Below are a collection of snippets from newspaper articles summarising key events in Egelion over the last few years.
Government CollapsesAugust 3982Amidst huge pressure following riots in the capital and a break down in law and order across the country the governing
Liberal Democrats have collapsed. The President Tiago Santana has resigned as Head of State following his implication in the corruption scandal that has rocked Egelion to the core. The scandal involved the manipulation of share prices in historically state owned companies and the subsequent murder of investigative journalists and a judge who had been chosen to investigate the scandal.
Anarchists, Communist and other assorted revolutions have sized the opportunity to launch attacks on the police, courts and other institutions of governance. A wave of violent criminality has also descended across the nation as the police struggle to contain the fall out from the collapse of the government.
Although the Cortes Generales has not been disbanded, all remaining politicians will now sit as Independents following the formal dissolution of the Liberal Democrats.
A distraught Liberal Democrat politicianCOUP!!!March 3983The military have seized control of Egelion, with soldiers patrolling the streets of the capital and senior officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force forming a new cabinet along with senior technocrats from the Civil Service. Head of the Army, General Francisco Cortez has been sworn in as the new "Regent", effectively the new Head of State for Egelion.
This follows months of anarchy in Egelion. Amongst other things the Junta have created legislation formally allowing powers of arrest to members of the armed forces and also legalising torture. This are seen as necessary measures by the new government to restore law and order to Egelion. The title "Regent" is ominous, perhaps the new Junta is supportive of a restoration of the monarchy? Many officers are known to harbour Royalist sympathies.

The General stated that "the rule of law has returned to Egelion" and that "we are well on our way to restoring the dignity and respect due to the Egelion people".
It was noted that torture is still legal and the numbers of the "disappeared" continues to grow.
General Francisco CortezPatriarchal Church Established as State ChurchOctober 3985The Patriarchal Church of Egelion has
been established as the state Church of Egelion. This follows the development of a very close relationship between the highly conservative Junta and the traditionalist Patriarchal Church which has been vocally supportive of the Junta and its policies. Legislation also criminalises blasphemy, exempts the Patriarchal Church from taxation and gives the Church an important role in the shaping and provision of education.
