What Does A Republican Government Mean For Indrala?
Story by Tan Dongsheng, 2 January 4296

TIAN'AN, Han — Mudanwan, June 21 4295. Fireworks are prepped, performers rehearse, and film crews stand ready for a party which never was. Two speeches are prepared, the first in case of victory, the second, for defeat. As the house lights rose inside the Mudanwan Convention and Exhibition Center, then-Chancellor Huang read out the second speech. Most polls predicted that this would be the case, though many still maintained hope for a surprise victory for "The Nation's Grandfather."

A few thousand kilometers south, the first speech was given by Huang's opponent, Zhang Zemin. As Zhang spoke at his outdoor election night rally, the mood among the crowd was electric. Hundreds of farmers had made the pilgrimage from their rural Shu villages to urban Hazhou, and watched with tears in their eyes as Zhang accepted the people's mandate: Zhang would become the next Chancellor of Indrala.

Back in Mudanwan, the grief of defeat was quickly replaced by fear for the future. The conference center, which was packed with intellectuals, students and union organizers quickly began to hypothesize what a Republican minority might mean for Indrala. The Republican Party has long been regarded as unpredictable, unstable and undisciplined, often buckling under the pressure of their angry populist base.

Despite this, Zhang's leadership is somewhat unique. While he maintains the Republican tradition of boisterous politics, he has already displayed a greater degree of collaboration during his years in opposition, particularly with his endorsement of Huang during the crucial 4290 election and his support for all government efforts in response to Typhoon Yutu.

Zhang's ability to work across the aisle will be essential for success in government. The current political climate is not one which is likely to permit a coalition: both the Lotus Party and the Republicans view themselves as the natural governing party, and both reject the NAP. Nonetheless, the last 15 years have seen success at stable minority governments. Indeed, both the Lotus Party and the Republicans have proved themselves to favour stability over political opportunity. The question for Zhang is whether or not he will be able to continue this emerging tradition.

If Zhang succeeds, his government will be the one which leads Indrala into 4300. As we approach a new century, many are worried about the economy. Under Huang's pragmatic economic approach, Indrala's economy is more diversified than ever. The Republicans, however, have had a lackluster record on the economy. While under the Republican/Nationalist Coalition of 4274 they eliminated corporate taxes, the party also nationalized the banking sector and raised luxury goods tax to 50%, both of which had dire consequences to the economy. Under Huang, taxes are at their lowest rate in recent memory, and the economy is experiencing a period of growth. It is yet to be seen whether or not Zhang can reject the irresponsible nature of Republican economic management or not, and continue to strengthen the bullish economy it inherited.

Zhang will also be forced into responding to world events. The Republican Party of the past has always maintained an insular focus, however with the Dalibor Crisis just north of Indrala, a Dankuk spiraling toward dictatorship as their royals reside in Indrala, as well as an increasingly militarized world, Zhang will not be able to watch from the sidelines. Following Huang Zitao's ambitious foreign policy agenda, it is expected that Indrala will be elected to the Security Council. How Chancellor Zhang handles world affairs will be yet another barometre of his success in office.

Despite the backing of the nation's largest and second largest unions, the General Labour Federation, and the National Educators' Association, as well as most partisan media organizations, the Lotus Party maintained third. Most corporations and caifu (wealthy and powerful family-owned) conglomerates supported the Republicans, whom would then come first. This may indicate a shift in the importance of our societal institutions. Especially given that the NAP, which were virtually cast out by established Indralan institutions were able to achieve second place. Indeed, it is to be expected that despite their second-place position, many will look to the Lotus Party as the true opposition.

Another thing to note would be the endorsement of the Sun Foundation, the Sun Group and Blood for the Banner! Magazine for the Lotus Party, highlighting a potential reemergence of the monarchist debate. Zhang Zemin's handling of this file will be important to watch.

In conclusion, as Zhang leads us into the 43rd century, many questions loom; will Indrala's minority government tradition last? Will the economy continue to grow and diversify, or crumble under Republican unpredictability? Most importantly, perhaps: will the Fourth Republic continue to stand?

Huang Zitao Diagnosed With Cancer; Former-Finance Minister Appointed Deputy Leader of Lotus Party
Speaking to media today, the Leader of the Lotus Party announced that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer
13 Novemeber 4296
Image
Linda Wong (left) and Huang Zitao (right), once opponents for the Lotus Party Leadership, now sharing the role. They have become good friends over the years.

