November 5301 | People's Republican Front and Sultan's Men make up the largest parties in Parliament

Bukoha (Breznica) - The National Election Commission certified the results of the November, 5301 parliamentary elections with the following results:

  • People's Republican Front - 123 seats
  • Sultan's Men - 97 seats
  • Supreme Ahmadi Council - 55 seats
  • Popular Front for the Revolution - 39 seats
  • Radical Party - 36 seats
The Prime Minister's party, the People's Republican Front, despite the recent scandals has continued their majority in the Parliament but by a slim margin. The surprising results for the big-tent Sultan's Men have prompted some to ask the question: will Statrica become a Sultanate? Officials from the People's Republican Front have denied support for the monarchy but some suspect that agreements between the Sultan's Men and Supreme Ahmadi Council could push the agenda further. Members of the Radical Party denounced the election and cite inconsistent reports regarding electoral fraud, abuse of authority and lack of resources in Skitati majority areas. Likewise the General-Secretary of the Central Committee of the Popular Front for the Revolution, Darwiish Caddow, condemned the election but noted that they would take their seats in Parliament.

The front-runner to replace the current Prime Minister, should the People's Republican Front fail to secure cooperation with the Sultan's Men, is likely to be Muxumed al-Bukoha the leader of the Sultan's Men and a close confidant of the pretender Sultan of the Asli Sultanate, Abdur Rasheed Jaajuumow, an Asli royal clan that has contested the title of Sultan for several centuries. The other, a prominent Talmorian-based clan, has not announced any intentions to contest the pretendership.

December 5301 | Muxumed al-Bukoha named Prime Minister.

Bukoha (Breznica) - Muxumed al-Bukoha, the leader of the Sultan's Men and Abdur Razzaaq al-Diab, the leader of the Supreme Ahmadi Council have agreed to form a coalition government granting them 152 seats. al-Bukoha will become Prime Minister where al-Diab will become the Deputy Prime Minister as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

  • Office of the Prime Minister - Muxumed al-Bukoha (Sultan's Men)
-- Deputy Prime Minister - Abdur Razzaaq al-Diab (Supreme Ahmadi Council)
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation - Abdur Razzaaq al-Diab (Supreme Ahmadi Council)
  • Ministry of National Defense - Kheyre Imaad el-Kamali (Sultan's Men)
  • Ministry of Finance and Taxation - Kaynaan Tooxow (Sultan's Men)
  • Ministry of Economic Development and Trade - Samatalis Baasaweyne (Sultan's Men)
  • Ministry of Justice and Administration - Zaid el-Badour (Supreme Ahmadi Council)
  • Ministry of Internal Security - Qaybdiid al-Saciid (Sultan's Men)
  • Ministry of Health - Dr. Qowdhan al-Abdelnour
  • Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport - Kamaal el-Rahmani (Supreme Ahmadi Council)
  • Ministry of Social Services and Families - Alawi el-Mahdavi (Sultan's Men)
  • Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport - Umar al-Sarwar (Supreme Ahmadi Council)
  • Ministry of Science, Technology and Communication - Aakif el-Sylla (Supreme Ahmadi Council)

One of the stated goals of the coalition is the "Restoration of the Asli Sultanate" but the coalition, unless they garner more support in the Parliament, are unlikely to be able to alter the constitution without additional support. According to the constitution they would need 233 seats, which would require support from either the People's Republican Front or the Radical Party and dissenters from the PRF.

September 5302 | Asli entrepreneur Shidane Amadayo launches Move

Image
Downtown Bukoha

Bukoha (Breznica) - Asli entrepreneur Shidane Amadayo announced the launch of Move (Asli: Dhaqaaq), a mobile phone application that connects Statricans with local food vendors. Amadayo initially launched the project with his wife, Xukun Mataan, who has since moved on to work for the state-owned National Telecommunications Agency (Asli: Hay’adda Isgaarsiinta Qaranka) as a senior network administrator, in January, 5294. The app, developed by Amadayo has faced difficulty due to the lack of access of mobile telephones in the country, something that he sought to rectify through his not-for-profit A Connected Generation! (Asli: Jiil isku xidhan!) which purchased older models of various phones and set-up Connected Wireless (Asli: Wireless ku xiran) to connect those phones and provide phone plans to the owners of the phones. Amadayo has amassed a small fortune which prompted him to launch Move after developing the application himself. The app which formally launched in January, 5300, has already been downloaded 237,000 times and connects Statricans with local food vendors and restaurants. The app has primarily launched in Bukoha, the nations main population center and an area where cell service and internet service are largely available 24/7.

