Z.E.I. Hosts Fifth Annual T.T.S.
19th June 2828

On June 17 and 18, the fifth annual Think Tank Symposium, one of ZEI's flagship events, convened this year in Kostandian Bay, Unkassa. Working with the support of the Zardic Colonial Commission, the Think Tank Symposium brings together over 40 leading experts from all sides of Terra to discuss issues of mutual concern.

This year, the symposium assembled panel discussions on the future of Zardugal's Federated Domains in Dovani, Squibble and Vascania, Zardic power and behavior in both regional and international relations, the future of Hanzen, and Pan-Terran strategies for global stability and security. Panel discussions were lead by Gordon Balfour, Director-General of Zardugal; H. L. Kostandian, former Director-General and Chief Advisor to the Axis; Edward Rawlins II, Zardic Institution of Policy Review; Antony Kostandian, Zardic Director of State; Julia Thamion, former Minister of Finance and current Zardic Trade Ambassador; General Aldric Laurence, Chairman of the Zardic Joint Chiefs of Staff; Tabitha Gordon, The Belgae Institution; and Madrick Keegan, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Each of these panelists have submitted a written work on their area of expertise, available for download on the Z.W.R. website.

Minister of Defense General Laurence spoke on the topic of continued international cooperation with Axis member states and released a critical status report regarding the current status of the Zardic Armed Forces. These exercises in his view demonstrated a powerful message to Terra as well as having provided the top brass of the Z.A.F. with an ability to study the strengths and weakness of integrated forces. The future of Terra and of Zardugal's expansive military in General Laurence view was firmly rooted in, 'a highly mobile and responsive permanent international integrated coalition of forces.' As well the Minister of Defense spoke briefly on the progress of operations in Vascania, Squibble and Dovani.

Joining General Laurence on the panel was Edward Rawlins II whom many speculate is to be H. L. Kostandian's successor to the post of Chairman within the F.R.P. as well as involvement in the cabinet on the question of Zardic territorial issues. Mr. Rawlins emphasized the points made by General Laurence and emphasized the new reality in Majatra in light of the rapid expansion of Axis member states. 'I assure everyone, my father whom did not see a fellow Axis nation on Majatra for more than a few years would be bewildered at the fact that now six independent nations on the continent are Axis member states.'

Image

On the rather contentious issues revolving around the Federation's territorial gains across Terra. A consensus seems to have been formed on the legal rights of the peoples of in Federated Vascania, Dovani and Squibble. For several years the government has been gridlocked on this question. Dozens of committees and court cases have also caused an enormous strain on the Ministry of Justice; an issue effecting both the Ministries of Justice and Finance.

Foreign Affairs Minister Madrick Keegan outlined a plan that would include a series of advisory committees from as many of the Dovani nations as possible. Citing the unique situation the Federation is in, it would be wise to consult with the governments who have the most experience in dealing with such issues. Up and until now the policy employed by the Federation has been to stonewall any attempts to come to any sort of formal terms with the Dovani Governments; a policy Mr. Keegan stated as having been, 'at best criminal and at worse stupidity.'

The issue of formalizing Zardic relations on Dovani with the Dovani Governments did not directly come up in any prepared remarks. However, on condition of anonymity a senior government official stated there was 'more than a slight' disagreement over the panels discussion on Dovani normalization coming from former Director-General H. L. Kostandian. Our source stated, "H.L. and Keegan have never seen eye to eye, I knew his appointment to the Foreign Ministry would infuriate H.L. but, to see him directly challenge him at the panel was quite a sight." Our source went onto say Director-General Balfour was still in good relations with Mr. Kostandian as he has yet to come out and clearly state his view on the issue.

Image
Foreign Minister Keegan Slamming Past Zardic Policies

On the second day of the event Julia Thamion spoke early in the day on Zardugal's economic future. Mrs. Thamion is widely considered the foremost Zardic economist and being the grand-daughter of likely the most well known Zardic economist in history, A. H. Thamion. As Minister of Finance she oversaw the management of a dramatic recession and was relentless at overhauling the financial and regulatory agencies in the government facilitating a dramatic turn around. Despite such an untarnished record many are now questioning her judgment.

During Mrs. Thamion's speech she focused her time to deriding the recent ratification of the Majatran Free Trade Agreement, a treaty heavily lobbied for by officials in Badara. Coming from a lifelong member of the Federal Republicans this was more than a surprise. Mrs. Thamion took issue with the number of nations who have thus far ratified the treaty as well stating, 'this near continental wave of free trade in the present treaty should be called what it is; a direct assault to our national sovereignty. Free trade is paramount, however free trade imposed without the ability to impose tariffs if such a need arises. The treaty in its present form is mentally bankrupt and will surely see us financially bankrupt.' The current Ministry of Finance has released statements distancing the Ministry from the comments made by Mrs. Thamion.

