Election Results See Youth Alliance Losing Ground, Démocrates de Gauche Rises
February 4057

The elections held at the end of January showed a strong turn out around 75%. The once widely popular Youth Alliance Party (Parti Jéunes Alliancé) took a bit of a beating, losing 24% of their support from the previous election. The previous election was a snap election held after the brief dissolution of the Parti Progressistes Royaliste, which has since returned in a weakened, yet still marginally present state. The royalists had a resurgence during the election, amid highly credible and widely substantiated rumors of ideological discord and increased ill-will amongst leadership.

A new party, Démocrates de Gauche, gained 100 seats, with a strong showing for a social democratic party in historically liberal and traditionalist Alduria. They have since reached out to Parti Libéral, in an effort to form a viable coalition government as analysts predict Progressiste Royaliste's increasing slide into a defunct state

Marco Baptiste of the Youth Alliance won the presidential election, although his popularity was hurt by widespread opposition to budget cuts, with slogans of "Baptiste cuts, we walk" being echoed through internal affairs and justice ministry employee unions, while economists and policy experts from the left of center and center alike balked at Baptiste's adminstration's cutting.

To add dissatisfaction to the spread disappointing cuts, when Youth Alliance proposed a compromise budget, the did not reinstate funding to Internal Affairs, while increasing funding to the military, in spite of the same administration's previous argument for leaving the Seleyan Union, which was based on unnecessary military involvement.

Government Formed after Re-Call Elections
August 4057

Following elections, the newly active Progressistes Royalistes and the regrouping Youth Alliance were able to call for recall elections in the Aldurian Republic, a call approved and sponsored by the Liberal Party. Elections saw similar results to those in regular elections, with a few Démocrates de Gauche voters returning to the Progressive Loyalists, giving them a larger number of Senators.

However, Démocrates de Gauche and the Liberals were still able to unite and push through an unlikely cabinet. Lionel Blanc, of the Liberals, was elected Président. Helöise Descolinnes, a Senator from Nouvelle-Orange was selected as Premier Minister. Descolinnes, 42, is a long time Social-Democrat, psychiatrist, and political leader, as well as a founding member of Démocrates de Gauche. Additional names of note in the cabinet include Antonin Lavousier, who was selected as Finance Minister, a long time central bank official, Central Bank Workers Union Leader, and Christian Socialist. The final name of note is Cunégonde Dalrymple, a lawyer and civil rights activist, who was selected to be Minister of Justice.

Aldurian News Times Gets Up Close and Personal With former Président Baptiste
March 4059
Image
Above: Marco Baptiste, former President of Alduria
Although he is definitely a controversual figure in recent Aldurian and Seleyan history, he still stood above many of his colleagues and opponents in his ability to work across aisles and foster a strong spirit of Aldurian pride and duty to the nation. He started as a business man, and he got into politics when he started the Youth Alliance (now the Republican Alliance). He was elected President in 4053, and was ousted by a coalition of the center and the left in an election which his party asserts was a highway robbery to this day. Below is our interview:

ALDURIAN NEWS TIMES: President Baptiste, while you were in office, you lead a highly pragmatic administration. What made you able to work so well with others?

MARCO BAPTISTE: I think, it was my ability to get to the root of the problem, I've always been a great believer in telling it like it is, people respect that, and at the end of the day, people like working with someone like that.

ALDURIAN NEWS TIMES: What do you think of your Party's current leading figure, President Gerád?

MARCO BAPTISTE: I've always had tremendous respect for Mr. Gerád, in many ways he and I are very similar. We've always gotten along, I would consider him a very loyal friend, he is a very loyal person, he has shown that, and he will be very loyal to our cause, and to the people of Aldurie.

ALDURIAN NEWS TIMES: You've worked across party lines. What was your experience like working with Premier Minister Helöise Descolinnes?

