Liberal Conservative Party forms

Fort William, Duchy of Orange - On the steps of a building owned by Benedict Lowe, the medium-sized business owner, he announced that he had been selected by a group of business leaders, labor officials and others to be the new leader of the Liberal Conservative Party. In his announcement, he noted that veteran conservative political operative Haider Marsh had been selected to lead the campaign who developed the slogan "New Dawn for Luthori!" which is widely seen as a chance for the conservative right in Luthori to recapture serious political leadership. The speech before a gathered crowd of supporters called for a wide array of reforms pointed at liberalizing the Luthorian economy, focusing on redevelopment of the Ministry of Defense as an asset to Luthorian interests domestically and abroad, the focus on developing regional ties such as joining the Artanian League and focusing on building relations with stable trading partners. Luckily, the leader of the Liberal Conservatives won a seat in a by-election in Fort William and the thus short political career. One of the first major political announcements was that the Liberal Conservatives would be supporting the White Rose political party for the office of the presidency, which they believe has done a "...great job..." at leading Luthori.

There was a number of announcements from Liberal Conservative Spokesman Archibald Chambers, he announced that former Colonel in the Luthorian Army Aston Williamson would be considered for the role of Minister of Defense and would have the daunting undertaking of rebuilding and re-organizing a lackluster Luthorian Armed Forces which for years has been neglected and mismanaged due to rapid and often broad political strokes. Chambers noted that should be selected to pick up the Defense Ministry, he would be focused on the development of a professional, apolitical force which would be used to defend Luthori's borders and build international relationships abroad to bring the level of readiness and training that is expected of one of the world once most formidable fighting forces. One of the first plans in his published Liberal Conservative White Paper on Defense is a large inspection of the Luthorian Navy and the development of a new structure for leadership within the Luthorian Armed Forces, including the establishment of a permanent ready task force for situations regionally and across the globe. The second component is a massive restructuring of the Luthorian Army and Air Force which will help eradicate the "bloat" that has developed over the years.

The man tapped to lead the Foreign Office and the foreign policy of the Liberal Conservatives is Gabriel Jackson, a graduate of the University of Fort William's International Affairs and Diplomatic School who believes that the establishment of ties to the Kingdom of Dorvik as the regional hegemon is imperative. Jackson is also supportive of loans and grants offered by the Artanian Infrastructure Investment Bank which has tied itself closely to the Artanian League, the spiritual successor of the Artanian Union. While the focus on regional issues is paramount for the reinvention of Luthori, the "New Englia Question" remains close to the mind of Mr. Jackson. New Englia is a former colony of Kirlawa and Luthori based on the eastern coast of Dovani and has struggled with both ethnic violence and political tension over the years. While Luthori has often failed to take stock of its ethnic ties to New Englia, Mr. Jackson states that "Luthori cannot ignore expatriates across the world and New Englia is no exception." The potential Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs or at least potential high ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Ministry has called for a renewed interest in East Dovani as a potential new market for Luthorian goods and building trading relations with the Vascanian Empire to reduce reliance on oil and gas from Majatran countries.

The domestic program developed largely by Leila Turner, a leading health services administrator and Gracie-Mae Burke, an engineer and professor at Fort William University of Marine Science and Technology, have called on the Luthorian government to take a radical approach to reorganizing the Luthorian education system, the university system and the development of comprehensive overhauls to social welfare and healthcare. It is likely that they will continue to espouse their views overtime. As the sole Member of the People's Council, Liberal Conservative leader Benedict Lowe has already proposed two pieces of legislation. One being the Campaign Finance Reform Act (CFRA) which will seek to grant the Home Office the ability to finance candidate for political office versus the current system where candidate that accept private contributions cannot accept public funds. On the floor of the People's Council, Lowe stated that "We [the Liberal Conservatives] believe that in order for fair political elections we need to change the way that our government runs its elections. We propose that the Luthorian government provide funding for candidates who wish to stand for political elections in Luthori."The second piece of legislation proposed was the Labor Reform Act (LRA) which seeks to allow open, closed and union shops, prevent DWCs, which the Liberal Conservatives see as inherently socialist, from running and managing businesses and formally obligates trade unions and employers to work out daily working hours.

