Governor-General, Defense Minister to organize convoy
Image
Container ships waiting in the port of Luthorische Bai to set sail with the convoy

Kien, Hulstria - In response to Lodamun's quarantine and its failure to address His Majesty's Government's concerns the Defense Ministry has begun the process of instituting a convoy system to ensure the free passage of Hulstrian goods through the so-called quarantine areas. "Only ships that have no alternative but to sail through the areas in question will be convoyed," Defense Minister Sandra Forestier told reporters, "and our ships will be under the strictest of engagment guidelines." Operational details have yet to be released by the MOD has said that the first convoy will consist of eight civilian container ships, two frigates and one destroyer of His Majesty's Imperial Navy. The convoy group will be sailing at a range between 600 to 700 kilometers from the Lodamunese coastline, well outside waters guaranteed to that nation by the Law of the Sea Treaty.

Governor-General Raske used a speech at the University of Kien to address the Lodamunese quarantine:

"Terra, our home, has never been a stable place. Dictators, tyrants, terrorists, and rebels menance civilized nations at almost every turn. Liberal democracies are constantly forced to defend themselves and international order. Ideologically driven extremists currently threaten the safety of several nations while terrorism strikes fear into the hearts of innocents the world over. Governments are right, indeed they are required, to do everything practical to ensure the safety of their citizens and the preservation of their sovereignty. However those actions cannot be without limit; they cannot be done without consideration of international order and civilization as a whole.

The unilateral military quarantine imposed by the United Republics of Lodamun is well beyond the limits of international norms, decency, and law. Their action, while done with what we can only assume were the best of intentions, is clearly illegal. There is no basis, no right, no precedent, and no defense for this action. National authority extends no further than 500 kilometers from the coastline. Beyond that Lodamun has no more right to enforce its laws and decrees than Hulstria, Vorona, or Rutania. Our argument is not economic; this action is a threat to every nation's sovereignty and right to navigate the high seas.

Might must not make right; the actions of the few but bold must not be tolerated and validated by the quiet but many. Any attempt to enforce national law or authority a single centimeter beyond 500 kilometers is illegal. Allowing Loduman's action to stand establishes dangerous precedent. It sends a message to all that a nation can extend its sovereign authority without limit as long as their guns are large enough. It spells the end of neutrality, the end of innocent passage. This quarantine aimed at combating Nova Terra is itself the harbringer of chaos and strife.

I call upon the United Nations of Terra to act and stop this illegal action. Acceptance of the so-called quarantine will be the end of international waters on Terra and the end of whatever legitimacy the United Nations hoped to establish. Failure to act or silenced forced by Lodamun will only serve to confirm the fears of all too many that the UN is a puppet of the United Republics' regime. This is our test. This is their test. I know Hulstria will not fail, but I fear the United Nations will."

Espersen Applauds Move by Christian Liberal Government

Image

Kien, Hulstria - Earlier today the Governor-General and Defense Minister announced the current solution to the Lodamese quarantines to the west. Vice Chairman Kristian Espersen, a strong opponent to the quarantine of international waters made the following statement a few months ago in the Imperial Diet:

"We do not feel that Lodamun should be let to negatively interfere with our economy, as well with the economies of others who operate in the region. This move by their nation is selfish with its harm to foreign economies, and of course for the plain disregard it has for the treaties they hold and for the neutrality of international waters. We call for verbal criticism of the Lodamese Government's operation and, as risky as it may be, we call for Hulstrian ships to continue as usual, ignoring these illegal inspections. Our non-military ships should hold security personnel to prevent boardings. Greater Hulstria should not have to tolerate these intrusions on its rights as a sovereign nation!"

Today action has finally been taken by the Christian Liberal Government of Greater Hulstria and Espersen has applauded this in the Diet, "It is about time that we act. For months now it has been clear that words are not working and that have to be a bit more forceful in the assertion of our sovereignty. International waters are exactly what they are...international, and therefore there should not be a single nation establishing rules for other nations in those waters." Espersen went on to say that these quarantines could be considered a violation of the Keris Free Trade Agreement, of which Lodamun is a signatory.

