Democracy Protest Marches Take Place As Government Delays Election

Image
Thousands of people join the protests against the government in Skavejo.

Tens of thousands of people across the nation took to the streets to demonstrate over the Zardic government's decision to push back the Republic Assembly election by 12 months to March 4258.

Chief Minister Olimpio Gracchus called for the extension to the current legislative term so that the vote could take place on the same day as the scheduled inaugural presidential election. He said the date to the elect the new Republican head of state could not be arranged any earlier due to "pro-monarchy elements trying to put a spanner in the works".

He added that having the assembly and presidential votes at the same time would help to stimulate interest in the democratic process, increase turnout and cut the costs of staging elections.

However, many people were not buying his explanation and said the decision to extend the legislative term to six years was merely an "excuse" to cling onto power for longer. The decision comes on the back of other sweeping constitutional reforms which include making the position of president largely ceremonial and drastically cutting down on the number of bills a party can propose in the Republic Assembly.

Among those who joined the mainly peaceful protests was civil rights activist Joshuria Ecclesios. He said: "I voted for the Socialist Republicans and was delighted when they swept to power. Many of their social and economic decisions have been extremely popular with people but the constitutional amendments of the last few months have really started to raise eyebrows.

"We cannot have a government with too much power in one person, which also limits the ability of parties to propose law changes and now cuts down on accountability by extending the legislative term. That's why we are protesting to let the government know the changes are not acceptable."

Chief Minister Gracchus rebutted the accusations and the need for the protest marches. In a statement issued to the Zardic World Report he said: "The government has taken progressive steps to enhance democracy in our nation and encourage more people to participate in the voting process by bring the two most important national elections together on one day. It is also a considerable saving for the public purse to hold them jointly.

"We believe the marches are unnecessary and, in the main, have been instigated by pro-monarchist supporters who are still smarting from our decision to take this nation in a republican direction. To have those who believe in hereditary rule to be protesting about democracy is, of course, an ironic notion."
“I venture to suggest that patriotism is not a short and frenzied outburst of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.”

Collapse of Socialist Republican Government After Demonstrators Force Early Elections

The Left Wing government of Zardugal, which has had an iron grip on power for the last four years, has sensationally collapsed overnight after growing pro-democracy protests forced an early election.

Voters in their tens of millions switched sides to narrowly elect the Royal Conservative Party to run the country. It was a dramatic swing which saw the dominant Socialist Republican Party completely relinquish power.

It was a humiliating defeat for Chief Minister Olimpio Gracchus who had tried to push the Assembly elections back to 4258 but had been met with a growing wall of protest from people who said his action were anti-democratic.

At first he tried to pass the protests off as the work of pro-monarchist sympathisers but as the ground swell of opinion against him continued he was forced to listen to the peoples' wishes.

Finally, with bordering nations starting to show concerns regarding the unrest he called a snap election to try to stabilise the situation. But the popularity that saw his party elected with 81 per cent of the vote in 4252 had completely faded and people returned to the Conservatives, despite their agenda to restore a constitutional monarchy.

Within hours of the heavy defeat Gracchus resigned as party leader and under the strain of the political fall out the Socialist Republican Party collapsed as quickly and as suddenly as it had arrived on the scene a decade earlier.

It is not known if a new left-wing party will rise out of their ashes or whether the Royal Conservative Party will be able to dominate politics for many years to come.
“I venture to suggest that patriotism is not a short and frenzied outburst of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.”

The Majatran Alliance ready to work and invest in Majatra!
The political stability achieved by Zardugal and the enthusiasm of Pontesia, Deltaria and East Kalopia make began the proposals for an active, prosperous and strong MA

MAJATRA - The latest meetings of the various Majatran Allied Interministerial Committees have announced the future development of cooperation between the Alliance member countries: two will be geared towards research and technological development co-operation, the other could become a key engine for the economic development of the organization.
The member countries have committed themselves to combining aeronautical and space efforts with the creation of the Majatran Allied Space Authority, to which the Allied nations' agencies and space programs will co-operate.
The Majatran Allied Council for Research and Development will then be founded to support, finance and coordinate the Member States' scientific efforts, knowledge, and technology capabilities for the benefit of the entire Alliance.
But probably the most expected novelty was the creation of the Majatran Allied Industrial and Investment Fund, to which the Alliance nations will have access to finance strategic public projects that will secure benefits for the nation and the rest of the Alliance. But the Fund will also be open to the privates: in fact, individuals and companies will be able to demand support from the Alliance by presenting projects related to start-ups, business projects and activities related to the most advanced technologiesand strategic resources.
Istalia and Zardugal have long been working closely to proceed with such projects and the arrival of new members who are extremely willing to cooperate and accepted with great interest to join the Alliance has been the driving force needed to concretize them.
From Zardugal, the Government has confirmed that these will be only the first of the other future projects and stated that the next steps will have to be in the field of education and culture and that they will have to allow Alliance's peoples to know themselves, exchange ideas and mutually enrich themselves for the good of the next generations.
The expansion of the Alliance around Lake Majatra and the more than cordial relationships with Cobura before and Jakania recently seem to have been reducing the tensions and the troubles in the area, with Jelbania, a notoriously turbulent country, seemingly isolated in one of the most orthodox regimes of the Majatran Revolutionary Socialist Federation.
Unfortunately, the tensions in Majatra have returned to re-energize along the border between the two Kalopia, back into being an iron curtain between Democracy and Dictature, between civilizations and barbarians and with a real "Thallerist invasion" in half Majatra. In Kalopia, the chaos following the end of Socialism has allowed the current Tyrant of Western Kalopia to conquer the power, and in Deltaria two political party supporters of the Thallers have already appeared, and even in Istalia a Thallerist Party appeared, disturbing almost all the political scene.
Istalia put itself at the head of a resolute international front aimed at countering the expansion of the Thallers, with other members of the Majatran Alliance and other majatran nations which already have confirmed their opposition and their will to counter the invasion, what has already been described as a Cancer that, decaying in Artania, is growing in Majatra, taking advantage like a vulture of the decadence of the MRSF and ready to upset the lifestyle, cultures and rights of hundreds of millions of majatrians