Liberal Conservatives win 8, Lowe works with White Rose

Liberal Conservative leader Benedict Lowe leaving 10 Crown Street following meetings with the President and Prime Minister

Fort William - The now official headquarters of the Liberal Conservative Party was abuzz with a light jubilation as the Liberal Conservatives took 8 seats in the People's Council. Benedict Lowe, the party leader retained his by-election seat in Fort William and added several prominent members of the Liberal Conservatives to the People's Council. Immediately following the election, the White Rose approached the Liberal Conservatives alongside several other parties and asked them to attend a meeting at 10 Crown Street, the location of the traditional residence of the Imperial Seal Bearer and Imperial Prime Minister but has simply become the home of the Prime Minister with the President living in the same residence. Benedict Lowe was also announced as a potential appointee for a position as a Deputy Prime Minister to assist in the "New Dawn for Luthori" as the slogan for the Liberal Conservatives stated. Benedict Lowe left 10 Crown Street and announced that it was likely that the Liberal Conservatives would occupy the roles of Defense Ministry, lead by veteran Luthorian Army Colonel (Ret.) Aston Williamson who has been very vocal about the status of the Luthorian Armed Forces and the ultimate role that they will play in the rebuilding of the Holy Luthori Empire and the role that they will play in the development of the "New Economy" in Luthori. At a meeting several days following the election and the announcement that the Liberal Conservatives would land the Defense Ministry, Williamson met with several dozen members of the failing Luthori defense industry and got them to agree to a unification of several major components to form the LDE Systems PLC, an amalgamation of several defense companies that would otherwise be solvent due to the rapid nationalization and privatization over the past several years. Many of these industries through the merger will be capable of producing, updating and retrofitting craft for the Luthorian Armed Forces to ensure that it meets its modern needs in the field, at home and abroad.

The second potential appoint was that of Gracie-Mae Burke as Secretary of State for Science and Technology. While stumbling into a position as a Member of the People's Council due to a number of light hearted gaffes during the election cycle, Ms. Burke is a noted engineer who wants to put the "New Economy" of Luthori on the map, mostly in the development of space technology such as satellites, rockets, network infrastructure and IT development. Ms. Burke's vision for Luthori, and for Artania is widely considered to be heavily technological and reliant on cooperation from the many various sectors in Luthori. It is likely that Luthori will enter into cooperation agreement with nations around them to work on building a continent-wide system for sharing information, including renovating the aging internet and network infrastructure of Luthori as a whole. Rumors have sprouted that Burke and incoming Defense Minister Williamson have plans to "revolutionize" the Luthori defense networks to ensure constant, clear and effectual communication at home and abroad, notably on the battlefield through a brand new domain warfare control system and battlefield network. Alongside Burke will be close friend and ally, Health and Social Services State Secretary Leila Turner, a hospital administrator who has saved several dozen hospitals throughout Luthori following the rapid period of privatization and nationalization. Turner's office was light on comments but it is widely known that she called a meeting of all notable Luthorian doctors, insurance leaders and adminstrators immediately following the election and called fixing the healthcare system in Luthori as a matter of "...national security."

Who is the Viscount Whittemore?
February 4708

Having won the Colworth by-election as an independent last year, the eccentric nobleman has now announced he will be forming a new party: the Royalists. Attacking the White Rose as having ‘sold out to the left’ and being ‘part of the liberal elite they would have the electorate believe they oppose’, he has said the Royalists will focus on returning ‘law and order to this country, something so long abandoned by the left’, upholding ‘traditional moral values being undermined by the left and their support for sinful homosexuality’, and, as suggested by their name, the return of the monarchy. But who exactly is the Viscount Whittemore?

Following the abduction of 9-year-old Elizabeth Oxendale last month, the Viscount offered a reward of £100,000 for any information assisting in what he called ‘the hunting down the paedophiles responsible’. Upon the discovery that it was in fact a case of parental child abduction and the girl’s father was responsible, the Viscount retracted his remarks and instead promised to put the reward money towards the father’s defence, describing him as ‘a brave, devoted father who has been unfairly stopped from seeing his child by the misandrist, left-wing-dominated family courts’.

