The President of Baltusia, Xavier Pena has appointed George Baker to head the new Baltusian government. Baker's predecessor Miles White stepped down yesterday, and formally handed over the post during a ceremony today.
George Baker (54) is President of Voice 4 Change and current Leader of majority in National Assembly. Baker has experience in negotiating with the trade unions, having undertaken controversial reforms of the 35-hour workweek and the pension system.

The Baltusian Official News Agency reported that Baker is an Anglophile; his wife Penelope Baker, with whom he has 5 children, was born in Albiopolis (Albiland). Ideologically, Baker is being described as a moderate left-leaning member of the conservative V4C party.
Baker had his first experience as a Minister of Trade and Industry while President of Republic was Servino Guzman.

A President Xavier Pena Runs for Re-Election

Rootianville (Athosia) - March 13, 3399 - As President Pena heads to Terrarokka on Saturday to “kick off” his re-election campaign, it seems a curiosity to remember that it has been 30 years since an incumbent president formally “announced” his intent to run for a second term.

For decades, especially in the era before term limits, presidents stoked the suspense about whether they would seek a second term for as long as possible, and in the early part of the republic, several incumbents did step aside after four years years. In the last century, that became less common. Nathan Jardine opted not to run again in 3310, just as Joaquin Soto did in 3356.

Since then, though, it has become unthinkable for presidents to not seek a second term, even as they followed the ritual of pretending they were not necessarily in the race up until the moment they formally entered it, notwithstanding months and even years of extensive preparations. Now whatever veneer of suspense is long gone.
The last president to hold an event officially throwing his hat into the ring for a second term was the first President John Holmes, who made an “announcement speech” in Lindar Valley Province on May. 9, 3297.

If Pena won elections his Prime Minister again will be current Prime Minister George Baker.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 13, 3399 - Rokkanville (Terrarokka)

STATEMENT BY GOVERNOR STJEPAN BENKO

“I am pleased to announce today that I plan to seek reelection for the office of Governor of Terrarokka Province. It has been a privilege to serve the people of Terrarokka over the past 4 years. I am proud of what we have accomplished together. Yet there is more work to do and I look forward to continuing our jobs agenda: creating jobs and more economic opportunities for Terrarokkans, containing the sky cost of health care, expanding broadband and cell service across our province, and investing in our renewable energy future and children’s education. I will continue to focus on these initiatives and will make a more formal announcement of my candidacy around Labor Day.”

Museum of Contemporary Art

April 14, 3399 - Rokkanville (Terrarokka) - The Museum of Contemporary Art, Rokkanville—the largest publicly funded cultural project in last 25 years—it finally opened its doors .

A new building, designed by Balstusian architect Jay Bartlet, has been created to house the museum, which holds collections of Baltusian and foreign works from the 3300s to the present. A spokesperson for the museum told The Baltusian Official News Agency that returning the collection to public display was hampered by cuts in the country’s cultural budget: “Budgets were cut all around Seleya and that’s the main reason we are so delayed with the opening of the new building.”

Despite the delay, the new museum is extensive, covering a total area of 25,000 sq. m. The ambitious project is the first museum to be built in Rokkanville in 75 years years. It could also prove something of a litmus test for the wider region, with contemporary collections in northern Seleya still under-represented. A spokesperson for the institution stated: “We hope that our museum, with its diverse programme, will be the generator of new and fresh cultural life in Rokkanville, Baltusia and the region.”

Governor Stjepan Benko opened museum. Present at the opening were also Prime Minister Baker and Minister of Education, Culture and Sport Ms. Shirly Groves.

Pena Wins Second Term

May 3, 3393 - Rootianville (Athosia)

An elated President Pena claimed a reelection victory yesterday after a tumultuous night of vote counting and a gracious concession by challenger Akaja Lacuna, and he pledged that he would seek to earn the trust of those who did not back him during the long, contentious campaign.

In an explicit appeal to those Baltusian who voted for Lacuna, Pena said: "To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust. A new term is a new opportunity to reach out to the whole nation."
Pena will begin his second term with strengthened majorities in the National Assembly. V4C also kept four out of five Governor's positions.

In next few days Pena should name new Prime Mnister of Federal Republic.

It was expected that Benko would win his re-election campaign as Terrarokka has not had a Social-Liberal governor in nearly 15 years. Benko took office in May 3394.
Benko's challenger, May Cooke, is a businessman and retired Colonel with the Baltusian Army.

Many believes that Benko will probably be a candidate for President of V4C on next regular party elections.
