13 May, 4388

NATIONWIDE NEWS: Following a knife attack against former Republican League leader Jiang Zongren, the Emperor instructed the Imperial Household Agency to send aged puer and green tea along with prayers to Jiang. The Chief Counselor, Gao Yifen, also released a statement, in which he condemned the attack against the republican politician, and wished him well. The Chief Counselor stated that republican politics "have a history of violence" in Indrala, citing the 4274 acid-bombing of the Lotus Party HQ by republican terrorists. Gao Yifen urged all people in the country to maintain "civil discourse" and "national unity."

TIAN'AN, Han Province: Prominent PLP figures gathered in the Party's Tian'an Headquarters following the recent attack on Jiang Zongren inspired by radical republican elements.

After six hours of non-stop debating and discussing the party's future approach to republicanism, the leader of the Progressive Labour Party Song Ru called a press conference where she, alongside her party colleagues, announced the party will no longer support the idea of the Sixth Republic. This ends the party's support for the so-called "People's Democracy", with it's main tenant - republicanism - abandoned. The decision met with overall support from other parties and their supporters, with the exclusion of the Republican and Communist voters. Even the staunch republican elements within the PLP rallied behind their now openly pro-monarchist leader. Some confidential sources claim that this decision has been influenced by Lotus Party Leader Gao Yifen's recent remarks made in Taixi and Leader Song Ru's wish to co-operate with Lotus in the future.

Indrala is "monitoring situation" in Jelbania, issuing travel advisory to Mordusia, says FM Sung

TIAN'AN, Han Province: After multiple international developments, including increased tensions in Southern Seleya as well as Deltarian paramilitary incursions in Jelbania, Foreign Minister and Lotus Party President Sung Hyo-rin announced a number of steps taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to advance Indrala's interests.

"We will offer our full and total support to our partners in the region in ensuring the peace and stability of sovereign Jelbanian territory," said Sung, "dependent on the requests of our partners, namely our Vanukean and Jelbanian counterparts, we are prepared to dispatch whatever resources are necessary to complete these aims."

Additionally, Sung addressed the precarious political situation in Southern Seleya, with deteriorating relations between Mordusia and Saridan, complimented with varying bouts of sabre-rattling. Sung announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory to Mordusia, urging citizens to avoid making the trip at all costs. This comes in advance of the 4390 Rechtenburg Winter Olympics.

"Due to a very volatile, dangerous and unpredictable security situation, the government of Indrala strongly urges citizens against travel to the region. We also encourage citizens in this region to return home at the earliest convenience," said Sung, "If you choose to remain in Mordusia despite this warning, limit your movements and keep abreast of the latest developments."

Gao rides a brand new metro train in Haiwan, Anle Province

HAIWAN, Anle Provence: Following a terrorist attack against former Republican League Leader Jiang Zongren, the Progressive Labour Party has officially abandoned republicanism. The attack follows weeks of increased extremism among Indrala's radical republican factions.

Speaking to media at an infrastructure expansion announcement in Haiwan, Anle, Chief Counselor Gao Yifen said that he "personally thanked and congratulated" PLP Leader Song Ru.

"Song has again proved her pragmatic approach to politics by changing her position based on evidence," said Gao, "and that evidence is that time and again, republicanism in Indrala has proven itself to be violent, undemocratic and dangerous."

Gao's office has released part of a letter sent from the Chief Counselor to PLP Leader Song Ru, in which he wrote in part:

Gao Yifen wrote:...Your party, now having rejected republicanism, will hopefully be able to join us in resolving social discrimination and inequality to establish social justice for all Indralans...

Gao also unveiled an additional $1b in funding for LRT projects in Haiwan, sharing expansion costs with the municipal and provincial governments. As urbanism increases in Indrala's traditionally agrarian and rural provinces, public transportation projects have become a larger and larger component of public expenditure.

YM Entertainment share price drops as co-founder's descendents begin massive sell-off
"No major cause for concern," according to analysts

KAIZHOU, Jiaozhi Provence: YM Entertainment shares lost over $500m in value, following a massive and sustained sell-off orchestrated by John and Suzy Song. The two major shareholders are the children of YM co-founder Maggie Song.

YME opened at $61.88 before closing at $43.41, a decrease of 30%. Before the sell-off, Maggie Song's descendants controlled 29.9% of shares in the YingPop mega firm. At the end of the day, the Song's controlled just 14%.

Currently Huang Yao's descendents still maintain a combined majority of shares, though the company's float has grown considerably from 5,980,000 (20%) to 10,734,100 shares (35.9%).

Despite the devaluation of the share price, analysts say that there is "no major cause for concern" given YM's considerable YoY growth and strong financials. Moreover, the Song's announced early last year that they would begin to sell off their shares, and so the market anticipated the decline.

Sung Hyo-rin will not run for re-election, will resign as Lotus Party President

Sung returns a salut from a soldier as she inspects an army camp in Shu Province

TIAN'AN, Han: Foreign Minister and Lotus Party President Sung Hyo-rin has announced that she will not seek re-election in the upcoming 4391 General Election. Sung also announced that she would be stepping down as Lotus Party President, a role which she has held for the past twenty years.