Ending the symposium was Director-General Balfour. The panel was untitled and for reasons that now seem quite obvious. D.G. Balfour spoke on a wide-array of issues in his prepared remarks and took questions for several hours in what some are calling an impromptu cabinet meeting. Balfour devoted a healthy portion of his time discussing mostly international affairs and alliances and the importance thereof. Domestic questions while not the predominate focus of the speech was heavily hit upon during the panelists questions with the audience.

Director-General Balfour spoke candidly for the first time on record and in a public venue on the issue that drew controversy the day before; the issue of normalized relations with Dovani Governments. Often Mr. Balfour specifically mentioned current standing relations with many nations and factions on Dovani. The Greater Hulstrian Trade Agreement, Balfour hailed as an economic boon for both nations and cited the significance of the Zilbershlag Group's incredible positive impact on various financial markets within Terra and specifically Zardugal. Balfour cited the management of the Zilbershlag Group and its significance in Hulstria as a vital issue for the Zardic states upon Dovani.

Image
Director-General Balfour Fielding Questions

On the issue of the recently unannounced trip to Hanzen, which Z.W.R. has previously reported, was a precursor to more formal relations with Hulstria specifically on the question of the Dovani Zardic States, clearly a signal that D.G. Balfour is breaking with the Kostandian wing of the party on the controversial issue of normalized relations for the Zardic Dovani States. D.G. Balfour went onto state that he had made his message clear with the Foreign Ministry and henceforth upon mandate the Foreign Ministry would be pursuing renewed relations with their counterparts in Dovani nations.

D.G. Balfour also took a moment to cite the re-election of Incumbent Governor-General Fuerstien of Hulstria and his remarks in respect to the electorates shift with the progressive social wing of parties In Hulstria and embracing the electorates clearly stated message as the hallmark of a true leader. D.G. Balfour also stated he was more than prepared to meet with his counterpart in Hulstria and other Dovani nations to discuss issues of mutual concern.

Towards the end of D.G. Balfour's speech domestic issues came interwoven into his previous remarks about the significance of greater diplomatic and economic relations with all of Terra and perhaps most vitally friends of the Zardic Federation. Many old so called friends and allies of the Federation were some of the same usual suspects; Luthori, Keymon, New Yishalem, Hulstria, Vanuku, Egelion and others. Some newer names though also drew attention, ranging from Rutania, Jakania, Kirlawa and Lourenne.

Black Leopard Security Expands in Keymon
by: Skip Purell

New Headquarters of "BLS WEST" in Keymon City, Keymon

KEYMON CITY,Keymon (ZWR)--February 2831-- Today Black Leopard Security announced its further integration into The Kingdom of Keymon. The move comes as a surprise to very few, it is no secret that The Kingdom and The Federation have had an excellent working relationship since last century. With BLS already an established entity in Keymon through long standing agreements the opening of a new headquarters in the capital of the small island kingdom was natural. This is rumored to be the first move in a series of events that will lead to a strengthening of the relationship between The United Alliance in The Federation and Family Urrutius of Keymon, though when ZWR sent requests from comments on this story neither political entity could "confirm nor deny" this statement.

BLS West will be headed up by relative unknown Yakav Sorin, a man from The Federations colonies in Dovani, he has worked for BLS for at least a decade, though this will undoubtedly by his biggest responsibility yet. It is unknown exactly what role BLS West will play in Keymon, besides what they already do which is outlined in The Naval Agreements between the Federation and The Kingdom, but what is known is that BLS will support The Family Urrutius.

Long time BLS CEO Dr.Jason Foxx is expected to visit Keymon very soon and meet with those in The Family Urrutius as their guest.

Director-General to Meet Governor-General of The Hulstrian Crownlands

Image
Governor-General of the Greater Hulstrian Crownlands, Charles Fuerstien

The Foreign Ministry announced earlier today that Director-General Balfour will be meeting with Governor-General of Greater Hulstria, Charles Fuerstien. The Foreign Ministry stated this was from continued backchannel communications between the two nations. The Foreign Ministry mentioned the latest editions of The Greater Hulstrian Chronicle and the comments expressed by Governor-General Fuerstien. It was said the issue of Dovani Federated States, Dovani Normalization and general economic and diplomatic talks.

Many pundits have publicly mocked the Director-General Balfour after the Z.E.I. Symposium where Mr. Balfour spoke of normalized relations with Dovani governments. Many dismissed his call to action as mere politics as usual albeit in an eccentric style for the Federal-Republicans. Though with the announcement from the Foreign Ministry many are eating their words now that Director-General Balfour is reversing decades of Zardic policy in respect to Dovani.