This morning, speaking to media, Lotus Party Leader and former Chancellor Huang Zitao declared: "I've got another battle to win"

With his wife, Kim Bo-young, and friend Linda Wong at his side, the 80-year-old party leader revealed that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. In order to receive treatment, Linda Wong, former-Finance Minister and venture capitalist will be appointed to the role of Deputy Leader to divide the responsibilities of leading the party. Asked whether he would step down, Huang replied, “There is a lot more to do.”

There is still work ahead of us to build that caring and prosperous Indrala that we believe in and know is possible and I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves tomorrow morning and get back to work. I will beat this cancer and I will be in the National Conference to defend the values and priorities of Indralan families because I can't retreat from either battle. That's what we were taught in the Special Forces, that's what I taught my children. Never back down. Never retreat.

Deputy Leader Wong added, with tears in her eyes:

Mr. Huang is the only person in this country who has proved time and time again that they can stand up against the dangerous policies of the Republican Party. And we all know that he's one hell of a fighter. He'll beat this.

Once opponents for the party leadership, Wong and Huang have become good friends in the years that have followed. Now, as a leadership contest is underway to replace Huang following his electoral defeat in 4295, reporters asked Wong whether she would run again.

No. I will support our next leader. It's time for us old folks to get out of the way.

Huang is considered the most popular federal leader among Indralans. Despite losing in 4295, Huang maintains an approval rating in the high 60s.

HUANG ZITAO PURSUING HEALTHCARE LEGISLATION FOR PERSONAL GAIN?
Lotus leader looking to protect wealthy personal coffers by charging the taxpayer for his treatment

BOVINE NEWS
Local, Undeniable, Crystal News
No Bull Guarantee®

Image

13 NOVEMBER 4296
Today, Lotus Party leader Huang Zitao was diagnosed with prostate cancer only a month before his ultimatum to Chancellor Zhang Zemin's governing Republicans is about to pass. The cruel ultimatum, which the Republicans agreed to in order to maintain their control over the country's failing economy, involves subsidizing healthcare for all Indralans. This legislation would clearly benefit Huang Zitao, and force Indralans to contribute thousands-if not millions of shapirs to pay for his experimental treatments. Word on the street says that the government will initiate a full scale investigation into the matter and possibly refuse any treatment to Mr. Huang due to a clear conflict of interest. New revelations have also come out about Zitao's doctor, who is known for using experimental treatments on patients that pay him more. It also believed that Zitao's doctor has an affinity for gay men, and could possibly be a conflict of interest for Huang Zitao himself.

Lotus Party Deputy Leader Expresses 'Disgust' At Right-Wing Media
Image
Deputy Leader Wong speaking to media at the National Confernece

TIAN'AN, Han -- (15 November 4296) Charging out of the chamber following the debate on the SRP's Secularization Act, the Deputy Leader of the Lotus Party had something else on her mind. Reporting from the right-wing 'Bovine Media' suggests that the Lotus Party's healthcare ultimatum was a deliberate act on the part of Huang to save money following his diagnosis with prostate cancer.
Ladies and gentlemen, this "Bovine Media" claims to have a "no bull guarantee." Well then explain to me why I'm knee-deep in bullsh*t?

The former-Finance Minister and Deputy Leader held no punches as she rejected all the claims made by the Bovine Media article:
First, where the hell do these f*ckers get off, attacking a former-Chancellor who is currently fighting for his life?! Do they even have an inch of patriotism?! Whose son is this "Hao Wuying" that he can go on spouting lies, dishonoring his mother, father and all his ancestors?! I couldn't imagine being the mother to such a pig; I would be forced to jump into the Ma-Gan River!

Holding up a graph, Wong pursued another charge:
As you can see, the so-called "Bovine Media" is really just a mouth-piece for Zhang Zemin and his gang of thugs. Xiandai Group, which openly endorsed the Republican Party owns a 91.2% stake in "Liberty Media Solutions" which in turn owns a 56.9% stake in "Bovine Media!" You can't make this up! Given the proximity to the Republicans, if the claims in the article are true that Zhang Zemin plans to withhold medical treatment from the former-Chancellor, he's going to be making a big mistake. Huge.

