Mozby Appointed Director of the ZNSO

A blast from Zardugal's past has come to the forefront as the Great Granddaughter of former President Lindsey Mozby, Saria Mozby, has been appointed by the President Petkido has the new Director of the Zardic National Security Organization, Zardugal's top umbrella organization for security and intelligence. Mozby was appointed on the recommendation of ZNLP Chairman Adrian Calistro during a conversation following last year's election between Calistro and President Petkido.

According to a spokesperson for the President:

Mr. Calistro spoke at great length over cabinet positions and the direction they'd like to work together to our Zardugal in considering the very close race that had just concluded. The one name that kept coming up with was Saria Mozby. After a lengthy talk directly with her the President agrees with Mr. Calistro that no one else was better qualified for the position.

Image

Saria Mozby's security and intelligence credentials add significant cred to her family's pedigree. She served as a member of the Special Affairs Unit of the FIA before being loaned to the Zardic Counter Terrorism Centre where she served a stint as Chief of its elite Strategic & Tactical Assault and Reconnaissance Team. After her tenure as Chief of the STARs she was returned to the FIA where she climbed steadily through the ranks, finally settling at the position as Deputy Director of Central Majaratan Affairs before she was tapped by the President to take up the top mantle in the country.

In her opening press conference Mozby already stated her initial goals would be reviewing current Zardic and Intelligence capabilities and ensuring that the Federation was at its top game, especially in the wake of the unholy alliance between the MRSF and Vanuku to Zardugal's North and east.

Saria Mozby is going to have a tough job ahead; strictly speaking many within the intelligence community internationally agree that the Director of the ZNSO is one the toughest outfits to head considering the sheer number of organizations they are exactly to lead. Many Directors crack before their initial 4 year term is up and to, almost to a T, no ZNSO Director since 4166 has lasted longer then a single 4 year term at the job; the last to exceed this was Bruder Calistro, who held the position for 21 years before his retirement, making him the longest serving in Zardic history.

Chairman of the Joint Defence Council Finishes Defence Review

Image

General Ptauro Saado, Chairman of the Joint Defence Council, and Zardugal's top General has announced that the half a decade long Defence Review had been finally concluded.

This has been a long time coming and my predecessors worked very hard on this file and I'm glad to say I was able to finish what they started. The Zardic Armed Forces will come out stronger them ever before as we move forward with our new structure and defence policies.

General Saado has already pledged to complete a 5 year modernization program to bring the Zardic Armed Forces back to up par with any Majaratan neighbor in terms of the quality of equipment starting first with the Army, before moving onto the Air Force and finally the Navy. General Saado noted that the Navy was actually the most modern branch of the Zardic Armed Forces thanks to the ZNLP Governments of the 4130s, 40s and 50s who invested billions of ZARs into purchasing new Aircraft Carriers, nuclear submarines and modernizing the Destroyer and Frigate surface fleet.

Image
The ZNS-Taylor Murphy, a Federation Aircraft Carrier finished in the 4160s.

The new Defence Policy is doubtlessly related to a renewed effort by the Zardic Armed Forces to show they are more then capable of standing up to both Vanuku and the MRSF who recently sign a NAP and MDP as a direct counter to the most recent alliance between Istalia and Zardugal.

VAC To Design New Fighter

At a press conference at their corporate headquarters, in Venetio, the Venetio Aeronautics Corporation has announced they have begun an ambitious new project to design a new Fighter design for the Zardic Air Force.

Being developed under the working name the XF-43, or EXperimental Fighter 43rd Century, Venetio stated that this was a test for them to reclaim their position as the top Fighter designer and manufacturer in Terra, something that had been surrendered decades ago.

Image
VAC President and CEO Tara Aprillo

This is an ambitious multi year possible multi decade aeronautics project to put VAC back on the top. The XF-43 will be far removed as the best Fighter Inceptor in the world and is being design to not have to be replaced for a long time when it's finished. We are proud to be working with our partners at the Zardic Federal Ministry of Defence and other international partners and stakeholders as they show interest.

