petition the Government to call early elections; the motion was defeated due to the abstention of all 75 members of the Assemblée.

Also gaining a voice at the national stage has been le petit déjeuner et le grand mort, whose radical platform could be interpreted as calling for the literal consumption of the rich. Their leader could not be reached for comment at time of publishing.

Carandache Steps Down as Head of PNJG
Labonne, Tiralouse
1 July 4072

Following disappointing results in the national elections of March 4072, the leader of the Parti National de la Jeunesse Gauche, Stencil Carandache, announced that he would be resigning from his position as party chair. "We campaigned very hard leading up to this election," Carandache said in a speech to supporters, "But it appears that our read on the will of the electorate was as good as we thought, and the results were frankly disappointing. Given what we've heard from the voters, I've decided to step down from the leadership of the PNJG and move into an advisory role within the party. Adeline Dubois will be taking over for me, and Guillemette Pépy will replace her as Deputy Leader. I truly appreciate the support I've received over the past four years, and I'm confident that Adeline will help steer our party to a bright future. Allez les Jaunes!"

Union des Centristes Victory!

The new party, Union des Centristes, has become the largest party. The party has won 20 of the 75 total National Assembly seats and has won the popular vote in 3 states (Tiralouse, Niraldonne and Morbanaque). Though it got no seats in one region (Sirdour), it showed so strongly in the other 4 that it was enough to bring the party over the top to get a stunning amount of seats.

Polling had only shown the party winning two to five seats, with the most optimistic poll at only 8 seats. Marine le-Bec was polling at only 15%, though she won around 29% in both rounds and came 2nd in the Presidential Election overall. She won her own seat with a large majority - making it the safest seat in the country for the Union des Centristes. Marine le-Bec was featured on an election special programme, where she said that she was "overjoyed".

I'm overjoyed to have this victory! We hope to unity with other forward-thinking and moderate parties for the betterment of our country. We are already acting on some of our campaign pledges, and we'll gladly finish these soon. My congratulations to Madame Prèsident, and Vive le Rildanor!
- Marine le-Bec on election night.

After the stunning victory, a new right-wing party has emerged. Hopefully the new government (currently in the works) can act on some of these campaign pledges. It looks like 1République and the Parti Nationaliste are preparing to leave the Government benches, as a new Assembly Member takes to the forefront. The new President is already packing to move into the Presidential residence.

Impératrice Noire Network (INN): A New Cabinet

The Parti de l'Impératrice Noire (PIN) has gained 4 seats, the Travailleurs Radicaux (TR) has gained 7 and the Front National (FN) has lost only 1 seat. Together, they will work together in a new government, which will make history as it contains the first Selucian to become a major minister and will contain two parties who have never been in government before (the PIN and TR). The Front National won the presidency, with an endorsement from the PIN, with 60% of the vote and nearly 32 million votes, to their opponent's 40% and just over 21 million votes - a wider margin of victory then was ever predicted. The PIN gained in every state but one, and there their seat total remained the same. They also have one governorship.

On the live television broadcast as results came in, Auguste and Teresa Mercie both spoke:
I'm glad we rose up by several seats. We weren't targeting that one in Sirdour, you know! That was totally out of the blue for me. I'm really contented. This is a good moment for Rildanor. People voted, and they voted for change.
-Claudette Auguste

We'll be in talks with the Black Empress about several things. We're happy that we see a clear path forward.
- Teresa Mercie

Some of criticized the PIN and FN for siding with a communist party when they are both right-wing. They state the new government is about changing Rildanor and getting the two establishment parties, who flopped miserably in the election to a total of 6 seats, to leave office. Others specifically attack Claudette Auguste, PIN leader, for making one of her two party leadership challengers run for the Presidency - which he was certain to lose - as a means of revenge. She has refused to answer questions about that subject, calling them disgraceful. Regardless, the new government has, in person, discussed a new budget and a taxation plan which are certain to go through. The next two years, and possibly beyond that, will be dominated by the former outsiders.

Impératrice Noire Network (INN): Party Convention

The Parti de l'Impératrice Noire (PIN) has held its convention, and the results have been mostly as expected. The party's presidential nominee is Philomène Nicollier, and Claudette Auguste has remained as the party leader, despite facing a popular challenger. Nicollier won two of five primaries, but swept the primary in Meroix and won in a landslide. The last nominee was defeated handily and came last, winning only his home state's primary. Philomène Nicollier was facing tough opposition from Lara Deniau, who had attacked her for moving the party to the centre. Nicollier only won by 18,000 votes in a sea of over 650,000 eligible voters. However, 465,069 votes were cast in the Presidential Primary, so that 18,000 votes was just over 6% of the vote.

