Tribal forces advance on the capital Oda

December 3135

Tribal forces from the United Ahmadi Salvation Front (UASF) have made major gains across Saspian Province in northern Solentia, severing ground lines of communication between the capital and the border with Kafuristan. After 13 years of civil war, the once all powerful UASF has successfully united a number of Solentian factions and once again has seized control of swathes of Solentia.

Background

The United Ahmadi Salvation Front governed the Republic of Solentia between 5110 and 5122 before the Solentia descended into its current civil war. The movement, formerly headed by General General Azmaray Tauqi, consisted of technocrats from the civil service and former members of the Solentian Armed Forces, aligned with members of the business elites, tribal leaders, Israeist religious leaders and feudal warlords. However, since the breakout of the current civil war in 5122, Kafuri intervention in 5126 and the death of General Tauqi in 5127, the remnants of the UASF retreated to more peripheral strongholds and largely gave up control of urban areas and northern Solentia.

However, under the inspired leadership of Mullah Tawas Shinwari, the UASF has conducted a recruitment campaign drawing in various disaffected tribal groups, warlord militias and remnants of the Solentian Armed Forces, united under a programme of implement Israeist Sharia Law and removing Kafuristani influence from Solentia.

Tribal support

The most important gains by the UASF have been from various tribal groups around Solentia. Under Solentian law power and authority is in many areas widely delegated to the tribes. These Tribal Laws recognised the fact that large parts of Solentia have existed outside of central government control for generations. It also ensures that the male population is largely heavily armed and willing to fight for tribal honour, with the blood feud representing a key social tradition.

In the face on this onslaught various militia groups have melted away from key urban areas in the face of the UASF advance. In the far north of Solentia various Abadi tribes, with Kafuri advisors have retreated to strongholds and border positions, although likely ensuring that the capital Oda will fall to the UASF in the next few weeks.

Bumper Opium Crop in Solentia

January 5136

Less than a decade after a targeted attempt by Kafuristan to destroy opium poppy crops production in Solentia, international observers of narcotics facilitation have briefed public bodies that opium production is back to pre-5126 levels.

Across southern and eastern Solentia the hardy poppy crop has thrived safe from northern militias linked to Kafuristan. Profits from production have enriched many feudal landowners as well as having provided income to millions of Solentian peasants. It is also likely that the United Ahmadi Salvation Front has gained a cut of profits through taxes implemented in areas under its control. Solentian ports have largely functioned as key nodes for smugglers through the last decade and it is likely that facilitation of opium from Solentia to Kalistan has continued apace, further enhancing profits for Solentian smugglers.

Solentian Refugee Crisis

December 5136

The humanitarian crisis in Solentia has been further exacerbated with outbreaks of disease in some refugee camps inside the country. For the past fifteen years hundreds of thousands of Solentians have left the country and now reside as refugees in neighbouring Kafuristan, Istalia and Kalopia. It is likely there are also several million more internally dislocated person who would like to get out of the country but are unable to following the surge in fighting in the last year.

UASF pull back from northern front and focus on capital city

December 5136

As the summer fighting season transitions into 5137, the UASF have pulled back fighters from the northern fronts adjacent to the border with Kafuristan to focus on securing the Solentian capital Oda. UASF fighters failed to secure the capital before the onset of winter in May 5136, allowing a respite to the capital cities plucky defenders.

Journalists on the ground have suggested that tens of thousands of fighters loyal to the UASF. It has also been reported although verified that Ahmadi extremists associated with known terrorist groups have been providing training and manpower to support the UASF offensive. On the other side the capital is defending by a rag tag band of local militia groups, although as a legacy of the collapse Solentian Armed Forces the defenders of the capital have artillery and other weapon systems that are largely unavailable to the poorly equipped UASF fighters.

Port authorities in Eastern Solentia report increased profits

January 5137

Despite the chaos across much of the country, coastal regions continue to function more effectively. The Solentian Port Authority has reported bumper profits with an increasing outflow of some agricultural products and an increase of weapons imports and luxury items. It continues to highlight that some parts of Solentia function better than others and the wealthier coastal regions continue to thrive despite, or perhaps because of, the lack of central government.

Capital Oda Falls to UASF Militants

August 5137

Various media outlets have reported that the UASF have taken the capital of Solentia after a siege lasting almost nine months. Unverified footage has suggested UASF fighters are inside the Presidential Palace. Mullah Tawas Shinwari, the leader of the UASF is reported to be on his way to Oda, with key UASF spokesmen having declared the formation of the Ahmadi Emirate of Solentia.

The UASF victory came after the start of a new offensive at the end of the Solentian winter. With new arms provided by Deltarians arms suppliers the UASF were able to rapidly overwhelm the city's beleaguered defenders. Mullah Shinwari has reached out to former opponents offering them amnesty in return for laying down their weapons.

UASF Overtures to Abadi Opposition

Following the fall of the capital a UASF spokesman has stated that legacy laws devolving power to tribal bodies apply to all Ahmadi tribal groups, including the Abadi tribes of northern Solentia. The spokesman went on to add that ultimately Shariah and Solentiwali Tribal customs would dictate the law in Solentia and that the Abadis would be free to follow their traditions. The spokesman concluded that the new UASF government would legislate to restore peace to Solentia.

Business Elites Offer Support to New Solentian Government

December 5137

As the United Ahmadi Salvation Front set down to the task of providing governance, members of Solentians remaining business elites have been subject to a charm offensive by the UASF Finance Minister Sangar Mengal. Mengal has promised new opportunities for businesses as the UASF works to end over 15 years of anarchy in the country;

Sangar Mengal wrote:Two years ago you could not move a consignment of oranges from rural areas in Solentia to the ports on our eastern coast without paying dozens of tolls to warlords or run the risk of bandits who would raid your vehicle and murder your driver. Now, under the rule of the Salvation Front the roads are clear once more and goods can move around the country with paying illegal tolls to scum warlords. This is a new era for
