SUPREME CHAIR STRESSES CONTINUITY

The Bashnya May 13, 4915: Citizen M. F. Saburov Supreme Chair of the People’s Assembly, after meeting with the Cabinet and Krasnyy Narodnyy Soyuz party leaders, indicated he expected there would be little change because of his replacing Citizen M.I. Ovchenikhova.

We have essentially the same problems and the same approach to them. In Federativniyye Sotsialisticheskiye Respubliki Triguniya we have collective leadership not a cult of the personality following Metzist – Leonidist principles including the same criticism – self criticism method of addressing experience influencing decisions.

And we have the same limitations. The Revolution did not eliminate all capitalism holdovers entirely nor can it since many things we did not nationalize can now never be nationalized. It is simply too late.

Do want to say our intelligence services have not detected any actual threat to to us and so we have every reason to believe we can continue to build socialism in one country. We are happy to say some other nations have had the courage to embrace the Revolution or at least the benefits of socialism. We are optimistic the success of our experiment and of others will be an exampe many more will see is truly the better path.

INTERNAL SECURITY

National Defense Command Center, September 15, 4915: Officials of the State Security service, Defense Ministry, General Staff of the Armed Forces and Ministry of Internal Affairs met today to discuss national security intelligence and assets. After the meeting the Defense Minister M.P. Vatunin responded to some questions as follows:

Do want to reiterate what our Supreme Chair indicated, our intelligence services are not reporting any current aggression toward us by a foreign power. That is not to say we are not resented in some circles but we are watching and do not see a current threat.

As you know there are four pillars of our national security policy. Intelligence, military preparedness and diplomacy are three. The fourth is conducting our affairs so we do not have outright enemies foreign or domestic.

On the domestic front, there always have been some people not entirely happy with the system. For instance, there are those who believe we should have less nationalization rather than more. To the extent they have any power they are channeling their efforts to make their business interests appear to be viable, appear to treat their workers right and seem to be paying taxes. Not plotting to overthrow the government.

There are always some military officers who believe civilian control of them prevents the nation from reaching its true destiny. Almost invariably whenever any resolve to act with others it is either to restore some tsarist claimant to a mythical throne or to spread the World Revolution by force of arms under their leadership. Always some. So we watch. Usually they talk too much.

The Metzist- Leonidist theorists who always can tell us how they would have done better do not seem to be likely to resort to conspiracy or violence; they stay within the system. There are bureaucrats who wish they had been promoted, people who are worried the Kozaks are not able to preserve the old ways, people worried the Hulstrians have too much power. They all so far seem to be staying in the system We do have to watch.

Then there are some who want churches to pay no taxes. There are those from time to time who try to stir up anger about this. But since we are taxing them like businesses they can deduct like businesses so very little comes from church income. Like most landowners, they may pay some property tax. But most church operations have adapted very well so mainly it is something to complain about not something anyone is seriously affected by.

So again, not everyone is happy but we think we are watching those who might be likely to try and take the power from the hands of the Sovereign People.

Comrade Poskrebyshev

FOREIGN MINISTER DISCUSSES COMINTERN

The Bashnya, May 16, 4917: After a staff briefing at the Foreign Ministry, Citizen V.P. Poskrebyshev, the Foreign Minister,
responded to questions about the Communist Pact of Independent States (CPIS):

We want to congratulate the CPIS; there is every reason to believe it can become the Communist
Socialist International or Comintern. It seems to be forming around stable membership which is
essential and was sorely lacking in other efforts to get an organization off the ground. The CPIS
could well have an important role to play in advocating the correct ethical choices for the people of
Terra.

When asked if Federativniyye Sotsialisticheskiye Respubliki Triguniya would be joining, Comrade Poskrebyshev replied:

We really do not know. We would like to. According to the terms of the treaty we are ineligible for membership. We have asked the Secretary General of the CPIS if the members want us to apply anyway. Do not know what the response will be.

If we do hear from the CPIS that we are invited anyway, we will submit the question to the Central Committee. And then we will see how that goes.

