Kazulian Army Advance slows as Front Stabilises
Gains in the last year have been small as the first pitched battle of the war occurs around SutherlandThe KA and FAF seem locked in a north/south divisionThe Kazulian Army failed in it's objectives last year of capturing Thorgerd before the new elections of the 3079 government exactly one year ago today. Predictably the election was won overwhelmingly by the VPK, but ministers left their swearing in ceremony to see a terrifying sight before them. In the months of the summer of 3089, ten years after they had first taken office, the Kazulian army had broken the defending forces on the flank of Thorgerd and were rolling past the city en masse.
The ensuing "Autumn Offensive" swept down the western border of Kazulia, surrounding the VPK-held cities of Krigsvatn River. Only halted just north of Hafleikn as 3080 rolled around, it left the three major strongholds of western VPK power completely surrounded, facing assault and barrage from all directions. However, six months on, neither city seems to be falling.
The ill-fated third army assault on Gna, which would have turn FAF defensive lines in two, was surrounded and destroyed utterly by the fifth and seventh armies, having turned to the FAF forces in the eve of revolution. The land around Lake Grontius is now known as the tank graveyard for the sheer number of armour left destroyed or abandoned as the army poured back towards Ulfmaerr. Hasty defences were thrown up in the passes around the mountain city as the saviours of Gna closed in in the winter of 3079.
North, the FAF advance continued, stopped just short of Drenton cities by KA reservists sent from Skalm. The deadlock in the mountainous passes and forests has disolved into disjointed clashes, guerrilla retreats and sporadid advances. However, FAF forces, with vast superiority in numbers, seem to be gradually pushing towards the defensively vital town of Borgny.
As the spring of 3090 came around, and KA forces prepared for a massive assault on the cities of the west, the FAF saught to re-open the eastern front. A sudden all-out assault towards Borgny and on the now layers of defences of Ulfmaerr surged forwards.
Initial advances in March through to May came to a stuttering halt as the rise of summer allowed KA armour to move south from the capital. Horror stories of entire squads simply run down by tanks as they attempted to block their path were heard. A surrounding effort about Borgny was thrown back, retreating and injured fleeing back into what was swiftly becoming known by both forces as the "Eastern Bulge". However, as lines returned to those of winter, both forces found themselves stalemated once more by July.
August brought a new event in the civil war. The Fifth and Ninth army, releaved from the siege of Ulfmaerr by Hulstrian irregulars, moved north to attempt to flank the KA defensive line at Suthrland. At the same time, the Second and Eighth armies, loyal to the KA, were moving south to relieve Ulfmaerr. The two forces, completely without ariel support or any real information of opposition movements, stumbled into eachother at Suthrland. The battle of Suthrland was joined.
Two army units, nearly equally matched, met at the border of the mountains with the plains. A month later, both are tightly locked in a strategic and tactical deadlock, the battle could very well decide the war.
