Secretary Ortobbya calls for a bipartisan deal to oppose N-4468 Budget Bill and block Darklight's aspirations

Image
Cecily Ortobbya gave an official reading of the Dossier issued by the Department of Finance to the House.

Johnston, D.D.
Published May 1st, 4469

Exactly seven months have passed since the UDP:PLCA's Secretary of Environment and Tourism, Maya Darklight, proposed her ambitious budget proposal to the House of Representatives of Baltusia, and the Official Dossier and Report from the Department of Finance, lead by Cecily Ortobbya, arrived early this morning to the Congress Palace in Johnston. The result was a harsh negative, as the Report concluded advising the State to not approve the budget. "A waste of money", is what Secretary Ortobbya called this proposal, stating that there was "absolutely no study behind this bill".
"We share (the original goal of preserving the environment), but it would be negligent of us to allow this bill to move through".

The DOF-N-4467-D (Department of Finance Dossier's official name) is being studied by all the House Members before the debate stage of the bill concludes. Before leaving Sec. Ortobbya was clear to state her personal opinion by saying that "this bill should never see the Congress Floor".

"Cannagate": Green-Milk Coop's bold plan of commercializing Cannabis Milk has the Food Department on the watch

Blackwood, Westbrook
May 5th, 4469

It hasn't been a great week for the Darklights in Johnston. Sarah-Rafaelle Darklight, Secretary of Food and Agriculture, was recently caught in a cannabis Scandal, the Johnston Post reported. Beyond the repercussions the Secretary of State may get, it's also worth a thoght: how is the Green-Milk Coop, and other vegetal milks going to affect the Milk Industry of Baltusia? According to the Secretary of Trade and Industries, Marionne Tousseau, "this appearance of "new milks" are a huge revolution to the market, which would hopefully revitalize it" yet she cautions that "we must protect our local farmers and milk producers, as they're essential to our northwestern regions' economy".

How was Green-Milk Coop green lighted, if Cannabis plantations are illegal? , apparently Cannabis Milk is made from Cannabis Seeds and not the plant itself, which wouldn't be prohibited by our legislation. The Baltusian Economist tried to contact the Secretary of Justice to understand the official Government's opinion on the matter, yet we got no answers.

Libertarians vow to oppose N-4468 Budget bill while pushing for Free Trade

After having suffered a major setback during the last elections the Libertarian Party has decided to oppose N-4468 as purposed by The PLCA on the grounds that such a bill would waste the taxpayers money and increase deficit spending while doing little in the way of any good for the nation. In other news, Libertarians in congress have purposed a new bill regarding free trade something the party is well known for advocating despite frequent opposition from both left and right. It is not yet certain as to whether it will pass or be shot down by the political establishment.

Work impossible say Maya darklight

The secretary of environment, Maya Darklight dont know how she's going to accomplish her mission. She said her financials ressources are way too limited to succeed. As the environment minister does not have enough to establish the recycling facilties, according to her evalutaion. a few month ago, her demand for increasing the funds of the department of environment where meet with a big no.

Apparently. Spending money to protect the environment is wasted money. Investing money to develop our nations recycling programs is also wasted. And I am not even going to talk about the money we have to spend to establish the Hunting and fishery, because that's wasted money too. Yeah apparently. Hunters will know, by magic, what's the perfect number of animals they have the right to hunt each years. So, there is no way we'Ll be able to to respond the recents demand for funds that we have received. because its a waste of money they say. The minister of environment only have 7 500 000 000 BLD in hand, and sadly. the spending we have to do to establish recyc-Baltusia, since it would be illegal to not spent this money as we are ordered by the congress, would cost more then 25 000 000 000 BLD. The cost of operations are not high, its just that we start with nothing, and we have to build it up. so Sorry, but we can't do miracles and wonder. So, i guess we are going to be illegal for some times. I don't think the other parties share our goals regarding the environment, we are not aiming to preserve it, our aim is to improve it. And when we work on that, we can't do an Half-job to save money, we must go all in...

Darklight Double down on funding

Baltusia environment minister has double down on her requests, she now request the congress to gives her around 20 000 000 000 BLD. She say her departement need this money to fund the construction of recycling facilities across the nation.

No, effort should be spared to protect the environment, we need a plan to recycling Cardboard, one to recycling glass, one to recycle metal and we can't mix them. We should never mix glass and Cardboard or Glass and metal, Entreprise that ask for metal do not want glasses in their components. Also, we need to realise that we have big cities, and so we cannot serve by offering a small plan, we need an adequate plan for our population. Our plan is to make every single household in Baltusia have access to a Bin for each type of recyclable metarials. after that we'll begin to worry about making sure resident put their glass waste in their Glass bin and their metal waste in their metal Bins, and we'll be able to worry about what type of fines, those who do not respect the rules could face, but right now. We need to start somewhere and that is where we should start.