In other news, the KVP placed last in January's elections, something expected due to the party's absence earlier in the decade. One voter commented, "Even though the absence of the Konservatives was only a few years, some of the visibility of what exactly are their views were lost in those years. As minor of a thing it may sound, some people did refrain from voting KVP so they could vote for the more concrete parties. I think in the next election though, the KVP will have probably restored its presence and could see a return to the top in the Diet." This month, the Konservatives have put various bills to the Diet to reverse some of the legislation that went through during its absence and to push for changes in laws disliked by the KVP. One of the main topics in the set of bills created this month is the right to privacy and to property, two things "lost", as termed by the KVP, in the mid-2740s. The Party's support for these items has also led to the party to create an official party motto, "Life, Liberty, and Property". Chairman van Gessel stated that these three qualities fit perfect to the goals and ideals of the Konservatives.

Foreign Minister Gerald von Keither Calls For Sensible Action
Image
von Keither Says "Hulstria Could Work Out The Lodamun Problem Diplomaticly"

Imperial Diet- In response to the sudden call from Defense Minister Forestier to arm Hulstrian commerical ships with convoys drew some criticism from Fascist Authority Party ofificals, including the Foreign Minister himself Gerald von Keither. Recently, the governments of the United Republics of Lodamun and the Imperial Crownlands of Greater Hulstria, have clashed over the massive quarantine set up by Lodamun that streches from the coast of the Holy Luthori Empire to the Kalistani region of Ananto; the quarantine was set up by Lodamun in response to recent terrorist actions on the nation and orginally set up a quarantine zone off the coast of that country but soon expanded into other nation's territorial waters as well as free, open waters mandated by the "Law of the Sea" treaty as a measure to increase defenses. The Lodamese quarantine has since cut off trading routes for many countries, noted mostly on the Dovani continent and the eastern parts of Keris prompting many governments, not only Hulstria, to question this quarantine. It has been only recently that Greater Hulstria, a moderatly isolationist country, has put in their say on the subject; open communications between Hulstria and Lodamun have just begun with their respective Defense and Foreign Affairs Ministries being represented.

Hulstrian Foreign Affairs Minister Gerald von Keither says that for the most part the talks are "productive" but Ms. Kyes, Lodamun's Foreign Minister, has seemingly been dodging questions on some issues such as Lodamun's military and how in only 35 years, after an economic depression in Lodamun, could the nation suddenly come up with over eight aircraft carriers with over 25 ships (200 in total). "There are certainly some questions about Lodamun's quarantine and their exact power in the region," said von Keither, "Its not logical to block off an entire section of the ocean, well beyond the said limits in the Law of the Sea treaty, that blocks off nations that has no interest or part to play in their conflict with Nova Terra causing them to sit back and twindle their thumbs. Hulstria has many trading partners on the other side of that quarantine and we're mandated by treaty to not only freely trade with those nations but freely travel through those waters". However the Foreign Minister says, Hulstria should "not take any drastic measures" or "moves that could strike as hostile". He said that he is curious how the Defense Minister was able to make such a call to arm those ships with convoys without a session in the Imperial Diet, "As long as the FAP controlled the Defense Ministry, we never made a move with the navy or military without a Diet conscientious"; never did the Defense Ministry during the New Englian Crisis "send ships to the coast of New Englia" nor made any military action, instead the country used diplomacy to "solve the crisis", and that is what he is calling for today, diplomacy. von Keither calls for "sensible action" towards the Lodamun problem rather than buffing up Defenses.

Foreign Minister von Keither says that diplomacy should be used in this instance and perhaps an argeement could be worked out to map out a special route in the quarantine zone for not only Hulstrian ships but for others who wish to peacefully pass by without inspections or having to wait to get to their destination. He has called on other nations to voice their concerns on the subject so that perhaps Lodamun will rethink their tactics. However von Keither said that if Lodamun will refuse to cooperate or wish to not engage seriously, then Hulstria itself "will have to rethink their options".

Raske begins third consecutive term; CLA gets new number 2
Image
Governor-General Raske congratulates Naoki Tsukuda on being selected Deputy Leader of the Christliche Liberalen Allianz.

Kien, Hulstria - Despite the quick rise of the Frei Kapitalistische Partei, the Christian Liberals remained the largest party in the Imperial Diet after this January's elections. Following Mr. Raske's re-election several senior CLA members announced their intent to retire from politics. Former Staatsminister and current Defense Minister Sandra Forestier told constituents that this election would be her last. "I will not stand in 2753 and will leave the government once a new cabinet takes office," she told supporters. In interviews last month she candidly discussed the legislative results, "Of course we aren't happy about losing seats, but the Frei Kapitalistische Partei took votes from all parties. The took the most support away from us, but they are also without a doubt the party closest to us."

