Election Results November 2764Christian Socialist Movement gain Presidency and major presence in AssemblyThe most prominent change in Kirlawan politics this election cycle has been the rapid rise of the Christian Socialist Movement. Offering a religious populist alternative for many Christian Kirlawans who had previously supported the Kirlawan People's Justice Party despite their secularism, or the Orangeists despite their laissez-faire position on the economy, in 2764 the CSM have doubled their previous share of the General Assembly. Now holding 113 seats, they will appear as List Three on the ballot next time.
The 2764 election also awarded the newly formed Liberal Party their first seats. Although considerably more moderate than the recently departed KPF or the long-ago KDL or FPL, the Liberal Party offer Kirlawan voters an overall leftist choice, so that they no longer have to settle for either the cultural conservatism of the KPJP and CSM, the rightist fiscal approach of the Democratic Freedom Movement and Kirlawan Austrian Party, or the centrism of the Urban Party of Kirlawa.
Detailed election results are available at
http://classic.particracy.net/viewnews. ... 2&nation=4PresidencySimon Crossley of the CSM, running alone for the Presidency, won in both rounds of voting, and stunningly prevailed over two coalitions: the KAP's Elizabeth Crowell (also endorsed by the DFM and the Orangeists), and incumbent President Sharon Myers of the UPK (also endorsed by the KPJP). Nicholas Evans of the Liberal Party placed fourth, but was chosen by more than one out of every eleven voters, a very good showing for a brand-new party.
The KPJP are very likely to endorse President Crossley (or his CSM successor) in the next election, since the two parties share similar populist stances on many issues.
General AssemblyBesides by the CSM and Liberals, Assembly seats were also gained by the DFM and UPK.
On the other hand, the secular KPJP have recently lost a number of devoutly Christian voters to the CSM; a few KAP seats passed to their DFM allies; and the Strong Republic Party lost a third of their previous holding.
The conservative Orangeists have missed many votes in the Assembly, and continue their slide, now down to 12 seats. Most of their supporters have transferred to Kirlawa's two current Movements: socially conservative ones to the CSM, fiscally conservative ones to the DFM.

One very controversial seat in the suburbs of Zobagon, won in 2761 by the CSM's challenger by eighteen votes over the DFM's incumbent, has now gone to the KAP by a similarly tiny margin.

DirguziaThe Liberal Party concentrated their campaigning in Dirguzia, and have been rewarded with twelve seats in the provincial assembly.
Meanwhile, the SRP have lost their previous majority and even their status as largest local party, with the governorship now going to the KPJP's Gregory Callahan. Most of the seats in question have been won by DFM challengers, re-establishing that party's presence here.
The UPK have also regained a seat, in this province where not too long ago they had held a majority.

NuchtmarkTo an uncanny and remarkable degree, voters in Nuchtmark stayed with their coalitions.
Twelve local seats previously held by the KPJP transferred neatly to their CSM allies in the Leftist Coalition; and four of the KAP's similarly switched to the DFM, their Free Market Coalition partners. This left the SRP to pick up the remaining two Orangeist seats (despite there being no coalition between this pair of parties).
The KPJP's Beatrice Greene continues the Greene family dynasty of governors here.

DirlanaReacting to recent economic troubles, Dirlana's voters have decisively switched from laissez-faire to intervention. After last election, fiscally rightist parties (the FMC plus the Orangeists) had held three-quarters of the provincial legislature; now the LC have a (very slim) majority, with the CSM winning their party's first governorship.

MerkanIn contrast to Dirlana's voters wanting more government, Merkan's now want even less than before. The FMC have won a majority in the legislature of Kirlawa's most libertarian province, with the KAP continuing to hold the governorship.
Even the Orangeists, despite being electorally wiped out across the rest of Kirlawa, actually gained strength here, picking up six seats formerly held by the KPJP.
(The Orangeists have been abstaining on most bills recently, so perhaps that makes them more appealing to Merkan's voters who prefer less government?
