Cabinet formed
Lodamun Labour Party, Progressive Socialist Party and the Secular Humanist Party reach an agreement

20 April 4423 - Port Golavia Lodamun recieved a new cabinet, the cabinet formed by a coalition of the LLP, PSP and SHP, recieved approval by the Presidium yesterday. After several months of negotiation the parties reached a agreement and backing of the majority of the Presidium. For the past 4 years the LLP and PSP formed a coalition, after the election the PSP and LLP just fell short of the 300 seats needed to get a majority. The two parties invited the new Secular Humanist Party to join the coalition. The coalition will work on modernizing and expanding the military of Lodamun and want to raise the age of adulthood to 18 in Lodamun. Cathy Durand, the party leader of the LLP will not take a seat in the cabinet and remain in the benches of the Presidium: "Our presidential candidate, Kate Cohen, lost the election to James Montague of the Liberals, in Lodamun the President also chairs the cabinet meetings and is Head of Government. For this reason I think my place would be in the Presidium leading the LLP." Our political correspondent, Charles Terran had this to say on the newly formed coalition: "Even though the parties managed to get an agreement, that doesn't mean the comming years will be easy. The SHP has been rewarded with Health and Social Services and Education and Culture, powerful ministries with the two largest budgets of all the departments and important issues and intrests. The PSP and LLP are taking some sort of a risk putting the new kid on the block on those departments. The SHP ministers will really need to prove themselves. Also the Head of Government can cause tension. The Liberal Progressives and Lodamun Labour Party/Progressive Socialist Party are bitter rivals. With the Liberals calling the Progressive Socialists the lapdogs of the LLP and putting up fierce opposition to LLP/PSP policy and the LLP accusing the Liberals of malicious privatization lust, the chance that there will be a friendly relationship between the Head of Government and the cabinet is very small."

May out!
Premier Bella May (LP) resigns over constant disagreement with cabinet.

14 February 4424 - Port Golavia The Liberal Progressive Bella May resigned from the office of Premier. May held the office from the election of 4422 still february. May said in the press release: "I couldn't continue supporting a government that continuously goes against my own and my party's interests, I have tried remaining to promote the stability of the country, but found myself unable to keep this position." After the election and cabinet formation many expected it would be a uneasy relationship. May's party, the Liberal Progressives and the parties in the cabinet, especially the LLP and PSP, are not known to be friends. Yet with the Lodamun constitution the party which wins the Presidency also wins the office of Head of Government. For the LLP and PSP this resignation comes as a pleasant suprise, the Presidium recently voted for a constitution change seperating the office of Head of Government and the Presidency. This change in the constitution allows for the cabinet to propose it's own Head of Government. With the LLP being the largest party this honor will most likely go to LLP leader Cathy Durand, which had this to say:"The LLP is very happy with the decision of May to resign, Lodamun deserves a cabinet who can focus on the problems in our nation and not on the latest outbursts of the Premier. May is a hawkish figure, the LLP was suprised that the Liberals even put her forward as candidate for Premier. The resignation only shows that our doubts were correct."

Lodamun to support Istalia for Security Council
Cabinet reaches agreement to support Istalia.

22 March 4424 - New Golavia The cabinet of Lodamun reached an agreement on which nation to support for the Security Council in region 'B'. Currently the nation of Lodamun backed the Kingdom of Vanuku, a nation that in the past years has been highly critized for it's actions, which Lodamun recognizes as a crime. James McAvoy (PSP), Minister of Foreign Affairs had this to say to the Presidium:"Not long ago this presidium has decided to sever all ties with the Kingdom of Vanuku, after their use of nuclear arms. Therefore, the foreign office hereby request the presidium to change our vote for the security council seat 'B', as we currently still vote for Vanuku. We have chosen the country of Istalia as they are a strong democracy who believe in the rule of law, and have an exemplary record in the security council." Newly appointed Prime Minister Cathy Durand (LLP) said the following on her first TV interview as new Prime Minister:"It is a shame that it took Lodamun so long to change our vote, but I and the cabinet are happy that we have reached an agreement on which nation to back and will once again give Vanuku the signal that Lodamun condemns the actions of Vanuku." With the full cabinet backing the decision of the foreign office is there a majority of the Presidium in favour of supporting Istalia.

Republican Leadership Contest

July 4425

Francis Young was today confirmed as the new leader of the Republican Party, following the vote of no confidence in Thomas McDonald. Last week Thomas McDonald, the founder of the Republican Party, narrowly won the vote of no confidence with 37 votes in favour of his leadership, 29 against and six abstentions. Although McDonald had won the contest he resigned shortly afterwards citing that he couldn't continue as leader.

