Ryeo to Lü: An Indralan Life
Image

May 24, 4336
TIAN'AN, HAN

Born in Indrala and knowing little of life in his Kyo homeland, the reclusive 24-year-old Ryeo Yejun has publicly acknowledged his full commitment and loyalty to the State of Indrala and to the coming reign of his cousin, the Sun Emperor. After the suspicious death of his father, likely at the hands of the Dranian government, Yejun has intentionally avoided the spotlight. With the great controversy that emerged from his elder brother's critical statements regarding his family's past it became easier for Yejun to gather little attention. Of the brothers, Yejun was closest to their father, whereas Ryeo Seojun had been totally shunned. Nonetheless, Yejun also remained close to his brother and the two enjoyed their peaceful Indralan lives.

The attachment of the Ryeo heirs to their Indralan life not only created stress for their father but it also raised many questions among their family's long-time supporters in Dankuk. And after Seojun's open critique of his family history many loyalists have rallied around the idea of elevating the status of a "more loyal" branch within the House of Ryeo that could carry the legitimate claims of the family. While still technically the historic line to hold claim to the Great Kyo Empire and its other possessions, Seojun and Yejun have found themselves widely smeared by not just Ryeo loyalists but also the Hwangje-aligned media in the authoritarian Dranian state.

Seojun has made no secret of his feelings on the matter and has discarded much of his royal life in favor of pursuits with the FangCaiRyeo Group. Meanwhile, Yejun, who some thought might actually reveal an interest in fighting for the Ryeo in Dankuk, instead unveiled his feelings of betrayal by his homeland. Yejun lamented the support of the Hwangje dictatorship by the Dranian people and the ease with which the nation abandoned the Ryeo for a family that claims descent from historic entities that opposed Baekgu the Great. The Ryeo heir went on to express his gratitude for Indrala and how it repeatedly proved its friendship to his family throughout history, particularly in recent times as Indrala twice rescued the Ryeos from persecution.

Delivering the biggest shock from Yejun's statements, the Ryeo heir also announced his intention to permanently reside in Indrala and that his future children would take on the "Indrala-cized" surname of Lü. It has been suggested that Yejun's elder brother also intends to follow this change, providing any future children with the Lü name. Some have jokingly branded the family as Clan Lü, ranking them among the various noble clans of Indrala. But while it has been in humor, many do seem to think that the tone expressed in Yejun's statement is an indication of his view of his family's Indralan future as part of the noble class and as a rebuke against the betrayal he has felt from the "Kyo homeland."

Jien-Democrats Victorious, Commence Rebrand

It was a return to form during the 4340 general election with the people of Indrala returning the Jien-Democrats, the natural governing party, to power. Led by then-candidate, now Grand Chancellor, Zhan Zhi, the JDP delegates managed to take votes away from the Centre and Phoenix parties due to its right-ward shift, placing it as the leading party in the National Conference.

Having achieved victory, Grand Chancellor Zhan, the now defacto chairman of the party, commenced a major rebranding of the party, dropping the "democratic" from the name and adopting the rice stalk as the party's symbol, widely believed as a call to when the Jien-Democrats were the Jienist Faction and ruled Indrala without opposition for centuries. Now the Jien Party, the Grand Chancellor has managed to strike a coalition deal with the Centre and Phoenix parties, largely due to their similarity on a variety of issues.

Excluding the Lotus Party from government was not unexpected, especially given the JP and LP's rift on economic issues. However, the JP has expressed its thanks to the LP and a willingness to work together for Indrala's future.

Dr. Yi Junkai loses leadership review, LP to hold leadership election next year
Dr. Yi falls just short of the required 60% No vote
19 June 4336

Image

TIAN'AN, Han:Lotus Party Leader Yi Junkai suffered an unprecedented defeat Sunday as he did not receive the required level of support from his party membership to remain Leader of the party. Though Yi will remain in charge until a replacement is chosen, his party has decided its future lies elsewhere.

