MIC under military control?
February 6, 4278
Manu Karacz, Minister of Defence, has presented a strategic plan fort he future military of Lodamun. A part of this plan is a massive change within the Maritime Information Center. He and the Minister of Internal Affairs have signed a letter of understanding earlier today.
Colonel Karacz explains: “Since our nation has chosen to act more isolationist on the political scheme and will be very carefull in chosing which nations we will have economic contacts with, we need to sharpen our Homeland Defence System. Up to now, both Internal Affairs and the military were responsible for the protection of our borders by sea. To ease this matter of shared responsibility, we have chosen to transfer the MIC tot he Defence department, but obviously with intensive ties and a clear line of communication towards the Ministry of Internal Affairs.”
This means that military personnel will take over the tasks at the MIC, on land as at sea.
“The MIC fleet lacks everything but expertise. Therefore I have ordered the military staff to investigate the needs for a military coastguard. The Naval Staff already is investigating several options to modernize the fleet. The consortium MIL is working on a design of a modern type of patrolvessel to support MIC. If we decide to build these vessels, there are arrangements with the Ministry of Finance to achieve a massive injection of valuta.”
The Minister of Defence is quite certain these vessels will be ordered pretty soon, since he plans on scrapping an important part of the old naval vessels. Apparently most of the nation’s frigates are in terrible shape and would not be replaced: “These new patrol vessels would be well armed and would, partially, replace the frigates of both fleets. We are entering a new era and the Naval Staff is working on a plan to simplify the Naval Task Forces. One of the options is to drop the main Battle Group, since these battleships are likewise in poor shape and do no longer fit in the plan for the future of our military navy.”