The Viscount is the son of the Marquess of Ainbridge, who readers may remember as having been embroiled in scandal eleven years ago when in this very paper it was revealed he had an extramarital affair with a maid and, when she fell pregnant, forced her to have an abortion. Following this incident, however, the Viscount attacked his father as a ‘disgraceful child murderer’ and cut off all contact with him. The Viscount himself has been married to Jennie Bradshaw, who is seventeen years his junior at 27, since 4700, but before his marriage was rumoured to be romantically linked with Kirlawa-born music hall singer Caoimhe O’Domhnaill. He studied politics and philosophy at Northminster University between 4683 and 4686, during which time he was a member of the university’s rowing club and the Emperor Reinhard Society, a monarchist dining club with a surprisingly socially liberal reputation.

Through his company Alred Holdings ltd, the Viscount owns a number of mines, steel mills, and factories, mostly concentrated in Orange and Erneshire. It is perhaps related to this that he supports strong protectionist policies such as high tarriffs on foreign imports and large government subsidies for the industry and manufacturing sectors, despite anti-corruption being a key plank of his new party’s platform.

Whittemore proposes ‘National Military Strategy’

The Viscount Whittemore has proposed what he calls a ‘National Military Strategy’, and despite his usually divisive attitude is now seeking bipartisan support for it. In a statement to the press he said: “While we may strongly disagree with the left, we are at the end of the day all Luthorians, and I hope that even they will lend their support to our country’s servicemen who have sadly for so long been neglected by politicians.” The strategy, which is available online, proposes the reconstruction of the Luthorian army around the use of armoured warfare, specifically tanks and mechanised infantry, which Whittemore says is necessary for effective military operations in Artania. The number of armoured fighting vehicles (tanks and infantry fighting vehicles) is to be increased to 10,000.

But the strategy does not only cover the army: Whittemore proposes rebuilding the navy to focus on speed and strength in numbers, with a large increase in the number of submarines, which he describes as “incredibly powerful yet often underestimated and outright ignored by politicians because of their lack of flashiness”. He also states that “the obsession with the aircraft carrier that previous efforts have had is ridiculous. While useful for force projection and, for the foolish, a symbol of national strength, Luthori should not be embarking on half-baked so-called ‘humanitarian’ interventions. And where we do need to intervene, amphibious assault carriers can do the job just as well for a much lower cost.”, proposing the construction of 4 ‘amphibious assault helicopter carriers’. In addition to more conventional forms of warfare, the Viscount proposes spending £5 billion on cyberwarfare.

The strategy also covers the air force, which Whittemore says must be prepared for long-range air strikes on both military and economic targets. “Luthori sadly has very few allies in this world, and our country’s complete lack of overseas bases means the air force must be prepared to operate directly from the homeland itself.” For this he proposes building a fleet of tanker aircraft for aerial refueling, allowing the air force to operate even further afield. A new fleet of long-range strategic bombers themselves would be capable of carrying long- and medium-range missiles, both air-to-air and air-to-surface.

Whittemore attacks left over opposition to military plan

“I’m sure all the student activists, who, let’s face it, are their entire membership, feel all warm and fuzzy inside by supporting ‘the LGBTQ+ community’, but the Communists should understand that the working man doesn’t give a hoot about any of that. Working people want a strong military, a strong economy, and a strong Luthori. And the Communists are completely incapable of delivering any of that,” said the Royalist leader.

“The left talks about better healthcare, better wages. But when they’ve been in power have they even tried to deliver any of that? No. The last time in government, what did they do? They legalised the desecration of our country’s flag and they allowed the murder of the sick. And they tried to not just legalise child murder but have the people pay for it. And what’s in their manifesto? Giving murderers and rapists the vote? Not only do they want cuts to the armed forces, they want to cut education too. They want to fill the army with homosexuals. No wonder they oppose the plan I’ve set out. They don’t want to defend this country, they want to undermine it from within.”

