Ishida declares coalition with Ost! despite latter not having Diet seats
Albert Schauerte

Prime Minister and Member of the National Diet for Furunouchi Constituency Ishida of the FSU proposed today a grand coalition with Ost!, despite the latter not even having any seats in the Diet. The legislature is in an uproar over the move, which has not been accounted for by even the most generous of interpretations of Republic law, and as such is neither expressly forbidden nor permitted. All opposition, while formidable, came from the Opposition USSR, which claims that the situation's not being accounted for therefore makes the declaration null; members of the FSU and Ost! are arguing the opposite.
Ost!, or East!, is the first political party in Hulstria and Gao-Soto to announce contention in national elections since the USSR did so in the 4992 elections, the first truly democratic ones after Dremidydd Yarwood's death. A fiercely anti-capitalist, conservative, and pan-Dovanist party widely seen as the FSU's last major affiliate in the National Bolshevist and Meijist scene, Ost! has been the target of the USSR's ire over its alleged violations of the constitution by espousing what USSR officials are deeming racist sentiments. Analysts generally agree that this definition is, for the most part, correct, but see the laissez-faire capitalist USSR's movements towards a ban of the party as merely attempts to prevent the furtherment of the FSU/Ost!'s publicly left-wing policy goals.
Negotiations are continuing behind closed doors and are expected to terminate around November or December.

KSX sees correction over coalition fears

The Kien Stock Exchange saw a substantial correction of 14% upon Prime Minister Ishida's proposal of a coalition between the FSU and Ost!, which is expected to be formed in December and form a political force likely to badly damage the prospects of private business in the years to come, especially when the latter inevitably wins seats in the 5007 legislatorial elections. Analysts are, however, holding out hope that the political clout of the pro-business USSR will send prices rebounding, though many fret that it may use its proven illicit mob connections to do this. The most optimistic are actually predicting improvements as a result of a coalition regime coming into power, though these are widely considered to be fringe opinions.

Vics, Hul. nat.: NLM delays unnacceptable
Christopher Wandesleben

In a joint interview with The Republican News Network, Tamura Toma, a descendant of Iwaki Saka - one of eighteen Kunihito and Gisoten killed in a hate crime-cum-terrorist attack on the Neu-Liore Shipyards - were joined by Rudolf Einsmann, a representative of the Purple Duchy terrorist group which perpetrated the attacks, in expressing outrage at the near century-long delays in the construction of a memorial to the attacks onsite. Tamura said that due to the highly publicized nature of the attacks under the Kunihito-dan Kettō, her family had expressed that the dictatorship would at least come up with some designs in the more than fifty years it was in power and thus do some good, but alas it had not been so. She emphasized the fact that the concrete base only started to be laid just before the dawn of the millennium and that it is still being laid, saying that "this really...speaks to the lack of interest on the part of the government in memorializing the attack, even if it was unjustly politicized by the [Teikoku Sensen]. We need a space in which to think about and commemorate the people we lost."
Einsmann followed up by expressing a sense of urgency in completing the memorial soon, saying that it needs to be composed of "a highly distinct, a solemn and - and substantially recognizable icon of the neighborhood." He and Tamura, however, did say that they appreciated the final design, with the former looking upon the fact that it is particularly large, that it contains a small museum with its own subway station, and that the proposed obelisk will be visible from some distance away as favorable.
Tamura said that it should be open to everyone, including young people, old people, those descended from victims and those not, with Einsmann adding "people in wheelchairs who cannot get around particularly fast. The President or Prime Minister can come there on the anniversaries of the attacks."
A wave of online support for Tamura and Einsmann's sentiments appeared shortly after the interview, with those deigning to be against the construction of the memorial regularly dubbed disgusting and disrespectful by most, with a few, including far-right activist Lukas Lux cryptically asking on Tweeter 'Do you want the movement to fail?'