MARCO BAPTISTE: Well Mrs. Descolinnes and I did butt heads on many issues, I'm not going to lie. You can expect that, we do have very differing opinions, and approaches, politically, and maybe in life in general, but when all said and done, I do believe she is a nice person, however I don't see her as a leader, I think that the democrat party would certainly be better off choosing someone with a little more energy to lead their government. I found that working with her, she can be a little lack lustre.

ALDURIAN NEWS TIMES:What do you think will be the biggest issue facing Alduria in the 4060's?

MARCO BAPTISTE:
I think our biggest problem would probably be a majority shift to the far left. I've noticed this pattern in many affluent nations, they turn to the right to fix the problems, as soon as the problems are fixed and everything is running smoothly, they turn to the far left, who generally mess things up, this is a very common trait among the young people, who may have a warped idea of what equality is. So I do worry that the people may elect the progressive royals, who will undo all of the hard work that my administration and President Gerád's administration have done.

ALDURIAN NEWS TIMES: Your opinion of the proposed "Maliv People's Month"?

MARCO BAPTISTE:I do have tremendous respect for the Maliv People, so I do like the idea of a Maliv people's month, however I think we need to help the Maliv People in other ways, I think we could do more to help them with education and employment.

ALDURIAN NEWS TIMES: Your opinion of Parti Libéral?

MARCO BAPTISTE: The liberal party, I feel can be very underhanded, I think they have a very hard time of relinquishing power, they probably need to rebuild their party, they have lost a huge amount of support, so I do feel they need to have less involvement in the cabinet, and really try and rebuild themselves again. I do like the fact that they are willing to work with other parties on many issues, and intellectually debate the issues.

ALDURIAN NEWS TIMES: Your opinion of Démocrates de Gauche

MARCO BAPTISTE: Well the Democrats are obviously left wing, so there are fundamental issues we disagree upon. I wouldn't consider them far left wing, I think they are a party who can be, and are willing to be reasonable, which is good. I do feel that many of their policies, especially on immigration, are based on emotion rather than facts, however they have presented some policies and legislation that we agree with, so I don't think they're entirely bad, I just think they need to mature, and see the bigger picture

ALDURIAN NEWS TIMES: What do you think of Progressistes Royalisté?

MARCO BAPTISTE: I'm going to give it to you straight, the progressive royals are absolutely totally horrible. They undermine democracy in this nation, and really, they are completely stupid, they oppose issues just to be contrary, and they want to have a monarchy. I'm not sure what century they're from, but it certainly is not this one. I remember when I first got into politics, I called them the baby party, it was a little controversial, but that's exactly what they are

ALDURIAN NEWS TIMES: If you could say one thing to your self 3 years ago, what would it be?

MARCO BAPTISTE: I would probably say be careful, I think maybe I was a little too trusting of the Liberal Party, we had a coalition with them, they did stab me in the back, but in saying all that, I wouldn't change anything about my time in office, when I was running for President, people said I was too outspoken, maybe a little too controversial, but at the end of the day I achieved what I wanted as president, we delivered on promises, and I worked with, and met some amazing people. I feel have done my duty to this great nation.

Elections Turn Out Well for The Left, but for Alliance Republicain, Slow and Steady Wins the Race
June 4062
Image
Above: New Président Étienne duPerrier speaking at a victory party, hosted by Grande Confederation de Travail, Alduria's largest labor union confederation
Elections turned out well for the left, with Démocrates de Gauche winning the Presidency, catapulting former Party Chairman and founder Étienne duPerrier to political prominence. A large coalition of Communists from Parti Revolutionaire Populaire, Liberals, and a trade union movement which traditionally backs the party, but put out a full showing to stop the relatively unpopular Gerád. He made his first public speech after the election, as he did after every election during his tenure as a party Chairman. The event is the Soireé Democratique (Democracy Ball), which the Grand Confederation de Travail (the Grand Confederation of Labor, the countries largest trade union center) Below is an excerpt:

I was elected to represent the new socialism, a socialism which my party has been founded upon. The New Socialism is something I saw born in Alduria, and I'd like to think I'm a parent and nurterer of the new socialism. I believe the new socialism is democracy, workers rights, a striving towards equality, the right to organize, a Republic guided by its democratic principles, a right to economic initiative, a support for entrepreneurial and artistic creativity. In short, this New Socialism is social justice, and a guarantee for a prosperous future, enjoyable to Aldurians of all backgrounds, classes, occupations, and genders.

