Suspect Chen Gaowei is apprehended on the scene

TIAN'AN, Han: A man armed with a knife attacked a crowd of people outside the walls of the Heavenly City in central Tian'an, according to the National Police Agency, killing one and wounding three, two of them critically. The man killed was 22-year-old Park Dae-hyun, a member of the Emperor's Kyo Honour Guard, standing at his post along the Palace walls.

Hours later, the terrorist group "Martyr's of the Republic" claimed responsibility, describing the attacker as a “soldier of the cause.” The Supreme Prosecution Service, which handles all criminal cases including terrorist attacks, is taking over the investigation.

Prosecutor Liu Wang gave a brief news conference near the scene of the attack. He confirmed that the attacker, who has been identified as 24-year-old mechanic Chen Gaowei, had shouted pro-republican statements during the assault.

Ma Yingshi, 34, was posing for a picture with his eight-year-old son outside the Imperial Palace when he heard shouts. He says that he picked up his son, grabbed his wife's hand and ran from the scene "as fast as [he] could."

A few minutes later, he said, he heard sirens blaring as police officers rushed toward the assailant.

“I heard someone shout 'for the Republic!' and then I just heard screaming,” Ma said, adding that he did not see what happened next. “I was so scared that I just decided I had to do what I could to make sure my family was safe... I had no idea what might be about to happen.”

The Martyr's of the Republic group is the most public and notable face of pro-republican extremism. In 4274, the group sent acid bombs around Tian'an in advance of a monarchy restoration amendment, killing one security guard at the Lotus Party Headquarters. A year later, the group also claimed responsibility for collaborating with Chen Ruogang on the assassination of Green Party leader Song Yi.

The attack also follows a spike in pro-republican extremism, including the attack on Jiang Zongren eleven years ago, among other smaller incidents.

The Imperial Household Agency has not yet made an official statement, though it is rumoured that the attack has deeply concerned the Emperor. There have also been accounts of smoke rising from the Alter of Heaven.

Lotus Party foreign affairs critic joins Luthori in criticizing Indralan government
According to Liu, the governing "coalition of chaos" has "worked hard to destroy Indrala's international reputation"

TIAN'AN, Han Province: Luthorian Foreign Secretary Sharon Stinson levelled a veiled criticism against Indrala among others for its inactivity on the Security Council of the World Congress. Today, the Lotus Party foreign affairs critic Liu Jinghao has joined Stinson, deriding the governing Republican-Communist coalition.

"Rather than strengthening our position in the world, the 'coalition of chaos' is far more interested in passing economically ruinous bills and attempting to destroy Indralan culture," said Liu, "meanwhile Tang Zijing has led an absentee government that isn't concerned with Indrala's obligation to the world or to its own people!"

Stopping short of calling for the Chief Counsellor's resignation, Liu said that "swearing-in a new government needs to occur sooner than later."

"Tang and his gang of thugs have the gall to critique our Imperial Household, and yet, it is the Imperial Household alone which is engaging with the world," said Liu, "and frankly, that two teenage boys can navigate Indrala's complex relationships abroad and Tang and his cabinet can or will not says everything you need to know about this so-called government."

Liu called on the Foreign Minister Weng Yong (Communist) to work for "Indralans," instead of "ideology."

"Millions of people around the world put their faith in our nation to represent ideals of justice, humanity and liberty at the Security Council," said Liu "we must respect this mandate!"

Tang Unveils Ambitious Highway Plan

In the recent 'Infrastructure Week', Chief Counselor Tang Zijing unveiled the government's new Highway Plan under the banner of the 'National Highway Fund'.

Image
Highway Plans

With the tax hike for the rich passed years ago, the new revenue has not found its final destination as budget proposals were struck down time after time. With huge government reserves and nowhere to spend them, the government has proposed this new very ambitious highway plan to connect Indrala like never before. However, it is alleged that the plan will not only fully utilise the reserves saved up in the previous years, but also increase the size of national debt through the issuance of billions of INS in bonds.

In the province of Anle, a new 'Anle Bypass Highway' is proposed to connect the highway originating from Taixi to connect to the coastal ring road in between Haiwan and Beizhou. This highway will provide connection to the rural areas across the province's north and provide a bypass route for travellers going from Taixi and Tian'an to cities like Beizhou and Kaizhou in the north.

Another province-wide project is the 'Min Cross Highway'. The route originates from Tian'an's surrounding ring road, bypassing Dongzhou and Mudanwan to go to Mazhou and Lanbao. While the highway snakes east and west of the existing highway, it also meanders through the Min countryside, giving many Indralans greater accessibility. The journey between Mazhou and Lanbao will also be shortened significantly.