CPIS SENT TO CENTRAL COMMITTEE

The Bashnya March 13, 4918: Citizen M. F. Saburov Supreme Chair of the People’s Assembly, after meeting with the Cabinet and Krasnyy Narodnyy Soyuz party leaders, responded to questions about the Comintern proposal:

Obviously we are in favor in general terms of the Comintern proposal. The Communist Pact of Independent States is attracting communist and socialist nations in a manner not seen anytime recently. So we certainly are inclined to join. There are two difficulties.

The first is we do not know whether the Central Committee will ratify it. That of course is true of any treaty or legislation.

The second problem is the one Comrade Poskrebyshev and the Foreign Ministry have been working on. Article 1 of the treaty seems to disqualify us from membership. Whether that is a real bar we are not going to learn any time soon.

What we are going to do is see if the Central Committee will ratify it. If they do we will be joining knowing that members could expel us should they choose to do so on the basis of Article 1.

Comrade Ovchenikhova

KNS AGENDA

The Bashnya, September 11 4919: Citizen M. I. Ovchenikhova, Chair of the People’s Assembly, after a meeting of the Cabinet and Central Committee Leaders, issued the following statement:

First, Krasnyy Narodnyy Soyuz (KNS) will not be making sweeping changes; nationalized and likely to be nationalized industries will be determined as it has been for the last hundred years. Our defense and security policy will not be noticeably changed; we are open to engaging with the rest of Terra but not at the expense of sacrificing building socialism in our nation. We are not seeking to rule Terra or be ruled by another nation.

We are considering a few name changes. Primarily titles for our heads of state and government.

More important we are considering seriously taking a different approach to opposition parties than that taken by Markov Pavlovich for whom we retain the highest respect. But we may make a change. Why? KNS leans toward the idea that the Socialist Revolution is best protected by having the Sovereign People choose the direction rather than rely on the machinery of power to impose our will on the Sovereign People. We believe we need to persuade.

The debate is by no means over.

CESU MILITARY EXERCISES

National Defense Command Center, November 5, 4919: The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, General Viktor Vladimirovich Kolchak, announced that joint military maneuvers are being conducted with Hobrazia, Yingdala, Endralon Likatonia, Telamon, Davostan and Aloria as a joint security exercise of the Confederate Economic Security Union acting through its Confederate Security Union.

The operational scenario is that a recently inaugurated highly epauletted President for Life of a powerful nation somewhere to the south has become incensed by remarks of a government official of Telamon criticizing rather explicitly her or his homophobic purges. It is assumed the dictator either does not have nuclear weapons or will not risk using them and provoking Terra wide retribution.

This dictator has declared a blockade of Telamon including civilian and naval sea traffic as well as civilian and military air traffic from Telamon through the Mad Dog Ocean. The blockade will not reach into actual territory of Telamon for fear of there being a Macon continental guardian who might react with extreme hostility.

The Enemy Fleet is played by the South Ocean Fleet with the Rodshyadam carrier and is treated as two thirds of the Enemy Navy which shall be considered somewhat larger than either the navy of Yingdala or of Trigunia with air assets accordingly. The remaining naval forces and air assets of Trigunia and the naval and air of Yingdala, Davostan, Likatonia, Hobrazia Telamon and Aloria are counted norrmally.

The initial move began with the Enemy Fleet arriving in the Mad Dog Ocean allegedly from the south and enforcing a blockade of Telamon civilian and naval sea traffic into the Mad Dog Ocean and air traffic civilian or military from Telamon to Southern Artania, Seleya or Southern Keris via the Mad Dog Ocean.

Telamon mobilized preparing to resist any actual invasion attempt.

Alorian air assets began patrolling the Lievenian Sea and waters north of Migrants Pass to detect any enemy movement.

A Hobrazian naval task force, a naval task force from Endralon and a Likatonian naval task force joined a naval task force from Yingdala in the Sea of Lost Souls constituting about two thirds of its naval assets with the remainder in the area of Yingdala. This movement was detected by submarines of the Enemy Fleet in the South Ocean which alerted the enemy that this gathering would have greater naval force than its remaining naval assets at home but not greater air assets. The Enemy Fleet would have greater air assets than this group as well at this point.

