Over twenty years since the end of the Third Solentian Civil War
June 5282An citizen has penned a few snippets on his blog covering of some key events since January 5260 and the
signing of the Treaty of Oda, which ended the Third Solentian Civil War and introduced a new Republican constitution.
Treaty of OdaIn
July 5257 a ceasefire was agreed in Solentia, although it wasn’t until
March 5259 that a framework was agreed for bringing about an end to the civil war, which then led to the signing of the Treaty of Oda in January 5260. The Treaty itself reintroduced the Armadi Republic with a new constitution and also provided for power sharing between the warring factions who united to form the
United Ahmadi Party.
General Noomylay Jat, President of the Ahmadi Republic of Solentia 5260-5280The man who was most responsible for the ending of the conflict was General Noomylay Jat. In 5260 he was only in his early forties, yet the gifted soldier had emerged as the single most important leader in the Solentian National Defence Forces. He became a popular figure in pro-government circles after he
masterminded the relief of the city of Gora in 5153. After the fall of the capital Oda in 5255 he
became the leader of anti Jaish-e Ahmadi forces, focusing on diplomacy to bring
Istalia into the conflict. His diplomacy was successful and following Istalian intervention General Jat led the SNDF in a
series of successful offensives that finally brought Jaish-e Ahmad to the negotiating table.
General Jat had led the Solentian National Defence Forces during the Civil War, and led negotiations leading to the Treaty of OdaWith the formation of a united governing alliance General Jat became the natural choice to lead Solentia. He was supported by the SNDF and their allies in Istalia and other pro-government factions, while also having won the respect of opposition Jaish-e Ahmad fighters.
Many have argued that as a President General Jat was a disappointment, however for 20 years he held Solentia together and oversaw efforts to rebuild the country and prevent further outbreaks of violence. After his death in earl 5280 many of his supporters left the United Ahmadi Alliance to join the
United Secular Party.
Solentian RefugeesThe civil war generated a
huge refugee crisis affecting neighbouring Kafuristan, Kalopia and Istalia. At the end of the conflict, the Sekowan Foreign Affairs Minister Seko Leuseur Yoshiformed the
Eastern Majatra Humanitarian Crisis joint response which aimed to alleviate the suffering of refugees and help them return to their homes in Solentia. Beiteynu was also a
key player in supporting logistic efforts to aid refugees.Potentially millions of Solentians are believed to have sort refuge outside of Solentia during and after the Civil WarAlthough many refugees returned to Solentia, a Solentia diaspora has developed in Kafuristan and Istalia as well as far away as Sekowo.
Government CorruptionMuch economic aid was squandered with endemic corruption. Although many Solentian politicians, particularly those linked to Jaish-e Ahmad led anti-corruption efforts, corruption had remained a serious problem blighting the lifes of ordinary Solentians.
Corruption has led to inflation and street markets selling local and foreign currencies
