Nsanlosa to buy small arms and specialized equipment from Hutori
June 24th, 5421

Haradesa: The Reichsministry of Defense has announced that it will buy small arms, tactical gear and mortars from the Kingdom of Hutori. The purchase will be enough to supply all the Shock Troops as well as two brigades of the regular army. The ministry will buy the equipment from Terran Ground Defence, the leading small arms company in Hutori. TGD will also be opening two munitions factories in Nsanlosa, meant to supply the new ammunition needed for the equipment to the Reichsheer. Reichsminister Sefu Chane celebrated the purchase as a "new chapter in defense cooperation." Previously Nsanlosa had purchased specialized equipment from Kalistan for its army but it desired more, seeking to use weaponry from other CSCO nations. The Hutorian equipment to be delivered includes the C8 assault rifle, new helmets and armor and machine guns like the famous M249. While the deal is significant in its own right, allowing the Shock Troops and two army brigades to be equipped with top notch equipment, it is also seen as a significant step towards standardization of the Reichswehr to the level of other CSCO country's.

The next important decision to be made by the RoD is the future of the armoured corps of the Reichsheer, which has been using aging Istalian vehicles for the bulk of the force. A discussion within the Committee for Defense Approprations in the assembly seems divided, with some seeking to purchase new equipment from Hutori while others want to stimulate the Nsanian defense industry and start the process of reverse engineering the vehicles. A final decision is likely to be made by Reichskanzler Akina and the Grand Assembly within the next 6 months.

Operation Porcupine concluded, sides come to negotiating table
July 8th, 5421

Sulekoto: Operation Porcupine, which has lasted nearly 6 months, has concluded with the capture of the major town of Gasaro in the upper north of Kagba. The entire operation, spearheaded by the Reichsheer, has seen at least 291 soldiers killed and a estimated 2200 insurgents killed. Thousands more have been wounded as the operation ends in a stalemate. While the Reichswehr has managed to reastablish control over the Istapalian border and nearly every major town it has come at the cost of nearly 900 security personell for the duration of the conflict. Furthermore the insurgency is still burning hot as it is estimated that all insurgent groups combined still muster around 5000 strong.

The operation saw two infantry batallions be unified under a single battle formation, officially named "Strike Formation Eagle" or SFE. Strike Formation Eagle conducted operations through the north, specifically to drive out insurgents from major towns. They were supported by Stoßtruppen-Nord units and from the air by a variety of HF-15N jets and transport/attack helicopters. As Operation Porcupine draws to a close the Reichswehr, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Domestic Affairs and the various militant groups have decided to launch negotiations in the Kagban capital of Sulekoto, discussing an end to the 11 year old conflict. The conflict has ravaged Kagba and has handed it to military administrators for all those years. Non existent development, a health crisis and a generation of trauma have left the province in a horrible shape. As operation porcupine resulted in a stalemate the national government, seeking an end to a costly conflict, agreed to hold negotiations.

Now the PDM, PFUD and other insurgent groups have formed the "United Roundtable" consisting of representatives of each group to negotiate with the central government. PDM representatives are likely to call for autonomy in Kagba while the PFUD will seek relaxation of the State Defense Decree and the Electoral Reform Act, which combined have banned left-wing parties from forming. Whether the national government will give in remains to be seen, with some hawks like Reichsminister of Defense Chane and Reichskanzler Akina herself so far being unwilling to negotiate.

Vascanians to be allowed refuge in Nsanlosa
August 18th, 5421

Haradesa: The Reichsministry of External Affairs has issued a directive allowing people with Vascanian identity cards and/or passports refuge in Nsanlosa after screening by Das Büro. The directive comes following the decision by Vascania to expell all Nsanians from Vascanian territory. In retalliation, some had hoped similar actions by the Nsanian government. Instead they have done the oppossite, allowing Vascanians currently residing in Nsanlosa to stay here and also permitting Vascanians in Vascania itself to seek refuge in Nsanlosa, partially rolling back the travel ban imposed earlier. Reichsminister Khalfani noted that

many Vascanians now live in fear of their life's, not sure if they are next in the persecution of political oppossition by this rogue military regime. It is therefor of the highest importance that these people are given refuge in Nsanlosa, we see it as our humanitarian duty to do so.