Speaking finally about accusations of the Lotus Party's ultimatum being "cruel," Wong said:
You want to talk about being cruel? The healthcare ultimatum we presented to the Chancellor was to restore our National Health Insurance Program, which the Republicans moved to completely rescind, at the exact same time that they tried to force our children into hard labour! That is cruel.

Xiandai Group CEO Wang Tangfei could not be reached directly for comment, but his office released a statement which read:
Xiandai Group does not control or endorse the editorial decisions of its subsidiary media publishers. We wish the former-Chancellor a speedy recovery.

Past Imperial Claimant Wu Bingwen makes rare appearance and comments on the affairs of Dankuk

Image

The 91 year old Father of three, Grandfather of six, great grandfather of seven, and son of Hwangje Mi-Sun and reportedly Emperor Wu Ren, the last Emperor of the He Dynasty has made his first and as of yet only interview commenting on the events surrounding Dankuk:

Greetings Citizens of the Nation, I wish to make a formal announcement regarding the affairs of Dankuk but first I would like to extend my condolences to the House of Ryeo for their hardship at this current time and I am glad they made it out of Dankuk and are safe and they are welcome in my former home of the Imperial Yingdalan Palace.

As I am now more than 90 years old and there are times when I feel various constraints such as in my physical fitness, in the last few years I have started to reflect on life, and contemplate on my role and my duties in the days to come. Ever since my childhood, I have carried out the acts of my position in personal affairs, and at the same time I have spent my days searching for and contemplating on what is the desirable role of my position in society. As one who has inherited a long tradition, I have always felt a deep sense of responsibility to my people. In a world that is constantly changing, I have continued to think to this day about how my family can put its traditions to good use in the present age and be an active and inherent part of society, responding to the expectations of the people. In my travels throughout the country, I was made aware that wherever I went there were thousands of citizens who love their local community and with quiet dedication continue to support their community.

With this awareness I was able to carry out the most important duties, to always think of the people and pray for the people, with deep respect and love for the people. This is the true duty of a leader. That, is why I pray today for the safety and peace in Dankuk and its leaders. I fear the current regime has lost its sense of propriety and has caused unnecessary hardship on the people. My mother and aunt would have been greatly displeased with the the events in Dankuk and I fear for the future of my family-both Ryeo and Hwangje, and the people of Dankuk. I hope and pray that the leaders of Dankuk can come to reason and discover true inner peace and carry out their duties to the people and work together with the people to build the future of the country as is fitting of leaders. With this earnest wish, I have decided to make my thoughts known.

I also would like to admit the film about my late father was a very interesting take on his life and I am glad to have lived to see the day of its production.

So has said Mr. Wu, while tending his Koi pond while listening to music on his I-phone outside in the sunlight. When asked about potential claims to throne of Yingdala and recent affairs in Yingdala, he only had this to say "That used to trouble me greatly many years ago until one night I came across a saying in the Tao te Jing: Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are, when you realize that there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.' From then on I have been dedicated to the Way and have found true peace and it no longer is my concern. It is in Fate's hands."

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Candidate Profiles

The race to elect the Lotus Party's next leader is heating up and has attracted a wide range of outstanding candidates to propel our movement forward! Find below the profiles of the three declared candidates to help inform your decision in advance of the Leadership Convention in Kaizhou.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀General Yang Hanying, ret.
Image

General Yang Hanying has been a member of our movement since its inception in the 4250s. Born in 4230, General Yang has dedicated his life to public service. After receiving his draft notice at the age of 17, General Yang quickly ascended the ranks of the military and within 5 years, General Yang became the youngest Command Sergent Major in recent history. After receiving orders from the Tony Pua regime to use lethal force on pro-democracy protestors in Tian'an, General Yang resigned and redirected his fighting spirit to the pro-democratic cause. General Yang was allowed back into the military during Chancellor Wu's government, where he continued to serve until 4285, whereupon Chancellor Huang's election he was appointed as Defence Minister. General Yang's three policy priorities are as follows:
↳ Strengthening the stability of our democratic system in 4300;
↳ Restoring law and order with regard to pornography and drugs;
↳ Exerting Indrala's influence as a beacon of hope and democracy in the world.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Kwan Zhiyong
Image