東!/ Ost! CEO Miki Yoshimatsu confirms coalition talks with FSU
Carsten Häussler
12:05 (HGS) 1 February 5007

The founder and current CEO of the East! party, has finally given a public response to the cries of people demanding an answer to the long left-unanswered question of coalition talks with the FSU. Mr. Yoshimatsu confirmed the cooperation between East! and FSU after the whole ordeal has been debated for about a month, with neither party giving clear answers. However, the Free Social Union has shown their support towards the East! party, and shown signs of similar values with their voting patterns, so CEO Yoshimatsu agreed to the deal, after some thinking. "I do believe we can achieve a good cooperation with the like-minded party." stated the CEO, upon confirming the news. The new proposed, and now passed cabinet will introduce 4 extraparliamentary members of the cabinet, all from the East! party: Basti Wenz, Infrastructure and Transport; Eleonora Unterberger, Science and technology; Akiba Yumi, Food and Agriculture and Suou Kunimichi Environment and tourism. "These positions are extremely important to us, and we will do anything we can to keep the rural areas well represented" said the newly appointed minister of Environment and Tourism, Suou Kunimichi.

Opinion poll: Who supports Ost!?
Takeshita Akemi
1:00PM (HGS) 3 January 5007

About 10 thousand citizens of Republik von Hulsterreich und Gao-Soto were polled about their views on the rising East! party. Approximately 50% responded with "unsure" as the party is still relatively new, but the party has received massive support concentrated in the rural areas of the country, as well as high population centers with many foreign Dovanian citizens. Of course this didn't come as a surprise from the party that actively promotes these two categories. But many of ethnic Hulstrians and Gao-Sotoans have also pledged their support for the party, which actually might be enough tip the balance on the two-party system currently ruling the country.

Since the last year, when the one-car policy was adopted with the 東!/ Ost! manifesto against western systems, car crashes have substantially gone down. Coalition takes cake; Ost!'s Yoshimatsu, FSU's Lerch sworn in as Pres., PM
Matsui Sanjiro
12:32 PM (HGS) 15 October 5007

At precisely 11:00 AM, the new National Diet was sworn in along with President Miki Yoshimatsu (Ost!), with the former electing Paulus Lerch (FSU) of Ost-Labsburg Prime Minister at noon. For the first time in Hulstrian and Gao-Sotoan history since the pre-Imperial era, the executive has been split between two parties; this is also the first time in a long time when no single party had a majority in government, and is the first time that the FSU or its long line of predecessors (namely the NAFR, the Teikoku Sensen, and the KDK) has been shunted into a minority by normal elections. Ost! has also won seats for the first time.
Across the various parties, the USSR holds the plurality with 291 seats, or around 38.8% of the Diet - having lost a mere four seats, or 0.53% of the DIet. The other 459 seats are split between Ost! at 264 seats (35.2%, 0.36% less than the electorate share) and the FSU at 194 seats (26%, a far cry from the old majority of 455). However, Ost! and FSU formed a coalition last year and together hold a majority of 459.
With Ost! dominating the legislative coalition but the FSU controlling the more powerful executive positions, supporters of only one both fear that the alliance will fall apart easily, especially considering that the year leading up to the elections saw major disagreements over a stretch of surprisingly liberal bills proposed in absentia by Ost! For now, at least, the USSR will be kept in check, and any attempts it makes to ban Ost! to nullify the FSU's power will surely fail.

What the results mean for you
The Editorial Board
12:35 PM (HGS) 15 October 5007

In many ways, the political situation is unstable, though considering the rather peaceful nature of Hulstrian and Gao-Sotoan politics today, we assure you that it is in no way dangerous. The USSR is clearly corrupt and has taken a publicity hit; Ost! and the FSU are in a coalition that is not as comfortable as they had hoped, and the Diet has become a shouting match. Here is what we here at The Republican can expect for the continued state of politics in the country and for you:
  • The USSR may try and fail to ban Ost!.
  • Ost! may attempt to ban the USSR over corruption concerns, but the FSU will hold the former back to keep the existence of a scapegoat for any policies.
  • The coalition may collapse shortly before the next elections.
  • You may be taxed more heavily.
  • Ethnic Hulstrians may find many cultural outlets at risk of being neglected or shut down.
  • Ethnic Dovanians may find more cultural outlets.