Jayden Eshalem, respected professor at the prestigious Zardic Imperial University, went on the record in light of the confirmation of the meeting. "When I first heard Balfour was actually interested in meeting with his counterparts in Dovani, it's fair to say I was more than skeptical. Now even seeing the news I'm still quite surprised by this and quite happy that Balfour isn't taking barking orders from (Former Director-General) Kostandian. I really hope Balfour isn't doing this for political gain-the people of Dovani need fair and equitable treatment under internationally sanctioned laws and hopefully I will live to see that day."

Some voices within the Federal Republicans were more than divided on the news. Many backbenchers in the Directorate stormed out of session upon hearing the release by the Foreign Ministry. Witnesses say this seemed too coordinated to not be staged. This break in policy can't be stated enough as to how much of a core issue this has become for the political establishment within Belgae. One member of the Directorate and member of the F.R.P. commented on condition of anonymity that, 'The D.G. is clearly a man of incredible foresight, let us just hope that the ladies and gentlemen who make up the F.R.P. are prepared to follow out this mission.'

Regional news affiliate out of Vesper, Saqueya was present at the grand opening of the newest Zardic chapter of the Terran Urban League, and managed to get an interview with Director-General Balfour after he spoke at the opening of the newest chapter.

Image
Teresa Gaffin of Channel M News Interviewing D.G. Balfour

Director-General Balfour was questioned on whether or not he thought any substantial progress would come out of this initial meeting and was decidedly upbeat in his response. D.G. Balfour cited several cases where he felt direct cooperation with all Dovani governments and particularly Hulstria was something he was dedicated to seeing through despite any rancor coming from within his own party. Taking a pre-emptive shot at members of the Directorate Balfour also challenged reporter Teresa Gaffin to seek out the local Director for Vesper and ask him if he could name the Federated States in Dovani.

Further taking a pre-emptive strike Director-General Balfour spoke candidly about his decision which by all accounts has former D.G. Kostandian IV at arms with his long time associate. Balfour stated, '…sometimes things are either right or wrong. I rarely have many occasions where the decision is so clearly and unquestionably right as it is with my determination to work on a settlement plan for our Dovani states. I respect my friends difference of opinion, his heart is in the right place on this but, he and I merely have a different view of the situation.'

Director-General Balfour went onto say this meeting shouldn't be over analyzed by the press. 'Governor-General Fuerstien has been kind enough to extend his hand to the Zardic people. The citizens of mainland Zardugal are detached from the realities on the ground in Federated Dovani. The Hulstrians have a tremendous amount of experience in these matters and it would be simply foolish to not work with them on a wide array of very important issues; issues they've confronted and beaten brilliantly in the past.'

Director-General Balfour didn't comment on whether or not any of his cabinet members, or the recently appointed Director of State Percival Maize, would be going to Kien with him to meet with the Governor-General of the Hulstrian Crownlands. Nor has any specific date been set, D.G. Balfour did say the travel arrangements had been confirmed and agreed upon, but he didn't wish to disclose the information yet out of diplomatic protocol.

United Alliance Celebrates Election Gains

Image

Belgae,Zardugal-- December 2833 The United Alliance and its supporters took to the streets today as they news of their election victory rapidly spread across the Federation. The UA garnered exactly 84,547,589 votes, nearly 75% of the voter turnout. With these results they gained 151 seats in the Directorate, bringing their total to 449 seats. This gives them the ability to pass (or fail) any bill that they see fit. For the time being all new legislation must pass through the United Alliance and its Directors.

United Alliance Spokesperson Natasha Richardson released a statement soon after the official results were in :

Image

The United Alliance figured we would do well in this election. We were thoroughly dissatisfied with the past election results and we knew we should have done better, but lackluster preparation and performance lead to those results. This time around we were determined to win back the people of The Federation, and restore their confidence in us. If the election results are any indicator than we have done exactly that. As always though we strive for improvement of everything we do, and we hope to do even better in the next elections!

So, with The United Alliance essentially having the Directorate as their playground we can only wait and see how they will use this power. Will they sit on their hands and hunker down, or will they be proactive and use their power to get through bills that strengthen and extend their agenda? Only time will tell, but one things is for certain, The Federation and its people are watching.

Communication Breakdown

Belgae,Zardugal - August 2847

Citizens of the Federation of Zardugal have surely felt slightly uneasy with all the various reports coming in from all the various news outlets across Terra on the coverage of apparent hostile actions taken by Indrala and others. Supposedly action against Luthorian controlled territories upon Dovani has taken place while the regime in Indrala promises to march towards Hanzen, an area they seem to think is still autonomous or at the least not under the control of the Zardic Federation. These calls from the corrupted regime of Indrala have received minor support from the tiny archipelago nation of Selucia, the Prime Minister of Lodamun has also voiced his support of the Indralan rhetoric.