Sung has been hailed as a 'Kingmaker' in Indralan politics, as she masterminded Gao Yifen's rise to the Leadership of the Lotus Party and his subsequent three-terms as Chief Counselor, in addition to having placed the SDP's Sunada Machiko in the role. Sung is also credited with having saved the Lotus Party from collapse, after former-leader Li Baihan led the party to its worst electoral performances in history, along with clutching to the leadership despite protestations from grassroots members.

"I don't want to turn seventy in the Grand Assembly," Sung joked, "I don't have the willpower of Count Lü [in reference to the 78-year-old leader of New Dawn]."

"Today I believe the state of our movement is strong, and so I can retire in peace," said Sung, explaining her decision, "and it's time for the young people in our party to take the reigns."

Chief Counselor Gao Yifen's office said that the Chief Counselor and Sung had been discussing her retirement for weeks, and that the Chief Counselor "sincerely and deeply thanks Mrs. Sung for her profound contributions to strengthening Indrala's democracy and the Lotisian movement."

An incredibly popular figure both within her party and among the broader public, Sung will be missed as a steadfast advocate for Indrala's interests at home and around the world. Sung will continue to serve as Foreign Minister until the General Election, while she will resign as Lotus Party Leader at the 4390 Tian'an Convention in December.

Biography of Emperor's mother sweeps the nation
The biography by Pan Heng has sold more than a million copies in its first month
28 November 4390

NATIONAL NEWS: To those who follow the Indralan monarchy, the name Pan Heng is nothing new. During nearly 40 years of journalistic coverage, Pan has penned some of the most intimate and exclusive interviews with Ryeo Kyunghee and Sun Luhan, parents to His Imperial Majesty, the Son of Heaven. Due to her unlikely and uncommon relationship with the nobles, Pan is widely recognized as the preeminent expert on the inner thoughts and feelings of members of the Imperial Household. Thus, her groundbreaking biography on the Emperor's mother, Ryeo Kyunghee: Living in the Shadows, in Public, has swept the nation, selling more than a million copies in its first month.

Conservative groups have protested the book, working to prevent its publication in advance of its release. In the view of many monarchists the biography is deeply disrespectful, having been written without the consent of Ryeo Kyunghee and focusing on the private lives of members of the Imperial Household. Pan herself knew that this book would be deeply troubling and therefore she instructed her daughter to publish it twenty years after Ryeo's death. Ryeo Kyunghee died in 4270, while Pan Han died in 4376.

The book begins discussing Ryeo's early childhood spent in Beonyeongsalm Palace. The youngest of her siblings, the mischievous young princess managed to get away with many pranks during this period. The book also discusses how Ryeo was, in a sense, raised by her older brother Prince Choesun VI, as her father was predisposed with the ever-worsening political situation in Dankuk.

A large portion of the book covers the 4292 raid on Beonyeongsalm Palace, Ryeo's time in hiding, her family's relocation to Indrala, her long romance with Sun Luhan, her family's return and subsequent exile from Dankuk, the death of her father and of her brother, and her time spent as the matriarch of the newly-emboldened Sun Clan.

In one chapter, Pan describes Ryeo as having symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, stemming from her early childhood spent hiding from the Taeyang regime. Pan also reveals that the Princess had trouble sleeping most nights, dogged by nightmares from her early experiences, and alludes that the Princess may have been taking prescription medication for general anxiety.

The portrait that Pan paints of Ryeo Kyunghee, however, is an overwhelmingly positive one. Pan describes a woman who, despite profound sorrow and trauma, overcame adversity and raised a strong and virtuous family. Pan closes her book by stating:
Pan Heng wrote:Princess Kyunghee was, to all who knew her or knew of her, the living embodiment of compassion, virtue and strength. A woman who's profound contribution to Indrala lives today as the Son of Heaven atop the Dragon Throne. A woman whose beauty, both internal and external, will never be extinguished from our minds.

KNU announces increased focus on domestic archaeology
KNU Chairwoman seeks to "uncover hints about our labyrinthian history."

Dr. Li Huanyu carefully excavates a terracotta soldier during a dig in rural Jiaozhi

KAIZHOU, Jiaozhi Province: Ma Sichun, Chairwoman of Kaizhou National University announced today that the 'KITE' institution would be performing a "record number" of archaeological digs in the years to come. This is in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Education as well as Haejo Imperial College, Dongjing University, the Siji Institute, and other private sector supporters.

"Hopefully, with an increased focus on making archaeological discoveries, we can begin to uncover hints about our labyrinthian history and culture," Ma said.

As Indrala is one of the oldest continuous cultures in the history of the world, contemporary archeological and academic findings frequently change the consensus view on Indralan history. It is clear that KNU intends to verify and/or expand upon the work of previous scholarship. The most recent profound discovery regarding Indralan history came in December of 3874 with Juan Martin's widely-published and accepted "Martin Divergence" theory.