It is the first example in history of a Lotus Party leader failing to secure the minimum level of support from members of his party required to win a confidence vote.

The astonishingly low rate of support for Yi revealed a deep split in a party still reeling from the unexpected seat losses over the past two elections. It also speaks to the inability for Yi to personally connect to the electorate. For instance, while Lotus Party leader Huang Zitao suffered major electoral defeats, he received 92% support at his Leadership Review.

Image
While receiving a majority of votes, the Lotus Party constitution requires a leader to receive at least 60% confidence.

Yi took the stage shortly after the vote was announced, smiling, but visibly disappointed.

“The only thing that is important is that we leave here united,” he said. “To the extent that I have lead this party, without the support of our members, I sincerely and deeply apologize.”

The results, when announced, were met with varying reactions. While some delegates jumped into the air and pumped their fists, others broke into tears. During the convention delegates passed a constitutional amendment requiring only 50% approval in the future. After the convention ended, former-Health and Social Services Minister Zhou Huiyi declared his intention to run in the upcoming leadership election, becoming the first declared candidate.

Dai Jinhao Elected Lotus Party Leader!
30 August, 4337

Image

Results Overview

The 4337 Lotus Party Leadership Election fielded five exceptional candidates, including business innovator Dai Jinhao, former-Minister of Health and Social Services Zhao Huiyi, Han Assemblyman Xiong Xieren, feminist activist Meng Zhenya and journalist Sophie Wang.

Many observers predicted that the election would be settled on the second or third ballot, with polling showing the three front runners relatively tied. Nonetheless, the results of the first ballot secured a victory for Dai Jinhao at 50.9%. This represents the first leader of the Lotus Party to come from outside of the party's ranks.

Introducing Dai Jinhao, Leader of the Lotus Party of Indrala!

Image

Born on 17 November 4303, Dai Jinhao is the youngest Party Leader in the history of the Lotus Party. Dai was born in Kaizhou to lower middle-class parents; his father was a dock-worker and his mother was a public-sauna attendant. Dai was incredibly estudious, and developed a strong fascination with computer technology during his time in middle-school. In highschool, Dai developed the "LetsChat!" app, the popularity of which exploded before he graduated (Dai graduated at 18 in 4321, just before the graduation date was raised to 21).

After completing his mandatory year of service in the Air Force in 4322, the 23-year-old billionaire attended Kaizhou National University. During his time at KNU, Dai sold the "LetsChat!" application to TQ Group for an astounding $2.7 billion INS (the application would later be renamed TiqiTalk, and is currently Indrala's most used messaging application). After Dai graduated with his Bachelor of Finance degree in 4326, he founded Dai Investments, bankrolling much of Jiaozhi's innovative tech sector. In 4330, Dai was listed as one of Indrala's richest individuals under the age of 30.

Dai has been a lifelong member of the Lotus Party, with his father having been very involved in the organized labour movement. He was inspired by fellow venture-capitalist Linda Wong's activities within the party in which she "evenly weighed the social responsibility of government with market economics." A self-made multi-millionaire, Dai believes strongly in meritocracy and providing equality of opportunity for all Indralans. After becoming Leader of the Lotus Party, Dai Jinhao placed all of his shares in Dai Investments into a blind trust. Dai is married to actress Yang Xiaolu and the father of two young children.

Phoenix Party Relocates to Kaizhou
Image
Construction in Zhijia City District

December 3, 4337
KAIZHOU, JIAOZHI

Officially an outer district within the designated limits of Kaizhou, the planned community of Zhijia City, known legally as the Zhijia City District, has now become home to the central political offices of the Phoenix Party. The youthful and technologically-oriented city, a crown project of the FangCaiRyeo Group, began development in 4333 and construction projects remain readily visible throughout the vast majority of the area. Apartment blocks populate one part of the city, housing many of the employees of the FCR companies that are headquartered in Zhijia City. In another area, a vibrant promenade, home to Jinshan Entertainment, has begun attracting numerous businesses and restaurants, establishing the street as a central shopping destination within the city and as an essential tourist spot for fans of Jinshan productions.