The Government of Indrala which is currently lead by the radical Nyu-Gekokujō has not minced words if one is to believe the reporting coming out of Indrala. The upstart communists have leveled accusations against the most odd of nations initially; Hulstria, Aloria and Zardugal as imperialists who needed combated. This has seemed to change assuredly given the continued reports of hostilities in Luthorian controlled Dovani; just North of the Zardic Federated States of Hanzen, Libanthem, Danesia, Ibea, Engion, Agene, Ugabium and Malernea. Our analysts have read all media reports about the on-going events however, it has been cautioned that most of what is being reported is complete and utter fabrications.

Image
Z.A.F. 12th Battle Fleet Departs Keymon; Analysts Suggest Fleet is Headed towards Majatra.

Z.W.R. contacted Foreign Minister Edward Rawlins II to seek further clarifications and see if the Federation had any formal comments to make. F.M. Rawlins was quick to point out that despite the reports of hostility in Luthorian controlled areas, the legislatures of Indrala and Luthori have made no declaration of war until well after reports of hostilities had broken. "With that in mind, it would be simply impossible for any of these reports to be true. It is a sad state of affairs when the media doesn't know the very basic procedures a government must undertake in order to go to war. I fear much of what is out there right now is nothing but a lot of poetry and no prose…" When asked if Zardugal had received any word from Indrala's officials and FM Rawlins confirmed that not a single member of the government of Indrala has contacted the Federation, "..and until they do, they can keep complaining about what ever issues they may think they have. The Zardic people are willing to sit down and talk with what is clearly a group of unstable leaders in order to clear the lines of communication and establish better relations."

When prompted to clarify on the issue of control of Hanzen, the Foreign Minister pointed to the recent comments made by the Foreign Ministry of Hulstria. "Minister Labsburg was quite right in his remarks about the current situation and really, we have nothing to add to what has been said. The Zardic Government is willing to talk to the factions within Indrala when they have learned how to conduct themselves in a proper diplomatic fashion." F.M. Rawlins continued, "If they want a war, your guess is as good as mine I'm afraid, as to why this is. Surely someone of a certain mental clarity resides within Indrala and has pointed out how borderline criminal their own government is acting given they have thus far only harmed themselves by continuing to isolate themselves from mainstream diplomatic circles. My office still awaits for any word from the Indralan Government."

Image
Foreign Minister Edward Rawlins II

"As the times find us though, I fear Indrala may be running head-long into a noose. Director-General Keegan is not at all pleased with their diplomatic failures and perhaps more significantly failures on behalf of their own people. If the intention of the communist forces in Indrala is to reclaim Hanzen, how could we morally allow this given their record of human-rights violations and abuses and the continued bellicose rhetoric? The Hanzen people have been ignored and walked upon for far too long and we will not allow it to happen again needlessly. If this is what Nyu-Gekokujō calls Imperialism, standing up for the rights of the people of Hanzen so they may be able to establish themselves as a free and independent peoples well, I suppose we're guilty of crimes much less grievous than those committed Nyu-Gekokujō."

This confusion of reporting from national papers has not made this situation any more digestible to Zardic officials, a number of whom refused to comment for this article citing a risk in continuing to confuse all of Terra. Deputy-Director General Antony Kostandian, not particularly known for making public remarks, invited Z.W.R's staff to the Sel'Rakrya headquarters where we were allowed to see classified materials relating to the issues growing upon Dovani. We were not permitted to take copies, photographs or any of the sort. Though what is clear is the Zardic Government is not nearly as ill-prepared for a would-be attack by Indrala should such an absurd thing come to pass.

Image
Meeting with Senior Intelligence Officials in the Sel'Rakrya Offices

At the Sel'Rakrya's headquarters we were also greeted by the Minister of Defense Harrison Rossman who was quick to point out all the amazing work that has been performed on the Zardic Federal States of Dovani since their acquisition. "The people of Zardugal have worked too damn hard to re-build the neglected civil infrastructure of Hanzen since we assumed control of the area. I'll be damned if they waltz into Hanzen and destroy all the work that has been done by the governments of Hulstria, Luthori and Zardugal."

Minister of Defense Rossman is quite right in his reporting of the aggressive funds that have been poured into the 9 Zardic States upon Dovani. Former Director-General Balfour along with F.M. Rawlins had been working closely with the former Governor-General of Hulstria and Luthorian counterparts for a codified set of laws, regulations and defense agreements for greater Dovani. This international tension cannot be solely focused on a cherry-picked group of nations, Mr. Rossman pointed out, as the Dovanians for Dovani organization and factions would never standby and allow the lunatic fringes of the Indrala regime and cronies get a sliver of control on Dovani without full consent and proper legal treaties.

