Committee on National Security declares victory in "coup"
November 5279
General Auguste de Orange-Levasseur, the senior most General in the Aldurian Army, has publiclly declared the formation of the Committee on National Security (Canrillaise: Comité de la sécurité nationale). In a statement issued outside of the interim government headquarters of La Nouvelle-Orange, General de Orange-Levasseur proclaimed the formation of the Second République d'Alduria with himself as the "President of the Republic of Alduria" and has vowed to end the recent "revolutionary malaise". The new Committee on National Security has named an interim government, the most prominent appointment being a member of the d'Aurilimar family, close allies and friends of the de Orange-Levasseur family. Jean-Michel d'Aurilimar has been named as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Alduria and alongside President de Orange-Levasseur has publicly called for the "...reunification of the Canrillaise Empire."
General de Orange-Levasseur has activated the Canrillaise Foreign Legion, an organization founded in Kanjor in January, 4858 by then Kanjorian Minister of Defense Maryvonne Clérisseau and Chief of the National Defense Staff Vice-Amiral d'escadre Amaury Saunier. The Canrillaise Foreign Legion draws together ethnic Canrillaise from across the Canrillaise world and those wishing to join in the defense of the Canrillaise culture and earn Canrillaise citizenship, generally in the nation where they enlist in the legion. "Effective immediately we are activating the Canrillaise Foreign Legion within Alduria and I have appointed Sara Dubost as the Minister of the Interior and charged her with securing Alduria."
Political commentators are "eager" for the potential of a "new" Alduria but are weary that the significantly armed pro-Communist and pro-Socialist elements within Alduria are positioning for a civil war. When questioned about this, President de Orange-Levasseur stated "Any attempt to undermine the Republic will be met with absolute justice." A number of political parties and organization have signed on as "associate" members of the Committee on National Security. The most prominent being the pro-monarchy Rally for the Empire (Canrillaise: Rassemblement pour l'Empire) led by noted Aurilimarist Democrat Marc-Antoine Deslys who is likely to join the Council of Ministers as a Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Canrillaise Affairs.
While the question of Alduria entering into the Canrillaise Empire has generated some questions, there are even more questions on the domestic front. The new government has announced that it will hold free and fair elections in the coming months to establish a democratically elected government. The military leaders have assured the public that the elections will be transparent, inclusive, and in accordance with international standards.
In a press conference held earlier today, the President General Auguste de Orange-Levasseur, outlined the domestic policies that the new government plans to focus on in the run-up to the elections. The main priorities of the new administration include tackling corruption, creating jobs, and improving the country's infrastructure. President de Orange-Levasseur stated that the previous government had failed to address the root causes of poverty and inequality in Alduria, and had instead prioritized the interests of a small elite. The new government is committed to creating a fairer and more inclusive society, where every citizen has equal opportunities to succeed.
To achieve this goal, the government plans to implement a number of measures, including investing in education and healthcare, improving public transportation, and promoting small and medium-sized businesses. The new administration also plans to crack down on corruption and ensure that public funds are used for the benefit of the people. The interim prime minister emphasized that the new government is committed to respecting the rule of law and protecting the rights of all citizens. He called on the people of Alduria to unite and work together to rebuild the country and create a better future for themselves and their children.
The announcement of free and fair elections and the new government's commitment to addressing the country's long-standing issues has been met with cautious optimism by the people of Alduria. Many hope that the new administration will usher in a new era of prosperity and stability for the country. However, there are concerns about the role of the military in the political process, and some fear that the new government may not be fully committed to democracy.
As the country prepares for the upcoming elections, the eyes of the world will be on Alduria, watching to see if the new government can live up to its promises and build a better future for the people.