The app has unintended consequences according to Deputy Minister of Communication Zainuddeen al-Ebrahimi which has worked with Amadyao and the Ministry of Finance and Taxation to register and setup proper business licenses for many of these "informal economy" jobs. While some have resisted and refused to register, others have embraced it and a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Finance and Taxation has noted an increase in overall revenue generation and tax collection. "The generation of revenue for the government allows us to develop more robust programs aimed at expanding the Statrican economy, something that must be done if we wish to succeed as a nation and stop existing as a so-called "failed state"." According to the spokeswoman, the Statrican economy lacks general circulation of currency, the development of a simple tax system and collection of said taxes. The Central Bank of Statrica has requested the International Development and Stability Bank to provide low-interest loans to develop the digital banking infrastructure and has asked the central government to allow for digital banking licenses for several banks.

September 5305 | Deputy Minister of Culture launches Dovani Culture Institute in Bukoha

Bukoha (Breznica) - Deputy Minister of Culture Kaafiye Qalaad announced that Statrica would be forming the Dovani Culture Institute in Bukoha and would be launching a new study of the Dovani continent. Qalaad, a member of the the Watembo ethnic group, called for a large-scale study of the Dovani cultures outside of the "colonial cultures". The development of the Dovani Culture Institute is the first step, he claims, in the study of the various Dovani people that have inhabited the continent since its inception. Qalaad hypothesizes that the "Dovani" people, a term that comes from Christopher Dove, the explorer who found Dovani and a "colonizer", is better to describe the various peoples and ethnic groups of the continent compared to other terms. In addition he notes that the Dovani people are divided among two primary ethnic spheres: Asli (OOC: West/Central African) and Kuragao/Kitembo (OOC: East/South African). In recent years the term Kuragao has fallen out of use and the more modern term "Kitembo" or "Kitemban" has come into use and the formation of the Kitembo Union has driven the Kitemban language (OOC: Swahili) to wide-spread use in East Dovani. In his first published work several years prior to his employment at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, he discussed the presence of Watembo (OOC: Somali) and Watemban (OOC: Somali language) speakers in Statrica. He noted that research places the Watembo people somewhere in central or eastern Dovani but during the collapse of the Asli Sultanate they migrated to modern day Statrica and are somewhat of "independent" group within the wider language infrastructure of Dovani.

His second published work discussed the "Dovani Majatrans" (OOC: African Arabs) in which the term "Majatran Asli" is often incorrectly applied but has become so widespread that its alteration might be too late. He also discusses the presence of Dovani Hebilean's (OOC: Tuareg) across Dovani, mostly from sea-based trade when Mina was founded, something of an anomaly he noted among the spread of certain ethnicities. He noted that sizable portions of Dovani Hebilean's exist throughout many Dovani-majority nations. His third published work discussed the diffusion and dominance of the Asli people throughout Dovani; he noted that the Huhoa (OOC: Hausa) and the Keobi (OOC: Igbo) have largely dominated several nations; most notably the nation of North Dovani. He noted several prominent movements throughout the late 53rd and early 54th centuries in which the smaller, often more oppressed Asli and Kitembo ethnic groups have attempted to garner support. In Statrica the northern ethnic group, the Ndelo (Border in the Ndelo (OOC: Lingala) language) are a group of Central or East Dovani people that were recruited and hired by Canrillaise explorers and colonizers and were granted land settlements in northern Statrica, formerly underneath the control of Lourenne as a component of the Canrillaise Empire. Lingala has clear influences from many colonial languages such as Luthorian and Canrillaise. Despite the evidence that they originated in eastern Dovani, they are often considered to be a mixed Asli-Kitembo ethnic group due to years of intermarrying.