An open call by VAC and the Zardic Air Force has been sent to allies and friends of Zardugal that wish to get in at the ground leave of the design phase of the XF-43. Nations and corporate entities that help share the costs have already been guaranteed licenses and ability to purchase and build their own national variants as soon as the final model has been finished.

The Zardic Air Force has announced already they will be replacing all Z-30s and Z-35s with the eventual goal of replacing the entire Fighter force of the ZAF with XF-43 while the Zardic Navy and Marine Corps have added their own orders for the eventual naval variants.

The phoenix flies again in the Zardic skies
Will it be gracefull or destructive?

After an early election, the Liberecana Unio, spearheaded by Maya Laršen, has gained a close victory and now she, and the re-elected, rather radically capitalist, president Maršo Petkido lead the nation to a new future. Which is full of hardships and difficulty.

Image
Maršo Petkido winning a very close election over his ZNLP counterpart.

First, this issue will comment on the Libertarian Manifesto, which is probably the most polarizing peace of legislation passed in Zardugalo since the beginning of the century. Supporters could not believe their eyes and celebrated euphorically the passage of this bill. It deregulated the markets and allowed almost full social freedoms. Consequentially, employers and young people greeted this bill with open arms. On the other hand, employees, especially older ones and socialists are sceptical and even frightened what it might do. The older, more conservative generation, speaks of complete abandonment of values, whilst in socialist circles, not without the tailwind provided by the socialist federation at the border, speak of complete capitulation to greed and capital.
The first response of the current government to these accusations was from Alfio Provo, the son of former, very popular, president Marco Provo, and Minister of Finance:
It is astounding how when people are provided all the liberties in the world, try to hide away from the opportunity and start shouting populist slogans instead of actually thinking, and getting out there and seizing this opportunity. It is now easier than ever to earn money,
start a business, finding love... you want to seize the means of production, then go out there and create something, the means of production are just waiting to be utilised, just don't forcefully steel them from someone who worked so hard to gain them. The free market will allocate Ressources most efficiently according to demand. People call us environmentalist, which is false, we just allow the market to adjust, and it adjusted naturally to greener fuels, which turn out to be efficient. We are staying true to our policies. To our libertarianism!

In the meantime, the Chief Minister, Maya Laršen, has provided us with the tax changes that are always a topic in Zardugalo. Under the slogan:
We don't need a new tax system, we need tax reform!
She claims to have found the solution to boost the economy, still have government spending and close loopholes. The new spending and taxation policies stay very close to that statement. The spending policy agrees with the party's policy of lack of wealth redistribution, as it
Only causes Inflation
. However it does provide for free schools, which are vital as Children are the future and are not capable of consent and therefore have to get the vest by default, which is education. It provides for Infrastructure adjustments as the government plans on expanding Zardic ports and military. The tax policy was simplified to 3 brackets, 1%; 15% and 35%; with no clear loopholes and only having tax exemptions on charitable donations. The drastic lowering of tax should give the economy a major boost in all sectors, but people are afraid of the growing divide between rich and poor, to which Maya Laršen has given the controversial statement:
Image
Work! If you are healthy, then we have provided you with everything to get out of poverty and into the middle and upper classes;
It is all up to you now.
This delegation of Responsibility to care for the nation has angered many on the left, but pleased many fiscally conservative members of zardic society, again it seems that the LU feeds of polarization.

In terms of Finance, the LU has issued their firm stance on the issue of what would the government do, in case of a crash of the Banking sector. The experiences of the financial crisis are still very highlighted in the memory, and therefore Maršo Petkido has stated, short and concise, yet frightening:
The banks are private instututions, if they can't handle their own affairs, no one can. Should they collapse, and I say this as a Warning:
The LU government will let the banks Fail! No bailout, no empathy for the corporation, nothing. We can deal with the aftermath, with all the unemployed, but keeping a dead patient alive is not in anyones, especially the tax payers', interest.

This came right in time for the passage of the Conservative Party initiated anti corruption act. Which was taken over by the LU and is a signal to everyone, that they act exclusively in the interest of the people, not Corporations. Communists say it is a cover up.

