Much of Hanzen's farmers still use techniques that have been used or thousands of yearsGovernment to Create Program to usher in new Technological Age in Hanzense AgricultureOctober 4th 5389
The Minister of Forests, and Agriculture Snoh Chakrabonse announced today that the Hanzense Government will be encouraging the advancement of agriculture towards more technological innovation in the sector. For many centuries Hanzense farmers have used the same traditional techniques to farm that their fathers and forefathers have used, however with Terra and much of the rest of the world increasing their agricultural output and profits, Hanzen's Government has decided it is time for Hanzen to get up to speed.
Hanzen has some of the most prized irrigable land in Terra. Now the Independent will explore the many sectors of the Hanzense Agricultural sector that can be vastly improved and modernized and that the Government is now focusing on.
Rice: Rice is by far Hanzen's largest Agricultural industry. Rice has long been a staple of not only the diet of the Hanzense people but it has been imported to countries across Terra. Hanzen is suited for rice production because of the wetlands and swamps and marshes that are all over much of Western Hanzen and that line the many rivers, canals and streams of the region. For years rice farming has been a high labor and high cost industry however Hanzense farmers are on the cusps of leading to a rice farming breakthrough with technology leading the way. Hanzense rice farmers (encouraged by the Government) have been making trial runs of using automated drones and GPS to accurately apply fertilizers onto the rice fields. The drones are programed to follow GPS coordinates that align with the dimensions of the rice field to be able to do the long process of spraying fertilizer down, efficiently and easy without the backbreaking work it used to take. This along with an increased used of heavy agricultural machinery such as specialized tractors will be able to help increase rice production for Hanzen. If this technology was to take root it would make Hanzen the rice powerhouse in the world while cutting prices on rice and making the Hanzense rice industry extremely competitive. One farmer named Tayakorn Sripituksakul who we talked to and who is utilizing the test programs funded by the government told us that
With these technologies I have seen some of the most incredible things. This is cutting time in the fields down by multiple hours a day giving us farmers time to do other things and maybe even spend more time with our families. My ancestors have worked these fields all their lives and this, this changes everything!
Coconuts:One of Hanzen's largest agriculture sectors are coconut farms. Coconut plantations are usually centered around canals where coconuts can be felled from trees and brought into boats. The process of felling coconuts usually involves a person poking a very long stick into the tree or climbing the tree to help make the coconuts fall. However Hanzen scientists and university students are developing technology that could change all of this. The process once the coconuts have been gathered has largely been refined and has not changed in a long time with large cranes carrying coconuts from small boats to larger ships however it is the process of getting coconuts from trees to boats that has long been laborious work. Drones have been developed to try and knock coconuts down with special tools. If this were to be widespread inside Hanzen it would drop the man hours and raise efficiency while still providing the jobs needed to operate the drones especially during the "plucking" process.
New coconut plucking drones will make coconut farming easier for Hanzen's farmers
Coffee: Coffee is one of the most widely studied and refined agricultural industries in Terra, Hanzen coffee plantations are no different being some of the early adopters of widespread technology usage for the production and harvesting of it. Coffee has huge demand across Terra with many countries and many people drinking coffee everyday. Many Hanzense farmers have started more coffee plantations or switching their farms to only do Coffee as it is very lucrative.
Sugar: Hanzen is one of Terra's largest sugar exporters in the world, however much of the sugar farming is done in older fashioned ways. Sugar is very similar to rice as many regions see heavy overlap between rice and sugar fields. Similarly to rice the increased push for the use of specialized tractors as well as drones will help to update this industry and help farmers produce more in a timely manner. Sugarcane is a highly sough after product across the world and these innovations could lead to swift changes in the industry.
The use of tractors for sugar harvesting is growing in popularity more and more because of heavy encouragement from the Hanzense Government
Tapioca: Hanzen is considered the world leader in Tapioca exporting however much of the work is still being done by manual labor. This is a sector that needs to see innovation however the Tapioca industry is not a massive one and Hanzen is the leader of it so it is completely an open frontier for exploration and innovation. Universities in Hanzen are starting to focus on this crop much more and new sorting machines that sift through the dirt and collect Cassava (Tapioca) root be collected much faster and more efficiently.
Cassava Root is highly prized in Hanzen as well as around the world
Fruits: Hanzen is blessed with many types of fruits as well, these are all cultivated differently but a common trend is much of the harvesting side of Hanzense fruit farming is done by manual labor. This is usually the slowest part of the process (besides the actual growing) and when many fruit have a limited time span, time is money. Some of the fruit that can be found cultivated in Hanzen include Durians, langsat, salak. Carambola (starfruit), mangosteen, and many more types being exported and used locally alike. Many of these fruits are limited to Hanzen and Southern Dovani so their cultivation and such is known but not studied in any depth by outside universities. Hanzen has begun developing plans to help spread awareness of these fruits and grow global demand for them.
Silk: Hanzense Silk is highly prized, the Government doesn't stop taking pictures of our Queen wearing luxurious Hanzense silk but many forget that Silk is a agricultural product and extremely import for Hanzen's economy. Silkworms need ideal temperatures and humidity to be reared and grow to produce silk. The Hanzense Government has implemented markings on all exported and domestic silk to make sue that buyers know the quality of it. The symbol they use is an elephant.
The
Gold elephant means it is Royal Hanzense Premium Silk made handmade and of the finest quality. The
Silver Elephant marks classic Hanzense silk that is made handmade and using traditional methods but not to the same standards as premium silk. The
Blue Elephant means that chemical dyes and technology has been used to create it while a
Green Elephant marks Hanzense silk that has been merged with artificial products to create a blend of material.
The Government to their credit has tried to make working conditions much better for Silk farmers. Handmade premium silk has provisions that require international labor laws to be followed to the letter of the law along with all handmade Hanzense silk. The problem with automating the silk industry is this leads to lesser quality silk and machines cannot beat the allure and fashion of handmade Hanzense silk products. However technology is helping with the raising of silkworms for the production of silk as new technology has helped better control the environment for silk worms allowing them to better regulate humidity and temperature easier and more cost effective.
Hanzenese Silk is extremely prized in fashion and technology is helping the industry become more and more cost effective and efficient
Conclusion: Hanzense agriculture remains the backbone of the Hanzense economy. It is true that the country is industrializing and diversifying it's range but it is clear that the Hanzense agriculture sector can improve and that is exactly what the Government is trying to do. The Hanzense Government has begun programs to get cost reducing tech into the hands of farmers and to develop solutions for farmers in industries that are not as studied. The Hanzense Government has waved all interest for farmers buying these new technologies as a way for them to be able to better afford it. Also they have created grants and subsidized the purchase of the technology many farmers need to improve their setups. This clearly is helping the farmers and farm workers as this is easily one of the lowest financial classes in Hanzen and in desperate need of the boost. We can hope that this works and the Hanzense economy booms from the agricultural boom this will hopefully cause.