Sweetwater Tapped as National Campaign Chairman

Image
Senator Sweetwater at a Press Conference

One of the Republican Party's most prolific Senators, Julian Sweetwater of Attano, has been confirmed to be leading the Republican Party's National Campaign going into the 4472 elections the Johnston Post has learned. Upon the breaking of the story Senator Sweetwater gave a short press conference on the matter.

When I was contacted by the Republican National Committee to Chair our Party's election going into the next cycle at first I thought they were out of their mind. But it has become clear from the first year and a half of the Fairnsworth Administration we have a dysfunctional Congress and that clearly the Democrats have little to no clue what to do with their own Majority. They control both Houses and Blue House and yet have nothing of note done and ahve open Cabinet fights within their own Party on how to accomplish anything for this nation. I would be admonishing my duty and my office if I didn't step up to help coordinate Republican efforts to return common sense and stability to Congress and make sure that the Democrats don't have another four years to either muck it up, or do nothing with a majority they clear have no idea what to do.

I have reached out to my colleagues in the Nationalist Caucus and the Libertarian Party to ensure we provide a united front against the leftists that would seek to undermine our Republic and to ensure we put the best candidate forward in the Republican Primaries for President and we have the best damn slate going against the Democrats in the House and Senate.

Senator Sweetwater is one of the most senior Senators in the Senate, and more importantly serves on the all important Senate Oversight Committees for Intelligence, the Armed Forces and Foreign Affairs, making him one of the best connected and people consider competent Senators the Republicans have. He was elected originally as a member of the Evangelical Caucus before leading a minor revolt with their rebranding merely into the Conservative Caucus, to offer a bigger tent for members that are neither hard Nationalists or wish to run under the Libertarian banner.

Senator Sweetwater was one of the most vocal critics of Richard Dangerfield splitting the Libertarians from the main Republican Party and is known to hope to bring them back under the fold, hoping that his national campaign strategy, will prove that the Republicans are far stronger when they are united. One of his closest friends in the Senate, Charles Pickings from New Egelion, Republicans Senate Minority Deputy Whip, the third highest ranking Republican in the Senate, is known to have "great confidence that Julian will get the job done."

Libertarians march oncemore under the banner of The Republican Party

This Morning delegates from the Libertarian Party under the leadership of party veteran Richard Coolidge announced in statement released to the public that the Libertarians would oncemore commit themselves to the Republican Party after roughly 12 years as a third party. Coolidge, 73 is quoted as saying this -

"Ladies and Gentlemen of The Libertarian Party, Twelve years ago, we commited ourselves to forming a distinct third party dedicated solely to the defense of Individual Rights, Private Property, and Free
Enterprise and under my leadership contributed to the peace and prosperity of our noble Republic but alas in today's political climate Baltusia is suffering like a cancer patient on the highway to hell and you might ask yourselves why. Baltusia is suffering because the red menace is here and in power destroying piece by piece all that is right and well with this nation of ours. The time has come to join hands with our political allies and be as one while stay true to our beliefs. We will not compromise I promise you that."

In other news, Coolidge has decided not to run again and after this coming election retire from politics in order to return to his native Westbrook.

Yugi Green Annonce the PLCA will give a chance to private entreprise and promote a mixed-economy

Today's annonce was made in Moorstown. Invited by the Chamber of commerce to speak about economy, the Senator of the PLCA said his party was not entirely close to free entreprise, but decided to view that as serious Business as opposed as playground. He was invited to precise his view on the economy

Yes, genereally I believe that the state would be better then private entrepreneurs in many areas, because the state would not be motivated by gain alone. Hoverer, I am not saying that entrepreneurs are soulless monsters, whose only goal in their life would be to sit on a enermous pile of money and laugh at the miserable world bellow us. You are human, and so you are free to make good choice or bad choice, and we can't be certain that private entreprise will always make the good choice. You can choose to view free entreprise as a free organisation, but we view them as a small dictatorship, where there is one person or a small group in position of autority and whose going to decision without any other balanced then other small dictatorship. That is what we hope to change. We need to be certain that such organisation have respect for the consummers and have respect for the environment, and we can't do by invoking the spirit of free market. Like I said, since is possible for private entrepreneurs, we are always going to make a place for private business.

The libertarian recently branded us as a Red Menace, we can assure you that is not us, for we would not be open the rights of homosexuals, nor be open to polygamists, and we would not open to medias. the libertarian are imaginating a REd scare to put fear inside people.