The LU has also adapted the Conservative government's military rearmament plans, to make Zardugalo a military powerhouse in Majatra and to adjust to the current unfriendly relations with our neighbours, namely the Socialist Federation and their Vanukan allies. Talks with the minority party, ZNLP, has resulted in the appointment of Saria Mozby as the new Director of the Zardic National Security Organization, to together combat the threats facing our beautiful nation.

Speaking of our Neighbors, due to the current not completely shut Borders between Zardugalo and Jelbania, an increased flow of migrants is coming our way, fleeing from the grasps of the Socialists, and not wanting to flee to Vanuku, who is a supporter of the Federation. This has led to border tensions between the nations, between which the relations were never good. We might remember how Zardugalo wanted to annex Rilmos to gain access to the Sea of Majatra. These events don't make any relationship warm. And now with the rise of the socialist super state, They have reached a new low.

There are also historic good news in terms of foreign policy. The Zardo-Istalian Alliance and common economic area has been established. After years of dialogue, the nations were ready to unite, not only in tge face of the socialist danger, but also due to common economic and social goals: To emerge as leaders of Majatra!
http://classic.particracy.net/viewtreat ... atyid=3736

Maršo Petkido immediately released a statement on this historic achievement:
This is a historic achivement of international diplomacy: putting under common management different political and economic sectors which will be administered by ad hoc bodies formed by representations of the various Ministries of the two nations.
The two national currencies of Istalia and Zardugal will therefore be tied by a fixed rate which will correspond to 1 LIS = 4 ZAR even if in reality they will be tied to a Monetary Unit of Account which will be called ZICU (Zardic Istalian Currency Unit) which will contribute to harmonize the operations between the two currencies, will be used to calculate the budgets of the Alliance's common organs, it will be a very important tool for dealing with the international market, avoiding shocks and ensuring greater security and stability and thus simplifying operations on financial markets.

Another major anouncement made by the new and radically Capitalist LU government, is the upcoming major expansion of ports all around Zardugalo. Using the Konstandian port as an example. All the other major port cities will receive an overhaul and an expansion similar to Konstandian size, to accommodate the increased Zardic navy and of course the massively increased trade between Istalia and Zardugalo.

Finally, the President, together with the Chief Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, have released a joint statement concerning Majatran foreign policy:
We fully recognise the independent and sovereign Federal Republic of Kalopia-Wantuni, as long as the federalization is peaceful, just and democratic. It should uphold these humanitarian values. We condemn the actions of our Northern neighbour Vanuku and see is as a direct threat to Zardic strength and stability, however no measures will be taken yet, before all diplomatic channels have been tested. In regards to the Socialist Federation at our Eastern border, all trade between the nations who do not oblige to the most basic democratic and humanitarian principles are sanctioned from trade with the Federacio de Zardugalo, and therefore this list of trade sanctioned nations now sadly includes all the member nations of the Socialist Federation. However we will support the refugees fleeing from these oppressive communist amd undemocratic regimes and we will not abandon diplomacy.

Flags lowered for Death of Marco Provo aged 82
Marco Provo, the most popular Liberecana Unio leader, has passed away today. The former President of Zardugalo was hated by many, loved by most. Nothing in between.

Image
Marco Provo (05/05/4140 - 01/06/4222) President: (06/4178 - 11/4184, 05/4187 - 03/4206)
The laissez faire, free-market capitalist, is the LU's most successful and recognizable member, with his charisma and determination, he pulled through. Flags will be lowered today, to commemorate the death of former President Marco Provo at age 82, who was the most popular leader of the LU. The LU, and many in Zardugalo are grieving. Some though are celebrating. The twin sons of Marco, Alfio and Pouko Provo, Ministers of Finance and Defence respectively, are of course deepest affected, this is what they said:
We are grieving today, as our father, and the last of the 'old guard' has passed away. We are one family here, and when Adorinda Laršen, the founder of the party and mother of our friend, president of the LU and Chief Minister of Zardugalo, passed away, we were all grieving too. Adorinda has mined this raw material of a party, the impure iron ore called LU. Marco, father, has molded this iron into a sharp and strong blade, to protect Zardugal and defeat our opponents. He never had time to use the blade, he kept trying to mold it to perfection, once he saw, that perfection is subjective, he has left, seeing that his work is done. He fought for what he thought was right, and when he knew, that it was time, he left. We remember the faces of people when he resigned: sadness and demand that we should not dare to abuse his name and honor. This is what we carry with us now. We cannot move forward without remembering the past. We are the new generation and we have to keep his name honorable throughout the ages.