His fourth work discussed the presence of the Batokelaw (Bato: The Worshipers; OOC: Ewe), who speak Batokelaw often shortened to "Bato", were once a prominent religious caste within the Asli Sultanate and some of the first to convert to Ahmadism as it spread to Dovani. The Batokelaw reside in the eastern part of Statrica and are typically ardent Ahmadi's and are considered an "Asli" ethnic group of the wider Dovani culture. Qalaad's proposal to the Statrican Parliament recommends that the government adopt Watembo (OOC: Somali) and Huhoa (OOC: Hausa) as de facto national languages with recognition for Ndelo (OOC: Lingala) and Bato (OOC: Ewe) with further recognition efforts to be handed to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

Statrica-Lourenne agree to multi-billion LOD defense deal | September 5305

Republic of Statrica - Minister of National Defense Kheyre Imaad el-Kamali (Sultan's Men) announced that they had agreed in principal to a large-scale defense deal with several Lourennais defense corporations. The deal, brokered by Governor Osendé Maéla, a former officer in the Canrillaise Foreign Legion and a close confidant of many Canrillaise politicians, is the first foreign aid given to the Armed Forces of Statrica. The deal includes a large number of small arms, mostly FAMAS assault rifles, ammunition and handguns of various styles in addition to a variety of small and personal munitions. In addition, Lourenne has offered to supply the Statrican Armed Forces with Leclerc main battle tanks, VAB armored personnel carriers and a number of AMX-10 RC to supplement the poor state of the wider armed forces. The deal, worth several billion LOD will be paid out of loans taken by the Statrican government provided by several organizations, including the International Development and Stability Bank (IDSB). Defense Minister el-Kamali has hired a number of former Canrillaise Foreign Legion members to act as defense advisors, including the former Aldurian Defense Minister Émilien Gérin-Lajoie and former President of Alduria, General Auguste de Orange-Levasseur. It is likely that Statrica will adopt the Canrillaise model of an armed forces, something that has been debated within the Statrican Parliament with most MPs agreeing with adopting the Canrillaise model and the Radical Party pushing for a more hybrid Trigunian-Deltarian model. Statrica possesses a large number of defunct and poorly maintained pieces of Trigunian and Deltarian-made equipment, some of which is in possession of the Statrican Volunteer Guard.

Officially the Statrican Parliament voted to disband all politically-based paramilitary organizations, the Statrican Volunteer Guard included. While the Statrican Parliament passed the legislation, the government has been unable to disarm and disband many of the paramilitary organizations that exist within Statrica. The most prominent being the Statrican Volunteer Guard comprised of a significant amount of the Skitati in the country; including several members of the Statrican Parliament. In the east, the Ahmadi-based Army of Righteousness (Bato: Tilennenya kɛlɛbolo; often called Tilkele) is comprised of radicalized Batokelaw who've carried out number attacks against the government but have generally failed to garner popular support in the east of the country among the Bato people. Former Ndelo officers and soldiers from the Canrillaise Foreign Legion formed the Frontier Protection Force (Ndelo: Force de protection ya frontière; FPF) and have acted as the de facto police force in the Ndelo majority areas that border Lourenne and have, at times, sparred with government forces attempting to carry out laws that the Ndelo-majority areas disagree with. This is in addition to several known terrorist groups operating in the region, the Majatran Mujadheen in Dovani (MMD), and Supreme Israic Council - Majatran Struggle Party's paramilitary wing, the Mudas.

October 5305 | Deputy Minister of Culture launches Dovani Culture Institute in Bukoha

Bukoha (Breznica) - Professor Philippe Kabeya of the Dovani Culture Institute gave a speech before assembled guests, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdur Razzaaq al-Diab, regarding the former colonial status of much of Statrica. Statrica, formerly a component of the Imperial Domains of Orleans and Vasser known as Orleans, has had a difficult cultural legacy having been lorded over by Deltaria, Zardugal, Dorvik and Lourenne. "We cannot forget that the Loureannais and the wider Canrillaise world have directly contributed to our current political and economic situation." The discussion, focused on the post-colonial legacy of Dovani, caused controversy at a time when Statrican and Lourennais relations have been warming and Prime Minister Muxumed al-Bukoha (Sultan's Men) has sought to benefit from trade relations with Lourenne. Shortly after the speech was given and news broke among local reporters in Bukoha, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced that it did not agree with the stance of Professor Kabeya and noted that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation was there as a guest of the Dovani Culture Institute as a whole.