Royalists announce ‘Knights of St. Richard’ after Communist threats

Following threats by the Communist Party to send militants to disrupt Royalist meetings, Royalist leader Viscount Whittemore has announced his party will establish a paramilitary force to be called the ‘Knights of St. Richard’. Whittemore has said that this will be a ‘purely defensive’ organisation to protect Royalist meetings and supporters from what he calls ‘Communist thugs’. Former army major Samuel Calderwood, who is standing for the Royalists in Fort William at the next election, will be the paramilitary’s leader, or ‘Grand Master’. The Royalists have said that they have already received hundreds of applications from those looking to join the Knights of St. Richard, and expect to have responded to all applicants within a week.

Whittemore ridiculed suggestions by the Communists that the Royalists were allied with fascists. “The Communists talk about how our supposed fascist allies got less than ten percent of the vote. What did the Anarchists, who are actually allies of the Communists, unlike us and any fascists, get at the last election? Less than one percent of the vote. One might think that those living in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones,” he said. Responding to questions of the Royalists being a ‘fascist party’, as the Communists described them, he said: “the Communists will call anyone who disagrees with them a fascist, that doesn’t make any of it true.”

“Orange should be a Communist heartland if their claims to represent the working class are true. Yet, at the last election, they only got eight percent of the vote there. How can they seriously claim the working people are on their side on ‘LGBTQ+ rights’ and a weak military? If they want to accuse anyone of being ‘enemies of the people’, as they said we are, they should look to themselves first.”

The Communist Party of Luthori sues the Royalist party for the creation of an illegal militia
The CPL has announced that their militants would peacefully demonstrate against fascism in front of the party meetings of the Royalist Party. The Royalist Party reacted by forming a new militia, the ‘Knights of St. Richard’ against a perceived communist threat. However, forming such militias is illegal (http://classic.particracy.net/viewvaria ... MILITARIES). The Communist Leaders already filed a complaint and the leaders of the party will be judged in 5 months. Meanwhile, the paramilitary force has been disbanded and its weapons confiscated.
"This is a real victory against the fascists" said Anthony Maker, leader of the CPL. "The Royalist Party shows its true colors: an extremist, violent, anti-democratic party".

Victory for Royalists as government refuses to ban the Knights of St. Richard

The Viscount Whittemore and his party have successfully defeated a challenge by the Communist Party to dissolve the Royalists’ paramilitary, the Knights of St. Richard, shocking the country in the process. While under Luthorian law paramilitary organisations are banned, the People’s Council voted 226 to 124 against banning the group and confiscating its weapons. The vote saw the Communists, Reds, and Luthorian Democratic Union back a ban, while White Rose, the Social Democrats, and the Royalists voted against one.

During the debate on banning the Knights of St. Richard, the Communists said that local governments controlled by their party would refuse to allow Royalist meetings due to what they described as ‘obvious security concerns’. In response, Samuel Calderwood, Grand Master of the Knights of St. Richard, said that “the only security concerns are that their thugs at their leadership’s direction are going to assault our party’s supporters.” The Viscount Whittemore furiously described it as “nothing but a threat to suppress the right to freely voice what is not just our opinion, but the opinion of the majority, by a left tolerant of homosexuals and child murderers but not patriots”.

The CPL organises a large demonstration in Fort William to protest against the new reform by the far-right Royalist party
They couldn't believe their eyes. The reform has been passed. After the passing of the law, we could see tears in the eyes of communist parliamentarians. "How could that happen in such a modern country" said one.
"This government is a fascist, anti-democratic government" said another.
The Royalist party, a small far-right party which won 1 seat in the People's Council after a by-election proposed the reform, which was unexpectedly adopted. It received the support of White Rose, while the CPL, the SDP, the Anarchist Action opposed it. But the game changer was that the Red Party of Luthori parliamentarians were demonstrating against homophobia on the same day and were not there at the time of the vote. This absence will have crucial consequences on the future of Luthori.
Mandatory prayers in schools, new dress code, enslavement of prisoners of wars, nationalisation of all housing,... for the political science professor, it makes no doubt, the reforms answers the demands of the fascist, fundamentalist, authoritarian and ultranationalist parts of the Luthorian society. "It is not a surprise to see White Rose vote for such a bill, they always have supported anti-democratic parties and propositions."

In reaction to all of this, the communist leader Anthony Maker decided to organise a huge demonstrations in Fort William to point our that there is an alternative to the "fascist political elites" which is communism.