Maya Laršen has added:
When we say Marco Provo, we mean Liberecana Unio. When we say Liberecana Unio, we mean Marco Provo. Marco lived, Marco lives, Marco will live!
(tears flowing; clapping)

Some of course have celebrated, as Marco was very Capitalist, he essentially created the current party image, and wanted at one point to annex the Jelbic province Rilmos, to gain access to the Majatran Sea. However he was always diplomacy first, creating a transpartizan coalition with the centre-left SLP and always refraining from violence. Furthermore he was always Zardugal first, ideology second, that is why, despite his very liberal views, economic and social, he has never accelerated to full throtle in his policy, refraining from radical reforms, prefering stability. This did not go well, and therefore his sitting on the fence is credited as the cause for the financial crisis in Zardugalo. That is when he left. After being 25 years president.

Marco Provo will be buried in Nova Unkaso, in the grave yard close to his home near Metzstrato.

Zardic Ports to be expanded!
20 years to make other Zardic ports outside Konstandia the pride of the Nation

Image
planned expansion in Gatineo: ~30000 TEU

The ending of the global financial crisis has created lots of opportunities for Zardugal. As the nation and government went out of the crisis strong, with major economic partnerships emerging, specifically the one with Istalia and the Majatran alliance, the state has some money to spend.

Trade has increased drastically with Istalia and other majatran and terran powers, especially due to the common economic area and alliance and the emergence of new economic powers out of the ashes formed by the crisis. Furthermore, due to the expansion in the military budget, the navy has received a nice bonus and the ports need to accommodate our navy, and therefore expansion was long overdue.

Like the Chief Minister of Zardugalo correctly noted:
The reputation of our Navy is on the line!

This plan should ensure that Zardugalo emerges as one of the world leaders in Naval trade, and lastly, the statement of Maya Laršen continued:
Nothing can be compared to Konstandia, but its sheer size is not allowed to be an excuse to keep our other ports sub-par. We need to diversify, and now we have the time, resources and necessity to expand.

This law has been long on the agenda of the LU, and increased their widespread support among the country. Even environmental agencies belive that newer technologies will do less harm to the marine environment than the current old ones.

In other news, Zardugalo has voted in October 4222, Legislative elections have been held for the Nacia Asembleo de Zardugal in the Federacio de Zardugalo. There were 74,789,617 people with suffrage. A total of 60,396,190 votes have been cast, putting turnout at a magnificent 80.75%. Maršo Petkido has won the presidential elections and is heading for a further term, hoping that his popularity means the support of the nation to his and LU's uber liberal policies. He gained 32,823,574 votes, 53.98%. In the Nacia Asembleo, 52.61% of the vote went to LU, and 47.33% to the ZNLP, this allowed LU to gain 5 more seats, increasing their slim majority. Endiraho, Unkaso and Ingomo voted LU, Kalvario and Sakvejo ZNLP. This time, after long talks, the LU and ZNLP agreed to run a coalition govt. To portray the unity of the nation, despite the close elections. And Maršo Petkido has again proclaimed his trust to all the staff and Ministers, especially Saria Mozby, the Director of the Zardic National Security Organization, Zardugal's top umbrella organization for security and intelligence. The President said:
Without each and every one of them, we would not be where we are now, despite all troubles, I can fully rely on them, their judgement and their competence!

The LU Government has achieved their promises
After the passage of the Banks bill, people are afraid that Zardugal might turn into Ancapistan.

