The Liberal Party takes tough stance with Nova Terra

Port Andalay, Andalay (LCN)- Just two months after passing legislation outlining the process to declare an organization a terrorist organization, the Liberal Party leaders introduced legislation in Parliament declaring Nova Terra a terrorist organization.

"We have seen what Nova Terra wants. We have seen and heard their rhetoric. We have read their charter. They are promoting violence, fear, and instability throughout Terra. That's what terrorists do" said Kyle Poland in the floor of the Parliament.

The bill has wide support from within the party and is expected to pass with an unanimous or nearly unanimous vote.

Should the bill pass, what does this mean for Lodamun and Nova Terra? According to the recently passed Constitutional Amendment, Nova Terra will be declared an enemy of the state. Scholars have argued that the statement is too vague. "We don't know what that entitles the government to do. It definitely increases the power of the executive branch" said Dr. Manuel Nolan, Constitutional scholar.

Among the other restrictions political parties and political party members will not be allowed to be associated with Nova Terra nor aide them in any way. The Justice Minister released a statement last week indicating that a new counter terrorism task force will be established. This task force will have the sole purpose of finding and prosecuting those involved with Nova Terra.

No statements have been issued by other parties in Lodamun nor by representatives from Nova Terra.

Progress Party Returns
PORT ANDALAY, ANDALAY (LBC) -- Filling the void for a credible opposition party, the Progress Party reestablished itself in Lodamun. Pundits predict this may end the constant cycle of extending Presidential terms by the Liberal Party.

Justice Minister takes bold action against the United Republics Party

Port Andalay, Andalay (LCN)- Today, Minister of Justice James Johnson took unprecedented actions against a political party in Lodamun, the United Republics Party. The main opposition to the Liberal Party in recent years, the URP joined Nova Terra and promised financial support not too long ago. After passing the declaration of terrorist organization against Nova Terra, the Justice Minister issued a very loud warning to all political parties and their members. After sending several letters and not getting any response, the Justice Minister decided to act swiftly after getting the approval from the President.

Among the actions mandated by the Justice Minister are: freezing all the assets of the URP, closing down all of the offices occupied by URP member-officials, and arresting the leaders of the URP. The Justice Minister mandated the house arrest for all the URP leaders until further notice.

Some experts indicate that these actions may be illegal and overstepping the authority of the Justice Minister. "I don't know when the Justice Minister was granted such powers. It has never been done before by any Justice Minister. I think the government will face several lawsuits over this" said Dr. Hans Junms, professor of Constitutional theory at the University of Port Andalay.

No comments have been released by the URP.

URP Members Confused by LP Claims

PORT ANDALAY, ANDALAY (LBC) -- Matt Diggory expressed confusion when asked about his house arrest. "I'm not under house arrest as you can clearly see," said Diggory while standing outside his Parliament office. "The fact is that this decision was made by the URP steering committee and is not endorsed by myself or any other URP MP."

Terrorists turn violence into plain murder

Port Andalay, Andalay (LCN)- What was supposed to be a glorious day for Lodamun and the international community did not end with a good tone.

The United Nations of Terra was supposed to have its grand opening tonight at 7:00pm, when the General Assembly met for the first time since its foundation. However, shortly after 6:30pm, a car bomb exploded outside the building. The blast was powerful enough to cause extensive damage to the two lower floors and create panic in the building. The details of how the car made it close to the building are not yet known.

Picture taken by a bystander:

At the time of the explosion, all the diplomats from the different countries who were attending were gathered at the General Assembly's immense conference room, among them President Jonathan Kynes and his daughter, Foreign Affairs Minister Elizabeth Kynes. Soon after the terrorist attack was perpetrated, a swarm of Secret Service agents and security detail stormed into the room and evacuated everyone, including President Kynes, who was escorted out through the back door, according to reports.

The building designed for the United Nations was almost finished but the upper floor were still being worked on, thus the building is still considered under construction. Delays due to technical problems with the interior of the building caused the construction to be delayed for a month. However, the General Assembly Meeting had been scheduled a year ahead and it was decided to proceed with the meeting even though the construction of the building was not completely done.