Kwan Zhiyong, founder of the Students' Federation, has been an integral part of the pro-democratic movement in Indrala for the last four decades. Born to peasant farmers in Jiaozhi, Kwan worked three jobs during secondary school to support her family while graduating top of her class. During her time at Tian'an National University, Kwan founded the Students' Federation, which was the leading organization behind the pro-democracy marches of 4255. In July of 4256, Kwan was arrested and tortured by the regime for three months before finally being released. This only strengthened her convictions, as she mobilized thousands of students across Indrala to take a stand against the authoritarian reforms of the RC/Pua regime. Inspired by Huang Zitao, Kwan Zhiyong would go on to become a human rights lawyer. Ms. Kwan's three policy priorities are as follows:
↳ Increasing tuition subsidies;
↳ Protecting Jien/Guidao traditions;
↳ Reigning in the all-powerful caizu conglomerates.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Dr. Chen Quanguo
Image

Dr. Chen Quanguo was a neurosurgeon and hospital CEO before joining the Lotus Party. Born to a middle-class family in Taixi, Anle, Dr. Chen attended Enshi University to become a neurosurgeon. Celebrated in his field, Dr. Chen was quickly appointed as the CEO of Tian'an University Hospital. Within this capacity, Dr. Chen has long supported and advocated for the expansion of the National Health Insurance Corporation, a program which was established under the Lotus Party. Dr. Chen's three policy priorities are as follows:
↳ Ensuring the passage of the Kaizhou Healthcare Convention;
↳ Lowering income taxes;
↳ Increasing funding to the National Health Insurance Corporation.

Former-Chancellor Huang Zitao, 83, Dies After Battle With Cancer
Massive outpour of grief displayed across the nation at make-shift memorial sites
Image

KAIZHOU, Jiaozhi -- After a two-year battle with prostate cancer, Former-Chancellor Huang and incumbent leader of the Lotus Party has passed away, surrounded by his family and friends. In his final days, as it became clear that the former-Chancellor likely wouldn't survive his battle with cancer, he wrote a letter to be shared with Indralans after his death:

Dear Friends,

It is clear that my treatments have not achieved the results I had hoped for, and so I'm writing this letter in the circumstance that we will not be able to speak to each other again. To other Indralans who are on journeys to defeat cancer and to live their lives: please don’t be discouraged by the outcome of my own journey. You have every reason to be optimistic, determined, and focused on the future. My only other advice is to cherish every moment with those you love at every stage of your journey, as I have done this spring.

All my life, I have worked with a humble heart to make things better for my compatriots. Never was I more inspired than during the summer of 4255 when thousands of young people stood hand-in-hand and demanded justice from the authoritarian Pua regime. I reflect on this summer almost daily. The strength and unity of all those young faces looking directly into the eye of those who sought to hinder their democratic rights shot fear into the hearts of those cynical politicians, and friends, this will continue to be true. Indrala's young people have always been at the heart of our economy, our political life, and our plans for the present and the future. When our young people are empowered, our country shines the brightest. To all of Indrala's young people, never lose hope that a better tomorrow is not possible.

To all Indralans, thank you. Thank you for allowing me to serve you, for there has been no greater honour in my life. Friends, this country is one of immense possibilities. We can be a fairer society. We can ensure a stronger future for our children. We can honour and respect our elderly. We can restore the prestige to our name in the world. As I have so often said, my greatest realization in life is that confrontation, pessimism and prejudice are not inevitable. When we trust in the collective faith and good will of all of us, the best is yet to come.

Friends, I am writing this letter in the last few months of this century; the last few days of my life. As such, I have spent much time reflecting on the upcoming century. In this next century, it is my dream that our nation is the most beautiful in the world. By this, I do not mean the most powerful nation. Because we have felt the pain of being invaded by another nation in our history, I do not want my nation to invade others. It is sufficient that our wealth makes our lives abundant; it is sufficient that our strength is able to prevent foreign invasions. The only thing that I desire in infinite quantity is the power of a noble culture. This is because the power of culture both makes ourselves happy and gives happiness to others. This necessitates the return of a Son of Heaven.

Indrala must stand to benefit all of mankind. Together, we can write this kind of history.

Friends, if I can see a future for Indrala, so can we all. And so, as always, I implore you: dream no small dreams, and do not stop dreaming until your dreams come true!

The Lotus Party recently released a statement, which read:

Today, at 6:45pm, as the sun was setting, Huang Zitao took his final breath. We could not have been proud to stand with our humble warrior for the past twenty-eight years.