In the southern province of Han, the Guozhou Highway is proposed to connect Xujing to Guozhou, with a direct route as opposed to the current route on the Ring Road. Meanwhile, the long-disconnected Beihei will see one of its regional routes upgraded into a national highway. Mudanwan will also see a new cross-bay bypass to connect the city's suburbs, with a proposed 'landmark bridge' to go with it.

Crown Prince Yinju falls ill, Prince Jianlong exemplifies filial piety

Prince Jianlong (left) holds an electric fan for his father, Crown Prince Yinju (right) in a smuggled photo

His Imperial and Royal Highness, Crown Prince Yinju (58) is reported to be ill. Such terribly regretful news! Out of concern for his father's health, it is said that Prince Jianlong (22) has slept no more than one hour per night, and yet his care is constant and untiring. Additionally, it is reported that the Prince has been carrying his dear father on his back around the Imperial Palace, lest he should have to exert any energy. The Prince has never grumbled or resented the toil and tedium.

Despairing for his father's recovery, the Prince has personally been scouring the forests of Indrala in search of medicinal herbs and roots. Prince Jianlong has sent his younger brother, Prince Jianhao (20) and sister Princess Fengmian (19) to various holy sites across the nation to offer prayers and sacrifices for the Crown Prince's recovery.

While much can be said of the filiality of all three siblings, Prince Jianlong's one thought is to serve his father. This exemplary filial piety has caught the attention of His Imperial Majesty, the Son of Heaven, who has proclaimed:

"The father has just fallen ill;
His son’s heart aches uncontrollably.

In knowing what it is to be a filial son,
In a thousand years there is but one Sun Jianlong."

Chen Tianwei Appointed Head of National Highway Fund

As highway works start, Chief Counselor Tang Zijing has announced that Republican League leader Chen Tianwei will be appointed the head of the National Highway Fund. The fund is responsible for the nationwide highway expansion works, and has full power of borrowing and using government funds.

Chen Tianwei celebrating with his new letter of appointment

In the past years, Chen Tianwei has remained outside of the public radar as he had not held any major public positions. Despite being the leader of the Republican League, a major force in Indralan politics and even government, he had not been active in the Assembly. Some have even speculated that the Republican League has in fact had a coup within the party, replacing Chen with Tang as the de facto leader.

As this new appointment becomes public, some in the know has also heard rumours of Chen stepping down, saying that the position was a trade-off from Tang for him to finally get the official seat of the League's leadership. As the Party Constitution of the League dictates, the leader of the League is all-powerful and cannot be replaced unless the leader himself calls for an election. If the rumour is indeed true, this change will make Tang Zijing not only the top politician in Indrala, but also the dictator of the nation's second largest party, greatly consolidating his power.

Xi Rushi asks Indralans to "right the ship" in upcoming election
                     2 December 4401

NATIONWIDE: In one month's time, Indralans will be heading to the polls in the first scheduled general election since the Communist-Republican League coalition was elected. Lotus Party Leader Xi Rushi is hoping to win the support of Indralans to end a government which she has characterized as "incompetent."

In order to form government, the pro-democratic opposition parties (New Dawn, Lotus, Social Democrats) need to swing at least 60 seats from the Communists and Republicans into their column, assuming the newly-formed Democratic Justice Party doesn't win a seat. With the DJP voting in support extremist policies in the past it is likely that the party would be supportive of the governing coalition, and as such the pro-democratic margins would have to be higher. Thus, whilst pollsters have expressed the unlikelihood of a pro-democratic victory, Xi is not discouraged.

"Don't let them tell you it can't be done," Xi shouted to a crowd of supporters at a rally in Hazhou, Shu Province, "A brighter future is within reach if we work together!"

A consistent theme of Xi's message on the campaign trail is the necessity of "righting the ship," and correcting the policy mistakes of the coalition government. Xi, a self-described "fervent nationalist," says that through "patriotism, courage and compassion," Indrala's pro-democratic faction can win back control.

"Tang Zijing and his ragtag crew are trying to annihilate everything related to the our national identity," said Xi, "so long as this government is able hold 100% of the decision-making power, the only possible end result is the collapse of the State of Indrala."

Tianshun Emperor sends gifts to Count Lü on his 90th birthday
28 July 4402, 64th year of the Tianshun Era

His Imperial and Royal Majesty, the Tianshun Emperor, has sent a number of gifts to His Lordship Count Lü Yejun for his 90th birthday. The Count, who has been leader of the New Dawn political party and Chief Counselor of Indrala intermittently since 4338 is the first cousin of His Imperial Majesty.

Among the gifts were a 30-year-old wild ginseng root worth almost double the price gold by gram, a vase and a Qin-era fan-leaf painting valued around $17,000. The painting depicts a branch of peach blossoms, chosen for their traditional association with longevity, luck and immortality.
