Workers Party Victory
The Workers Party has won the 4906-4907 election in a massive landslide, beating the small and disorganised opposition and grabbed all 300 seats in Vouli ton Kalopaion(Parliament the Kalopaion). The party ran on a campaign of more freedoms to the people, reforms in the economy and increase in the standard of living for the working class. The new Prothipourgos and party chairman, Antonis Manelis has expressed great optimism for the country's future, now that the Workers Party is in charge. Mr Menelis stated to the press,
We at the Workers Party, have great plans for this great country. People will have greater freedoms, more and better jobs and importantly equality for all people. This is our plan for Kalopia.

Major Reforms under Way
In keeping with the Party's promises, some major reforms have already been proposed in the Vouli. These first reforms include an Adoption Reform which will allow all couples to adopt and a Forced Marriage Reform which will ban the practice. Many members of the Vouli have told us this is only the beginning of many reforms that they intend to pass.

What will Kalopia's Future Look Like?
Seeing what the party had promised to voters and what they are passing in the Vouli, we have decided to take a look at what the country's future might look like. Clearly more freedoms to the ordinary person is high on the agenda, however for economy or foreign affairs it remains to be seen. For now though the future looks bright for Kaopia.

More Reforms
The Workers Party has added more reforms to the already long list of reforms that they have passed since coming to power. These include a pension reform for religious ministers, foreign missionary act and a change in tree plantation policy.

End of Kalopian Internet
By far the biggest change to be passed by the Workers Party is an end of Kalopia's independent internet, which is separate from the rest of Terra's internet and heavily censored by the Government. Now information will be allowed to freely enter the country and be available to all.

Government to Pass Controversial Bills
Two controversial bills have been put to a vote in the Vouli ton Kalopaion. These bills are the Abolishment of the National Service and the Nationalisation of the Arms Industry. While the majority of representatives from the Workers Party have supported these bills, the Military and Arms Companies have called these bills as unnecessary and unfair. The Abolishment of the National Service Bill will end mandatory service in the military or a lesser paid term of civilian national service. The reasons cited for this change are that this in unneeded, costly and hamper the freedoms of people to pursue a career where they wish to. The Nationalisation of the Arms Industry will in privatization in the sector and force the sales of arms to close allies only. Both the Military and Arms Companies have said the Government is overstepping and has no right to pass these bills, the Military has also called on voters to vote out the Workers Party in the next election.

New Taxes
The Government has launched it's first phase of budget reforms, starting with taxes. The Company Tax is being raised from 6% to 15%, with the reasoning that since companies make the most money they should pay more and contribute more to society. The tax on essential goods is being eliminated and the luxury goods tax is decreased to 10% from 12%. The income tax system has also been reformed, with it being lowered for the poor and increased for the rich.

The second phase appears to be fixing the government's spending.

New Government Budget
The Government's new budget has been released. The clear goal of this new budget is to increase Health, Social and Education spending. Spending in Health and Social Services has risen to 20,000,000,000 WAN and Education will be increased by 30,000,000,000 WAN. To fund this budget increase, Military spending will be cut by half to just 50,000,000,000 WAN. Other cuts are to be made to Science, Technology, Environment and Tourism. The reasons for this budget change are to raise people out of poverty, increase education to the poor and to spend the money on people who need.

Military Unhappy
The Military has released a statement showing their discontent with the Workers Party and their policies. Their discontent stems from the Abolishment of National Service, the Nationalisation of the Arms Industry and the now massive budget cut to military spending. The statement called an opposition party to challenge the Workers Party and said that the party didn't represent the will of the people.

Army Marches on Helios
We have just received reports, that there may be a possible military coup occurring in the capital, Helios. Communication from inside the city has been cut and we have no information of what is happening in Helios. Reports have come in of people seeing armed convoys heading to Helios under the cover of night and there have been some reports of gunfire coming from inside the city, though these remain unconfirmed. Most suspect a military coup as they were the most unhappy with the election results from last month which returned the Workers Party to all seats in the Vouli ton Kalopaion. The military had already talked about opposing but a launching a coup could destabilise the country. We will keep you informed as more info comes in.

Update on Helios
We have received more information on the situation in the Capital. The military has launched a coup, but we still aren't sure whether it was successful. Communications with those inside the city remain blocked and our reporters were stopped outside the city at a military checkpoint. Gunshots were heard coming from inside the city. There still has been no statement from the Military saying anything. Whatever is happening in Helios, they clearly don't want the public to know about it. We will keep you informed as more info comes in.

Strikes Break Out
During the night, a radio broadcast from inside Helios was aired throughout the country, saying,
This is Manelis. The Military has tried to overthrow the elected government of Kalopia. This cannot be allowed to happen. I call on all workers and people who support the Syndicalist cause to go on a general strike. Paralyse the country. Bring everything to a standstill, end the coup. If the people are seen united, then this coup will fail.

It appears that this message was received as all major trade unions have declared a general strike in opposition to the coup. Strikers have swapped the streets of every major city in the country, waving the red banner of Syndicalism. Due to the small military presence outside the Capital, clashes with between the Military and Strikers haven't yet occurred but are expect to rise.

In an answer to the broadcast, the Military has officially announced the coup, saying
It is clear that the current Government does have the interests of the people in mind and do not care for the country. We have therefore decided to overthrow this Government. Should the Strikers continue we will be forced to deal with them by any means necessary.

Already calls have started online to march on Helios and free the possibly trapped Government Ministers and end the coup.

The nation's industry and service sectors have been crippled and in many cities even the most vital of services have stopped. The leader of the largest union, the National Union for the Worker, said in a statement released to the press
If this strike is to end, then our one demand must be met. The military is leave Helios and allow the elected government govern the country. We do not want a military dictatorship, we want the Workers Party.

Strikers get Violent
Strikes in several cities have turned violent this evening. This occurred after the army deployed in Kursi fired warning shots at protesters, in return protesters threw rocks and molotov cocktails at the troops. The troops opened fire killing 16 protesters. This set off a huge wave of violence against any military official found by strikers. Radio broadcasts from inside Helios have condemned the violence, but continue calls to resist. News of the Government Ministers remains unclear, but Now many strikers are calling for a march on Helios peaceful or otherwise.

Martial Law Declared
In light of the increasing violence, the new National Military Council for the Stability of Kalopia has imposed martial law throughout the entire country and gave soldiers the order to shoot at strikers if necessary. It remains o be seen if this will stop the violence or not.

Strikers March on Helios
A large group of strikers dubbed "The Workers Army" marched on Helios today. Most of the marchers are unarmed, but many have brought a weapon with them. When asked what they intended to do, their leader simply answered,
To free the Government

The marchers marched to the outskirts and have been met by troops and tanks of the Military Council. As of now, there hasn't been any outbursts of violence by either side. But that could change. We will keep you informed.

Breaking News
Workers Army storms Capital
In the early hours of this morning, the Workers Army attacked the Military positions on the outskirts of Helios, taking them without much of a fight. The surprise of such an attack clearly caught the Military off guard, as the Military had then proceeded to retreat to the center of the Capital. The fighting lasted several hours, grinding through most of the day, but in the end the spirit of the Workers Army was too strong. Reduced to fighting in the government buildings and with Government Ministers now freed by the WA, the Military Council surrendered, bring an end to the coup and restoring the elected government to its position.

Once the news of the fall of Helios spread, strikers celebrated and trade unions promised to end the strike and return to work. The government released a statement, calling for all violence to end and that a trial was to be held for the leaders of the coup. Their fates remain to be seen.