Lerch announces new constitution drafting

Lerch announces new constitution drafting to fix flawed constituency system
Araya Teriuhi
10:06 AM (HGS) 17 December 5007

Prime Minister Lerch announced today that the FSU had begun drafting a new constitution to change what he described as "the frankly idiotic electoral system". He emphasized that the constitution's passing will not alter the existence of Hulstria and Gao-Soto as a nation in any direct way - "This will still be a republic; this will still be the great nation that was founded in 4977" - but also said that it will be a fundamental enough change to warrant the drafting of a fresh constitution.
At present, the constitution states that there shall be 750 members of the National Diet - no more and no less. They shall be divided across the provinces equally, with each member representing a single constituency. This has led some to point out that any territorial alterations still permissible under the Treaty of Maerang will lead to general inconvenience.
The new system proposed under the 5007 Constitution, instead, proposes that the equality of distribution shall lie in terms of the number of constituencies, each represented by ten Diet members in order to allow the will of the constituencies to be made manifest while also fostering quorum within parties. Each province shall have the same number of constituencies, with each constituency taking up an area with just as many people as each other constituency in the province.
For example, Provinces A, B, and C, with three hundred, six hundred, and nine hundred people in them respectively, are all divided into three constituencies equally on the basis of population. Constituencies A1, A2, and A3 all have one hundred living in them each, B1, B2, and B3 have two hundred, and C1, C2, and C3 have three hundred. Each constituency shall elect ten of their own to the National Diet.
The change is unrelated to policy goals to the point that analysts have deemed it innocent enough - necessary, even - but some are worrying that the USSR's animosity towards the FSU will mean that it will oppose it - retaining the 4977 Constitution - for no other reason than the fact that the change was made by the FSU.

Psychotic man claims Tanigawa lives, inadvertently exposes mistreatment
Matsui Sanjiro
9:45 PM (HGS) 16 December 5007

Akita Ineno, president of the Solemn Rock General Institute, Sizu's premier private mental health institution, was holding a press conference in the lobby tonight regarding ethical treatment of patients when badly psychotic patient Kobayakawa Yorisuke barged in on the scene. He shoved Akita out of the way and immediately yelled at reporters that universally despised war criminal and architect of the Great Night, Tanigawa Kazuki, was in fact alive. Kobayakawa was then tackled by guards, who were seemingly about to beat him before remembering the presence of the press, and was restrained before being marched back to his room. Reporters immediately began questioning the veracity of Akita's statements once she got up.
Tanigawa Kazuki was Coordinating Minister for Will in the time of the Empire of Gao-Soto, handling the regime's propaganda and taking point in directing it ideologically as the de facto head of the Teikoku Sensen. Furiously Hulstrophobic, even by the state's standards, he died defending a shrine near a retreat popular with government officials from Rowiet paratroopers with nothing but samurai armor and a katana. His body was dumped into a nearby stream feeding into the HIgashi-Kawa river, presumably drifting into the latter and out into the Sea of Carina.

New constitution to face final vote tomorrow
Frida Junkermann
2:00 PM (HGS) 16 July 5010

Diet President Misaki Aoki announced today that the new Constitution of the Republic of Hulstria and Gao-Soto is due to be put forward to the National Diet tomorrow. The 5010 constitution, Misaki emphasized, will require a two-thirds supermajority to be passed, and if it so is, will not affect the existence of Hulstria and Gao-Soto in any way. The 5010 constitution will only fix the long-maligned electoral system, which currently mandates (in Chapter III, Article 1b) the existence of 750 seats in the Diet, each representing one constituency. In anticipation of the bureaucratic headaches of territorial changes as well as understanding the hasty manner in which the original constitution was drafted, the FSU started work on the constitution, as announced by Prime Minister Lerch in late 5007.
This new constitution, however, lifts the 750-seat requirement and makes every constituency represented by ten members of the Diet to foster quorum. The number of constituencies in each province is equal and there is no difference in population between one constituency and any given other within the same province, though it certainly may be different from constituencies in other provinces.
While the FSU/Ost! coalition currently holds a majority of Diet seats (459, or approximately 61.19% of all 750), the two-thirds (66.6%, or 500 seats) requirement as well as what analysts see as a substantial likelihood of the USSR (291) opposing the constitution solely because the FSU proposed it means that it may well be doomed.