Biography

Huang was born on 13 June 4215 to poor farming parents in a small village located in Jiaozhi, Indrala. Huang has 3 sisters and 2 brothers, of which he was the youngest. Huang was enrolled in He Ze Dong Public Elementary School, where he received high marks, despite many absences used to assist his parents on the farm. He was enrolled in Jiaozhi Rural Secondary School No.37 where he again received high marks, despite his many absences. In the 10th grade, Huang became President of his school at the encouragement of his teacher.

Huang was inspired to become a Lawyer by his older brother, Bohai, who died in a car accident before he could get his degree. Huang attended Kaizhou National University after his military training discharge and claims to have worked three jobs during this time to finance his tuition. Huang graduated from law school top of his class, and went on to become a criminal defense lawyer. In 4245, two years after graduation, Huang was hired to defend a number of student protesters who had been arrested and tortured for publishing pamphlets critical of President Cui Zetian and her governing Republic's Conservatives. Huang stated in a television program in 4279, "After that defense, my life was totally changed. At first, even I couldn't believe that they had been tortured that harshly. However, when I saw their horrified eyes and their missing toenails, my comfortable life as a lawyer came to an end. I was disgusted that the highest authority in our nation had been used to destroy the souls of our young people. I became a man that wanted to make a difference in the world." He became a human rights attorney after that and used his power of attorney to participate in protest marches against the various authoritarian governments which followed.

Huang was approached by the Committee for a Fresh Alternative in the spring of 4251 and was shortlisted by the organization as a potential leader of what would become the Lotus Party. The committee later selected economics professor Wu Hán to be leader of the party but offered instead the position of "Party President" to Huang, which he accepted. Huang worked to recruit organizers and candidates that would lead the Lotus Party to government, and has widely been credited with the Lotus Party's success in 4258. Huang served as Party President from the party's founding in 4252 until after the 4258 election when the Lotus Party was propelled to government. Wu offered Huang the position of Finance Minister, which he accepted.

Following the 4269 general election which saw the Lotus Party defeated in favour of a Nationalist majority, Wu Hán resigned as party leader, which initiated a leadership election. Huang Zitao was elected party leader at the Lotus Party's 4270 Hangzhou Convention after the third ballot, narrowly defeating former-Justice Minister Yi Shufen, and Party activists Linda Wong and Thao Thanh Thai.

Mobilizing his connections within Indrala's emerging cultural industries, Huang held massive electoral rallies which motivated and inspired young people across the country, earning him the nickname "The Nation's Grandfather." In 4285, Huang's Lotus Party won a minority government During his 10 years as Chancellor, Huang ushered in major reforms which saw the Indralan economy experience major growth. Huang also faced major hurdles, such as Typhoon Yutu and the Dalibor Crisis. His handling of these situations was viewed positively by the Indralan public, but nonetheless, the Chancellor was embattled by vote-splitting on the left between the Lotus Party and the more radical NAP. This would eventually lead to Huang losing his re-election campaign in 4295. Following this, Huang instructed the Lotus Party to hold a leadership convention and planned to remain on as leader until the next leader could be elected.

Sadly, Huang would not live to see this as he lost his battle with prostate cancer two months before the convention. In his final days, Huang lived on a small duck farm outside of Kaizhou, Jiaozhi which he shared on his blog with his wife, well-known fashion designer Kim Bo-young. Huang is survived by his eldest son Huang Bohai, his daughter Huang Xia, the founder and Chairwoman of the International Children's Defence League and his youngest child, YingPop icon Huang Yao (known popularly as Yao).

CHANCELLOR DEVESTATED
Chancellor Zhang Zemin calls for a new era of civility and respect in light of late Chancellor Huang Zitao’s death.

Image
Chancellor Zhang Zemin sobbing in the National Conference later in the afternoon

April 29, 4299
[KAIHZHOU, SHU]: Chancellor Zhang Zemin was in tears this morning as he appeared in an exclusive interview with morning news in light of the passing of Huang Zitao, former Chancellor as well as leader and president of the Lotus Party. Zhang Zemin has been quiet as of late, avoiding the press and handing off important announcements to many of his close government ministers. Some speculated that he had fallen into a depression, while some speculated he was simply “taking time off”. It is clear now why Mr. Zhang has been so absent from the public eye. The interview was aired on every broadcasting station as well as online, and caught the attention of nearly every Indralan in their morning wake.