UDP Flounders on Educational Reform Act of 4469, faces division within party over communist wings
Johnston, D.D., August 23rd, 4470

JOHNSTON - Boasted as one of the key campaign promises of the Farnsworth Administration, the Educational Reform Act of 4469 was struck down in Congress two months ago, with only three factions of the UDP voting in favor. Dealing a severe blow to the reputation of the Farnsworth Administration, the bill's failure has scrambled fellow Senators and House Reps alike to mobilize and enact necessary reforms.

All the while, this same failure has bolstered the resolve of the Republicans, with Senator Julian Sweetwater of Attano lashing out at the current UDP majority, stating "...Clearly the Democrats have little to no clue what to do with their own majority. The control both houses and the Senate and yet have nothing of note done and have open Cabinet fights within their own Party on how to accomplish anything for this nation."

The party has also had conflicts from within, with a most notable outburst coming from Senator Dave Rockwell in the middle of a vote of a budget allowance to the Department of the Environment, proposed by the Pro-Life Communist Alliance, a faction that has had fellow members of the UDP and the Republicans alike scratching their heads at. Quoted below, the Senator stated that environmental protections and regulations were already in good shape, and funneling more into the Department whilst ignoring other funded agencies would be extremely negligent.

Need we remind the PLCA that our country already enforces strict environmental protections and regulations? The UDP is all for the environment, but this asks to funnel billions of dollars into mandatory recycling efforts, efforts that we feel could simply be accomplished by the private sector, along with moderate regulation of course. This is simply just asking to divert funds from areas which direly need it to something that is already in good shape. We vehemently vote no and encourage the rest of our party to reject this negligent spending.

Senator Rockwell also took to social media to lash out at the Communists, stating that they were "dangerous" in terms of the stability of Baltusian Democracy.

Image

Outside of Congress, Senator Rockwell has been seen rallying for bipartisan support against the Communists, but it is uncertain if these claims are verified.

Secretary of State Grant calls rise of fascism in Kazulia and Luthori "Concerning" for the future of sustained democracy

Image
"It is definitely concerning for the future of sustained peace and democracy within Dovani, when fascism is on the rise in Kazulia."

Johnston, D.D.
Published August 29th, 4470

Speaking at the Presidential Palace press room, Secretary of State Willie "Will" Grant spoke largely about the rise of fascism in both Kazulia and Luthori, calling it "Concerning" for the future of both the continent of Artania and Dovani, in terms of sustained peace and democracy.

While he commended the efforts of democratic-supporting parties, he stated that much more strength would be needed to combat such extremism. Grant has frequently spoken to Baltusia's Ambassador to the World Congress, Sofia Urquhart on this issue. Seven years ago Urquhart successfully lobbied the World Congress for tougher actions on Saridan, who at that time had legalized segregation, and at the time of this publication, still enforces.

"While I support the courageous efforts of democratic supporting parties in Kazulia for standing up to these authoritarians, much more strength is needed in their fight. These fascists will fight tooth and nail to restrict freedom and we must push back. Many of you will ask why we are caring so dearly about a nation that is thousands of miles away from us, and I'll tell you: We believe in democracy, and peace. These people threaten both. It is the noble duty to promote peaceful coexistence and freedom, and that is exactly what we will do."

Speaking briefly on Luthori, Secretary of State Grant's demeanor was much the same. "We also see a rise of authoritarianism and fascism in Artania as well, in Luthori. Once more we see nations that have been stable for years be rocked to their core by these extremist parties. My attitude is much the same, in this regard. If you believe in freedom, fight for it with everything you've got. Block their poisonous ideals at every chance you get. Evil only triumphs when good men do nothing. So people of Luthori, and equally Kazulia—Fight with everything you've got!"

Republicans United Once More

Image
RNC Chairman Senator Julian Sweetwater Leaving a Meeting with former President Coolidge

In possibly his biggest political coup to date, the Republican National Campaign's Chairman, Senator Julian Sweetwater of Annato, has managed to convince the Libertarian Party to merge back with the Republican Party as the Liberty Caucus, providing a united front against a fracturing United Democratic Party, the Johnston Post has learned.

Senator Sweetwater is said to have been in several high level discussion with the Libertarian Leader, former President Richard Coolidge, over the last several months with Sweetwater convincing him that together they stand a significantly better chance, electorally against the UDP as a single cohesive party. This has evidently resonated as the Republican's House and Senate Minority Leaders gladly opened their armed and greeted their Libertarian colleagues back into the fold. This comes as the half point come around on the Farnsworth Administration which even as Sweetwater is succeeding, they are floundering in the House; since they were sworn in two years ago the only major legislative achievement the United Democrats have accomplished was a ban on industrial pesticides, with everything else, including the President's signature legislation the Educational Reform Act being defeated in both the House and the Senate, by a combined 194 to 341, a fairly humiliating defeat for the young President.

