Second Indecisive Election in a Row:
Reelection for Socialist President Hibbert
Neo-Conservatives become the Largest Party
Cabinet Formation Discussions Under Way
Likely Republican - Socialist Deal
Block Bloc Threatens Government Shutdown if they aren't in Cabinet
Revolutionary Anarcho-communist Party expelled from Left Bloc
Socialists Reject Block Bloc Proposals
Election Fails to resolve Hung-Congress
This election was called to bring stability to the country and allow the formation of a cabinet, however it has done anything but that.
The Presidential election results were quite interesting, in the first round the Neo-Conservative Party got the most votes, followed by the Secularist, Socialist Party of Baltusia. The latter of which won by 6% in the second round. It seems that what gave the socialists an advantage was their unity, as they were the only candidate with endorsements from any other party, the Socialists had fairly easy sailing through to the second round of voting. For a long while the left wing in Baltusia was seen as unorganised and ineffective but now they seem to be the only bloc in congress which is in any way organised.
This election was primarily called to fix the difficulties in forming a cabinet, however now that it has occurred a second time, congresspeople are beginning to accept that this may be the new reality for politics in Baltusia. It is likely that the socialist alliance will seek to form an agreement with the Working Class Party and the Republican Party.
It was a good election for the Socialist Alliance, while they didn't get an outright majority, they managed to retain the Presidency and with their newest member in the Revolutionary Anarcho-communist Party, they have become the largest bloc in Congress. This combined with their holding the Presidency means that they will almost certainly all be in the cabinet, if one can be agreed.
The right wing in Baltusia seems to be hopelessly divided, for a while it seemed to be that that description could have been applied to the left (with two rival left-wing alliances). However with the state of the right in Baltusia that would not be fair. Every single right wing party ran their own candidate for President, which led to only one getting through to the second round of voting (the Neo-Conservative party). What is advertised as the right-wing alliance in Baltusia, the Capitalist Alliance, is in an extremely uncertain state. No party except for the Materialist Party is technically a full member however no party has been blocked from joining and thus if the Republicans and the Materialists are in any sort of a formal alliance is thrown into question. As can be implied above they did not run a joint presidential candidate.
The real losers in this election were undoubtedly the Left Wing Workers Party, they expelled the Revolutionary Anarcho-communist Party because: "The left party bloc doesn't tolerate fence sitters and grandstanders that flop to the current side with the most power. " This followed their endorsement of the Secularist, Socialist Party of Baltusia for the President however they said that that specific issue was not the reason. This makes the Left Bloc a single-party alliance and the smallest bloc of parties and smaller than every party not affiliated with an alliance. While they are likely to be involved in any cabinet arrangement, given that they are the most centrist of the left-wing parties who alone don't have a majority, they have little hope of doing well in Presidential elections in the future. It is likely that their short term fate will be as a centrist third party who will have a position in government for as long as the indecisive election results last.
It was a good election result for the Neo-Conservative party, who have become the largest party in Congress by some 56 seats. Immediately after the election result the Block Bloc proposed a cabinet coalition between them, the SSPB, the Republicans, and the Neocons. They threatened government shutdown if Congress refused to pass it, however they seem to not have necessary seats to do so. The SSPB have voted no to it so it will not pass.