In recent years the topic of support from the former colonial overlords has become a hot topic, especially in the Statrican Parliament. There has also been a wider movement to recognize Canrillaise, a language spoken by nearly 70% of the population and still taught in Statrican schools, as an official language. Representatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport have noted that they have partially recognized Canrillaise as a nation language but it would require an act of the Statrican Parliament to formalize it. Canrillaise is widely spoken in the armed forces where many professional soldiers and officers served in the Canrillaise Foreign Legion. The new government under al-Bukoha has adopted Huhoa, Watembo and Skitati as official languages but the Statrican Parliament has stopped short of adopting Canrillaise wholesale. There have been rumors that officials from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade have suggested the formation of a West Dovani Economic Community (WDEC) with Lourenne and Talmoria, potentially adding more in the future should it continue to grow.

Utembo, the state formerly known as Vasser, contains a significant minority of Asli people and some within Statrica have called for a reunion of the two nations.

October 5305 | Statrican Mining Workers Union calls for general strike

Republic of Statrica - Cyril Beauvilliers, an organizer for the Statrican Mining Workers Union (Canrillaise: Syndicat des travailleurs miniers de Statrican), one of the oldest unions in Statrica announced that they would be conducting a nation-wide strike in the wake of poor conditions and poor pay. The union contains over 97% of all mine workers in Statrica and has carried considerable political weight since its inceptions several centuries prior. Ahmedu Khairi, the Director of Safety and Workers Protection, has called upon the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to force the various mining corporations to adopt new worker safety standards and measures after a series of mining collapses in the eastern part of the country. Since the establishment of a relatively stable government in November, 5301 the Statrican economy has grown several quarters in a row, something that has not occurred in nearly 100 years of the countries existence. Statrica is a leading world supplier of rare earth metals (REM) which are essential the functioning of large swathes of Terran society. There are a bevy of corporations, mostly foreign owned, that operate within Statrica and many of them exist within the scope of the post-colonial legacy of Statrica and have garnered attention in recent years as continuing a form of colonialism according to a variety of workers' organizations in Statrica, including their mouthpiece the Popular Front for the Revolution. Prime Minister al-Bukoha called for the workers and the corporations to come to the table and invited them to a conference in Bukoha to discuss a settlement to the situation. Beauvilliers stated that he would be willing to sit down with the corporations and negotiate a new contract and safety standards but it would have to occur by the end of November, 5305.

April 5309 | Prime Minister approves National Language Act

Bukoha (Breznica) - Prime Minister Muxumed al-Bukoha signed legislation today passed by the Statrican Parliament that would recognize Canrillaise (OOC: French), Standard Majatran (OOC: Arabic) and Huhoa (OOC: Hausa) as the official languages with a number of recognized regional languages. The Prime Minister noted that the inclusion of Canrillaise as an official language would allow for interaction with the Canrillaise world, notably Lourenne, in affairs related to "...repairing previous colonial relationships that require repair." The Prime Minister has sought to develop closer ties with Lourenne, a potent economic power on Dovani that has the potential to directly benefit the economy of Statrica. The decision to allow Huhoa in place of Watembo was met with a number of critiques, notably from the large Watemban population in the nation. Watembo, the language spoken by a large number of both West and East Asli, has been spoken throughout a large part of Statrica throughout its history due to being the chosen people of the Deltarian Skitati colonizers. The tension between the various native tribes and the Skitati and their chosen people, the Watembo, has always been a source of conflict that has boiled over in recent decades. The majority of Statrican citizens are multi-lingual, most of them speaking Canrillaise and their native language. The Prime Minister has also promoted discussion of the development of West Dovani Economic Community (WDEC) with Lourenne and potentially expanding to other nations in Western Dovani, chief among them Ostland.