All incumbent governors and assembly members won their mini-primaries. In a close race for the Labonne governor candidate spot, André Thévenet defeated Roch Matthieu by around 2,000 votes, which was less than 10% of the vote. The closest race of the night was in Sirdour, were Joséphine Rapace won the party nomination for governor over Miryam Jaccoud by 91 votes (les than 1% of the vote). 3 Rising stars dominated the Convention: Sandra Blaise, who got the Morbanaque governorship nomination; Zoé Crevier, who has been important in making the party more competitive in Sirdour; Charlène Beaux, who is considered odds-on favourate to win the party leadership if the party loses seats in the next election and Auguste decides not to run in 4120.

Impératrice Noire Network (INN): Angry Debates

Two recent bills put to the assembly floor have cause outrage, and have led many members of the Parti de l'Impératrice Noire to protest against the leftist parties, which hold a thin majority of 38-37 in the national assembly. The most prominent of the two bills is the Impératrice Noire Monarchy Bill, which proposes the introduction of a monarchy into Rildanor. While PIN party leader Claudette Auguste passionately fought for the bill, it was halted after harsh criticism from the leader of the Parti Libéral - who suggested it was anti-democratic.

Simultaneously, a highly controversial bill, the Prison Voting Act, has garnered much anger form the Black Empress. Proposing to allow criminals in jail to vote, it has stirred up talk of the Parti Libéral, who proposed the bill, being too sympathetic to rapists and murderers. The PIN has directed several attack ads at the Liberals, including one suggesting that they wanted to pass this bill because criminals vote for left-wing parties. Another bill, about bestiality, turned vulgar quickly.

Impératrice Noire Network (INN): Charlène Beaux Assassinated

Shortly after the full election results were announced in Rildanor, Charlène Beaux (the PIN's leader) was stabbed on the side of the road at 1:00 in the morning. She was due to make a speech at her party's Tiralouse headquaters. She was instead confronted by a large man wielding a knife who first shouted insults at her regarding her political beliefs. After a few minutes, as people went away to get help, eaux attempted to get back into her car and kicked the man in an attempt to get away. After being kicked, the man stabbed Beaux several times in the chest and abdomen.

Police and ambulances came quickly to the scene, but she was declared dead in the ambulance. The suspect fled, but was later caught and tried after a government-ran operation to find the killer. Condolences and respects flooded in from her own supporters and people from across the political spectrum. Her deputy, Zoé Crevier, succeeded her as leader in a convention much like the two previous ones. Claudette Auguste returned to politics, while Haydée Bouchard won the presidential nomintion.

Nouveau Centre Campaigns Ahead of General Election; Possible Snap Election
New Political Party Offers Centrist Platform to Voters
L'Ancien Observateur
July 4131

Image
Lionel Vanier, leader of the Nouveau Centre, meets voters in a farmer's market in Fontaine, Morbanaque.

With the general election in Rildanor scheduled for December 4131, the Nouveau Centre (New Center) is already campaigning for votes throughout the country. Having been founded only in March of this year, the party does not yet know where its base of support lies, or who composes it. Nonetheless, Lionel Vanier, leader of the Centrists (as they are colloquially called), appears confident of a good showing, especially for a party whose recognition among voters registers only in the mid-40s in most surveys.

"It is a matter of policy," said Vanier as he greeted a vendor here at a farmer's market in Fontaine, Morbanaque in the endemic Canrillaise dialect he grew up speaking. "The Nouveau Centre takes positions from both the left and the right, and we offer a new avenue of political engagement to those voters who feel they do not fit in any of the other parties."

This, in a nation with seven active political parties, seems like a stretch, but Centrist candidates on the ballot throughout the nation, from rural farmlands in Niraldonne to urban quartiers in the capital of Labonne, Tiralouse, insist that they are making inroads. Nevertheless, when asked candidly about their prospects, a staffer for a Centrist candidate running in coastal Sirdour responded anonymously, "Even if we win only one seat, that is progress. Even one seat gives us a legitimate platform to promote our agenda. Soon, one seat will turn to 10, and 10 seats to a government coalition. But for now, we're just focused on letting people know that the Nouveau Centre exists."
