KVP and ND to merge into new United Nsanian Congress
July 18th, 5417
Haradesa: After extensive behind the scenes talks the ruling Conservative People's Party and the Nsanian Democracy party have merged into the new United Nsanian Congress or UNC. The new party, which will advocate for center-right policies, is the brainchild of State President Akina who is seeking to expand her supporters base in an effort to secure a potential second term. While the ruling KVP has dominated elections Akina has repeatedly stated that she believes that the right should further consolidate to "protect our powerbase." While left-leaning parties are banned in Nsanlosa, the oppossition 'Democratic Alliance' is gaining ground as a centrist alternative that is not easily banned by the High Court or National Electoral Commission. Despite this seeming need for consolidation notable KVP figures had been against a merger, specifically the Right Honourable Kiama Chitundu and Mzuzu Badru. Chitundu, part of the Nsanian nobility, is known to be amongst the more conservative wings of the KVP and has repeatedly criticized the backroom talks with the more centrist Nsanian Democracy. Badru on the other hand is known to be a reformist, but opposed to merging with Nsanian Democracy as it could potentially stifle reformist hopes. The new UNC (also known as Congress) will espouse Hosian Democracy, Liberal Conservatism and Civic Nationalism as its main tenets, with its political position to be the centre-right.
With the merger Akina has likely secured another term as President. Her conservative style of rule combined with the consolidation of power towards the central government have concerned some. Others are optimistic of her tenure however, with Akina and her predecessor Von Meyer having brought stability and immense economic progress to the country. Von Meyer, due to the merge, has now also been removed as KVP chairman as a new "party board" takes shape. This is seen by many as the latest covert act by Akina, removing the last remnants of Von Meyer and his administration from government and power.