The condition for entry is a screening by Das Büro and any Vascanian entering the country must have a valid document for identification. While Nsanlosa will keep its two consulates in Vascania open for now Reichsminister Khalfani has indicated that his ministry is "determining whether or not it is wiser to maintain diplomatic relations or end them for the duration of the Vascanian junta."

Peace in Kagba, federalism returns to Nsanlosa
June 24th, 5423

Haradesa: All sides at the Sulekoto Conference have come to a finalized agreement, bringing peace to Kagba after a 14 year long conflict. The agreement, now signed by all sides, agrees to remove martial law from Kagba and return civil rule in the province. It furthermore stipulates that the provinces will be granted autonomy over most domestic matters, co-jointly legislating these matters with the central government. The monarch will also no longer be appointing provincial governors, with these governors instead elected directly by the people. This was a specific demand from the PDM and PFUD, both seeking autonomy for Kagba. As the national government refused to give Kagba a seperate status, it has thus given all provinces nominal autonomy. Through this decision the central government in Haradesa will enjoy less direct control but will still retain large influence, primarily through its budget which has been a lifeline for the majority of provinces in Nsanian history.

One of the most important changes however is a adjustment of both the State Defense Decree and the Electoral Reform Act, both of which will be changed by the central government to allow the formation of some left wing parties, with the wording of both to be changed in such a way that only communist and parties that are openly hostile to the government will be banned. Also stricter wording on "anti-government activities" will be applied as a response, ensuring that the federal government retains the power to crack down on dissent that upsets the status quo. Reichskanzler Akina and Kaiser Anasa have both agreed to sign the agreement and all the necessary legislation that flows from it, ending 14 years of war in Kagba. The PDM, PFUD and all other insurgent groups have agreed to disarm, with the Reichsministry of Domestic Affairs to be in charge of the disarmament proces. The Reichsheer is also to be pulled back from Kagba over the next 2 months, with martial law immediately ended.

New elections have been scheduled to be held in several months, allowing new leftist parties to participate. The political arms of the PDM and PFUD have merged and announced the formation of the "People's Electoral Movement" or PEM, a left-wing political party seeking to contest the upcoming election. The Democratic Alliance, after consultation within the party itself, has announced it will continue as a party and once again contest the upcoming election. Rumors are circulating about more parties seeking to apply with the National Electoral Commission, with this upcoming election to be a test on how lenient the NEC will be compared to previous elections.

Das Herz der Macht
BDU loses majority for first time in decades
January 18th, 5424

Haradesa: After several months of delay the much anticipated first federal election of the Reich has resulted in a hung assembly, with the BDU losing its absolute majority for the first time in decades. The newly formed Socialists and Democrats, a center-left social democratic party, has created a unanticipated upset by (narrowly) winning most seats in the Grand Assembly. It won 126 seats, against the BDU its 122. The long time oppossition Democratic Alliance failed to break out but retained a healthy number of seatsm totalling 45. The new People's Electoral Movement (Dundorfian: Volkswahlbewegung) has as expected swept northern constituencies, capturing all seats in Kagba and some in Byari. The party won a total of 27 seats, making it the first time that a openly progressive and socialist political party has won seats since the introduction of the State Defense Decree and the ERA. The result allows the SuD to start talks on forming a government but the influence of the Kaiser lingers. It is unlikely that the SuD will form a government with the PEM, as the Kaiser has indicated his unwillingness to support a full left-wing government. It is therefor more likely that the social democrats will look towards the centrist Democratic Alliance to form a government, which would become the first coalition government since one party KVP/BDU rule.

SuD leader Ole Duma is to be the likely new Reichskanzler with the SuD leader meeting with Kaiser Anasa later today to discuss moving forward. Under the Nsanian system, the monarch has a free choice in picking the Reichskanzler, altho it is still best for governance to pick one with majority assembly support. The meeting is meant to introduce the two to one another, paving the way for a Duma chancellorship. Kesi Akina, head of state and later government for over 10 years, will thus more then likely leave office, already facing pressure to resign as party leader as well. It is an end to an era. Intelligence and security institutions seem not to be intervening, marking the first peacefull transition of power in 24 years. The influence of the monarch lingers, and the SDD and ERA remain partially in effect, but it seems democracy as now finally returned to Nsanlosa.

