With Foreign Minister His Grace Duke Boris Igumnov in tow, Vicereine of Trigunia The Most Honorable Countess Vira Lukyanenko, or simply The Countess for short, took a break from discussing the relationship between Trigunia and Hulstria discuss foreign affairs in Kien, Greater Hulstria. The press conference was held highlighting the Great Princedom's & Tsardom's position over the possibility of war between members of the Macon Treaty Organization of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance and the informal alliance of Kalopia and Kafuristan.
The Most Honorable Countess stated that "Trigunia prides itself on offering a helping hand and honoring its obligations when called upon by members of its various alliances. However, there are times when it is not in the direct interest for Trigunia to engage in overt nor covert action against nations. Given that Trigunia is a member of the Macon Pact, but also a large consumer of products coming from the region of Majatra, specifically through the Majatran Sea, as well as the shipping of our own products to the nations of the continent. These vessels carry these import and export products through various bodies of water, over vast distances. A war in this region and through these bodies of water, no matter how limited, will greatly impact Trigunia as an island nation.
"It is with this in mind, as well as a sense of common humanity, that Trigunia offer its services in mediating the conflict between these two sides in order to prevent war, which will be not only destructive of human lives and fortunes, but will also disrupt the commerce of the world.
"A a member of the Macon Pact, Trigunia officially refuses outright to engage in hostile actions against the Independent Wantuni Republic, or Kalopia, and the Holy Ranz'riah Empire of Queranzári Kafuristan. Trigunia will not offer military assistance, nor will it offer non-military support, but instead, wishes to avoid this conflict at all costs.
"Because of this, Trigunia officially offers a conference to be held at the Bear's Den in Heinrichgrad in which both sides can discuss their grievances and come to a beneficial conclusion."
After the Vicereine spoke, Foreign Minister Igumnov reinforced her comments but also hinted at the details of the discussions with Greater Hulstria about tying the two nations even closer together. This is the first trip of an acting Trigunian Viceroy to Greater Hulstria on official business, which is quite odd given the close relationship the two countries hold. It seems that the lack of these visits has become an unofficial tradition on the Trigunian camp, given the untimley death of the first Viceroy His Grace R.D. Mashkov, 1st Duke of Petrovgrad on his way to such an important state visit, and was only recently changed. With the Mashkov family relegated to the sidelines of Trigunian politics following the marriage of Her Grace Anastasiya Mashkova, 2nd Duchess of Petrovgrad to His Imperial Majesty Franz VII of Hulstria & II of Trigunia & I of Dolgaria, the new Vicereine seems to be making a name for herself by breaking from such traditions.
And, being the arbiter of a possible peace deal, this will solidify her prestige at home and abroad as well as usher in a change from the normally sabre-rattling foreign policy of Trigunia.
