Education Standards must be maintained

Nicholas Henderson the KSDP Education Spokesperson has called today for common sense with regards legislation passing through the Assembly on removing the National Curriculum.

Ár Re a rival party is seeeking to remove the national curriculum, giving schools full autonomy over setting of syllabi. Mr Henderson has stated “currently there is a national curriculum in place that is advisory for schools however it sets out to create a standard of educational attainment that will allow young people to be equipped with the necessary learning, knowledge and skills to be productive members of society. The current legislation is flexible enough to allow schools to introduce learning that is not on the syllabus. This current proposal will be nothing more than detrimental to the development of our young people and I call on all parties in Kirlawa to reject it”

Presently Ár Re, The Luthoran Unionist Party and The Great Popular Party have all endorsed the current legislation whilst the Kirlawan Social Democrat Party is the solely opposed party. The Kirlawan People’s Justice Party and Green Party have yet to support either side.

Mr Henderson has made an impassioned plea to those yet to throw their weight behind the vote “ for the sake of our young people I call on the KPJP and Green Party to reject this proposal and ensure that our young people can continue to avail of the standard of learning that has benefited so many young people of past years.”

Hume stands down

After Kirlawa’s recent election, the leader of the Kirlawan Social Democrat Party Sean Hume has resigned his position as party leader. Mr Hume stated

“It can be clearly seen that the party has lost the core vote in Nuchtmark with which it was propelled onto the Kirlawan political stage. Whilst we have had a great performance in Merkan this should not be balanced by disengagement with the people of Nuchtmark”.

Mr Hume further said “I will be standing down as leader of the KSDP as it can be seen that people no longer have faith in the direction I am leading this party. There comes a time when a leader must stand aside and give the opportunity for new fresh ideas, perspective and leadership.”

“I would like to thank all those that have supported the party and to those have supported me over these last number of years. I wish my successor the very best of luck in their endeavours to ensure that they deliver for the people, that they continue to push for economic security , educational progress and the national protection of this great country.”

In the coming months the party will have to call a special convention to allow for a vote on the next leader of the party. It is anticipated to be a hotly contested race.

Scramble for Leadership

As previously reported Mr Sean Hume Leader of the KSDP has officially stood down as party leader. In the coming months the KSDP will have to select a new leader and it would seem that there are four likely contenders. The party’s Assembly Group Leader Mr David O’Sullivan is seen as the likely successor however he will face competition from Mr John Shields the party’s Defence spokesperson, Mr Eamon De Faoite the spokesperson for Internal Affairs and Ms Jennifer Davidson the party’s Health and Social Services spokesperson.

This media outlet has contacted all four of the KSDP representatives. All have made no comment except Mr Shields. Mr Shields has said “Today is a sad day. Sean (Hume) was a charismatic leader and a great friend. He always tried to find common ground and worked to the best of his ability for the people of Kirlawa. He will be sadly missed. I wish Sean all the best with whatever endeavour he moves onto next although I’m sure that he may want to take a break having worked tirelessly over the last 20 years for his constituents and the people of Kirlawa.”

“With regards the Party Leadership I think it would be premature for me to state if I will be or won’t be running for Leadership of the party. Today has been a shock for me and many within the party. Over the coming days and weeks there will be many conversations from the grassroots up regarding this issue. What we need to do now is take stock of where we are at and what direction we need to move in.”

Who will succeed Hume?

It has Been over 7 months since Sean Hume stood down as the Leader of the Kirlawan Social Democrat Party. But today we can confirm that the party has set a date for a special conference to determine the next leader of the KSDP along with other leadership roles within the party.

Whilst initially it was speculated that there would be four contenders for Leadship it has now been revealed that there is only three; David O’Sullivan, John Shields and Eamon De Faoite. Many commentators believe that it will be a tight race between O’Sullivan and Shields with the later receiving the endorsement of Mr Hume. Mr Shields who was one of the Parties original founders if successful would not be as great a change as Mr O’Sullivan. The party has already moved slightly on their policies regarding the markets and economy.

Mr Shields has been seen as a firebrand politician whilst Mr O’Sullivan is seen as more reserved. However being more reserved has not hindered the KSDP’s Assembly Leaders progression in politics as he is a calm and calculating man.

The Party special conference is set to take place next month.

Unionists purpose political alliance with the Republican Party
Image

this morning The All Kirlawa Unionist Party announced that it would be willing to form an alliance with the newly established Republican Party previously known as The Liberty Party with the intention of stemming the tide of both Socialism and left-liberalism in Kirlawa while advancing the cause of liberty and national revival under a common banner of solidarity among the ranks of the Kirlawan right.

