Forstevs Have It Wrong

Image

House Forstev has it wrong. Apart from being completely incompetent to head the federal council, the Stantons control none of the bronze thrones. The Forstevs also have the perception that the High Count is "in charge" of Beluzia; that is not the case. The Beluz Union is made up of 5 independent counties, and each may choose to temporarily withdraw from the union if they do not support the incumbent High Count. Bickering about it won't change the fact that we have the right to withdraw, and even if the law is changed, we will militantly protect our de facto right when the "de jure" status of it is lost.

The authority scheme in Beluzia goes upwards, not downwards like democratic dictatorships. The people pledge their allegiance to the houses of their preference. This generation just happens to prefer us, thereby using referenda to grant us the estates we have.

The new High Count hasn't done anything relevant since taking the throne. He doesn't make speeches or declarations, and he hasn't even asked the federal council to discuss the formation of a new cabinet. We need to hire new ministers. The incumbent cabinet ministers were appointed by people who don't even sit in the council anymore, some of whom are even dead. If the High Count likes the cabinet as it is, he can simply say that, but that doesn't seem to be the case since he lies silently, locked up in his palace, probably masturbating to pictures of William Aucott.

The Beluz political scene is dead. If we are to have a sovereign representative, it needs to be someone who:
- brings attention to Beluzia
- is competent of maintaining support of the 5 counties
- can execute the normal duties
- doesn't assume he has more authority than he really does

My grandfather, one of the 2 founding fathers of the union, was known for respecting the independence of each county. The 5 counties come together to make up the union, not the other way around, where a spoilt brat "fairly" rigs the elections then assumes complete authority over the union and forces the counties to worship him. We have the right to secede!

The Forstevs say we "have no right to complain" but according to the law, that is false. They should try to understand something before opening their mouths about it, or we may stop putting effort into understanding stupidity before militantly suppressing it.

Wodeham wrote:Given the recent charges given by the Honorable Count, I feel I must respond.

Firstly, when Kristov III says that "we're not afraid to send troops to Bailon," the traditional Stanton stronghold, it is quite clear that is not merely exercising his peaceful rights. I believe any observer would agree that such horrific willingness to attack other Beluzians is a sign of deep mental disturbance. I would prefer an inactive HIgh Count to a menacing one.

Secondly, my cabinet is an interim composition while I negotiate for a new partner. At the present time, a new cabinet can unfortunately not be formed, leaving Beluzia in a vulnerable state. I have called for early elections to remedy this grave matter.

Thirdly, I must reiterate that the Kristovs have an obligation to maintain a certain level of decency in our political discourse. We must not descend into chaos.

Wodeham still speaks?

Kristov III responds to Susan Wodeham:
First of all, Susan Wodeham is not a member of the federal council (She cannot be, because nobles are not allowed in the Beluz cabinet, unless they give up their nobility). She is not a noble, and therefore this matter is above her. Her position only exists in a unified Beluzia. Beluzia is very federalised, so every county has its own government that can do quite well without the federal cabinet.

I will still publicly address her concerns as a response to her speech.

Bailon is not the "traditional Stanton stronghold" as she claims. The traditional Stanton stronghold is Negunia. Also, militarism has been a part of Beluz culture. The fear of a coup has existed after almost every election, regardless of who wins. We also never said we would attack anyone. Sending our troops to Bailon would be a sign of military independence for the mainland, and incorporating Bailon in our 4/5 boycott would make it a 5/5 boycott, and the throne would be de facto vacant, as it is now, but we want to be fair.

The cabinet is a matter of the federal council. As Miss Wodeham isn't a member of the federal council, she should wait until her respective representatives in the council speak. You would never find members of the Beluz Liberal Socialist Party jumping into the council to give directions on what the cabinet should be like. That is a matter for the High Count, and other members of the council to discuss.

We, the Karavs (as I believe she was trying to mention us) actually do not "have an obligation to maintain a certain level of decency" and to be frank, no-one does. It's straight up, where everyone is frank. Reality is reality, and we have no time for pointless formalities. Formalities are observed in ceremonial proceedings, but outside of that, it's all unnecessary.

She is afraid of chaos? Chaos already exists; look who is on the throne. Beluzia needs a strong figure who commands power, not a lazy brat who does nothing all day. My father spent his days working on the farm while he was the High Count. He fought in the most recent civil conflicts when the Blue Coalition tried to take over the mainland by force. We won the mainland through referenda; we are only enforcing the people's mandate.

Prime Minister Susan Wodeham Steps Down

After Edward Forstev III's ascendancy to the seat of High Count, a government crisis soon developed. Due to difficulties with negotiations, the cabinet was in a state of decay, with members being loyal to the defunct House Barbossa -- several had even died. Despite the best efforts of Wodeham and Forstev working in tandem, a Wodeham-led cabinet was impossible to form either with the Karav Dynasty or House Stanton. Eventually, Wodeham decided that, for the interests of the country, it was best that she stepped down in order to allow Forstev to forge a three-way Karav-Stanton-Forstev coalition. Forstev has denied that he pressured her into this course of action, saying that "it was her decision, and one I believe was unfortunate but necessary and proper." Wodeham stated that her time as Prime Minister was some of her best, and that she would be still active outside of the government in the Liberal Republican Party.

The current Forstev front candidate for Prime Minister is Emily Hull, current Minister of Foreign Affairs and prominent member in the LRP's General Council.