Francis Young, who had spoken in favour of Thomas McDonald but was also linked to some of the leading figures involved in the plot to remove McDonald, put himself forward as a leadership candidate. Sophie Rainworth and Michael Fleming also stood in the contest. Young articulated a populist position that would see the party revoke its previous support for free market positions on many issues, whereas Rainworth and Fleming both stood for a continuity McDonald platform. In the end Young easily won with the support of 44 MP's in the final run off, against 28 for Rainworth.

Young had been the Defence spokesmen for the Republican Party and had been very active in proposing pro-military legislation in the Presidium. He heralds from Kregon, although stood for election in Norstaven at the last Presidium elections, although has announced his interest in leading the Kregon list at the next election.

Young is also a member of the Reformed Confessional Church of Lodamun, a small Hosian Church operating across the country. Although the Church is estimated to have less than a million members, it is known that a surprisingly large number of Republican Party members of the Presidium are linked to the RCC or an affiliated congregation.

Cabinet proposes tax decrease
The tax on luxury products to be lowered in new spending plan.

18 august 4425 - Port Golavia - Minister Isaac of Finance proposed a new budget in which the tax on luxery products is lowered by 5%. The plan proposed by Minister Isaac cuts 3,5 billion LOD from different departments. "Our government has decentralized a large amount of it's task to local governments, this saves money for the central government. With the saved LOD we can now lower the tax burden on our citizens and increase their spending capabilities. The decrease will allow for non-essential products to become cheaper, stimulating our economy." Minister Isaac said, "Of course the Presidium still has to vote for the proposal but we believe that it will have enough support." Alexander Prince, the leader of the SHP had the following to say:"After deliberation in the government coalition, the SHP can announce that they agree with the proposal presented by the LLP Minister." Even the strongest opponents of the cabinet, the LP and RP, cheered the proposal of the cabinet. "It is as if the LLP has seen the light! Decreasing spending and devolving government functions are our platform and we will therefore support these measures." said Bella May of the Liberals. Francis Young of the RP added,"Tax cuts and a reduction in state spending, this is music to my ears!" The leader of the LLP in the Presidium, Gideon Patton, also responded on the proposal with the following, "The cabinet has done, what the Liberal Progressives always told they would do, cut spending and decrease taxes. This proposal will benefit the people of Lodamun, it will benefit our economy, there are no losers in this proposal."

Labour Party Founder passes away at age 85
Lodamun Labour Party mourns the loss of their founder.

4 September 4425 - Lindar Heights The founder of the Lodamun Labour Party, Lars Isaacson, passed away this morning in his home in Lindar Heights. Isaacson founded the LLP in 4398. In the historic first congress of the party Isaacson said:"The LLP is founded to give the people of Lodamun a real choice and to put the Presidium back to work.". In the first election after its founding the party recieved 34 seats, making the participation of the LLP in the Presidium a fact. In 4409 Isaacson left politics, after leading the LLP for 11 years. After that he withdrew himself from public life, rarely making an appearance at LLP congresses. Only after the victory in 4418, when the LLP became the largest party in the Presidium for the first time, gave he a TV interview along with Kate Cohen about the history of the LLP and the first days of the party. The media often claimed that Isaacson suffered from depression, which was constantly denied by the LLP, claiming that Isaacson just wanted to enjoy his retirement and was keen on his privacy.

We asked his former close associates, many of them still active for the LLP, what they reminded of him. Current Minister of Defence remembered Isaacson well: "He was a close friend, you could always trust him, something that is rare in politics. After my time in the army he wouldn't stop asking me to become the LLP's specialist on defence, he wouldn't take no for an answer. Now years later I am Minister of Defence." Kate Cohen, who became his second-in-command during the early years and his successor after he left politics, released the following statement: "It shocked me this morning when his daughter called me to tell the news. I alwaysed viewed him as my mentor, even after he left politics we occasionally had discussions about politics. Many believed he wanted nothing to do with politics anymore, which may be a bit true, but he stilled followed it and was fully up-to-date on all the ins and outs."

Lodamun prepares for elections
Eight parties battle for the 599 seats in the Presidium.