An Alorian naval task force and a UDK naval task force joined the Trigunian South Ocean Fleet with the Petrovgrad carrier in the Green Sea. Davostan’s Army stoods ready to join Telamon in resisting any actual invasion. The Air Forces of Davostan and Endralon stand ready for a joint action.

The Trigunian Green Sea Flotilla joined the Trigunian Anantonese Fleet with the carrier Markov Pavlovich in Deliverance Pass abutting the Mad Dog Ocean. 40 MiG 35’s from the Trigunian Air Force and 60 Su 34’s from the 15th, 16th and 97th Naval Air Wings joined Likatonian air assets in Likatonia as did Hobrazian air superiority assets. The Hobrazian and Trigunian aircraft have been granted temporary use during the course of the exercise to Norwalk Air Complex near St. Jackson which is where much of the Likatonian Air Force is based.

About 1/3 of the Trigunian Navy was treated as remaining in the port of Zvropol to guard against unknown threats.

The Tu 142 MZ’s stationed in Kaiserburg Naval Base drove the submarines of the Enemy Fleet watching its north back into the protection of the Enemy Fleet.

At the time set air superiority assets of Trigunia in the Green Sea and in Deliverance Pass and of Likatonia, Trigunia and Hobrazia in Likatonia as well as air superiority units of Tealamon, Endralon and Davostan in their home bases attack and establish air superiority in the Mad Dog Ocean over the Enemy Fleet.

Thereupon the Trigunian, Alorian and UDK naval forces in the Green Sea and the Pass of Deliverance engaged the Enemy Fleet while the 60 anti ship Su 34’s temporarily stationed in Likatonia assaulted Enemy Fleet vessels.

The Enemy Fleet having lost air superiority and with the prospect of an unfavorable kill ratio to the allies in view of the anti ship aircraft joining the naval assault and aware of the presence of the naval force to the south determined upon retreat into the South Ocean via the Artanian Sea. The South Ocean was entered from the southwest by the Yingdala, Likatonia and Hobrazia naval forces. The Trigunian, Alorian and UDK naval forces pursued.

The Enemy Fleet broadcasts the blockade is lifted and retreats into the Majatran Sea or Migrants Pass as may be ending the exercise.

Food and Agriculture Minister M.A. Kressenstein

SOVKHOZ CORN??

Zvropol, March 11, 4820: Citizen Maximillian Augustus Kressenstein, Minister of Food and Agriculture, attended a conference on agricultural economics at Zavrospol State University for agricultural economists, state farm program senior management and grocery chain executives. Asked about rumors that state farms were going to plant everything in corn, Comrade Chernov responded:

Hardly. But first let us address the rumor. At some point after visits to other nations certain politically influential officials suggested everything planted in wheat be planted in corn, a name that has obscure meanings in history but seems to now have settled on one type of agricultural product. This would be accompanied by taking the 30% of cropland available that is not currently cultivated and shift wheat production to that. This demand was bureaucratically stalled until the political will for this misadventure evaporated.

Also instrumental were two motion pictures, The Black Winds of Spask and The Rape of the Virgin Lands which featured agricultural workers prevailing in the name of the Sovereign People over political blunders. Indeed when Comrade Apparatchikh, the mythical First Secretary, says “Frankly comrades, this is not corn this is water,” in the latter, the wolves have caught the running dogs pf capitalism.

There is again talk of planting corn, Why? The feed crop of corn, barley, oats, maize and rye has been fluctuating. We have had two bad crops followed by low prices in a banner year of production. The corporations, large land holders and small farmers seem to be worn out with guessing the next move of the market and we have shortages. More of it is also going to biofuel production.