H-13X makes first flight since war's end

1:36 PM (HGS) 16 July 5010

For the first time since the end of the Great Dovanian War, when all of the Nakai H-13X and H-30 fighter jets that made up the Imperial Air Force were put in storage indefinitely, one of the former has flown. The semi-stealth fighter, piloted by Ralf Uhlmann and operated by Aviantiquita Hulgao, flew from 1:02 PM to 1:31 PM around Aviantiquita's airfield in the western fringes of Kien, clad in test dummy livery with around 9,000 in attendance - and countless more aviation enthusiasts surely flocking to nearby apartment building roofs and balconies.
Uhlmann, an honorably discharged Air Force veteran fighter jet's 30 mm cannon was loaded with blanks, allowing Uhlmann, an honorably discharged Air Force veteran, to put on an impressive firing display for viewers which people from up to five kilometers away reported being able to hear.
The H-13X was the product of a vicious fighter design competition in the early days of Teikoku Sensen rule, and is considered to be a shameless copy of Trigunian designs.

Satirical film in which Chojo lives again pulls in millions

Satirical film in which Chojo lives again pulls in millions
Carsten Häussler
8:04 PM (HGS) 14 October 5022

Are wa Dare? (あれは誰?, Who's That?) closed its first weekend in theaters by earning a whopping $48,851,452 on a budget of approximately only $4 million. The satirical comedy, directed by Lea Voit, is about Kidehi Chojo (Osada Hachigoro) reappearing in 5021 on the anniversary of his execution on 10 January, 4958. While it does have a defined plot, much of the movie is defined by unscripted scenes featuring Osada in character as Chojo talking with Hulstrians and Gao-Sotoans unaware of the film's production at the time of filming. Be warned: spoilers are ahead.
On that anniversary, Chojo wakes up on the site of his former gallows and stumbles around modern Idōwa, under the assumption that Imperial Gao-Sotoan forces had somehow managed to violently end the Rowiet occupation of the country between his death and the Empire's official surrender. The various Idōwans he encounters all are under the impression that he is merely an actor. Upon seeing ethnic Hulstrians interacting with Kunihito and using facilities that were off-limits to Hulstrians during the Imperial era, a shocked Chojo sees a television news feed in an electronics shop, discovering that it is 5022. He faints.
Watanabe Naritake, who was filming a documentary near the site of Chojo's execution to commemorate it, is fired from his television station for having a 'Chojo impersonator' in the background of his footage. He investigates and finds an awakened Chojo in the electronics shop, ignored by the owner and shocked at these new revelations. To save his career, he recruits the de facto triarch to talk with various citizens, with the footage to be posted on CeeRTube. Chojo agrees, and they set out to interact with real Hulstrians, Hulstro-Mikuns, and Kunihito alike across the country.
The popularity of the CeeRTube videos prompts Watanabe's station to hire Watanabe again as well as Chojo, to create a comedy show starring him. It becomes a hit, but a rival of the existing station management releases incriminating footage of Chojo cutting the head off of a rabid cat, prompting Watanabe's and Chojo's firing and his promotion. Having discovered the Internet, Chojo starts penning an autobiography about his experiences titled Are wa Dare? in which he compares fascist Gao-Soto and democratic Hulstria and Gao-Soto, critiquing 'Ina and Yarwood's bastard child of a party' (the FSU) and the 'Flormart KDK' (Ost!) while praising the USSR-PAC. The popularity of the book compared to Watanabe's old station, which is floundering under its new management, prompts Watanabe and Chojo's rehiring yet again.
As Chojo heals after being attacked by offended hardline Ost! members, Watanabe realizes that the 'perpetual method actor' was in fact Chojo himself, seemingly back from the dead. When nobody believes him, he has a violent outburst in Chojo's hospital upon discovering that the latter has left, and manages to chase Chojo to the station rooftop, killing him; Chojo nonetheless appears behind Watanabe again and states that as long as the Gao-Sotoan people hold a part of him in their hearts, he is immortal. The chase and all succeeding events are revealed to be scenes from a movie based on Are wa Dare? starring Chojo and a body double as Watanabe, who is in fact in a mental hospital following his outburst. Chojo, still perceived as an unidentified method actor, becomes a political star; the film ends with a scene in which he rides through Idōwa in a convertible as Kunihito nationalists salute him, in turn ending with a shot of a confused Hulstrian man.
With only a few days before the national legislative and executive elections, it is obvious that this is commentary by Voit, a liberal in a political landscape dominated by conservative partes, on the political attitudes of the post-Imperial Hulstrian and Gao-Sotoan. Some critics artistic have called it a tangle of well-worn tropes; critics political are condemning it for not being critical enough of fascism and being overtly commentative on Hulstrian politics. For the most part, however, it does well; in addition to its stunning opening weekend figures, Are wa Dare? has a 79% approval rating on Fresh Potatoes. Many see the movie as having a strong chance of becoming both a cult classic and one of the most famous Hulstrian and Gao-Sotoan films of all time.

