President looks back, future bright
January 5, 4499
A new year, new plans. With the best wishes for the new year, the President made a reflection on the last year.
"Dear citizens. It is an honour to adress you today. The future for our glorious nation looks bright. Yet, we have encountered some difficulties in the last few years, we managed to solve each and every endeavour. We have had the closing of BTU, with the loss of many jobs. This problem was solved by attracting a foreign investor, which even boosted our economy. The trade figures look positive, both because our international agreements and the success of the Project Newport Haven. We are still planning to expand the lines of communications towards Kalistan, but the Province of Kregon already has been connected to Newport Haven by a brand new railwaysystem."
"In military and defensive issues, we have managed to cut the costs of our enormous military apparatus. The government has cut back on materials by acquiring and maintaining systems in common pool with friendly nations. Our contacts all over Terra have assured us that the position of Lodamun is safe. Some weapon systems were deleted and won't be replaced, since there is no need to do so. Our aircraft carriers have been sold, since we didn't feel the need to continue the naval path we were sailing. Our allies have their own carrier fleet and Lodamun does not feel the need to use carriers as means to attack another nation. Peace is what we seek. Therefore, the Ministry of Defence has decided to invest in our rich naval history and expand the escorting and auxiliairy capacibilities. Because of our economical position and the strategic placement of our harbours, we have decided to invest in naval mine countermeasures, with a fleet of new mine warfarevessels being ordered by MIL industries. Our lines of communications should remain open at all times. Since we managed to get permission to produce and store 'dirty' weaponry, the Minister of Defence and I are focusing on the implementation of these strategic valuable defence weapon systems. Again, peace is what we seek, but we will not have another nation dictate us what to do. Lodamun should be able to defend itself against any form of agression against our nation."
"We should think about an organisation that defends the rights of our global region. This would bring us prosperity, this would bring us enduring peace and it would give us the opportunity to minimalize certain expenses. The task for the Presidium will be this: find out which organisations seem fit for Lodamun to participate. We talk about a North-Seleyan union, an organisation that unites nations bordering the Anantonese Ocean or even other organisations might be possible. Will we focus on economy? What about Defence? Maybe a technological or scientific union might be the answer. Who knows?"
