Augustan Embargo On Deltaria,
Emperor: Drill, drill, drill.

October 4773

The Zardic Augustan government has announced that it is imposing a total embargo on Deltaria with immediate effect. Emperor Lazaro urged his subjects to comply with the Embargo and vowed to continue with the Lake Majatra drilling constructions. So far 4 of the 11 planned rigs have been constructed on the Lake, some are located close to the very centre and it appears that at least some of the new ones are likely to be built in what the Emperor describes as "prefectural territory" The Emperor said that any lost trade with Deltaria would be cushioned by "associations with new and better partners"

"Deltarian Spy" Seized In Lake Majatra.
November 4773

The Augustan Zardic government has announced that last night at 10:46am the Coast Guard rammed and seized a "suspicious man and so-called fishing vessel" The man, according to the government was sailing within "Augustan territorial waters" in the middle of Lake Majatra. The Augustan said they believed he was about to sabotage an oil rig about 4km from where they boarded his boat. Hours after his capture, the man appeared on Zardic national TV and "revealed" through a heavily swollen mouth that his name was Marek Tajic and he had been sent to spy on the oil rig by the Deltarian foreign intelligence service. Emperor Lazaro denounced "this extreme violation of Augustan sovereignty and announced that he would need up the Coast Guard and continue to assert the Empire's claims

Peace Agreement Reached
21 December 4773

The Augustan Empire's logothete fot foreign affairs Abramio Kamatero has announced that Zardugal and Deltaria have reached and signed a peace agreement ending the three day war that broke out over Augustan expansionist activities in Lake Majatra. The two delegations met in Cachtice, Deltaria and the still stunned Augustans signed the agreement with little debate. The Cachtice Agreement declares an immediate end to hostilities. The Augustans agreed to surrender their claims to the various Majatran countries and to undertake to retain only "defensive military capability" The economic sanctions imposed by either nation will also be lifted.

The Augustan remain dazed at the massive defeat inflicted upon them. The Emperor himself is like many of his subjects, unusually aloof and has not commented on the outcome of the war nor appeared in public in close to three days now. It appears that Logothete Kamatero and other technocratic-ish members of the imperial administration took the initiative on the peace negotiation and agreement.

The so-called limited war has destroyed much of Zardugal's air strength, which was not too much to begin with. Yet the Deltarians' careful targeting of military sites excused the vast majority of civilians from physical damage, if not of course, psychological.

Peace Delegation Arrested At Airport

December 4773

Members of the 36 member Augustan delegation to the Cachtice peace talks met no well wishers at the Beleco International Airport, but instead dozens of ordinary and military police officers. and jeering mobs.

Zards have recovered from their post-defeat daze and are now infuriated at what the Emperor described as a "vast conspiracy against the very spirit of the Augustan nation. According to the Emperor and allied media outlets, members of the delegation and " several other traitors" abetted Deltarian spying and went soft at the negotiation table due to bribery or just rank lack of patriotism.

The Emperor has begun another Great Cleansing crusade directing at purging so-called traitors from public political, economic and media spaces. Yet as many observers have noted, Lazaro has not taken any serious steps at abandoning the agreement and appears to be abiding by it. He has presented some official protests to the Deltarians, calling for renegotiation of the terms .

The PSJL states that such a idea is for the people to decide, with rumors of a republic being form being likely. Now the question is how the Emperor would respond to this development, which is a worry to many in the nation and a possible conflict point going forward with the new government.

La Imperia
Ultranationalists March on Beleco

Pĥero Hannibalianido, Pretender to the Imperial Throne Championed by Fronto de Aŭgustana Vekiĝo

In blatant defiance of the totalitarian system of dissident repression that had fallen upon the Empire following her defeat in the Three Day War with Deltaria, a massive march on the capital was held by a far-right nationalist group known as Fronto de Aŭgustana Vekiĝo (Augustan Awakening Front). The FAV, which a number of political commentators (both government and underground) have labeled as fascist, has been a steadily growing movement in the wake of the Three Day War and has been persecuted by the reigning government for their opposition to Basileus Lazaro. However, this march that has numbered in the thousands has allowed to take place relatively unharrassed, though there have been a few cases of police arresting and beating march ringleaders. When the march came to its climax outside the resident of the Basileus, the crowd was calmed and spoken to by Pĥero Hannibalianido, a leading figure in the movement and pretender to the imperial throne who had been wanted by the state for the past three year. Hannibalianido's speech was short and to the point, and clearly emphasized one of the main demands of the FAV: Lazaro must go. Blaming Basileus Lazaro for instigating the Three Day War and failing to properly lead the Empire against Deltaria, then effectively abandoning the nation and his duties as Emperor and Autocrat of the Augustans, Hannibalianido effectively called Lazaro a weak ruler and called for his removal and replacement by a more worthy Basileus. It was at this point that the crowd was dispersed by police, who launched tear gas into the crowd, closed in on those who wouldn't disperse, and then arrested and beat hundreds of marchers. The morning following the march, Basileus Lazaro publicly denounced the march on national television and claimed that it was nothing more than a few hundred rowdy thugs.

La Imperia
FAV Secures Imperial Senate
November 11, 4783

Imperial Senate Building

Facing increased pressure from opposition movements Mladeno Nikeforido, the Megas Logothete, has called for a general election against the wishes of Basileus Lazaro, which have resulted in sweeping victories for the Fronto de Aŭgustana Vekiĝo who has, along with independent nationalist candidates that have chosen to caucus with the FAV, secured 100% of the seats in the Imperial Senate, and have already drafted a resolution to remove Lazaro from power and replace him with Pĥero Hannibalianido. The Basileus was reportedly infuriated not only with the proposal of the bill and the FAV's electoral success, but also with the perceived betrayal of Mladeno Nikeforido in his calling for the elections, and has since sacked and replaced him.

As loyalty to and trust in the Basileus has waned in recent years, insubordination has become increasingly rampant in the Empire, which has lead to the gradual degradation of the Basileus' power, which by now has de facto fallen simply to cabinet appointment. The most overt showcase of the Basileus' newfound impotence has been with his most recent commands to the Domestic of the Army to place Beleco under martial law and arrest all members of the opposition, which was blatantly ignored by the Domestic. Even the secret police have refused the orders of the Basileus when they were ordered to arrest Mladeno Nikeforido following his removal from office. With the power and influence of Basileus Lazaro existing in a state of perpetual free fall while the Fronto de Aŭgustana Vekiĝo only becomes more powerful and more revered, it has become increasingly clear that a new era in Augustan politics is coming to a head.