Zhang Zemin: Good morning my people, it is so pleasant to have you here with me. Last night at approximately 8:45 pm I lost a friend. I lost a confidant. We lost a national hero. Despite our differences you may be surprised to learn that Huang Zitao and I forged a great and vibrant relationship over the course of the past two years. This friendship was carved with the single strongest stone known to Terra – that is – the spirit of Indrala. Over the past two years, Mr. Huang and I discussed the future of our country, as well as the issues that haunt so many Indralans today. Together we drafted the budget that would become the Centennial Budget 4300, a modern and sophisticated restructuring of Indrala’s finances. Together we decided on the direction we would like to take the fifth republic, and he entrusted me to carry out his wishes as soon as the clock strikes 12:00 on January 1, 4300. Together, we healed wounds of past strife between Republicans and Lotusians. Together we discovered the key to life – friendship

*Zhang Zemin pauses to collect himself*

Image

Zhang Zemin: We must continue what Huang Zitao started. I must hold myself to higher standards - we all must do so. Our humanity is our greatest strength and our most beautiful character. Let us never lose the compassion we are gifted with - for life is far shorter than you perceive. I will stand up for my people. I will nurture my people. I will carry my people through thick and thin and never let my love for them go. I will never forget you Huang Zitao. We will never let you go.

SADNESS
After the interview, Zhang Zemin proceeded to attend the National Conference where Huang Zitao's death was announced by the speaker. His cries could be heard outside the chamber doors, and clerks were rushing up and down the aisles with tissues for all the members who were sobbing relentlessly. Huang Zitao's final bill - the "Fifth Republic Act" was announced on the floor to be voted upon. Unsurprisingly, the National Awakening Party was absent from the National Conference during the vote. After the proceedings Zhang Zemin retired to his office where he would spend the rest of the day.

State Funeral for Former Chancellor of Indrala
Thousands attend and watch funeral broadcast
30 April, 4298
Image

Huang Zitao's family, friends and politicians from all parties and many nations around the world joined thousands of members of the public to celebrate the life of the Former-Chancellor and Lotus Party leader at a state funeral Saturday in Kaizhou.

The funeral began after an emotional procession through downtown Kaizhou, attended by tens of thousands of well-wishers standing alongside the procession route while Huang's flag-draped coffin passed by on its way from the Jiaozhi Provincial Conference to the Kaizhou Conference and Exhibition Centre.

Huang's widow, fashion designer Kim Bo-young and his children Bohai, Yao and Xia followed the hearse on foot.

When the family entered and took their seats, people in the packed hall stood. Chancellor Zhang and the First Lady greeted Huang's family and bowed to pay their respects.

Image
The Chancellor and First Lady bowing to the family of Huang Zitao, seated higher up.

Unable to speak, former-First Lady Kim prepared a video message. "I'm sad, we're sad. But let us not look behind us, let's look forward, and continue Zitao's work," Kim said, wiping back tears, as part of a video tribute tracing her husband's path to power. Following the video message, various members of the Lotus Party, as well as individuals from non-profit organizations and foreign dignitaries gave eulogies.

Huang's youngest son, YingPop icon Huang Yao performed a number of traditional Indralan funeral songs with the aid of the Jiaozhi Children's Choir, before he too gave a eulogy. Speaking through tears, Huang said:
It's hard for me to imagine moving forward in my life without my father's guidance. In one of his many classics, Master Jienshi wrote, "Although your father and mother are dead, if you propose to yourself any good work, only reflect how it will make their names illustrious, and your purpose will be fixed." Thus, I will redouble my efforts to live a purposeful and constructive existence. I am lacking in many ways, and yet, selfishly, my one wish is that I can be reborn as my father's son. I hope that my efforts in this life can make me deserving of such a great blessing.

Following the ceremony, nearly 40,000 people gathered in downtown Kaizhou to say their farewell to Huang. Holding their cellphones to the sky, they created a sea of light reminiscent of Huang's massive 4285 campaign rally, which he often referred to as an "inspiring" moment.

Later this week, a separate funeral will be held for the immediate members of Huang Zitao's family where he will be interred in his family's memorial plot near the village of Kaisong, Jiaozhi.