The LU government officially passed the Law on what to do in case of a financial crash. Die Hard Capitalists and Socialists rejoice: The banks are handled by the free market, meaning, NO BAILOUTS.

This is the most daring punch in the face of the financial sector lobby, ever. Now the LU rejoice at the success of their program, but it seems like, to stay relevant, the LU will pass further liberalization, turning Zardugalo into a capitalist brothel.

The LU denies this in a statement:
Only because we have achievrd our goals, does not mean that we need new ones. Maintaining the success is key.

With the LU being the only party, it is interesting to see what will happen in the near future.

NSP LEADER BLASTS BALTUSIA'S NEW ECONOMIC AND RELIGIOUS POLICY

Olimpio Gracchus says he had to abandon business in Security Council nation and expects a mass exodus

The leader of Zardugal's newest political party has hit out at the government in Baltusia over its clampdown on religious beliefs and private businesses.

The dominant Left Bloc coalition is set to pass a series of bills that will transform the north Seleyan nation economically and culturally.

And the actions have drawn criticism from Olimpio Gracchus, who recently abandoned his business interests in Baltusia after the new government came to power and returned to his native Zardugal to set up the Nacia Socialisma Partio (NSP).

He said the drastic policies of the Left Bloc would force mass cultural and economic migration from Baltusia, and ruin private businesses.

Previous Left Bloc bills have seen more than 5,000 Yeudish families flee the country after religious schools and prayers in schools were banned outright.

Gracchus, whose new party have just polled 25 per cent of the vote in their first election, said: "As a private businessman it was impossible to carry on in Baltusia. Don't get me wrong I believe in the dual economy but the government there just want to drive up corporation tax and nationalise everything.

"They seem very suspicious of private enterprise and one of the coalition parties even stood up in Congress and said 'we need to increase taxes on the private sector as they cheat a lot on taxes!'

"The President, Christopher Jacobs, must be a moron to allow this to happen and to allow these people to be in his cabinet. Anyway, it was the final straw for me and I returned to Zardugal."

Gracchus added: "The religious laws are crazy too. There is 40 per cent of the population with Hosian belief and there were hundreds of religious schools - now they have gone overnight. Religions - even official religions - will soon be banned from promoting themselves - it is a crazy situation.

"They lost 1,000s of people when the Yeudish community got up and left a few years ago, goodness knows what will happen now. I hope our country will help to re-settle religious folk if they leave Baltusia and are looking for a new home."

OPPOSITION LEADER FURIOUS WITH GOVERNMENT SILENCE OVER RESTORATION OF THE MONARCHY

Image
Olimpio Gracchus who is calling on world leaders to voice their concerns.

The leader of the opposition has called on the international community to denounce the Zardic government's plans to restore the monarchy - without consulting the people.

Olimpio Gracchus says the Conservative Party's decision to install the Queen of Barmenia, Maria bet Nasir, as Zardugal's Head of State, came completely out of the blue and with no explanation.

Gracchus, who is Leader of the Socialist Republican opposition in the Assembly, urged the government to hold a referendum on the matter so that people could express their views one way or another. But instead, he claims the government refused to listen, did not consult the people and have still remained silent on the major constitutional upheaval.

Gracchus said: "The decision to install a queen and remove our presidential republican system was not in any election manifesto and simply came out of the blue. We urged the government to hold a referendum and if the people had voted for a monarch, then so be it.

"But, no, they refused and have not given any answer as to why they are deciding to install Her Grace Maria bet Nasir as our head of state.

"There are many who fear the Conservative Party has imperialist ambitions and given the situation on our continent, particularly in regards to the popular expansion of the Majatran Revolutionary Socialist Federation, I fear repercussions.

"Therefore, I ask world leaders, particularly those who uphold the value and virtues of republicanism and socialism to express their concerns to our government and make our leaders realise if they continue to run our country like a one party state they will come completely undone."

Meanwhile, thousands of protestors have taken to the streets of the Zardic capital to denounce the decision. Placards bearing slogans such as "Revolution is Needed" and "Socialism not Monarchy" were being waved by the demonstrators as they passed the Assembly parliament building.