Key Istalo-Zardic industrial cooperation: Ajace and Venetio united to conquer the inter-Majatran transport
The two companies join in to produce a family of midrange airliners taking advantage of the increase of the travel inside the Majatran Alliance
Image

ROMULA - The agreement has been finally finalized after several years of studies and negotiations encouraged by a certain degree of international stability that Majatra is experiencing for several years now.
This stability has helped and stimulated the increase of the traffic of goods and people through Majatra, especially among the member states of the Majatran Alliance, and rising in demand has stimulated the air transport market with an increase in turnover for several historic airlines but also with the emergence of several low-cost companies, especially in Istalia and Zardugal, the two most developed Alliance's countries.
And it is precisely to respond to a market looking for short and medium-range airplanes, perfect for the needs of the continental market, that Ajace Aeronautics and Venetio Aeronautics (its division for the civilian market) have signed the ambitious industrial cooperation agreement.
The two companies, during the press conference for public announcement of the agreement, presented the preliminary plans of a new jets family, narrow-body planes with a capacity between 100 and 150 passagers and an autonomy of about 5000 kilometers, with the possibility of developing models up to 200 seats.
The airplanes will integrate the latest technologies such as glass cockpit, fly-by-wire, composite fuselage and wings, and therefore technologies to reduce pollutant emissions, operating costs, fuel consumption and noise pollution.
Ajace and Venetio are clearly winking at the low-cost airlines, not only the Majatran ones of course, and at the needs of larger companies to increase mostly infra-regional exchanges, an increasingly present reality in Majatra as in other continents in the light of the already mentioned almost a decade of relative peace and international stability.

Image
Possible concepts of the first two models of the new airliners family

Within the project, Ajace will deal with the commercialization of aircrafts, the production of hardware and software of the internal systems and of the engines, while Venetio will produce the structural parts and then build and assemble the aircraft, reflecting the excellence of both Istalian and Zardic industries, specializing in state-of-the-art electronic and computer systems and in the high-tech metallurgical and aerospace industry.
The industrial initiative will benefit not only the two companies directly involved but of course also a galaxy of subcontractors and suppliers both in Istalia and Zardugal as well as in other parts of the Majatran Alliance.
During the press conference, during which the CEOs of the two companies spoke, Niccolò Marchionni for Ajace and Denisa Atanas for Venetio, it was announced that the first flight of a prototype should take place between 4294 and 4295 while the commercialisation before the end of the century, thanks to the fact that Ajace has been involved in a number of preliminary projects and in a feasibility study which was joined by Venetio for two years sharing the results in the research and developments in the field of composite and high-tech materials.
But the cooperation between the two companies seems to be only at the beginning and will not only be limited to this agreement: Ajace and Venetio are among the companies that more than others have made pressure on their governments and on the authorities of the Majatran Alliance to develop the programs of MASA (Majatran Aeronautics and Space Authority) in view of cooperation within the Allied organization.
Both companies have invested in space technologies by funding various start-ups and by launching specialized branches and according to some corridor indiscretions, both companies would like to continue cooperating especially in the low-cost orbital launchers sector, to become a market leader and also prime subcontractors for the MASA itself and the various national space agencies that cooperated within it.

The announcement have had also positive impact on the financial markets and for the stocks of both companies on the respective markets as well as on the international markets and hence prospects for productive growth with job creation in both Istalia and Zardugal.

LNK opens new Headquarters: New Dawn for Zardugal Tech Sector?