This is combined with ongoing infighting in the United Democratic Party itself in the House and Senate which is showing serious fissures with only two years to go to the next election, an election, Sweetwater predicts, will be a referendum on the failed Farnsworth Administration.

It has become increasingly clear over the past two years that the only thing "united" about the United Democratic Party is their name, they have open fight between Cabinet Members and their own Party Members in Congress, and we have yet to hear anything from the President on this matter, as though he's at a loss for what to do. If this is the best the Democrats can offer Baltusians I have serious reservations over whether or they not they should even be allowed to govern and I'm sure the Baltusian voter will respond very positively to our simple message of lower taxes, less government and most important; Unity.

At this juncture it's believes that Senator Sweetwater is setting the stage to offer a single Republican Candidate for the Republican Presidential Primaries for the Party to rally behind and prepare them for the election, with rumors circulating that Sweetwater is in direct talks with former Vice President Wallace Howell, the de-facto leader of the Nationalist Caucus, about getting their ducks in a row, to take on the Democratic machine.

When questioned on the ongoing issues in Congress over the Recyc-Balstusia spending ask, the Senator merely chuckled and could not resist taking another shot at the Farnsworth Administration.

I believe my colleague Senator Pickens has already take that one to rest and it shows from the entirety of the Democratic Party is voting it down in droves. What I find amusing is that clearly the Farnsworth Administration is extremely dysfunctional; when the Environment Secretary couldn't get money from the Treasury for her hair brained scheme she goes behind the back of both the Secretary and the President himself and asks for the money directly from Congress. I wonder how the Secretary of the Treasury and the President would have reacted if it had been to pass that they need to pony up an additional twelve and a half billion additional dollars. Heh, "United" indeed.

Image
Senator Charles Pickens of New Egelion Listening to Secretary Maya Darklight's Testimony in front of the Senate Finance Committee

Sparks were flying in front of the Senate Finance Committee as the Republican Party's ranking Senator on the Committee, Senator Charlies Pickens, listened to testimony from both Senator Yugi Green and Secretary of Environment and Tourism Maya Darklight, before laying in on them on what he called "suspicious math" for the Spending Authorization Bill.

The Bill in question, if passed, would authorize Congress to release 12.5 Billion BLD in funding directly to the Department of Environment and Tourism, for the Secretary's Recyc-Baltusia program and initiative, adding on top of the 7.5 Billion her Department already has. This comes after Treasury Secretary Ortobbya turned down Darklight's funding request when it was presented in the budget two years ago.

Pickens offered the embattled Secretary little quarter calling into question her math, when he pointed out that under the Program, every single cent would need to be invested, and under the Secretary's original assessments would still be short. Secretary Darklight clarified she really only need 19.8 Billion in spending for the program, giving her leeway of 200 million for the operation of her department, something Pickens was significantly alarmed by.

You are admitting that of the twenty billion you will be given, should this Congress approve your Authorization Bill that you will set aside 193,240,000 Dollars for the operations of the Department of Environment and Tourism. Are you openly admitting to this Congress and this Committee in particular that you only need, 2.6% of your total operating budget, that this Congress gives you in annual spending, to physically enforce environment and waste regulations, protect the environment and promote our tourism industry as is part of your mandate. Are you admitting to this Committee, that you only need a fraction of the money currently assigned to you to do your job?

If that's the case, Madam Secretary, why in the dickens are we giving you seven and a half billion dollars in taxpayer money every year, if from the sounds of it, two hundred million will do for all your needs? Again I ask, are you short changing yourself, or are you deliberately lying to this Committee on the needs of your department?

When Darklight tried to throw the blame on the Treasury Secretary and President for not supporting her or giving her an impossible task, Pickens had little sympathy.

As for the issue of the President and the Secretary of the Treasury, if you do not feel supported by the administration, why are you still apart of it? Are you willing to resign your position, or do you plan on staying in a Cabinet that evidently, you do not even get along with?

Shortly after the session ended rumors have circulated that the Environment Secretary tendered her resignation to President Farnsworth, delivering yet another blow to the ever embattled Administration that has struggled to pass even basic legislation since it took office, something the Republicans have been capitalizing on, painting the Farnsworth Blue House, as a highly dysfunctional mess that can not goven it's own party and cabinet, much less the entire country.

The Spending Authorization Bill is still before Congress with voting currently underway with the count being 163 in the House and 37 in the Senate For and 154 in the House and 35 in the Senate Against. Because it is a spending Bill it will require 50% or both Houses to vote in favour of, which absolutely will require the Nationalists to come out in favour of it, something that is not expected with the way the Republicans have become almost universally united against the United Democratic Party. The only wild card is the Socialist Caucus of the UDP which if they come out against the Bill, kills it on the floor without the Nationalist Caucus of the Republicans even needing to involve themselves at all.