Man saves cat from flood
Matsui Sanjiro
3:56 PM (HGS) 14 October 5022

When a dyke burst in Luthorische Bai, flooding a coastal street, it seemed that all hope was lost for little Anton, an orphaned black kitten clinging onto a fast-moving tree branch for dear life. This would be justified sentiment if Joachim Schönlein hadn't abruptly stopped saving his drowning mother and dived into the water to save the 19-gram cat.
In a statement after the daring rescue, Schönlein said that "the moment I looked at little Anton here, I knew I would be inconsolable if anything happened to him, so I just dropped everything and dived into the flood." When his mother's dead body timely resurfaced and he was asked about her condition, he said "oh, yes, that's very bad."

PRESIDENT SOGA DEAD
December 27, 5021
Image

On December 26, 5021, President of the Republic Soga Masahiro was assassinated by the Communist extremist and youth Shimada Hisashi. Shimada, only 17, was a member of the political party "Core Faction of the Revolutionary Proletarian Pole"; a libertarian Metzist party that currently holds 2 seats in the National Diet. When asked for justification for the murder in custody, Shimada said that "Soga [was] a capitalist pigdog who drove the proletariat to ruin and led to a reinstatement of the grossly exploitative system the people suffer under today". Shimada currently faces life in prison. The Core Faction nor its' leaders have yet to issue any statement on the matter.

President Soga was stabbed in the abdomen with a Wakizashi, a type of traditional Kunihito sword, and bled to death quickly. Authorities hoped that his rotund stature would save him, but the President died before doctors could operate on him. A controversial but charismatic leader of the Hulstro-Gao-Sotoan right; Soga was a leading proponent of de-privatized capitalism and laissez-faire socioeconomic policy in the nation. He has been both credited with Hulstro-Gao-Sotoan economic growth and prosperity by supporters and accused of leading to extreme income inequality, commodification, and loss of security by critics.

Condolences quickly poured out from all walks of life, even Soga's most ardent political opponents. FSU Chairman Ishida Tsuneharu gave the following remarks:
Soga Masahiro was a uniting symbol of our nation and was an interesting man to work with, helping further democratic checks and balances during his time in office. He will be missed.
Ishida has become a controversial figure in the past months after charges against him involving Crimes Against Humanity by the Supreme Court. Although he was the first democratically elected President of the Republic post-Waryud, Ishida was complacent with the Waryud regime during his time in the former NAFR and also implicated with several bribery and embezzlement charges after residing over the partial privatization of the economy in the 4990s. Ishida, extremely frail and advanced in age, has nevertheless avoided actual court purportedly for health reasons.

The incident appeared to attract regional, if not international attention, when heir apparent of the Kyo government Gim Chaeng Ir expressed his government's sorrow at the news.
I would like to express condolences on the assassination of your state president. Despite standing on the side of socialism and therefore not sharing much common ground with you, we condemn this act of individual terror. Killing single persons does not improve the people´s livelihood and is nothing more than an act of terrorism.
The remarks admittedly caused some confusion amongst the public - specifically the Kyo expression of "warmly pressing your hands" was literally translated as a closing on the letter. It attracted some scrutiny.