July 4211 - Leukopolo, Kalvario.
The new headquarter campus of the Libera Noviga Konsorcio (LNK) [Open Innovation Consortium] officially opened today, marking the end of a near-two year process to get the Public-Private partnership off the ground. The facilities include a Computing and Artificial Intelligence Lab, a Transit and Mobility Research Institute, a Open Pharmacology Lab, and a Telecommunications Development Department, amoong others. Inserted betweem these laboratories and offices, innovative “shared workplaces” and “community spaces” allow researchers and entrepreneurs to work in close tandem, as part of what the Minister of Science and Technology hopes will inspire new tech start-ups and a spin off effect in Zardugal.

“Zardugal is ripe to become the next leader in Terra in science and technology.” said Koralo Vinikio, the Minister of Science and Technology under whose portfolio the LNK principally falls. “Leukopolo is an optimal location to focus our innovation as well. It not only has great educational institutions and an educated population, but also great cultural amenities and is bursting with creativity.”

The project was approved by the National Assembly in summer 4309, receiving an initial 5 billion ZAR investment over the 4309-4312 fiscal years. This was matched by just under 5 billion ZAR in capital raised from private investors.

“Our whole model is to work on open source, open science, open knowledge.” explained Edmundo Gato, Minister of Trade and Industry. “We’re reinventing and reinvigorating the innovation process by rapidly sharing and building on information and the works of others.”

While the new LNK certainly is generating hype, particularly in Leukopolo where it has the possibility to transform the city and region, it remains to be seen how successful the project is able to translate research into innovation on the market.

RE-ELECTED CHIEF MINISTER PROMISES MASSIVE INVESTMENT IN KEY INDUSTRIES

Image
Chief Minister Zlatan Temelkido addresses supporters following his election victory.

Zlatan Temelkido has pledged to use his second term as Chief Minister to reinvigorate Zardugal's economy and reignite its maritime industries.

The Socialisma Respublika Partio leader has seen his left-wing coalition government maintain its small working majority in the National Assembly and close ally Laŭrenco Dionisio, of the Klara Sablo - Populara Movado, re-elected as President.

Temelkido has said further nationalisation of key industries as part of a duel economy approach was essential in achieving his goal of economic success. Meanwhile, investment of up to 5 billion Zards is set to be pumped into major new ship building facilities at Konstandia, Unkaso, which is home to the country's biggest naval base and the Kostandian Bay Maritime Corporation. The KBMC employs tens of thousands of people in the country and is 51 per cent owned by the government.

It is believed that another large slice of the money will be used to improve Zardugal's naval fleet with several of the country's flagship aircraft carriers in need of replacement after years of stagnation on the military front.

Further investment is being channelled into new port facilities in Limenostomo, Zardugal's third city based on the shores of Lake Majatra, which is seen as a major trading hub between the nation and many of its neighbours on the continent.

Chief Minister Temelkido said: "The electorate have put their confidence in my government for a second term. It demonstrates that our policies are working and are right for the people. I spent the first fours year in office reversing the policies of a mismanaged economy and a broken social, healthcare and welfare system. I will spend the next four making sure our economy and vital industries receive the investment they need to compete on a global scale."
“I venture to suggest that patriotism is not a short and frenzied outburst of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.”

NUCLEAR-WEAPON-FREE ZARDUGAL IS PAVING THE WAY FOR TERRA, SAYS TEMELKIDO

Image
A thing of the past.. Zardugal's nuclear stockpile is to be decommissioned.

Chief Minister Zlatan Temelkido has hailed Zardugal as an exemplar for a peaceful Terra after politicians agreed an outright ban on nuclear, biological and chemical weaponry.

Despite facing strong opposition in the National Assembly, Temelkido's coalition government narrowly managed to push through reforms which will see an end to research, production and storage of such weapons as well as usage by the nation's armed forces.

Zardugal already has a reputation for being a frontrunner in pioneering policy, being the only nation to place a blanket ban on the use of private cars, opting instead for a fully subsidised and sophisticated public transport system.

Temelkido said the tens of billions saved from dropping Zardugal's nuclear weapons programme would be used to ensure the country had conventional armed forces fit for the future, with other savings being ploughed into economic reform and projects such as the recently announced extension to the Kostandian Bay Maritime Corporation and the building of new port facilities in Limenostomo on Lake Majatra.

Some of the monies are also earmarked for injection into major health and social care projects with Zardugal now on the cusp of offering a free at the point of delivery nationalised health service to its citizens.

Mr Temlkido told members of the National Assembly: "This is a momentous day for our country. Some have said we are brave - foolhardy even - to push ahead with a unilateral plan for nuclear disarmament. I say we are pioneers for peace. We have set an example for other progressive nations to follow and hope world leaders sit up and see a peaceful and safer future can be achieved."

He added: "The many billions of Zards we will save will be put to good use straight away. Our economy, our conventional armed forces, our health and social welfare infrastructure will all benefit along with many more sectors.

"I for one will sleep better knowing that this money is being spent on helping our people rather than in creating more weapons of mass destruction to be stockpiled."
“I venture to suggest that patriotism is not a short and frenzied outburst of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.”