Das Goldmaß
Central Bank to create policy guidelines
January 20th, 5424

Haradesa: New Governor of the Nsanian Central Bank Sefu Kwanzaa has announced that the NCB will start creating policy guidelines, specifically focussed on budgetary and fiscal matters. The guidelines will be issued to the Reichsminstry of Economic Development and the Reichsministry of the Treasury in an effort to allow for better decisionmaking and more sound fiscal policy. The guidelines were an idea of Kwanzaa himself, who was appointed by the new Duma administration as the first mixed-market economist to be in the position in the last 30 years. Governor Kwanzaa also announced that the NCB would undergo structural changes and tighten its regulations regarding financial institutions in an effort to get a better understanding of the market. It is expected that this new direction Kwanzaa is taking the NCB in could be beneficial for both state and private bussiness, as despite stricter rules and regulations a newly balanced financial market could move private parties to make themselves more competitive in an effort to allign with new policies.

The policy guidelines will not be mandatory but merely "advisory" for the ministries to use, allowing them to get the NCB its perspective on certain economic policies. Reichskanzler Duma is currently in the process of appointing his cabinet, after being appointed Reichskanzler just half a month ago by Kaiser Anasa. The new government will consist of ministers from the SuD and the DA, forming a centrist to center-left coalition government. The appointment of Kwanzaa was a personal decision by Reichskanzler Duma, with explicit support from the Kaiser in a show of unity. It is likely that Kwanzaa will take small but noticeable steps away from the previous "full support" of the free market by his predecessors, taking a more mixed approach to the handling of the NCB instead.

Haradesa: Kagba Province is having difficulties in finding its path to recovery following 14 devastating years of conflict and military rule. The newly elected majority government of the PEM has, in its effort to quickly realize reconstruction, enacted a plan to prioritize the construction sector. The plan includes 500 million that the province was granted by the federal government in its efforts for reconstruction, allocating 50% of the funds to the provincially state owned "Kagban State Construction" or KSC with the remaining 50% to be directly used in funding major infrastructure programs. The KSC is owned by the Kagban government and has been designated by PEM governor Habib Hali as the company that will be largely responsible for reconstruction efforts, thus betting for a state guided solution to rebuilding Kagba. The provincial council, just two months after being elected, also passed several measures that will allow the provincial government to take the reigns. The new legislation will make it easier for the government to use eminent domain for large construction projects and grants local municipalities and tribes the tools to kick off construction projects more easily.

The provincial government has also issued several provincial directives aimed at loosening restrictions for construction companies, suprisingly even loosening them for private companies in the sector despite PEM its leftist oriented approach. All these measures are meant to accelerate reconstruction, with almost every town in the province having been hit by the Kagban insurgency. The subsequent military governments that had governed Kagba have also not invested a single Sanwat into the province, with economic development basically halted and the province estimated to be at least 8 years behind other provinces. While Kagba has a long road ahead on many fronts, the efforts of Governor Hali and his PEM administration are slowly trying to turn the page for the disaster struck province.

Haradesa: Ahead of provincial elections in 5 of the 10 provinces the Democratic Alliance has announced a merger with a variety of smaller parties into the "new" Koalition party. Most Nsanians would recognize the name, as it is the same as the pre-authoritarian era "Coalition" that had governed together with the KVP until it was outlawed and the KVP became the sole governing party. The new party is taking over the original name, fully spelled the "Coalition of Independents", and adopting a somewhat similar electoral program. The party will continue to sit at the center of the political spectrum, with some center-right policies especially on the economy. The merger was announced to create momentum heading into a round of provincial elections scheduled to be held next year. These elections will elect new governors and provincial assemblies/councils in Byari, Kare, Gichena, Kudala and Mukina. The elections will thus decide who controls provincial policy.