Governor Radošević pushes back against administrative reforms
March, 5309

Image
Skitati rally after the speech given by Governor Davor Radošević.

Bovnajsky, Bebrazska (Mtinbako) Region Governor Davor Radošević (Radical Party) announced that he had formally notified the central government of Bebrazska and his parties opposition to proposed administrative reforms by the Ministry of Justice and Administration and the Ministry of Internal Security. "The elimination of local democracy and a unitary form of government is dangerous to the existence of our people. I have filed formal complaints and opposition notice to the proposed reforms. In addition, in the Statrican Parliament my party and myself have fiercely defended overreach and radicalization." Bebrazska, the region with the largest remaining Skitati population in the nation, is largely isolated in their southwestern portion of Statrica and have fiercely defended their rights and pushed for more local autonomy, some even calling for a wholesale succession from "Statrica" and reforming the Grand Principality of Statrica proper. The Skitati population, often referred to as the name of the nation "Statricans", has had a contentious and violent history with the native population and despite a period of relative peace and prosperity with the native population. The Governor noted that should the government proceed against the "...will of the people..." that the Skitati and the Statrican Volunteer Guard will have no choice but to stand up against the grave injustice.

Bovnajsky News Agency (Statrica: Novinska agencija Bovnajski; NAB) formerly known as Statrican News Agency was the former government owned news agency of Statrica. It now serves as the most popular Skitati language based news in Statrica.

March, 5392 | Prime Minister Khairi missing as fighting erupts around capital.

Bukoha (Breznica) - Prime Minister Nabulung Khairi has been missing for several days, several factions around the country have declared a variety of interim governments and factions have competed for control over the capital Bukoha. The most prominent of those factions is lead by Lieutenant General Nasir Bature, a prominent Statrican Army General who had connections to several well-equipped military forces in the country. Bature is a figure that conjures controversy whenever he is mentioned, a prominent military officer in the Statrican Army who always feigned not having political aspirations, he became a central figure in the resistance to the government of Prime Minister Khairi and vocalized his support for a semi-presidential republic, likely with himself at the center. Bature served as a member of the Canrillaise Foreign Legion and has trained at a number of military academies and schools from across the Canrillaise nations, making him a well-educated and well connected military officer. As the government in Talmoria was toppled by Ahmadist in February, 5392, Bature has increasingly found himself among left-wing allies and those espousing more Ahmadist views. Bature, self-promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, previously served as a Colonel and was in charge of the elite 1st Armored Regiment (Canrillaise: 1er Régiment Blindé) which was charged with acting as a rapid response force for the government in Bukoha; as the government collapsed under increased factionalism, Bature declared himself Lieutenant General Bature and purged the 1st Armored Regiment of "...enemies of Socialism, the People and Ahmadism..." and took to securing a number of military bases around the capital and several smaller villages and cities that saw him as a "liberator" from the corrupt and ineffective central government. Bature currently leads an ad hoc group known as the Ahmadi Revolutionary Association (Canrillaise: Association révolutionnaire ahmadi; ARA) with support from the existing Socialist Party (Canrillaise: parti socialiste).

Several more prominent radical Ahmadi groups exist outside of Bature's, who is generally moderate. The Supreme Ahmadi Council in Statrica part of the wider Supreme Israic Council, brings together multiple factions and once served in the government of Statrica but has since become a rebel group following the collapse of the Khairi government in march, 5392. The former Minister of Education, Culture and Sport Danjuma Fu'ad, a member of the Supreme Ahmadi Council in Statrica (SACOS), now leads the group following the death of long-time leader Sheikh Usman el-Fawaz who was found dead, suspected to have been killed by agents from the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (Canrillaise: Direction du renseignement et de la sécurité; DRS). While Ahmadi socialist underneath Bature and more hard-line Ahmadist under el-Fawaz have maintained relative peace, other elements are in work including right-wing nationalist movements, ethnic movements from the Huhoa (OOC: Hausa), the Keobi (OOC: Igbo), the Ndelo (OOC: Lingala), and the Batokelaw (OOC: Ewe).