A mourning period has not yet been declared by the government; but already nearly every political group has universally condemned the violence and has called on the Supreme Court to dissolve the Core Faction for disturbing the peace and violating the constitution. Since the fall of the Waryud Regime in 4991 the Supreme Court of Hulstria and Gao-Soto has been relatively lax, not daring to disrupt political parties for the most part. However, the Soga assassination has opened public debate over extremism, and whether the government should not only ban dangerous parties, but certain ideologies from being publicly advocated for. It remains to be seen whether this will actually happen.

FSU intraparty changes: a Fahr premiership in 5027?

FSU intraparty changes: a Fahr premiership in 5027?
Matsui Sanjiro
12:35 PM (HGS) 10 December 5024

The FSU Presiding Committee announced today that it was in favor of ex-President and ex-Vice Chairman Thomas Fahr, now Diet Member for Altendeck, being made Prime Minister in the 5027 general elections. Fahr responded with a statement accepting the Committee's de facto nomination, and many leading FSU members followed suit; Paulus Lerch declared him a worthy successor with the experience of two presidential terms behind him, while the late Ishida Tsuneharu's son Ishida Hideteru said that the ten years Fahr and Ishida had spent in government together had revealed the former's trustworthiness and reputability.
Responses from the various wings of the PPPP have been mixed. Some 'Metzist-Leonidist-Yarwoodist-Waryüdists' are wholeheartedly welcoming the Committee's announcement, saying either that the Yarwood-nostalgist Fahr 'will be a great catalyst for the National Bolshevist cause' or that he 'is the new Metz, capable of bringing into existence the Hulsterreiches Arbeiterreich'. Fascists are deriding him as a 'senile, liberal commie', while many mainstream communists and social liberals are simply describing him as 'an old fart'.

New sovereign wealth fund established
Frank Küchler
11:05 AM (HGS) 9 December 5024

The Ministry of Finance announced today that it is establishing a new sovereign wealth fund. Dubbed Republican International Development Holdings (Republikanische Internationale Entwicklungsbeteiligung, 共和党の国際開発持株, RIEB), it is being managed by the government for the stated purpose of using generated returns to ease tax burdens on Hulstrian nationals while maintaining current qualities of life. Analysts are seeing it as a move by the FSU to curry favor with any future authoritarian regimes that may arise, which may be hard-pressed to find the necessary cash and will require a surplus to help weather problems they themselves create.
RIEB is already waiting for investment requests. With a sudden worldwide spike in demand for naval modernization, it is likely that RIEB will have a hand in some of it, but it will need to pick its beneficiaries carefully in that respect. Rumors are swirling around that it may be looking to help fund Deltarian infrastructure while that country teeters on the brink of recession as an alternative to any maritime adventures, though outfunding an increasingly influential Lourenne is also a particularly enticing hypothetical goal.

Immigrant SGPR/SGKS chief insulted
Albert Schauerte
3:43 PM (HGS) 10 December 5024

A man in Syakusen-Graaffsberg identified only as 'Walter' accosted a naturalized immigrant of Keobi descent with myriad insults and slurs, telling him "to go back to your own [profanity] country, you [profanity] [profanity] hole-[profanity] [slur]." After approximately two minutes of this verbal abuse, two nearby SGPR/SGKS policemen intervened and seemingly took the immigrant away, much to Walter's enjoyment - only for him to overhear them conversing calmly and respectfully with the 'criminal', in fact Akubundu Chiemeka, Chief of the Syakusen-Graaffsberg Police Department.
Chiemeka was, at the time, out of uniform, and was departing from a personal check-in on the family of one of the victims of the Greenery Gunman to go and pick up a birthday present for his niece. Passing an old apartment, Walter then noticed him and began maligning the policeman of fifteen years before Chiemeka's subordinates intervened. Walter then proceeded to apologize profusely, but Chiemeka did not respond as he was taken to his destination by an impromptu police convoy.
The entirety of the incident was recorded and uploaded to CeeRTube, and original videos of it garnered millions of hits within the hour. From his home, Chiemeka himself uploaded a video expressing a sense of humor about the whole affair, but also concern for the future safety of his children, who he said "may not have such a position as Chief of Police there to protect them when they grow up". Walter was found, but declined to comment.
Chiemeka came to Hulstria and Gao-Soto in 5002 seeking work, and bounced from job to job while learning Dundorfian as well as Kunikata and Hulstro-Mikun simultaneously before finally obtaining his citizenship and joining the police force in 5009. He quickly rose through the ranks and developed a reputation for integrity as well as the building of attestable relationships with members of the community.