Since the "Martin Divergence" most contemporary international and domestic scholarship regarding Indrala has focused on the modern history of the state, rather than the ancient or even pre-historic origins of Indralan culture. With KNU's enhanced focus on archaeological research, perhaps the consensus view on Indralan history will be altered once more.

Indrala's consumers are snubbing foreign brands amid growing national pride, says KM Financial
Survey says young Indralans will pay "significantly more" for Indralan products
22 January 4391

NATIONWIDE NEWS: Indrala is seeing the emergence of a generation of consumers who are more likely to opt for home-made brands, spurred by a growing sense of national pride, according to a survey by KM Financial of 22,000 Indralans between the ages of 18-29.

According to the survey, young Indralan shoppers are increasingly showing a “domestic brand bias” amid “a degree of nationalism” in one of the world’s biggest consumer markets. Analysts hired by KM Financial believe that the trend is attributable to the cultural revolution which placed the Tianshun Emperor on the Dragon Throne. A subsequent strong push from authorities to encourage citizens to feel more attached to the Indralan culture, including the opening of more Imperial colleges and universities may have influenced consumer habits, while another factor is likely to be the continually-growing influence of Indralan companies and media (YingPop) on the global stage.

In the survey, 41% of respondents answered that they would spend "significantly more" on clothing if they knew that it had been produced in Indrala. Similarly, 36% of respondents answered the same when it came to consumer electronics.

"When it comes to fashion, there is simply no other competitor," says 21-year-old Julie Wang, while shopping in downtown Tian'an. "Indrala's fashion industry is unrivaled, why would I even bother considering some cheap import?"

One sector in which Indralan companies underperformed other domestic sectors was in automotives. In the survey only 42% of respondants said that they "preferred" Indralan produced automotives to imports. Analysts from KM Financial have said that this may be due to the lack of high-range and luxury domestic models. Other than the six-figure Taiyang electric supercars, the Xiandai X-Model is one of the only Indralan-produced high-end sedans.

PLP Leader Song Ru adresses supporters at the party's HQs shortly after election results were announced.

MUDANWAN, Min Province: "We won because of reason and pragmatism, it paid off." said Song Ru shortly after the election results were announced.

During the election the Progressive Labour Party gained an additional 120 seats and increased their popular support by 17 percentage points. Many experts and politicians - including the PLP Leader herself - credit the party's amended stance on republicanism as the major factor in their victory. "It certainly convinced me to join the party" says Tan Meng, one of the party's youngest candidates for the Grand Assembly. Song Ru's previously uncertain leadership position has been solidified by this election with her inside-party rivals being sacked and replaced by younger, monarchist faces.

Currently the ProgLabs, as they're often refered to in both Indralan- and Luthorian-language media, aim to form a new cabinet with their former foes the Lotus Party, with whom they were at odds in the past, as well as the Social Democratic and Reform parties.

Results of the Election

The 4391 election, in the first time since the founding of the Republican League, gave the Republicans a majority and a possible mandate for government. With the Republicans taking 50,25% Of the Popular Vote, 335 seats have been given to the Communists, National Renewal and Republican League, out of the 668-member Assembly. Coalition talks are already underway to form a new government with all anti-establishment and Republican parties.

However, the Republican League is facing another loss of seats. Despite a Republican wave election, the League lost 9 seats and landed the last spot on the Republican 'Coalition of Chaos'. Chen Tianwei, however, has announced that no leadership election will be called in the short term. Chen has seemed to gain the trust of the members once more, as a Republican majority has finally been achieved after 20 years.

Lotus Party members elect former-model, writer and populist Xi Rushi as leader
Xi won 52.3% on the first ballot, over eleven points ahead of Kaizhou City Councillor Kubo Sugita
1 January 4392

TIAN'AN, Han: Xi Rushi has been elected the new leader of Indrala's federal Lotus Party, a result the legacy party hopes will reinvigorate its support after a disappointing showing in the last federal election.

Xi was elected with 52.3% of the vote on the first ballot, the Lotus Party announced at their convention today.

"It is a profound honour to stand before you today as the leader of our movement!" Xi declared to the crowd, "together we will protect our country; together we will rebuild our armed forces; together we will bring dignity and integrity back to our politics!"

Xi, a former model, television personality, writer, activist and self-described "fanatical nationalist," beat three other hopefuls for the leadership; Kubo Sugita, six term Kaizhou City Counsillor, Wang Kaihua, a small business man, and Zhu Hongjun, a progressive-Jienist scholar.

Image

"Let me send out a clear warning to the fake 'nationalists' who claim to be republicans: we're coming for you," Xi warned, "to those cowardly republicans who spit in the face of their parents and resort to violence and terroristic activities: your days are numbered."

Xi's personal brand of fervent nationalist populism has made her a notable figure among Indrala's political pundits. Now, as leader, Xi is expected to introduce a number of legislative pieces to differentiate her vision for the Lotus Party from that of former leaders.

"Change is coming, my compatriots: get ready," Xi ended her speech.