The relocation of the Phoenix Party from the Tian'an to Kaizhou is no doubt a reflection of the party's vision for the future, an outlook which has been increasingly rooted in liberal economic policy and a focus towards technological innovation and development. Observations from the new party offices, which currently lack any obvious party branding, suggest more changes are to come for the Phoenix Party. Party Leader Gang Wu, whose own office remains in Tian'an, has admitted that his tenure may be short and that unity centered on monarchism is no longer an appropriate focus for the party. Gang went on to state that if the Secretary-General calls a vote that he will not stand for reelection, deferring to "the more youthful candidates."

It is widely believed that Minister of Science & Technology Lan Liao will compete for a return to the party leadership and rumors have also circulated suggesting the possibility of one of the Ryeo brothers becoming involved in politics. As it is unlikely Seojun will abandon his close involvement in FCR Group projects, Yejun would be most probable to enter politics, especially as an Indralan-born citizen. Another possible candidate is Minister of Health & Social Services Li Xun, though random polling suggests that Li has little chance of winning in competition against Lan.

Aside from likely leadership elections in the coming year, it is looking possible that the Phoenix Party may rebrand its entire organization and draft a new manifesto to guide the party. At the core, these changes would reflect the ongoing ideological shifts of the party but it could also risk alienating even more of the traditional membership that originates from the earliest days of the Phoenix Party as a fiercely nationalistic organization.

Phoenix Restructuring Official Ahead of Elections
Image
Interim New Dawn Leader Lan Liao

January 1, 4338
KAIZHOU, JIAOZHI

Coinciding with the new year, the Phoenix Party has officially announced the complete restructuring of their organization and the adoption of a new political manifesto to articulate their vision. Phoenix leadership has gone all-in on its commitments to technological development and liberal politics as it now brands itself as New Dawn. The new organization has aligned itself to radical centrism with major ideological inspiration drawn from neo-corporatism, technogaianism, and techno-progressivism. Originating from the Phoenix platform, the new party also has ideological basis in civic nationalism and liberal conservatism. New Dawn is being led temporarily by Minister of Science & Technology Lan Liao and it is expected that she will preside over the party through its first parliamentary elections later this month.

Central to the policy platform of New Dawn are the following points:
- Minimal regulation on new technological development and low tax rates
- Promotion of high-quality education, entrepreneurship, and innovation
- High-speed open internet and expanded digital democracy
- Increased energy and science research funding
- Greater global Indralan influence and extension of soft power
- Support for public transit and autonomous transportation systems
- Sustainable and smart urban development

Lotus Party Leader frames himself as centrist unifier, attacks hard left and right
Hoping to increase the Lotus Party seat count in January's snap election, Dai Jinhao is holding rallies across the country

Lotus Party Leader Dai Jinhao waves to the crowd gathered outside his Mudanwan hotel

MUDANWAN, Min -- Newly-elected Lotus Party Leader Dai Jinhao is eager to deliver results to his membership in the upcoming snap election. Dai painted his party as the only alternative to unify the country in a pitch to convince residents of Min to vote for the Lotus Party.

The "post-monarchist political debate," as Dai puts it, is one that will be fought on economic issues. To that end, the Dai delivered a speech in Mudanwan today that attacked far-left and far-right positions.

"Listen, we have four parties using two colours, and all four are proposing very extreme, childish policies," said Dai, "It is time for us, for this generation of Indralans to put away childish things. More, it is time for all of us to come together and get down to the very serious, very adult business of building a better country."

The division he says lies between the "red" parties (Social Democratic Party and Socialist Party) and the "black" parties (Warlord Party and Jien Party).