Helöise Descolinnes, the Prime Minister, also a member of the social democratic faction of Démocrates de Gauche said:

I'm glad to be re-elected to the National Assembly, and I'm glad to have more company in the Assembly now [laughs]. I really look forwards to my continued Ministry, and I look forwards to confronting the issues which challenge our country and the world with a great bevy of people across the political aisles.

The Republic Alliance, however, remains very stable. They have not suffered major losses, and remain the largest party in the National Assembly, in spite of the likelihood that they will have an opposition role in the face of a centrist and leftist coalition of Liberals and Democrats. It is rumored that Démocrates de Gauche will reach out to the party to continue their control of the Defense Ministry, a wise move considering that most defense experts and former soldiers are members of the Republic Alliance

Alduria Speculates Return to The Seleyan Union
November 4062
Image
Above: President Étienne duPerrier, Shadow Foreign Minister Saint-Rémy, and policy experts host citizens forum on "Selentry" in Caveaux, Nouvelle-Orange, sponsored by Syndicát Enseignants (Teacher's Union) and Université Caveaux

Alduria is now considering reëntry into the Seleyan Union, which would make it the first time such a bill was brought to the National Assembly since the "Selexit" which was performed by Marco Baptiste's Youth Alliance (Now Republic Alliance) government.

The Démocrates de Gauche (Democrats of the Left) previously attempted to pacify all sides by attempting entry into the Seleya and Artania Treaty Organization. However, this attempt was piecemeal at best, and was largely opposed by the Liberal Party, an early and prominent former opponent of selexit, and the loudest champions of reëntry into the Seleyan Union.

President duPerrier is excited about the promose of Selentry. He said:
Most of my party and colleagues agree that once again entering the Seleyan Union will bring more trade, more international coöperation, and greater equality to the people of Alduria. We really think that fair trade is the wave of social justice and progress, a wave which we will ride upon in entering the Seleyan Union

However, some prominent members of the Incénser faction of DdG, and a few lesser known socialists were more skeptical. Party-Labor Liason Colinne Gervais said that
There is no real proof, really, that a Selentry will have real benefit to Aldurian workers. It certaintly is dividing the trade union support for DdG, but most of the people in labor and the party are at least hopeful.

Labor Demonstration Turns Violent
May 4071

Above: Democratés de Gauche Affiliated Unions, Democratés de Gauche, and some communists from the Revolutionary Populist Party march together to celebrate the achievements of labour
May Day in 4071 was, as usual, marked with a parade and tons of political speeches and musical performances in the capital city of Aldur, and countless other cities throughout Alduria. The unions, which are still largely affiliated with the Democrats of the Left (Démocrates de Gauche), as well as Revolutionary Populists (Parti Revolutionnaire Populiste: The communists) and their labor allies showed up in force to march, with planned permits, and proper ordinances to do so. While marching to Incarnatión Square, to begin a rally, they were interrupted by a group of anarchists

The anarchists, many affiliated with the Anarchist Party, intended to march in the parade, but refused to sign up with the planning committee to march, or with the city for an ordinance, under their belief that the state must be avoided and abolished. At about three PM on May Day a group of Anarchists marched down Rue Sainte-Jean, which intersects the Boulevarde Nationale, on which the parade was occurring. They jumped police and parade barriers, and attempted to break into the crowd.

