KirKu Oil Corporation established, first oil rig well underway.

As part of the reconstruction efforts post war, Kundrati has decided to announce a collaboration in resource extraction with the soon to be reinstated Kirlawan Republic. This comes in the form of KirKu Oil Corporation, an equally owned conglomerate between the two nations that is set to extract oil from the northern White Ocean oil deposits, just outside of Dorvik's Economic Exclusivity Zone. The first oil rig, named "Solidarity", has begun production earlier today, with the rig expected to be finished in 2 to 3 years. The financing for the rig is to be split between the nations, however is going to take up most of the 816 million kuno price and Kirlawa is going to pay them back later once the nation has been fully reconstructed.

First Elections Held, Centre-Right Government Expected

The results of the first elections since the collapse of the Junta have been released, with the market liberal party Fine Choiarlabhan having taken the plurality of seats, followed by Páirtí Daonlathach and Comhaontas Glas. It was unknown what to expect leading up to the election, but it has been seen by the people that a centre-right government is to take power. Political analysts are expecting a coalition between the largest three parties to take place, with further expectations that they will begin to reconstruct and make a new image for the nation following the catastrophic one the Junta made. Íomhar Wallace, chairman of Fine Choiarlabhan has announced his bid for the office of Taoiseach, and that his colleague Ulick Beirne would be running for the Presidency.

The Orange Flag flies again

After a long absence, the name of one of Kirlawa's most iconic political movements, the Kirlawan Popular Front (Tosaigh Coitianta na Choiarlabhan) is once again on the lips of commentators and voters.

This time it is the collective name for a set of left wing parties that have united after their poor showings in the 5468 elections, and it is rumoured that some of its members were in the resistance movement against the Junta under the name "Popula Militia", although there has been no armed militia in evidence in the years since liberation.

It is expected that the KPF will put forward a full slate in the 5472 elections, and they seem likely to be the main challengers to the Family of Kirlawa (Fine Choiarlabhan) led right wing coalition government.

Polling is not clear, with wide variations in opinion across Kirlawa, and it is yet to be seen whether KPF campaigns on nationalisation, women's rights and opposition to the death penalty will attract voters in sufficient numbers.

GOVERNMENT DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY
August 22nd 5471

The President and Taoiseach made a joint announcement today, declaring that a state of emergency has been authorised by both of their offices and the Supreme Court. The declaration was made in the wake of the outbreak of war between Lourenne and Beitenyue, with both parties beginning to partake in naval conflict. The government has ordered all Kirlawan citizens in conflict areas to report to the nearest embassy for evacuation home, and has put the armed forces on high alert for potential escalation in the future. The government has also placed an order for 3.08 billion in military from various Kundratijan manufacturers, including aircraft, rifles, machine guns, artillery and more. This order has been placed in order to equip the armed forces durign this time of conflict, and it is expected that the government will place an order for naval crafts soon as well.

Popular Front Sweeps Election

While observers had expected a strong showing from the newly recreated KPF, no one had quite expected the party to receive over 80% of the vote in the Dáil elections this month. With a platform of reform, and despite a low overall turnout, the Orange clearly captured the imagination of a large number of Kirlawans

The new cabinet under Aoife Ó Niall has been quickly formed and her first act as newly sworn-in Taoiseach was to announce a review of tax and spend policy with the aims of reducing the burdens on the poor, balancing the budget, ensuring that education, health and welfare are funded alongside military reconstruction and - in order to achieve that, higher taxes on business and the rich.

Fitzhugh Condemns Escalation of War, Kundrati Interference

The Kirlawa Foreign Minister, Ciaran Fitzhugh, has issued a statement to the leaders of Beitenyu, Lourenne and Kundrati to express great concern at the increasing conflict. In particular Fitzhugh has singles out the involvement of Kundrati in joining with Lourenne as part of naval movements against Beitenyu.

"We want to re-affirm our great friendship with the people and government of Kundrati, and maintain our gratitude for their part in our liberation from the Junta. However, we ask that all involved in this conflict take a step back. Beitenyu has been using ICBMs, Lourenne is sending fleets westward past Aldegar, and Kundrati has not just allowed that but is joining the Lourenne Navy.

"This risks spreading the threat of war across the globe and into Artania. As a neighbour of Kundrati, we counsel against such dangerous acts - bringing the war to them may have impacts further afield and to Kundrati's region.

"I have discussed our position with Uachtarán Beirne, and he has agreed that we need to maintain the State of Emergency declared by the previous government of Kirlawa."

The unity shown by the KPF and FC on this matter is something for Kirlawa to be proud of, politicians putting aside their differences on policy to show a consistent voice for the nation and promoting peace and stability on Terra.

Popular Front Sweep Elections, Announce Spending Increases
August 5476

The snap election called after the dissolution of the Family Kirlawa (FC) has unsurprisingly resulted in a 100% return for TT he Popular Front slate, who also took the Presidency unopposed.

The main policies that the KPF promoted for the August poll were to increase spending on Defence and Health, and to join the Vamaj Network, tapping into international oil and gas supply via Kundrati through to the nations of Majatra and other continents. The new government has also pledged extra money for infrastructure to pay to upgrade the oil and gas pipelines to meet Vamaj standards and connect to Kundrati formally.

The KPF are now putting these spending commitments through the Dáil. There will be no increase in taxation required, as following the successful 5473 Budget, the deficit had been turned around into a 140bn KDI surplus.
