Amahlathi Advertiser
TERRA EXCLUSIVE: Kundrati magician conjures sun in a jar
August 3601

Image
Our reporter's artistic impression of the conjuration

Behold, a miracle! In a daring act of awesome ambiton, Kundrati abathakathi (OOC: wizard) Josu Azarol has conjured the sun in a jar at his remote wooden hut hide-out in the forests of western Amahlathi. Our reporter got to the scene just in time to draw a sketch of it (above) before tribal elders forced the abathakathi to conclude the experiment and arrested him for umuthi omnyama (OOC: black magic).

Azarol's stash of devilish tools

After investigating the scene, elders uncovered a terrifying array of magical implements, all of which Azarol admitted being the owner of and confessed to using in his conjurations. After consulting with the local sangoma (OOC: witch doctor), the elders ordered their destruction, followed by a special healing ceremony to counter the evil that had been invoked.

Crushing out the evil

Josu Azarol has now been sent to Chief Mlungisi to face punishment for his foul deeds. This incident was considered so serious that tribal elders have prepared a full and lengthy report for the Chief. However, they rejected our reporter's artistic impression of the conjuration, dismissing it as "inaccurate" and insisting the jar itself faded into thin air mid-way through the conjuration, before reappearing half an hour after the conjuration was finished. They came together and drew up their own sketch of what they saw.

The conjuration according to the tribal elders

It remains to be seen whose account Chief Mlungisi will find more believable.

OOC: Amahlathi is an especially backward part of Ibutho, where people mainly live in the forests.

Kundrati wizard confesses to practising ellektrickery
September 2601

Josu Azarol, the Kundrati abathakathi charged with using black magic to conjure the sun in a jar has confessed to practising the mysterious art of ellektrickery. He is now being tried by Chief Mlungisi and his Indaba (OOC: Cabinet) to assess whether he has committed a crime, and if so, how he should be punished.

Thamsanqa Shabangu, Minister of Science & Technology

Outlining the situation, Science & Technology Minister Thamsanga Shabangu explained:

Here in Ibutho, umuthi omhlope (OOC: white magic) is legal and welcome, but umuthi omnyama (OOC: black magic) is strictly prohibited and punished by death. We have determined that in this case, ellektrickery was definitely used. Many Ibutho, especialy in Amahlathi, are not familiar at all with ellektrickery. It is common in many other countries, although we have always discouraged it here because it reduces the potency of our warriors and makes them lazy.

Practising ellektrickery is not in itself a crime. It is only a crime if the intention was umuthi omnyama. To determine whether or not this was the case, we are subjecting the suspect to intense questioning and consulting our leading sangomas (OOC: witch doctors) to try to get to the bottom of what went on here.

The Ibutho people can rest assured they are safe under the leadership of Chief Mlungisi. He will always protect the innocent, but witches and wizards he will burn without mercy.

Second abathakathi arrested for sun conjuration

Alleged sun conjuration on Emabhishi Beach

An abathakathi has been arrested on Emabhisi Beach for publicly attempting to repeat Josu Azarol's conjuration of the sun. Observers were divided as to the success of the experiment. According to our reporter, who was on the scene, 103 witnesses thought the sun had been successfully conjured in a jar, 23 thought the sun had had not been conjured and 52 weren't sure.

Chief Mlungisi sends Ibutho Izimoto to liberate the Fire People
December 3602

Off to war: the Ibutho Izimoto preparing to depart from Emabhishi

Ibutho war elephants, also on the way to liberate the Fire People

To the astonishment of the international community, Ibutho's famously temperamental Chief Mlungisi has dramatically dispatched an Ibutho Izimoto (OOC: Ibutho Armada) to "liberate the Fire People from their oppressors". "The Fire People have always been good to us, and I love them as much as I do my own people," Chief Mlungisi said. "The rest of Terra are cowards, refusing to do anything to help them. But we the Ibutho are a nation of brave warriors, and where we see an injustice like this, we will not be afraid to put it right."

Aldegar has been through a period of political turmoil, and the Yazdeans (OOC: Zoroastrians) have lost influence since the recent military coup. Chief Mlungisi is an admirer of Yazdism, and in traditional Ibutho religion both Yazdān, Yazdism's creator god figure, and Shapur, Yazdism's founder, are regarded as deities.

The Ibutho Izimoto is said to comprise of 200 boats, 2500 impis or warriors, 50 war elephants, 3 bulls and a lion. Commentators are already expressing doubt over whether the Ibutho Izimoto is capable of surviving the dangerous journey across the Mad Dog Ocean, but Defence Minister Londisizwe Shabangu was last night in an upbeat mood, assuring reporters that "our enemies in Aldegar are already committing suicide and surrendering all over the place because they know we are coming".

Kundrati wizard receives pardon

Josu Azarol, the abathakathi from Kundrati accused of practising umuthi omnyama by conjuring the sun in a jar has received a royal pardon from Chief Mlungisi. The Chief determined Azarol was not guilty of black magic or causing any harm. However, he gave Azarol a very stern talking to, advising him to consult local elders before "attempting to dabble in ellektrickery again". In order to placate locals in Amahlathi, he gave orders for Azarol to be beaten 5 times across the buttocks with the horn of a goat.

Ibutho Izimoto drowns at sea
Chief Mlungisi faces crisis of confidence at home
February 3603

Image
Drowned: 2000+ men and all 50 war elephants

Chief Mlungisi's advisers warned him this would happen, but he ignored them. Now his worst nightmare has come true. The Ibutho Izimoto has sunk at sea, with more than 2000 impis and 50 war elephants drowned in the Mad Dog Ocean. This comes as a humiliating defeat for Ibutho and raises questions about whether Chief Mlungisi will be able to continue in office. According to a source close to him:

We all knew the Izimoto was unlikely to ever get to Aldegar, and that even if it did, it would be slaughtered by the enemy, who are much more powerful than us. Mlungisi has been out of his mind - so autocratic he thinks he's invincible. I'm not sure can hang on now. People in the Indaba (OOC: Cabinet) and Iphalamende (OOC: Parliament) are talking about forcing him to stand down. So are the izindunas (OOC: Ibutho's 10 tribal chiefs).

Chief Mlungisi is putting a brave face on events, telling foreign journalists last night that the dead impis and elephants will rise from the dead as tokoloshe - zombies.