Deputy Director-General Kostandian went on the record at the meeting as well, "Director-General Keegan recalled most of the civil engineers and accordingly the War Ministry has dispatched combat engineers who have made necessary the preparations for an invasion of Hanzen. Per the War Ministries recommendations as well E.O. 1005 which was issued carried with it an open ended declaration of war, granting the Director-General the power to deploy more than the War Powers Act would have enabled him. Accordingly actions have been taken, though I am not at liberty to discuss this at the present. This has come from the recommendations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and War Ministry. It would be folly for Indrala to keep up their threats given they've selected nations within the Axis and International Monarchist League to carry out their repulsive expansionist desires. Ignoring standing alliances, it's clear from the reports you all have seen today that any such attempt would be an exercise in the wholesale slaughter of the Indralan military, and any of her allies. This is not something we wish to do, as ultimately it would serve no point in seeing any satisfactory resolutions to the grievances of Indrala; grievances they've yet to inform the government of Zardugal about in any formal or informal way."

Image
Deputy Director-General Antony Kostandian, former D.G. Kostandian IV's Brother

Zardic World Report was unable to contact Director-General Keegan for any comments about the looming potential crisis. He was unavailable for comment, his office cited he was not in the nation at the moment and was abroad speaking to allies. When asked whom and where the Director-General had spoken to and had gone, the spokesman for the Director-General refused to comment citing the answers as classified and highly sensitive information.

Ministers accused of slander, arrest ordered by The Director-General

Belgae,Zardugal - May 2893

Following the press release by the Foreign Ministry, which according to the legal experts were heavily filled with slander, an executive order was issued for the arrest of Minister of Defence Kurt Hanzlik, Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Rawlins II and all those who are suspected to be involved with the crime. As it is unknown if the private security companies contracted to act as police force respect the law, men from the Director-Generals own security forces are ordered to arrest Mr. Hanzlik and Mr. Rawlins and bring them to face justice.

Image
Director-General of Zardugal Itagaki Chôshichirô Tadasue refused to comment.

The Zardic World Report has a copy of the press release, and we will publish it for all the world to see:

:Press Release from the Office of the Foreign Ministry:

Citizens of Zardugal, many of you no doubt have been alarmed by the recent electoral shifts within the Directorate especially in respect to the vile coalition of parties bent on nihilistic policies and to sale Zardugal down the river. Be at ease however, for the dark clouds will part and soon. The Foreign Ministry in conjunction with the current cabinent, military, Black Leopard Security, D.M.F. and the Axis Alliance has spear-headed the removal of various diplomatic treaties. This move brought on by the current administration is nothing short of inept and naive and shows a fatal flaw in even the most basic understandings of foreign policy and power.

In respect to any and all treaties relating to the Zardic colonies on Squibble, Namviet, Vascania, Dovani and other locales-they remain as firm as ever. The transfers were legal and each corresponding government stands united behind the original treaties signed by past Director-Generals. The Foreign Ministry as well has reached out to our allies which have been isolated by the current Director-General's policies. Luthori, Vanuku, Keymon, Hulstria, Deltaria, Cobura, Rutania and others are all aware of the current situation in the Federation and support the Zardic Coalition as maintained by the Sel'Rakrya.

Whatever lies in wait for our nation under the tenure of the transplanted Director-General Tadasue, the brave citizens of Zardugal must remember his coalitions time will pass and they will be punished for the treason committed against the Federation. As it stands, the Zardic Coalition will not stand by the current Director-General. The Deputy-Director General, all Ministries and our nations security forces have sworn to uphold the rule of law as they've known it under native Zardic citizens; not the putrid Gao-Showa's and Asli's.

Some experts believe more arrest orders may follow, as Director-General has not yet broken any written laws, and any attempts to remove him from power with force can under the current legislature be seen as a coup and violation of the laws of the Federation.

Gao-Showa, Asli and other immigrants protest against the cabinet in all of the largest cities

"This is an outrage! We are nationals of Zardugal, we came here, or our parents came here, or their parents came here and claimed nationality, as it is stated in the Zardic Law! There has been no limits for immigration in ages and now they say we are not Zardugali? They take us here to do the crap work they think they are too precious to do and when we want our share of the power we deserve by law, they turn on us like the racists and fascist they are", claimed known Gao-Showa writer and activist Shiba Kanesada during a speech in one of the protests held in Belgae. The Director-General and GSPP have asked that the protestors would remain calm, and the Black Leopard Security has been able to cease all violent outbrusts in Zardugal. However, in Zardugal's East Caltropic Territories, heavily populated by Gao-Showa aborginals, several violent riots have occured and people have been killed.

