United Democratic Party achieves clean sweep in snap elections, Social Liberal faction promises reform

"We have done the impossible—We've secured a constitutional majority and reformed our political system. This is a great day for not only Baltusians, but for our country as a whole."

Yet another triumph for the two-party system as the United Democratic Party won a clean sweep in snap elections proposed by the Democratic Party, who mysteriously disbanded their faction. Now the Republicans are the minority in both legislatures of Congress. The first to speak out about what's to come in way of reforms, the Social Liberal faction of the UDP promised stronger environmental protections and pushing for egalitarian reforms, along with a formal assessment of the economy, as the risk of spillover from Valruzia's economic recession looms over the nation.

The people have spoken and their demands have been answered—Our party has triumphed in the snap elections and pushed out two terms of conservative rule. We have done the impossible—We've secured a constitutional majority and reformed our political system. This is a great day not only for not only Baltusians, but for our country as a whole. But this is only the beginning. Ahead of us is a long road of reforms to build a better future for us all. I end with our faction's motto: "Everyone deserves better". Well folks, let's make that message ring true!

A response from the Republican party as to these developments has yet to be seen.

Libertarian Militia formed

As the political landscape makes a leftward turn it is quite fitting that the liberty loving citizens of this great republic should take the necessary steps needs to protect their rights as sovereign individuals and property owners in order to make such protection possible the Libertarian faction of the Republican Party has decided to form a volunteer force. Members must bring their own uniforms, kits, and arms. enrollment in the militia is open to those as young as 16 and those as old as 65.

Secretary Sufijes slams on the table: "the Republican Party can't overrun the Rule of Law with greediness"

Sec. Sufijes at a DOJ Press Conference earlier this morning

Johnston, D.D.
Published February 13, 4462

Secretary of Justice, Carolina Sufijes, is arguably one of the toughest figures in our current cabinet, and surely a strong card for the United Democratic Party. The Socialist lashed out against the Republican Party this morning, after we learned through an official message from the Libertarian faction of the right wing party, the announcement of a "Libertarian Militia", a paramilitary, being formed, as a reaction to the last election results.

Paramilitaries are illegal. That's the Law of the Land. The Republican Party lost the elections, and they have to accept that. They can't overrun the Rule of Law with their greediness.

Sufijes is currently on a meeting with his Defense counterpart, Conner Hernandez, where they will come up with a solution to this, "as peaceful as it can be".

Before the Press Conference was over, Sufijes stated her last words about this issue:
This will not be unpunished. We cannot afford a precedent where Political Parties break the law, in the most violent way, and let them get away with it. We still have to hear from the President, but the State will take actions against the Republican Party, and we will not rest until they're punished.

Recently re-elected Secretary of State Orlando Francis champions meeting with Valruzian president Walenty Batko, calling it "A step in the right direction"
Johnston, D.D., June 11th, 4461 (OOC: Postdated)

JOHNSTON - Success today after the close of negotiations between Secretary of State Francis and the Valruzian President Walenty Batko. The two agreed to a diplomatic and military alliance simply entitled the "Duo Alliance". A treaty has yet to be drafted however.

Speaking to press outside his office, he championed the meeting and called it a step in the right direction for Baltusia's standing in international affairs.

For too long have we been in the shadows, and not being a team player in international politics. We can now say with confidence that those old ways are gone. We hope that the Duo Alliance is merely the start for a stronger Baltusia on the world stage.

Some analysts and fellow lawmakers within the senate have been debating on expansion of this alliance, to possibly form a regional alliance of Seleyan nations, similar to the Seleyan Union, but many say it's too early to make such assumptions.

Baltusia Today is a daily newspaper that reports on both world and national news, headquartered in Harriston, in New Egelion.

Members of the Ralston National Guard convene together in Fremont, where they were called in to split up illegal militias formed by Libertarians of the Republican Party.

National Guard called in Ralston, Santiago to curb violence caused by right-wing militias
Published February 29th, 4462

For the first time, the State National Guard of both Ralston and Santiago were called in to disperse armed militias belonging to the Libertarian faction of the Republican Party. At the time of this publication, smaller clashes are being reported in both southern Westbrook and parts of Attano, but these have already been calmed by local police forces.