Democratic Labour relaunch, promise "radical new direction" for Kirlawa

The Kirlawa Democratic Labour Party, one of the most historically significant parties in Kirlawan history, was relaunched in Indrala yesterday. Having spent a period as a satellite party of the People's Justice Party; the group struck out on a more independent footing and promised to be a "robust, radical, truly Socialist option for the people of Kirlawa".

The original KDL was founded in 2253 by Callum Lucas; who remained leader before being murdered in the very early days of the Civil War as KDL parliamentarians tried to enter parliament to vote against the National Emergency Act. Prominent in the years immediately before, during and after the Civil War, the party eventually faded into a small rump organisation loosely affiliated with the Peoples Justice Party; bar occasional returns to prominence. This reformed party retained loose links to the PJP through the Socialist International but otherwise is a totally independent force.

Party Chair Sean Gallagher, in an interview from Callum Lucas House, the HQ of the party, stated his plans for the new party. "We're going to be radical; much more radical than the old KDL was. The fact is that in the past we've attempted to be moderate and while that worked in periods the fact is that we've spent a long time being little other than a minuscule wing of the People's Justice Party; a historical curiosity. Its not going to be easy - but it took the KDL four elections before breaking through in their first election and we've spent a Millennium in the wilderness, so we can afford to wait a few years".

Gallagher will lead the KDL list in the parties historical stronghold of Uwakah and be the parties candidate for Taoiseach. "We've been without a Taoiseach for too long now; that demonstrates the problems that exist with the Status Quo" said Gallagher. "I don't expect to form government any time soon but if needed I could; and I believe that we have a strong team for every important cabinet position. On the question of the Presidency the Party is likely to stand a candidate - possibly Deputy Chair Moirin Ní Flaithbheartaigh - but if required will back the People's Justice Party in a second round ballot. "Look; we need to run a candidate for visibility but we also have to remember our historical Comradeship with the KPJP; those links are special and go right back to the Civil War. We know that alliance works both ways so that's why we support them over the newer parties."

The party is currently awaiting registration with the Central Electoral Commission; and hopes that will be formally completed prior to the next elections.

Páirtí Aiséirí Náisiúnta talks of a resurrection

Páirtí Aiséirí Náisiúnta, an obscure far right political party comprised of former military servicemen and unemployed factory workers from Indrala and nearby communities, gathered at a concert hall in the nations capital to speak out against the current administration and offer an alternative for "the disinfranchised masses." In order to drive the point home Páirtí Aiséirí Náisiúnta brought along The New Order, a heavy metal act which specialises in using fast paced guitars and loud vocals to express their love of Kirlawan blood and soil much to the appreciation of a small crowd. What does the future hold for these figures, only time will tell.

President Forrest re-elected; smaller parties gain in elections

Flora Forrest has been re-elected to another term as President of Kirlawa in the most recent elections. The President required a second round to get re-elected, but she managed to receive 60% of the vote against Zuzanna McCarthy of the People's Justice Party - running with the formal support of the KDL in the run-off.

In the Parliamentary elections, the major parties all fell away as voters flocked to support minor parties. The Greens remain the biggest party, but with their vote share falling 10% they no longer are close to an overall majority in their own right, losing 73 seats. KPJP support declined over 7% and Ár Ré fell 2%.

Most of this support went to the revived KDL; who received 12% of the vote and 86 seats, and remarkably topped the poll in Merkan. The Libertarian PSK got 8% of the vote and 59 seats, marking the best ever election performance for the young party while the third positionist PAN got 4.8% and 34 seats in their first election.

Speaking on television last night, KDL President Sean Gallagher spoke of his pleasure at the election outcome. "We figured that we'd get a few seats but nothing quite this good", he said. "Its a good base to build from; and certainly puts us in a strong position to form a part of the next government." He then said that he was open to discussions with all of the parties bar the PAN; and would seek a combination of "appropriate" ministries, mostly favouring Health and Justice.

Government formation is likely to be tricky, as no combination outside a grand coalition between the People's Justice Party and the Greens would outright lead to an overall majority. A left-leaning administration is by far the most likely outcome: with the left-wing parties holding a clear majority in the Tionól Ginearálta.

PAN Third Positionists stage parade in Indrala

This afternoon, a few thousand men in orange shirts and navy blue pants carrying banners bearing a blue plough and sword upon a white disc and orange background parade through the streets of the capital in orderly procession as martial music blares overhead. These are the brave men of The Nationalist Comrades Protection Association. as they march triumphantly, the message becomes clearer to the naked eye - call us what you like because eventually our day will come and when it does you'll regret every second of it.