Image
Protestors in the streets of Belgae.

Several immigration experts have been warning the nation of rising tensions for some time, but they have been ignored. Now the too loose immigration policy and requirements for nationality have led to this, and acquiring the Gao-Showa populated colonies has risen the number of Gao-Showa and other immigrants in Zardugal. "They have been silent all this time, doing their low-paid works for us, and now they feel they deserve a share of the power. That is the only thing that can explain the sudden rise of Asli Immigration Party and Gao-Showa Populist Party", said expert Janos Harrelson. "And on international scale things have not been going well for Gao-Showa in Sekowo or Hulstria, which ofcourse adds to the flames here back home."
Be on your OLD GUARD, stand firm in the faith!

Zardic Federation Unites to Clean House!

Belgae,Zardugal - August 2893

Image
The Zardic Coalition

In what the experts on the side of the Gao and Asli immigrant parties may have thought, their political fortunes were stopped dead in their tracks late yesterday evening as the polls closed on a snap general election. Voter turnout was at an all time high and many analysts have predicted this was due to the Federal Republicans, National Modernists and United Alliance's party machines going into overdrive to get out the vote.

Senior political correspondent David Halprin weighed in on the events, "It isn't very surprising to see that Director-General Tadasue only lasted a few months. The Zardic people for centuries have counted on the Federal Republicans and the Zardic Coalition to keep the Federation's ship of state moving along. In those times, we've seen unprecedented growth both domestically and internationally. Average wages have been on the rise, more small business have opened under free-market and low-tax policies and the F.R.P. in recent decades has even loosened laws on civil liberties. The thought that these reforms would be overturned so quickly and without thought by the Gao-Showa and Asli was clearly enough to remind the citizens of the Federation why it is the Federal Republicans had their role at the helm of government."

Many other commentators also shared a common theme on the results of the election. The executive orders issued under Director-General Tadasue were blood orders-something no Director-General has ever done. As well issuing out arrest warrants for the Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs was a double mistake given Mr. Rawlins and General Hanzlik standing domestically and internationally. Before the ink on the executive orders had been able to dry several nations spoke out against the former Gao, Tadasue, in pursuing his agenda of malice upon his political foes.

When the Gao-Showan's and Asli minorities organized and united into political forces; their first act upon seizing enough votes was to dismantle nearly all international treaties and institutes. Leading many observers to wonder what, truly, the political agenda behind these newly arrived parties was. Members of both the press and government have expressed bewilderment as such naïve political moves. The Deputy-Director General, Foreign Minister and Minister for Colonial Affairs have been working nearly non-stop since the proposals made the Directorate floor to urge caution among the Federations allies during these turbulent times.

After the election results were in senior members of the Federal Republicans, United Alliance and National Modernist Party appeared together for a joint press conference on the steps of the Sel'Rakrya Headquarters. Drew Manningham, Chairman of the United Alliance, was immediately sworn in as the Deputy-Director General . Also present was Foreign Minister Rawlins, Defense Minister Hanzlik and Minister of Justice Matthew Scalia. Director-General Muller was not present.

Image
Deputy Director-General Manningham

Deputy D.G. Manningham being the most senior member of government present among the parties took several questions and delivered a small speech on the nature of things. "The Actions taken by the Gao-Showans show that they are not ready to lead. Instead of trying to improve their situation and the situation of the Federation as a whole they decided to take the petty and childish road and attempted to turn Zardugal into an isolationist state and nearly ruin century's worth of work that the Zardic Coalition has done to improve the position of the Federation. Luckily the voters were able to see above and beyond this and realize that the mistakes made by the Gaos and Asli's had to be corrected and they returned those who know how to rule and who know what it takes back into the place where they belong."

The newly elected Director-General, Richard Muller, an outlier for certain within the political arenas. Though members of the intelligence community and those in the Ministry of Internal Affairs that were questioned all seemed to be keenly aware of Mr. Muller's place in Zardic politics despite having the name recognition of a Kostandian, Rothchild or Rawlins. D.G. Muller began his career by joining the Zardic Air Force and quickly rose to the rank of Captain; this is officially all that is known as well that his Air Force commission is still active. Many have speculated Mr. Muller has been running Sel'Rakrya since the death of H. L. Kostandian IV though, these are only rumors.

A statement was released on behalf of Director-General Muller shortly after the press conference of the Zardic Coalition. Within the release, it's clear the blood-orders issued by the incumbent government are not being seen favorably. The F.R.P. has generally always been even-keeled even with opposition parties. However what is clear is due to the magnitude of the blood-orders issued out on behalf of former Director-General Tadasue-it doesn't appear as if D.G. Muller is going to take these offenses lightly, in one passage the actions are referred to as treason.