No, Fahr is Not Going to Bring Back the Waryud Days
March 23, 5025

There has been much, frankly undeserved shock reverberating in Hulstria and Gao-Soto over Thomas Fahr's FSU nomination for the Presidency. The announcement came right on the heels of the ratification of the 2nd Constitution of the Republic, which among other reforms enshrined Waryud's heavily controversial legacy into the supreme law of the land, and removed Presidential Term Limits. The FSU, facing an increasingly stagnating economy and unhappy populace with little prospects of future improvement, appears to be relying on both the critical support of the PPPP and it's ability to invoke favorites of the past. Despite his authoritarian social policies and indirect hand in the cataclysmic rise of the Akairoji Syndicate during the fallout of his regime, Vatervondrem Waryüd is reluctantly revered by many Hulstro-Gao-Sotoans, who see his rule as ushering in an era of peace and security after the initial turmoil of the Imperial Society Era and the turbulent, divided early days of the Republic.

The FSU, traditionally split into 2 camps of Waryudist Nationalist Socialists and Ishidan Social Democrats, appears to have finally caved to the more active, but numerically outnumbered former. This nomination seemingly confirms the FSU's path of invoking the NAFR days, and ends the unbroken, almost 35-year dominance the Social Democrats have had over the party. The FSU was originally reluctant to embrace it's controversial past; and almost completed a 2nd "Silent Purge" of Waryudist elements during the 4990s in similar vein to Waryud's own purge of the former Teikoku Sensen in the 4950s. Luckily for the Waryudists, electoral pressure from political rivals forced the Social Democrats to work with them, allowing the balance of power to slowly grow in their power until the scale finally flipped. As the late Soga's free market policies have ravaged the lower classes in Hulstria and Gao-Soto, many turned to Socialism and Communism in the past few years. Fahr's victory in the FSU race - a traditional barometer of who will become the next President given the FSU's dominance in politics - seems to confirm the FSU's sudden turn to the left.

The nomination appears to have emboldened many radicals and Metzist-Leonidist-Yarwoodist-Waryüdists; namely those in the People's Pole of Proletarian Power (PPPP). Despite officially claiming to be a socialist party, the PPPP is in effect a red fascist and state capitalist band of political interest groups which have been widely accused of connections to organized crime. Their stance is often hypocritical and pragmatic, tied to no ideals or principles, but rather the almighty Crown. Despite few true convictions, this lack did not stop Akechi Kazuo, son of Prime Minister (and ex-con) Akechi Satoru, from praising the FSU's decision.
Comrade Fahr is the new Metz, and his Presidency will surely light a new beacon in the advancing history of glorious
National Bolshevik history! Let us support him and carry on the legacy of the great and noble Waryud, so that we may firmly establish the Hulsterreiches Arbeiterreich!

However, upon any sort of analysis it should be clear that Mr. Akechi is wrong: Thomas Fahr will not bring back the Waryud Days.

I - A Career to Protect

Thomas Fahr is by far one of the most established Hulstro-Gao-Sotoan politicians currently in the field, perhaps the most after the passing of the late President Ishida. Having devoted his entire career and platform to the Republic as it stands, Fahr actively criticized his own role in some of the more oppressive elements of the Waryud government. Even if Fahr were to win comfortably in 5027 and form a coalition government capable of seizing Constitutional power and instituting the Waryudist system, it would severely damage his nationalist, big-tent appeal to voters and perhaps cause a long-term wipe-out of the FSU in following elections. Thomas Fahr knows that his potential Presidency will likely be hit by a predicted recession in the now-stagnant Hulstro-Gao-Sotoan, and as such his administration will most likely move to both minimize FSU responsibility in the recession and to keep the status quo as safe as possible, to avoid any radical FSU policies taking the blame for the hit. We additionally know that Fahr is a long-term player in the Hulstro-Gao-Sotoan political game, being well established for decades and serving as both President and Diet Member multiple times. A sudden NazBol shift would only hurt his prospects for a comfortable retirement and his legacy, which Fahr appears to value the most.