Edward Forstev III ill

The current patriarch of House Forstev, now reaching an advanced age, has reportedly fallen ill. This will come as no surprise to those who have watched the House's gradual decline from public confidence and the Count's increasing isolation.

The announcement was delivered earlier today by Rebecca Forstev. Although Edward's daughter asserted that the nature of the illness was not quite known, she confirmed that Edward Forstev will be withdrawing further from public life in order to seek treatment. When asked whether the former High Count was preparing to step down, Rebecca Forstev denied it, saying "he still has many strong years as a leader."

Should Forstev III choose to step down, Rebecca Forstev would ascend to the status of House leader. Given the reported animosity between Rebecca Forstev and Emily Hull, leader of the LRP, there is no doubt that Rebecca's matriarchy would mean a radical change for House Forstev.

The slightly older former Prime Minister Susan Wodeham formally offered her condolences to the Forstev family.

3372: Count Edward Forstev III dies

At 2:34 this evening, Count Edward Forstev III died in his hospital bed. House Forstev has issued a request for a national day of mourning, and many Forstev supporters are planning on doing so privately.

Forstev III's daughter, the pro-Society Rebecca, is scheduled to assume leadership of House Forstev tomorrow morning to ensure continuity.

Nation Mourns Edward's Death

Beluzia now mourns the death of Edward III, of Forstev family. The family funded the People's Great Society of Hope, a very influential movement that has existed in Beluzia before the aristocratic era.

While politically inactive until recently, they are believed to have had ties with Keymon's Bushnell family. They possibly influenced the Karavs to offer the Bushnells refuge in Beluzia. Celeste Arinidi-DeKarav will visit House Forstev to pay respects to the former High Count and patriarch of his family.

Rebecca Forstev Declares a "New Revolution"

Evoking similar imagery as her original predecessors, Rebecca Forstev delivered a strong -- and, to some, disturbing -- address to a House Forstev/Society conference. (Notably, the Liberal Republican Party was denied entry -- a fact decried by Emily Hull as a "sad affair.") Forstev's speech declared a "New Revolution" in Beluzian society and government, and involves a six-point plan to "restore Beluzia to glory."

Excerpt:
As I stand before you, our once-great nation of Beluzia has descended into a state of bickering and decadence. We have lost our way, our spirit. We have followed the path of those who submit to worldly pleasures and internationalist edicts. We no longer respect life, purity, or the land. Beluzia is sick, and we have the cure in our hands.Let us not hesitate to administer it, even if the patient objects.

"6 Points of Virtue:"
1. Restore religion and spirituality to the center of Beluzian life. Discard these putrid trappings of materialism.
2. Protect the wild as sacred. Nature is to Beluzia as a heart is to a person.
3. Place trust in Beluzian supremacy. No longer will we bow to the will of false, foreign kings.
4. Tear down the HIgh County in its present form as an outmoded institution, and replace it with a strong and willful position.
5. Reignite the sustainable economy -- we must neither submit to the industrialists who destroy nature or the environmentalists who undermine Beluzian integrity.
6. Unite Beluzia. The counties need not be destroyed, but they must all follow the same central spirit.

World Conference Centre vandalized

Beluzian police have arrested a Mr. Stanley Hill, who was caught vandalizing the World Conference Centre at 2:00 AM. What would be only an act of boredom has become notable as the political nature of the act has become clear. Mr. Hill, who serves on a regional town branch of the People's Great Society of Hope, had begun the process of spray-painting a figure of Kristov III being murdered with a small bomb when he was caught. The words "FREE BELUZIA" stand out beneath the representation.

Rebecca Forstev has issued a brief statement to the press, saying that while House Forstev could not condone violence against Kristov III, Mr. Hill is nevertheless "a hero worthy of our respect.

Domestic agencies will proceed to investigate any threat to either the World Conference Centre or Kristov III's life.

Big Guns

The sight of heavily-armed Karav soldiers is now common in the streets of Port Tackstov and Karavshire. Some have taken up post at train stations in Parlos Decina. This seems to be as a result of anti-Karav sentiment suspected from the strange incident involving Stanley Hill. No-one is sure whether the soldiers are taking security measures, or just making a statement.

"I don't listen to Rebecca speaking," said Kristov III, "she needs to get a little more mature before I can take her seriously."

Karav supporters describe Rebecca Forstev as a radical theocrat who wants to take away their rights. The Karavs are known for being secular and federalist, and Rebecca's father was known for being unitarist, but not as socially conservative as his daughter.

A new alliance has been founded - the "Denstov Coalition" marks the friendship between Kristov DeKarav III, and Dennis Williams. Dennis' father, Nick, was known to be Kristov I's friend and Kristov II's mentor. He became politically inactive after falling ill, and his son has risen out of the shadows years later to make alliance with Kristov III. Together, both families have a supermajority in the federal council. They have 67 seats of the 100. The High Count, Kristov III, has 1 seat, the rest of the Karav Dynasty has 25 seats, and the Williams Family has 41 seats. They also control all the counties.

Despite Beluzia's increasing political stability over the past few years, political analysts suspect that the Forstevs and the Karavs may kick off in a dispute eventually. The Stantons have made friends with the Karavs and Williams - something no-one expected - which contributed to the peaceful internal status of Beluzia.

Things are not far from changing, experts say. Karav soldiers will continue to use their big guns to secure their leader's life, and indirectly his political power. No-one is sure whether they should be afraid of the physical presence of the soldiers, or the mental statement that they're trying to make.