Several key points from the dossier outline the immediate plans for formal inquiries into the criminal activities of the Gao-Showan and Asli parties, a directive has been issued to the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs already; pending an executive order nothing is stopping Director-General Muller from prosecuting the men and women responsible for the blood-orders against his own friends, family and colleagues. Another small line in the release that seemed out of place with the other directives was for a formal committee to organized and report on the current status of all Asli and Gao immigrants. With figures showing these ethnic groups never existed in Zardugal prior to the arrival of their two respective transplanted political dynasties-investigations are on-going to ascertain the means in which apparently so many Gao's and Asli arrived in Zardugal without the Foreign Ministry being aware of it.

Foreign Minister Rawlins II

Later in the evening Z.W.R. contacted the Foreign Ministry and requested to speak with Minister Rawlins II; we conducted a brief interview over the phones. "I do apologize that I was not able to meet with you in person but, under the current conditions it's for the best I stay within the confines of the Foreign Ministry-we've much work to be done to set things right," Minister Rawlins began with. When asked about how he felt about the execution order attempted to be signed by former Director-General Tadasue the Foreign Minister scoffed. "It just goes to show you how fearful they are of the Zardic Coalition. These parties are not native to Zardugal and any claims to the otherwise is a flat-lie. The Gao's an Asli's would do themselves justice and bring themselves much needed respect if they were to realize the man they issued an arrest warrant on is the same man who ensured their freedoms upon Dovani by establishing in conjunction with other Dovani nations parameters for local governance by Dovani's for Dovanians and ensuring the economic success of our colonial domains was a paramount issue. The thanks I get is an arrest warrant. I assure you, such things will not be easily forgotten."

Stay tuned for future reports from Zardic World Report. . .

Exclusive Interview with Deputy Director General Manningham

Image

Drew Manningham, fresh of his appointment as Deputy Director General of The Federation of Zardugal, granted The Zardic World Report an exclusive interview from his Central Belgae office. The mood of United Alliance office was buzzing with interns and secretaries literally running through the hallways with documents in hand and cell phones ringing off the hook. Though the tone was decidedly different in Manningham’s office where we observed a calm and collected Manningham seemingly indifferent and relaxed behind his large L shaped Hulstarian Mahogany Desk. Not a thing seemed out of place, papers in perfect stacks and order. The DDG offered me a drink (which I politely declined) and we began the interview.

Deputy Director General, this has been an uncharacteristically unstable time in Zardugal, but it seems as if things are returning to normal, why do you believe that is?

Plain and simple, the people of The Federation. I don’t think I would be speaking incorrectly if I were to say that our people have been a little spoiled under the leadership of The Zardic Coalition in the past. People become antsy and want “change”, so they had a momentary lapse in judgment and they elected the GSPP candidate. What did they get out of this though? No real change or even concern for them. Upon assuming the role of Director General the first things done were to issue arrest orders for the Minister of Defense and Former Director General. The people stood and shouted “NO!!” and were swift to slap the immature and inexperienced hand of the GSPP and remind them that in Zardugal we would not stand for such things and in snap early elections the Director Generalship was quickly returned to the Federal Republicans, who along with the help of The UA and NMP has guided the Federation for centuries and constantly strived to improve the lives of the Federations citizenry.

What do you make of the international response to the recent events in The Federation?

I am very pleased with the international response, our allies in Luthori and Rutania along with many others offered support for the people and The Zardic Coalition both publicly and through backchannels in order to assure that the situation was resolved quickly, and for this I would like to personally thank them and invite them to Zardugal at their earliest convience. Top Axis Brass was able to confer with each other as well which helped to contain the situation and keep anyone from over reacting.

In a statement from President Lincoln of Lodamun he advised that the Axis should not have gotten involved in Zardugal.

The Axis and Zardugal have been together in a prosperous relationship for as long as I can I remember. For them not to be concerned about and help any situation of a member or former member nation is ridiculous. The Axis is all about helping out its member states and ensuring their prosperity. As for the statements out of Lodamun they really did not affect anything domestically or even in The Axis. We all know Lodamun and especially the Liberal Party is heavily influence by NATO, and because of that of course they would not want the Axis to get involved in Zardugal and risk becoming weaker, but as I have said that would have been unthinkable. Membership in The Axis is all about helping your brothers to ensure their prosperity, stability and success. Something NATO has not done too well. Hell the earliest current ratification of the NATO treaty is only 40 years old! While the Axis has been consistently around for over 300 years!

What is next for the Zardic Coalition?