29 august 4426 - Lodamun Posters on every corner of the street, politicians on every tv channel, campaigners knocking on the doors. To the citizens of Lodamun it is clear that it is election time. In a bit more than one month the people of Lodamun have to cast their ballot on one of the seven parties in the Presidium or the newcomer the Conservative Democratic Union Lodamun, which is hoping to gain a place in the Presidium. In addition to that the voters will also have to decide who becomes the President for the comming four years. The current cabinet parties annouced that they will support the candidate of the Progressive Socialist Party the 71 year old Luuk Voncken, while some expect the Republicans to back the candidate of the Liberal Progressives and current President, James Montague. Leading the currently largest party in the Presidium, Cathy Durand, was asked what see expects of the comming election: "The cabinet has left Lodamun in a even more healthier state than before our cabinet started. Taxes are down, our navy is rewarded with new ships, the cabinet has made work of decentralization, Lodamun became a bigger player in the international stage and the childeren of Lodamun get to enjoy longer and better education. We believe that the people of Lodamun see this and will reward our parties for the work we delivered. We ask the people of Lodamun to go out and vote!" The President of the 2nd Great Republic of Lodamun, James Montague, was asked what he thought about the upcoming elections. Montague: "These elections will prove critical in determining the fate of our great nation. Will the people reject the dangerous left-wing Metzist LLP-PSP alliance and finally usher in a new era? Or will these parties once again prevail, prolonging the course of repression of individual liberties in our country? There is only one way to make sure the parties that will protect your freedom get to rule: go out and vote Liberal Progressive!" With eight parties participating, a record number, it is expected that there will be a record turnout of voters.

Republican party wins 4426 election, Progressive Socialist Party takes Presidency
Right-winged parties gain majority in Presidium.

2 october 4426 - Port Golavia - Celebrations at the Republican Party as they become the largest party of Lodamun for the first time in their relative short existance. With 178 seats they are the clear victors of the 4426 elections with no party comming close to their results. For the traditional parties the evening was less pleasant. The Lodamun Labour Party suffered a massive loss of 129 seats, putting them on 52 seats. The loss was enough for Cathy Durand to step down as leader of the LLP. "Let me first congratulate all the parties who have won in this election, it was a long campaign for all parties and they deserve our respect for that. My friends, tonight is not a night we had hoped for; for 8 years our party took responsiblity for Lodamun, we have achived so many things of which we can be proud of. But my friends, in politics hard work is not always rewarded; that is a harsh fact with which we have to live. Better times will come, tonight it is time to lick our wounds; tomorrow we will fight again." Durand said in a emotional speech to LLP members.

4426 Election
    1. Republican Party - 179 seats - +106
    2. National-Socialist Lodamun Workers Party - 91 - +40
    3. Progressive Socialist Party - 92 - -25
    4. Secular Humanist Party - 61 - +11
    5. Liberal Progressives - 58 - -43

Republican Party leader calls Majatra and Dovani 'Shitholes'
Francis Young of the Republican Party doesn't want aid to go to Majatra and Dovani without something in return.

3 october 4427 - Port Golavia During the debate of a proposal by the Conservative Democrats to only give aid to nations when they promise trade rights, the leader of the largest party in the Presidium, Francis Young, refered to Majatra and Dovani as 'shitholes'. The leader of the Republican Party said that if Lodamun is going to give aid to 'shithole' countries like Dovani and Majatra; Lodamun should get something in return. Emma Steffen, Labour MP on Foreign Affairs, condemned the words of Francis Young, stating that all nations of Terra should be treated with respect in the Presidium. Which left the leader of the Republicans speechless.

Era of Transformation in Lodamun

Jan 4428

Fallout from the last election continues

15 months after the seismic shock legislative elections of October 4426 and a year after the formation of a new right-wing government for the first time after years of left-wing rule, Lodamun is being transformed. The previous government consisting of the Labour Party, Progressive Socialists and Secular Humanists lost 143 seats, while the right-wing Republican Party, National Socialists and Conservative Democratic Union gained an impressive 184 seats. The right-wing parties alone held a majority of seats in the new Presidium and with the addition of the Liberal Progressives have a government with the support of 365 members of the Presidium.

And this new government has hit the ground running, a wave of new legislation has been pushed through the Presidium or is currently at vote. Although the governing parties are disparate in ideology, there is a common theme to much of the legislation which either reduces the role of the state in economic matters, devolves policy decisions to the region, or brings in socially conservative legislation. For the first time in many years Lodamun joins the ranks of economically capitalist and socially conservative nations.

The power behind the throne

Francis Young, leader of the Republicans was narrowly defeated in the last Presidential elections. He secured over 27 million votes in the second round, but was defeated by just under 50,000 votes. It was widely expected that Mr Young would look at taking the Prime Minister position, however when a cabinet was put to vote it was Mr Youngs deputy Regina Miller that became Head of Government. Mr Young has continued to lead the Republcians in the Presidium and has continued to work behind the scenes managing the relationship between the different coalition parties.

Mr Young took over as leader of the Republicans before the last election and pushed the party in an economically populist direction which led to massive gains at the election in October 4426. It is thought that this shrewd strategist is considering a second run at the Presidency in elections scheduled for October 4430. If he could pull of a victory that would be a remarkable achievement for a party founded in 4422 that has truly managed to transform politics in Lodamun.