Police clashed with some of the protestors and several arrests were made for minor offences of affray; however, in the main proceedings have passed fairly peacefully - but more protests are planned.

ZARDIC GOVERNMENT UNVEILS PLANS TO SIGN GROUNDBREAKING NON-AGGRESSION TREATY WITH MRSF

Pact sends out clear message that attacks on national sovereignty will not be tolerated on Majatra, says Chief Minister

Olimpio Gracchus, Chief Minister of Zardugal, has announced his intention to sign a treaty of co-operation and non-aggression with member states of the Majatran Revolutionary Socialist Federation.

The wide-ranging treaty will not only guarantee peaceful relations and diplomatic exchange between the MRSF and the Republic but allows the Zardic government to take "appropriate, effective measures to ensure peace and security" if another signatory nation is attacked.

Chief Minister Gracchus said the treaty was necessary to ensure peace and stability on Majatra and followed increased "diplomatic aggression and miltaryi hostility towards the democratically-elected government in Badara".

Gracchus said: "Given the alarming amount of sabre rattling taking place from overseas, given the lack of understanding of the rights of democratically-elected governments to legitimately ask for help from its neighbours and given the inability to recognise the difference between terrorists and freedom fighters, the Republic of Zardugal has decided to take action. Now we also see the conflict in Badara being turned into a battle between socialist values and capitalism, which further alarms me.

"This treaty of co-operation between our nation and the member states of the MRSF will send out a clear message: the sovereignty of nations in Majatra is not up for debate. Any country or organisation that thinks they can send troops to a nation state on our continent with the intention of regime change for ideological reasons will come up against considerable opposition and the appropriate response."

Chief Minister Gracchus also lambasted the failed Lamond Peace Conference, which saw talks quickly collapse between Rildanor, Dorvik and Kazulia and Badara.

He said: "What can I really say? The talks were destined to fail before they started. Badara does not trust Rildanor for its inability to condemn countries that have sent troops to aid the anti-government Coalition in their country and Dorvik and Kazulia are close supporters of Rildanor. It was a naive attempt to broker a deal that wasn't thought through from the start.

"My own thoughts are that if Resolution 29 in World Congress fails to provide an adequate solution then a neutral country should be asked to arbitrate - otherwise any further talks would be doomed to fail."

CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES HAND GRACCHUS DUAL ROLE AS PRESIDENT AND CHIEF MINISTER

Image
Man at the top: Olimpio Gracchus is now President and Chief Minister

Zardugal's Chief Minister Olimpio Gracchus has also been sworn in as the first president of the new republic after controversial constitutional law changes gave him the right to hold both roles at the same time.

The Republic Assembly passed an amendment which allows the Chief Minister (head of government) to also take on the responsibilities of head of state.

Some critics have said it puts too much power into one man's hands. But Gracchus has defended the decision saying the move
is only temporary and a new president will take over the role as soon as new elections can be organised.

The position of head of state has been vacant since the new government decided to remove Her Grace Maria bet Nasir as Queen and move from a constitutional monarchy to a semi-presidential system. But that was two years ago and no election for a newly-elected president has been arranged.

Political observers have also raised eyebrows at other constitutional changes pushed through by the Socialist Republican government which will, in effect, make the president's future role more ceremonial and completely answerable to the government.

One critic told the Zardic World Report: "It means whoever is Chief Minister will run the country. The President's future role will be to sign bills and smile at foreign ambassadors but because he or she carries out her duties under advice from the government there won't be the checks and balances to the system there was in the past.

"Even the supreme court judges who are appointed by the President will be chosen with governmental approval in the future.

"It means Chief Minister Gracchus and his successors will control the legislature, the judiciary and the executive. Is that really a healthy democratic system? They removed a monarch to make the system more democratic, now look where we are."

Of course, all will be different if the Royal Conservative Party can reclaim power with a big enough majority as they would tear up the changes Chief Minister Gracchus has implemented.

But both Assembly and Presidential elections seem several years away and the RCP would need a huge swing in seat to achieve the 2/3rds of Assembly seats they would need.