Our primary concern right now is to reverse the actions of the GSPP and to ensure that they never happen again. The acts undertaken by the Gaos and Asli’s will not be forgotten. That is why a new bill will be sent to floor to address these concerns. We are also working with the FRP and NMP to put at ease our allies that we have the situation firmly under control.
[[ A secretary interrupts and hands a paper to manningham, who signs it and then tells us the interview is over]]

Heavy words from the Deputy Director General, we look forward to seeing the latest developments out of UA Headquarters. This has been James Gibson for the Zardic World Report.

Criminal Investigations Against Itagaki Chôshichirô Tadasue

Image
Minister of Justice Joseph Dorsey

May 2899, Belgae-- Today The National Directorate of Zardugal authorized The Ministry of Justice to begin criminal investigations into the actions of former Director-General Itagaki Chôshichirô Tadasue with a vote of 515-85. The while details of the exact charges that will be place, if any, are still unclear the are rumored to be abuse of executive authority, illegal use of the military, unlawful writs of arrest, sedition, treason and crimes against the Federation.

The implications of these findings will be monumental, If Itagaki Chôshichirô Tadasue is found guilty of Sedition or treason he could very well be put to death under the current laws of The Federation. Justice Minister Joseph Dorsey and his staff are going about collecting evidence and interviewing pertinent individuals and will compile a report to be presented first to the Director General and then to be announced publicly.

These events will shape the way The Federation views the law in many ways. It would be the first time in modern history that a former Director-General could be put to death for his actions while in office. The ZWR will be following the events very closely and will update you as soon as latest developments come out of the Justice Ministry.

Zardic Foreign Policy Review

November 2913, Belgae

The Directorate of Zardugal has been active as ever in recent weeks on a range of issues. The electorate has been charged by the newly arrived political faction the Liberal Party of Zardugal which saw sweeping gains in recent elections that pitted United Alliance and the Liberal Party against one another. In the latest results United Alliance managed to squeeze ahead in the polls while the Liberal Party remained at an honorable second in showing in legislative gain in the Directorate. Up and until the recent election the Liberal Party has been supportive of the Federalists of Karantia, the Gao separatist party but, as of the last elections the Liberal Party had thrown it's lot in with the Zardic Coalition and endorsed the Federal Republicans and seen to another full term for Director-General Baelin Albrecht.

Political analysts have been pleased with the new air of cooperation and initiative being displayed by many of the parties in Zardugal. For the first time in many years the Directorate actually seems like a legislative assembly and not just a tourist destination. The Zardic Coalition after the latest elections under the guidance of D.G. Baelin Albrecht called for the formation of a full cabinet, the first in decades. In doing so all ministries have been re-shuffled and Deputy Ministers appointed, including Deputy Director General Robert Bolton of the Liberal Party; the first Deputy D.G. from a party other than the F.R.P. and United Alliance. A clear sign that the politics of the Federation are changing.

In recent legislative news, the Directorate has seen to the passing of a comprehensive diplomatic and economic agreement with the United Badaran Emirates. It is reported this treaty had been in the works for several months and the Foreign Ministry considered it to be a high priority issue. Foreign Minister Uldritch went on the record by calling the passing of the treaty by both U.B.E. and the Federation as, 'a major diplomatic coup for both of our esteemed nations.'

In conjunction with the ratification of the Act of Comity between U.B.E. and Zardugal the Directorate approved a highly controversial bill recognizing Selucia as a Jesuit State. In speeches given by both the Foreign Minister and Armin Koert, Minister of Education and Culture from the United Alliance it was clear neither party viewed this treaty with much favor however, out of so called loyalties with Selucia as a nation allied formally with the Federation the measure was put before the Directorate for consideration and looks set to pass.

The Zardic Directorate also has become the first nation to support and ratify the Dranian Ecotourism Initiative. The Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism hailed the treaty as, 'truly unique, one of a kind.' The treaty passed with an overwhelming majority. This comes on the heels of renewed relations with Drania with its admittance into the Axis Alliance of Terra similarly with respect to the consideration and ultimate passage of the treaty recognizing Selucia as a Jesuit State. In an early act of the last Directorate the Foreign Ministry re-proposed the Treaty of Recognition of the Grand Duchy of Talmorschland which had been previously wiped from the diplomatic agreements from the Gao and Asli anarchist movements.

The Foreign Ministry is reportedly in active talks currently with Jelbania and Cobura on issuing relating to the Central Majatran relations. Reports thus far have indicated possible bilateral talks on the issue of high-speed transit across each nation within C.M.S.O. to pre-empt movements elsewhere in Majatra coming off the heels of the O.M.S. Conference. In an official release from the Foreign Ministry several weeks ago, it was confirmed that the Zardic Government have been in active talks with the Government of Lourenne for unknown reasons. This has received much regional coverage in the Zardic Protectorates of Libanthum, Hanzen, Danesia and Engion.
