Haradesa: The Provincial Council of the Capital Province has approved a bill that will see the realization of a second airport in the province, to serve as a regional hub and lower the strain that is currently gripping Haradesa International. The HIA is the largest airport in the country, serving 10 million passengers a year. While Haradesa International has been repeatedly expanded and modernized, its current growth combined with a rising middle class in Nsanlosa itself has caused the aiport to become overcrowded. While initially a plan to expand HIA itself was introduced, provincial governor Misa Mshindi personally vetoed the plan, fearing that further expansion of the HIA would cause infrastructure problems for Haradesa itself, with the eastern portion of the city already facing infrastructure issues due to the airport.
The new plan, proposed by Mshindi as a replacement, will see two billion be invested into the new "Njowga Provincial Airport", named after army general Ali Njowga. The bill further directs the Provincial Ministry of Inter-Provincial affairs to work with the Gichena provincial government into working on the project together. This would mean that part of the airport would be in Gichenese jurisdiction while another part would be in CP jurisdiction. The plan also freed up two billion in funding to buy the necessary land and lay the groundwork. When it passed, the CP government and Gichena government both signed a "framework of cooperation" which outlined both being in agreement to work on Njowga Provincial Airport together.
Gichena province will be investing one billion in total, which will be added up on the two billion from the Capital Province. Currently both governments are buying the necessary land, with a notice of eviction given to anyone in the area and both using eminent domain on those not willing to move. The new airport will be situated in the north (south for Gichena) and in granting the contracts for construction the governments will specifically look at designs that "enhance the goal of lowering the pressure on Haradesa International Airport." The bidding process on the contract will be held in the next four months, with several construction companies already eager to apply for the contract. The process will be streamlined by the Inter-provincial commission on Njowga Provincial Airport, specifically created by the two provinces to coordinate the project.
