4501 general election: Rockhopper triumphs over divided opposition

NEKHATW, HAWU MUMENHES/IKRADON — Jamie Rockhopper’s Justice for Ikradon surprised the world by winning a plurality of seats, but now he also has
a majority after the Great Judgement Court banned Mohammad Hammad’s National Justice Movement and declared their seats vacant mere minutes after
the results came out. In an election for an unnamed position simultaneously held by the Electoral Commission for unknown reasons, Da’rion Daniels of the
Royal Party beat Hammad with 52% of the vote. Rockhopper declined to participate, telling reporters “since [the position] doesn’t even have any powers,
let alone a name, what’s the point?”. It is believed that Hammad, a notorious fraudster wanted in more than 80 countries, has already fled to Kundrati.

Only 20% of eligible voters cast their ballot on Wednesday, making this the country’s worst turnout for a multi-party election in centuries, while polling by
researchers from the University of Soleb suggests turnout among Ikradonis (5% at the last election) skyrocketed to over 70%. Justice for Ikradon won 37% of
the vote and 36 seats, the National Justice Movement 31% and 33 seats, and the Royalists also 31% but only 31 seats. The dissolution of the NJM, however,
means only 34 seats are required for a majority.

Ecstatic crowds in Magrathea, the ancient capital of Ikradon, cheered Rockhopper as he declared “a new dawn has broken over Ikradon, and we are all -
Ikradoni or Esinsundu or neither - truly free at last”. His party has already drafted legislation to “restore the freedoms of ancient Ikradon”, proposing to
legalise abortion, allow individuals to officially change their gender, relax restrictions on immigration, and ban the use of weapons of mass destruction.

Government announces plans to bring back ancient Ikradoni alphabet
Image

NEKHATW, HAWU MUMENHES/IKRADON — The government has announced plans to grant the ancient Ikradoni alphabet joint official script status following
a consultation with community and business leaders. Currently, the Luthorian alphabet and Medu Netjer share designation as official scripts - but the former
is usually used only in international interactions, and many Ikradonis have little to no understanding of the latter.

Addressing concerns that the move would be costly for businesses, a $1 billion fund has been set aside to subsidise the cost of adopting the alphabet. It is
estimated that an additional $2 billion will be spent on making government services, educational materials, and more available in the alphabet.

“This may seem trivial to the outside world, but the the positive effect this will have on everyday life for Ikradonis should not be underestimated - many
Ikradonis find themselves currently unable to access government services or even use the same establishments as Esinsundu because of the script barrier,”
said First Minister Rockhopper.

4507 general election: Left-wing Esinsundu win as JfI stands aside - but
Rockhopper remains in power

Image

NEKHATW, HAWU MUMENHES/IKRADON — The centre-left Progressive Labour Party has won a landslide victory with three-quarters of the seats and just
over 74% of the vote, while turnout remained low at 38%. Although Jamie Rockhopper’s Justice for Ikradon party unilaterally chose to stand aside in
majority Esinsundu constituencies to avoid splitting the left-wing vote, this move now seems to have been unnecessary - the right-wing Nationalists
humiliatingly won no seats and less than 1% of the vote.

“This election has been nothing short of a decisive rejection of the establishment,” said Mr Rockhopper. “The Nationalists went in expecting people to vote
for their usual programme of genocide denial, corrupt authoritarianism and jingoistic militarism, and what they got was a bloody nose.”

For now, at least, the Progressive Labour Party is content to let Justice for Ikradon continue governing - but there is no doubt that Mr Rockhopper and his
party will now have to compromise with the more centrist PLP.

Setepenmnhs Hapu Declares Himself Rightful Heir to the Kingdom of Hawu-Mumenhes

Image
The new pharaoh as supposedly appointed by Mumenhes: King Setepenmnhs Hapu I

Hapu has declared himself Mumenhes' chosen successor to lead the Kingdom of Hawu-Mumenhes. In a quick and bloodless coup, him and a group of his followers have taken hold of the capital, the holy city of Nekhatw, and have declared him Mumenhes' replacement for the now defunct Saksoure Dynasty. Upon his arrival to the city a bolt of lighting happened to strike the nearest building, rather fortuitously for the would-be autocrat, causing many to alter their initial bemusement to genuine belief.

Soon after, those who witnessed the event marched towards the Temple and demanded the Priests of the Eye recognise Hapu as the nation's new Pharaoh. Upon hearing about the lightning, and concerned about the ever growing number of people in the street, the priests finally declared that, as according to scripture, Hapu was the chosen successor to the crown and was hastily declared King Hapu I and given the name "Setepenmnhs" or "Chosen of Mumenhes".

It is thought now that His Majesty will seek to secure the legislature through fresh elections and begin to reform the nation, though in what way is so far unclear.