There is no sound reason for Federativniyye Sotsialisticheskiye Respubliki Triguniya to have to import cattle feed. Accordingly, what we are goibg to do is grow corn on our State Farms in the temperate areas of Brakav, Radin, and the southern parts of Zavrospol, Lesnov and Vrostok. We will grow at least enough to feed our cattle on State farms plus enough to cover about half the shortage as well as some for biofuel produced on some of our State Farms. We feel the private sectior will wake up and better plan production and this will work out. If we have to much we will sell it for biofuel somewhere; if we have too little we will use what we planned for biofuel to make up the shortage.

TROOP TRANSPORTS ORDERED

National Defense Command Center, September 15, 4921: Defense Minister M.P. Vatunin announced that the Defense Ministry and General Staff of the Armed Forces had approved the recommendation of the Navy Staff that some new naval transports of an older model than the most modern be built primarily for possible use by the Naval Infantry Brigades.

The State Shipbuilding Corporation will over the next eight years build five Ivan Rogov Class landing ships at the Petrograd Naval Shipyard and five more at the Zvropol Naval Base and Shipyard. All will then be assigned to the Rodshyadam Naval Facility.

The Ivan Rogov Class landing ship has both a well deck and bow ramp with a 2500 ton cargo capacity. It can carry 25 tanks and 520 marines or alternatively 53 tanks and 80 armoured personnel carriers. The Ivan Rogov Class has a length of 157 meters, a beam of 23.8 meters and a draught of 6.7 meters. It is propelled by two shafts driven by two gas turbine engines with a speed of 35 kmh. and a range of 13,800 km. It has a crew complement of 239 and can carry 4 Ka – 27 helicopters. It is armed with surface to air missiles, rocket launchers, four six barreled 30 mm air defense guns and 2 76 mm multipurpose guns. It displaces 11,580 tons without cargo.

HELICOPTER PURCHASES

National Defense Command Center, September 11 4921: Vice Admiral Arkady Andreyevich Yeshov, Deputy Navy Chief of Staff, announced that the Defense Ministry and General Staff of the Armed Forces had approved the Navy Staff recommendation that the helicopter complement be ordered for the ten Ivan Rogov Class landing ships being purchased from State Shipbuilding Corporation.

Since the ten Ivan Rogov Class landing ship can each carry four Ka – 27 helicopters, the purchase order to Kamenev Helicopter Company, a part of the State Aircraft Corporation conglomerate, will be for forty helicopters; ten Ka – 27 PS search and rescue equipped units and thirty Ka – 27 M anti submarine equipped helicopters. Delivery will be over the next eight years.

NUCLEAR POWER PLANT TO BE CONSTRUCTED IN VROSNOK

Ekaterinoslav, September 17, 4922: Citizen Lazar Moseievich Zinoviev, Minister of Finance, and Citizen Mikhail Kirilovich Pobedonostov, Minister of Science and Technology, were in the Federal Socialist Republic of Vrosnok to meet with TriAtom officials and the Mayor and City Council of Ekaterinoslav to officially inaugurate construction of the Ekaterinoslav Atomic Energy Plant which will be the source of electrical power for the city.

This is the second expansion of TriAtom in recent years. Planning for this project began in 4888 when it was decided to select a city in Vrosnok or Lesnov for a nuclear power plant to power the electrical grid of the city. For many years prior to that TriAtom was maintaining power to a few selected locations primarily to preserve the necessary technology and technicians. Podolsk in Lesnov was selected and the power began flowing in November of 4912.

The government is evaluating and comparing nuclear power going to Podolsk with hydro electric power going to Vladimirsk in terms of safety, environmental impact, cost, reliability and difficulty in maintenance and repair for the purpose of future decisions on power for the nation. It is anticipated the main actual cost will be handling of nuclear waste. Comparisons to date have been positive and so this second project is being initiated.

The nuclear power plant is a thermal power station with the heat source being a nuclear reactor. The fission in the reactor heats the reactor coolant which then goes to a steam generator which heats water to produce steam that will drive a steam turbine connected to a generator of electricity. The condensed steam is captured in a cooling tower or other secondary side and pumped back into the steam generator.

The fission in the nuclear reactor produces radioactivity so that a protective shield will be necessary around it as well as concrete layer to help contain the radioactivity and protect the reactor from unexpected impacts.