With the national guard, several firefights have broken out according to witnesses. "The guys who were holding rifles were agitating the national guard, and then someone just started shooting. I wasn't able to tell whether it was the troops or the militia." States Tom Morrison, a local resident of Fremont, in Ralston, an otherwise quiet town.

In few interviews with the militia members, they state that their reasoning was a deliberate political move. "We believe in protecting our rights as individuals, and our property. Now that these leftists are in power, they want to take that away! It's like all the hard work over the past 20 years was all for nothing!"

The leading faction of the Republican Party, the nationalists, have yet to comment on these recent matters. A spokesperson for the Republican Party declined to be reached for comment by Baltusia Today.

Secretary of Defense Hernandez vows action against illegal paramilitaries, pledges full cooperation with DoJ
Published February 29th, 4462

"This is absolutely unacceptable. Paramilitaries are illegal and we will assist our national guard divisions and cooperate fully with the Department of Justice."

Immediately after the National Guard were called, the DoD was quickly swamped with calls and the newly elected Secretary of Defense, Conner Hernandez was quick to hold a press conference on the matter.

Speaking to reporters, he vowed justice against these illegal militias and agreed to fully cooperate with the Department of Justice for a speedy effort to secure the peace. He also stressed that a full investigation of the Republican Party as to why they would go to such lengths would be considered between his office and the DoJ.

This is not a political move by us. I bow to no party. I bow to the federal government. This is a matter of national security and an investigation into why they would go such lengths to disrupt the peace for the childish notion of being upset due to differing ideas will definitely be considered between my office and Secretary of Justice Sufijes. If they wanted to voice their opinion within the confines of the law, they would've organized a protest. But they didn't, and have chosen to break the law, and as such, will be punished accordingly.

A wave of arrests from smaller clashes, as discussed in the previous article, are already being reported by various county police departments in Attano and south Westbrook.

Libertarian leadership condemns both government action and paramilitaries

In a statement to the press this afternoon, Richard Coolidge condemned both the government and libertarian paramilitaries in what he called a "scandalous affair on the part of the state and a blight upon the good name of libertarianism perpatuated by misguided crackpots."

Libertarians enter day 5 of protests.

President Christopher Jacobs in a statement to the press reiterates Government's position on paramilitaries!
In a statement to the press, President Jacobs urges everyone to look at the laws of the land and that Paramilitaries are illegal and the recognized government may intervene freely to stop any possible activity. I have instructed the Department of Defense to take the appropriate action

Ambassador Urquhart lobbies the World Congress for action against Saridan
Johnston, D.D., September 13th, 4463

JOHNSTON - Recently at the request of both the President and the Secretary of State, Ambassador to the World Congress Sofia Urquhart lobbied to the WC for tougher action on Saridan, who recently decriminalized segregation. Many also realized the need for caution in pursuing action against Saridan, as the south Seleyan nation is a member of the Consortium Alliance (CA), which consists of, at the time of this publication, Deltaria, Zardugal, Badara, and Saridan, with three more nations seemingly on the cusp of membership.

Ambassador Urquhart recognized these details, and stated that action against Saridan must be "careful and measured." She also stated that she would consult with Secretary of State Francis to lobby Valruzia, a newfound friend of Baltusia on these matters. The New Valois Gazette has provided her delegation to the WC below, along with her statement to the press today.

"We recognize the concerns fellow lawmakers and people in the Department of State are having in these matters. I understand completely that Saridan is a member of the Consortium Alliance. As such, any action we, or fellow nations take against Saridan must be careful and measured."

Fellow delegates,

We urge fellow countries to take action against Saridan, a nation which has recently legalized segregation. Saridan has had a history of morally reprehensible actions, from legalizing slavery to threatening nuclear war with their neighbors. It seems that things were on the upturn with this nation, but now it seems they are relapsing. We, the people of Baltusia will take our own actions against Saridan, and hope that those among us will follow suit.