Whilst many outsiders have already scoffed at the chaotic and random decision to place a dubiously self-declared holy-man from obscurity in charge of a nation which was once the envy of Terra, several people have already claimed to have seen His Majesty walking down from the top of Mumenhes Tower. Access to the tower is forbidden except for the highest of ranking religious officials, all of whom were accounted for in the capital. Furthermore it is well armed at its base leading many to claim that only through a link with Mumenhes himself could he have made it to the top of the tower.

Yet with the army pledging its support to the new power, with the Chief Commander being supremely religious, it is expected that, at least for the time being, Hawu Mumunhes has a new leader. What he is like, or how long he will last, remains to be seen.

Discussions underway over marriage between Pharaoh Hapu I and Princess Aminda of Zardugal

Image
Princess Aminda of the Augustan Empire, rumoured to be the future spouse of the Pharaoh of Hawu Mumenhes.

Leaked reports suggest that negotiations are underway between the Kingdom of Hawu Mumenhes and the Augustan Empire in regards to the marrying of our Pharoah Hapu I, to the new Emperor's first born daughter, Princess Aminda. Not much has yet been revealed by either side regarding the details, or even the validity of the claims that such negotiations exist. However, if these rumours are true it would certainly be foreign policy win for the new Hawu Mumenhes leader who would be set to marry the oldest daughter of a monarch who has no male heirs.

Current reports suggest that the proposal of marriage between the Pharaoh and the Princess Aminda are being conducted by the countries' respective Head of Governments, Vizier Kubu Mer-Amen and Grand Basilisk Aleksandro Koralo. The fact that the highest ranking officials of government are in involved within the negotiations would suggest the seriousness of the two sides when it comes to whether or not a deal can be reached.

For both this marriage would demonstrate a commitment to expand influence internationally, but perhaps more crucially cement their reigns at home. Both Emperor Basil IV and Pharaoh Hepu I have only recently taken their nations' thrones, and neither of them did it in particularly stable circumstances. The former took power from the heir-presumptive Dimitrus, in what can only be described as a machiavellian maneouvre. The latter, as already reported by this newspaper, led a religious coup and declared himself Pharaoh as appointed by Mumenhes.

Pharaoh Meets with Hard-Working Hawu

His Majesty, the Embodiment of Mumenhes, Hapu I today visited many of the hardworking Hawu within Hawu-Mumenhes. Appearing in a salt processing factory, His Majesty stated that it was Mumenhes was immensely proud of the hard work that ordinary Hawu citizens put in every day, and said that he hoped to reward them for fufilling their duty towards their nation and their God. This comes as the government seeks to pass the Restoration to Mumenhes' Economy within the Assembly by restoring the balance between workers and employers.

His Majesty talks to the manager of the salt-processing factory: tpy HmAt (Salt First)

The legislation, which requires the formation of Democratic Workers Councils has been criticised by many as an attempt by the autocratic governent to further grasp its control over the nations' proceedings. One anonymous source accused His Majesty of "tossing aside the Hawu people." Yet despite this, the pr nbw Xr Hr Tjaty (Under Vizier for Finance), Memphis Sa-tat-neb-enito, stated that the government was fiercely capitalistic. Talking to the Daily Scribe, Sa-tat-neb-enito stated that the government was building up a workers-first capitalist society, whereupon Mumenhes' people would share in the prosperity created by capitalism. "This is by know means an attack on capitalism," the Under Vizier said. "His Majesty the Embodiment of Mumenhes, the Pharaoh is fiercely deregulationist and believes that only private enterprise can truly stimulate socioeconomic growth and development. However, he has also been told by Mumenhes that such companies do not distribute this profit in an effective way unless nudged to by government. For that reason, he is merely making sure that everybody has an opportunity to celebrate in Mumenhes' given prosperity."

During his visit to the factory, His Majesty was keen to emphasise the working man as an integral part of Mumenhes' plan. Following his tour of the factory, he gave a speech to the workers, which lasted roughly twenty minutes. Following the speech, the workers applauded the Pharaoh for five minutes, demonstrating the devotion they have to our main link between Mumenhes and this Earth. His Majesty spoke of how Mumenhes reminded him of the support the people of Hawu gave him when he was placed on the throne, and that he felt compelled to give back to the people who helped him to fufill Mumenhes' vision for the country.

Postby DipLeChip » Fri Jun 12, 2020 2:18 am

NEW GOVERNMENT

After the collapse of the last government of the National Assembly, foreign missionaries of the Arab Doge Cult secured a political registration and contested in the new election wining 75/75 seats with no opposition.

Seeing it as an "Absolute Success", Owen Rico, leader of the party has proposed laws in the National Assembly that will make him the King of Hawu-Ikradon as well as reform the nation to base itself around the Arab Doge Cult.

The new King is expected to establish himself as the all powerful King of the nation until his death, where his heir will take his place.