It is also being reported that the attack at the fuel depot was not the cause of the massive power outage but rather a result of another coordinated attack to the main power lines. Though proving unsuccessful, the attack caused massive power outages. As this moment it is being reported that more than three million residents are still without power.

Earlier reports that the attack at the fuel depot had cause considerable damaged was dismissed by government officials with knowledge of the situation. They did not provide any specifics into the situation but did confirm that some damage had occurred.

The reported attacks near the Parliament and the Defense Ministry have been confirmed as well. Preliminary reports indicate that one person died and five others were injured in the incidents. Authorities believe that the attack to the Defense Ministry was targeted at the NATO Military Headquarters in the East Wing of the Ministry.

Early this morning at a press conference, President Kynes alongside some of the diplomats attending the General Assembly Meeting issued a sharp response to Nova Terra and the terrorists:

"On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. I am very saddened for what happened yeterday. It is certainly a tragedy. There is only one organization to blame for this: Nova Terra. It is disgraceful that they had to incur in such violent actions. They have reached a level of aggression that is no longer tolerable. Not only do they try to damage our institutions but also kill our people and the leaders of other countries. They are certainly despicable actions by Nova Terra.

Lodamun will not stand by nor will NATO. Our neighbors and allies know what Nova Terra is capable of and together and we will work, as one, to defeat them. Violence has no place in this world.

Yesterday, they tried to create panic, they try to scare us away into seclusion and isolationism. But we are stronger, more will-minded. We will get passed this, our people are going to recover, and once again we will pursue those responsible for this. To all of you, dear friends standing behind me, I give you my word that we will call the General Assembly Meeting to order one week from today. We will not let down.

Listen to me very carefully Nova Terra and all the others who seek to destroy us and society as we know it: We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.

Thank you."

With those words, the President concluded the press conference.

In related news, the Defense Minister announced that FPCON level had been upgraded to DELTA for the capital city of Port Andalay and that it will remain at CHARLIE for the rest of the country. The Minister of Internal Affairs also upgraded the level of a potential terrorist attack to Red (Severe).

Nova Loda Claims Responsibility for Terrorist Attacks

PORT ANDALAY, ANDALAY (LBC) -- In a statement recieved by LBC, Lodamun's Nova Terra franchise, Nova Loda, claimed responsibility for the recent terror attacks targeted at government facilities. The full text:

Citizens,
Your government has failed you. Parliament exists in name only as debate occurs, but no votes challenging the policies of the majority are allowed to proceed. This is not democracy, rather an oppressive dictatorship deriving its "legitimacy" from "elections" with no viable alternatives. With democratic avenues blocked, those of us who oppose Liberal policies have no alternative open to us but to resort to violent resistance.

These actions are indeed terrorism, but these actions are meant to terrify the government - not the people, and it apparently worked. Lodamese leaders fear the Nova Loda because their impotent actions and blockades have not prevented attacks in their own country. Destruction of the UN proved to UN ambassadors the ineffectiveness of these Liberal policies and exposed the criminal dictatorship under their own feet.

Loda Nova calls on all Lodamese citizens to continue and expand the struggle against oppression.

34 DEAD IN WEEKEND TERROR WAVE

PORT ANDALAY, ANDALAY (LBC) -- A high ranking general found strangled by garrote wire, five poisoned in the Interior Ministry, three children of the Kalistani ambassador found dead floating down the Lindar River, and a pipe bomb exploding in a cafe frequented by many Defense Ministry employees has shaken public workers, politicians, and diplomats across Lodamun. With increased government focus on guarding key government facilities and high ranking officials, Nova Loda has now targeted low-level workers from Lodamese agencies, the United Nations, and foreign diplomatic missions. "No one is safe," according to a statement from NL. An hour earlier the President's personal secretary was found dead by Port Andalay police - his body mutilated.

Leaks from Port Andalay police also indicate a startling rise in sniper attacks made by guns not sold in Lodamun and commonly associated with Hobrazian special forces.