"We Indralans live in a blessed country. We are diverse, yet we are peaceful. We are tough but we are compassionate," said Dai, "we don't need to choose between hard laissez-faire policies proposed by the 'black' side and Metzist ideologues on the 'red' side. We can elect a government that encompasses the values of all Indralans."

Dai focused a specific part of his speech on the Warlord Party.

"This party proposes that modern Indrala be split up into warring states, each controlled by a tyrant. This party's existence is a reflection of the sad state of Indralan politics."

Dai will continue to travel the country, speaking to voters, until the election in January.

Lü Yejun Elected to Lead New Dawn
Image

April 2, 4338
KAIZHOU, JIAOZHI

Quickly rising from a life outside the spotlight, Lü Yejun, Ryeo heir and cousin to the Emperor, has officially entered the political scene with his popular election to the leadership of New Dawn. Since his immediate family's loss of support among homeland loyalists, Lü has been very public about his admiration for Indralan life and he began to find friends among the liberal nationalists of the Phoenix Party. Desiring to not let his family's legacy end with the murder of his father, Lü found greater interest in politics and, now recognized as the head of his family within Indrala, he hopes to forge a new destiny for the House of Ryeo.

As Lan Liao pushed the Phoenix Party towards official reorganization, Lü Yejun found himself seated on the founding advisory committee for New Dawn and, aided by nationalist support and backing from Lan, Lü established a base for his emerging political career. Leadership elections were set for April and it was not long before Lü positioned himself as a clear front-runner ahead of former Phoenix Party Secretary-General Fang Wei. Receiving nearly two-thirds of the vote, Lü Yejun has become the first elected leader of New Dawn.

Social Democrats Announce Early Party Conference; Party Leader Defends Against Lotus Party Remarks
The Social Democratic Party, after facing disappointing losses, have announced that their Party Conference will be scheduled for 4339, along with the customary conference 6 months ahead of the election.
14 January 4338

Image

TIAN'AN, Han: After what was quite the disappointing election for the Social Democratic Party, in which they dropped into the spot of Indrala's smallest party, the party's governance came out with a message. Delivered by Party Leader Fa Rong, the statement basically announced a new Party Conference, to take place in Taixi. Here's an exceprt of her speech:

"Hello, everyone! I know that the past few days have proven to be quite the disappoint to our party. We once held 57 seats, now we're at 29; we once were 5th largest in the legislature, now were last. Now, I'm not here to lecture you on how we've fallen, but instead to tell you to take strength in the fact that we can come back! We can still make great strides forward in the future. Due to what has occurred in the past few days; however, the Social Democratic Party will continue to hold a Party Conference in 4339, although it will now occur in Taixi. This will allow us as a party to come together and figure out how we will run in the coming years."

A Party Conference in next year could in fact lead to a unseating of the Social Democratic leadership and chancellorship, both of which are up for reelection in the party this coming Conference. It is; however, expected by many that Fa Rong will remain the Party Leader, as she continues to hold a high rating and large amounts of support. On the other hand, Zi Liang might not be so lucky. The failures in the Grand Assembly have actually been pinned mostly on him, as many say that the party has only decreased in status since his rise to the Party Chancellorship.

This wasn't the only thing Party Leader Fa Rong had to say, as the politician also made sure to lash back at what she called "untruthful slander" from the Lotus Party's Dai Jinhao.

"I also have few words for the Lotus Party. I find the remarks uttered by Dai Jinhao to be untruthful slander against the Social Democratic Party, and urge him to renounce his words. We (the Social Democrats) are not Metzists! Although both of our ideologies do in some form call for greater equality among our nation's peoples, the Social Democratic Party would never go in such a radical direction. Social Democracy, our core ideology, is about building a better society and a better country. Furthermore, I'd like to remind my Lotus Party colleague that our two parties have voted the same on 82% of the proposal that have gone through this legislature, so if we are Metzists, then they too are the same!"

Fa Rong also reaffirmed the Social Democrats' promise to keep on fight for the people of Indrala, despite the party's small size.