Issues escalated when an elderly Étienne duPerrier, a former Chairman of Democratés de Gauche, and its founder, swore at the anarchists. Several got into his face and he pushed one of them to the ground. The anarchists then preceded to jump at duPerrier, and were dragged away by members of the crowd. A fistfight arose between anarchists and marchers, and soon police were dispatched to the scene. People involved in the altercation were detained, and the CGT (Confederation Grande du Travail) announced that they condemn violence and do not sanction such interruptions on may day. Démocrates de Gauche also condemned the fights, and have placed duPerrier on probation from the party.

The first anarchist event was organised in the city of Sauvon, where nationlly the AA received their most votes.

The majority of people there wore masks - which are commonly being referred as 'Masks of Anarchy' (see below)

The anarchists chanted the alliances motto - 'Anarchisme est la liberté' and speeches were delivered.

The speeches were presented by 3 members of the Alliance Anarchiste and an anonymous individual. made speeches around issues of Peace, The Abolishment of Copyright, the destruction of banks and the monetary system and by far the most worrisome the promise of showing the truth about future Prime Ministers and Presidents.

Liberal Party Sponsors War Protest March

In response to recent proposals to declare war on Beiteynu, the Liberal Party sponsored a protest march in the Aldurian capital of Aldur. The protest was mainly organised by the Liberal Party leadership but the event was open to all activists from all parties who oppose the war.

The event was marked with a speech from Liberal Party leader Étienne Bescond; the same speech made in the National Assembly three days prior.

After reviewing the facts the Liberal Party would like to announce that we will be officially opposing this war.
We believe war should only ever be a last resort and it is not something we should do alone.
The war will do more harm to civilians in Beiteynu than the current oppressive regime. That does not mean that we should stand by and do nothing.
No! Far from it.
We ask our fellow Aldurians to quench their jingoistic spirit and take a moment to think about this. It is not a decision anyone should take lightly.
We recommend that instead of war we must attempt diplomacy, both with the international community and with Beiteynu itself. Political and economic sanctions should be considered first. We will only support war if it comes from an international coalition.
Should this vote pass, the current Liberal President will resign and we will propose an early election in which we will put forward no presidential candidate nor shall we endorse one. We will not challenge the decision of the Assembly but we will play no part in it.

Also present was Liberal President Raphaël Trouvé who had announced he would indeed resign should a vote for war pass, this announcement was greeted with a thunderous applause.
The march lasted five hours and toured many landmarks of Aldur starting from the outskirts and ending in front of the National Assembly building.

Anti-Fascist March in Aldur

Postby ComradeGrif » Sat Aug 13, 2016 4:03 pm

Image
Members of the Democrats of the left and the Revolutionary Communists rallied today in support of the downfall of fascism. More specifically, the downfall of fascism in Beiteynu, a nation that has been abusing the rights of women and homosexuals. The protest was largely in support of a proposed war with the nation, but not just pro-war citizens rallied, some members of the Aldurian Liberal Party also marched. At the event, Irène Colbert, the leader of the Revolutionary People's Party, shook hands with both Helöise Descolinnes and Catherine DuMaurier, the former leader and current leader of the Democrats of the Left respectively. All three of these people appeared and spoke at the event. While the march was officially open to all citizens, some masked anarchists were refused entry, and left with the chants of "Montrez vos visages, l'écume fasciste!" (Show your faces, fascist scum!) on their backs.

BY RENEE NOEL

NOUVELLE ORANGE - The Coalition of Progressive Aldurians today held and sponsored a pro-war, anti-bigotry march from Eutriche to Eau-De-Terre. Nearly 200,000 supporters from all over the Republic gathered in the center of the city during morning rush hour to support the war on Beiteynu, which is likely to pass the Assembly next month. The group, composed mostly of DdG, PRP, and CPA members, began a day-long march on numerous major highways towards the resort town of Eau-De-Terre. They arrived this evening. The protests remained peaceful and were blocked off by local police.