II - Widespread Opposition

Despite the transformation of the former SSRU into the PPPP at it's last congress, many in both the opposition, PPPP, and even Fahr's own FSU remain wary of excessively Socialist and Waryudist policy. The FSU has had trouble in the past passing even the most basic economic legislation, and despite it's impressive ability to rally it's strength behind such efforts as the 2nd Constitution, extensive control of political elements during the majority of Fahr's time in office would destroy the party internally and weaken it's credibility. Based on a poll conducted by The Republican; an estimated 64% of Hulstro-Gao-Sotoans claim that the Waryud Era was the greatest time for the nation in contemporary history; but only 24% said that the defining political and economic systems of the era were feasible to bring back in the modern day. This means that; although nostalgia for Waryud and his government itself may be high, most Hulstro-Gao-Sotoans acknowledge the near impossibility of attempting to implement his policies in the modern day. In addition to these individuals, a very sizable chunk of the Hustro-Gao-Sotoan population is staunchly opposed to both Socialism and Yarwud. Fahr's attempts to pursue a Waryudist Constitution or even Social Policy would thus alienate key voting blocs and draw the ire and hatred of some of Hulstro-Gao-Sotoan society's most influential and outspoken elements.

III - Reliance on Foreign Markets

Perhaps the strongest reason why Thomas Fahr cannot return to Waryudism would be the economy and Hulstria and Gao-Soto's markets. It was remarkably easy for Waryud to seize power and legitimize himself in the climate of the 4980s; the Republic was young, inexperienced, and weak after the turmoil and devastation of first the War and then the Society's coup. At this time, Dovanian nations wanted little to do with the broken down power that had just ravaged the continent. Autarky built up during the War meant that Hulstria and Gao-Soto effectively relied only on Hulstria and Gao-Soto itself. Waryud's promises of nationalized industry, social security, and rapid development were thus not only amenable to the population, but tantalizing to a vast majority of Hulstro-Gao-Sotoans. Thus he could successfully cement his power from start to death. However, today's climate is virtually the opposite of the 80s. The modern Semi-Presidential Republic, now almost 40 years strong, is stable politically and institutionally. It's also a hub of free trade and relies near-exclusively on foreign nations for valuable and crucial electronics parts, natural resources, and machinery. The Republic is additionally signatory to multiple comprehensive trade agreements, which would have to be re-negotiated during month long processes. Waryud-era autarky and nationalization would thus be unfeasible without harming the economy to extraordinary levels for the sake of political power. The FSU and Fahr have already worked to strike a balance between Social Democratic business ownership and practices and foreign trade; a return to Waryudism would only destroy diplomacy, prosperity, and links built up for decades, plunging the nation into chaos - and the FSU into the deep depths of public outrage.

Conclusion

Thomas Fahr's seemingly revolutionary and pro-Waryudist rhetoric is nothing more than pandering to the left and pensioners to win more political points and to lionize the FSU as it stands. If the FSU, currently near-unopposed in the National Diet but rapidly losing popular support, manages to eke out another electoral win in 5027, there's no chance it would even be allowed to return to the old Waryud regime's style of rule. The differences between now and then are simply to great to even attempt to replicate under current Constitutional framework. It's time for the Republic to move on and to face the problems of the future, not dwell on the (questionable) glories of the past.

SOCIALIST WORKERS' PARTY PUTS FORTH ITS PROGRAMME

The Socialist Workers' Party has been formed at its 1st congress held in Kien on 15th December of 5054. The party seeks to construct a socialist society on the entire soil shared by the Republic of Hulstria and Gao-Soto. The programme of the party calls for a democratic revolution in our society, to put an end to reactionary sabotages in the way of progress, and to modernize the Nation as a single collective entity shared harmoniously by both Hulstrians and Gao-Showans. The party opposes the recent revisionist tendencies in the Hulstrian leftist movement, and seeks to establish a socialist federated republic which is based on a cooperatively run economy with government subsidies for initially constructing the base of socialism in the country and to make the nation march forward as one shared community, with the preservation of the diversity of the cultures of both nationalities.