In Mukina the new coalition has agreed to support the SuD candidate for governor but in the other provinces it seeks to participate on its own. With this merger the party hopes to create a strong centrist bloc and potentially win power in some of the provinces. Despite the bigger electoral bloc this merger forms it is unlikely that the party will manage to win significant power. Only in the province of Kare the new merger performed well in prelimenary polls, with the other provinces primarily dominated by both the BDU and the SuD. Whether this "new" merge will significantly change the Nsanian electoral landscape thus remains to be seen. The new party will continue to serve in the Duda administration, keeping the pledges made by the Democratic Alliance.

February 8th, 5425

Haradesa: A report of the Bureau for National Statistics has confirmed what the Duma government had hoped, its "Kleine Geldbörs Politik" is working in both driving more growth and strengthening/expanding the middle class. Around a year since the installation of the government of Reichskanzler Duma the first indications of how the country reacts to its policies are coming out. Four months into its term the government, spearheaded by economy minister Msia Mpenda, announced the "Kleine Geldbörse" policy initiatives, aimed at expanding the middle class and supporting specifically small and medium sized bussinesses. Previous (BDU and KVP) administrations had focussed on cutting rules, mostly favoring larger bussinesses. Under this new set of initiatives the government would look for a more structured approach, specifically not focussing on cutting regulations and bureaucracy but at lowering taxes for smaller companies and creating additional regulations on monopolies and bussiness takeovers. The new "Economic Designation Act" further restricted potential takeovers while primarily focussing on competition laws, creating the new Federal Regulatory Agency on Commerce (FRAC) which has under the Economic Designation Act been granted the power to evaluate bussiness takeovers and regulate the market to allow for enough competition.

All these measures favor smaller bussinesses as it allows them to operate in a fairer market that doesnt force them to go into massive debt to keep up or sell their company as they cant. This new environment has somewhat hurt larger institutions but is seeing a positive effect overall. A record 1200 bussinesses were opened in the last quarter, almost as high as the whole of last year. These bussinesses are primarily in the service sector, with coffee shops, restaurants and clothing stores amongst the most popular being opened as of late. A interesting number of start-ups, primarily in the financial and tech sector are also entering markets, creating a more competitive environment and forcing conglomorates like Megabite to also stay competitive instead of buying up its competition. The Bureau for National Statistics has now estimated that the middle class in the last year alone has grown by 12%, higher then the last 3 years combined. This is thanks in large part to the lower class being able to create their own bussiness, with bank loans also made easier through state guarentees on specific loans for first time bussinesses.

All in all the introduction of "Kleine Geldbörs Politik" is seen as a positive for the economy that will make it a more competitive space capable of adapting to the wants and needs of the population. Economic growth, while high previously, now sits at a excellent 4.8% with unemployment slowly going down and currently sitting at 11%, down from 14% last quarter.

December 8th, 5425

Haradesa: The Ministries of External Affairs and Defense have revealed a deal between the Reichsmarine and Hutori for the purchase of 4 Liberty-class guided missile destroyers. The deal, celebrated as yet another milestone in Nsanian-Hutorian defense cooperation, is meant to bolster the Reichsmarine its capabilities. As of now the Reichsmarine is the smallest branch of the Reichswehr, also being low funded compared to other branches. It consists of just 4 older Dorvish Dunburg-class frigates and a Aloro-class frigate from Istalia. It has no other combat capable ships besides some armed patrol boats. With the NÖF its discovery of oil and gas of the Nsanian coast it has become increasingly clear that the navy needs attention if it is to protect Nsanian waters. Despite the emphasize on the ground and air forces the navy is now to receive new modern ships.

The four destroyers will be sold at a cost of 800 million each, amounting to 3.2 billion. This includes costs for initial training to be given by Hutorian Naval personel and initial engineering help to train Nsanian engineers on maintaining the ships. Hutori will also deliver at least 2 wildcat helicopters per ship that will function in a reconaissance and ASW role. The total deal will end up costing the Nsanian treasury 3.3 billion. The large cost of the aquisition will be split in 4, as one ship per year is to be delivered allowing the navy to spread the costs of the purchase.

Simultaniously the Reichsmarine announced that the single Aloro-class frigate that has been in Nsanian service for nearly 300 years (and several refits) is to be finally decommissioned in two years time, ending the ship that has been in Nsanian service the longest. With this deal the Reichsmarine will bolster its capabilities, ensuring it would be up for the task to protect Nsanian waters.