Minister Forestier's retirement also set into motion the race to replace her as Deputy Leader of the Allianz. Peter Easton, the Minister of Internal Affairs, was the presumptive favorite to replace Forestier but the legislative losses removed a large plurality of his supporters from the Diet. Naoki Tsukuda, a leading member of the centrist-agrarian faction, beat Mr. Easton in the fifth round of balloting of Christian Liberal parliamentarians. In a special meeting of the party's national executive council led by Raske and Tsukuda, Mr. Easton was given the special position of First Secretary. He will also remain Minister of Internal Affairs in the next cabinet.

In a press conference last month with Tsukuda, the Governor-General outlined his legislative priorities for the term. Mr. Raske said he will push for increased education and infrastructure spending and a comprehesive reorganization of imperial administration in the Eastern Territories. Mr. Tsukuda voiced support for the Governor-General's initiatives and announced the outline of a campaign finance reform law to be introduced sometime in the next year.

Fascist Auhority Party Elects New Chairman; Calls for "Change In Hulstrian Government"
Image
Richard Wenceslas is retiring from the FAP and politics after over 15 years as Chairman

FAP Headquarters- Many have dubbed him the "Benevolent Chairman" or the "Quiet Leader" because of his mainly uneventful reign and stark silence in the media, Richard Wenceslas declared that he would be retiring from the post of chairman in the Fascist Authority Party to a crowd of reporters and party members in a press conference last month after serving almost 15 years as chairman. Wenceslas, taking over after former chairman David Thorsten retired in 2644, was a former candidate for Governor-General, and helped the FAP stick together after many difficult election years; Wenceslas, while very active in the Imperial Diet, has struggled with a Hulstrian population that simply does not want to vote. In the past 2-3 elections, voter turns have decreased to 68-65%, the lowest turnout rates in centuries for the Imperial Crownlands; the Fascist Authority Party has been hit hard by this lack of participation, leaving them with little or no gains in the Diet. The low-voter turnout instead only benefits the Christian Liberals and their friends while the likes of the KHP and the FAP get leftovers with most of its base not showing up to the polls for support. The Fascist Authority Party, other than their success in passing the "Hulstria-Vorona Security and Defense Argeement", has not passed any other huge pieces of legislation in the Imperial Diet. They have passed laws but often had to water them down to get support from the Christian Liberals, who control a ridiculous majority gained directly from low voter turn-outs, and sometimes attempts to compromise utterly fails, leaving the Diet in stagnation. Greater Hulstria itself has been hit by political inactivity and blandness; many party officials, as well as citizens, are angry at the slow pace of the national government in dealing with problems and in affairs in general. "A change in leadership and government is needed!" says Xavior Gaston, the newly elected Chairman of the Fascist Authority Party in a speech to party members, reporters, and citizens outside the FAP National Headquarters in Kien, shortly after being announced the new chairman by the Party Cabinet. "For years we have been technically ruled by a small band of political parties in Greater Hulstria. The low-turn out rates in elections have paved the way for CLA dominance in the Imperial Diet and the further exclusion of the Fascist Authority and Imperial Hulstrian parties; while we may work together in the cabinet, it does not seem we work together at all in the Imperial Diet, and that is my friend a true shame. A change is needed my friends, a change is needed to bring Hulstria into the next half of this century!". Xavior Gaston, a strong Hulstrian nationalist and monarchist, is considered to be a major shift in party ideology; the last few chairmans of the FAP have been moderate, centre right but the election of Gaston to the party's highest office may have very well shattered what is left of the FAP's moderate view of political affairs. Gaston is believed to take a hard-line approach in delivering the party message to the masses in the Crownlands, promoting strong central government, social conservativism, and a sound national defense; the new chairman has not ruled out to compromise however, saying that the "FAP will reach out to other parties, bring in their ideas, and work from there, we will not exclude anyone" but will not be bullied into pursuing an agenda in either he or the party itself is totally opposed to.

Image
"Greater Hulstria Needs New Leaders and New Ideas" declares new FAP Chairman Gaston

"I am calling upon fellow Fascist Authority Party officials, citizens of Hulstria who support of the Fascist Authority Party or not, to come to the polls in 2759, to come to the polls to represent true democracy!" yelled Gaston. "The democracy shown in the past few electoral cycles is in no way democracy, I say they are a sham! Citizens must understand that low-turn out rates hurt political parties, not just the FAP, from advancing in seat representation and pushing for their agenda in the legislature; new power, new parties, and new ideas for Greater Hulstria need to arise, new leadership needs to come into play, and to reject the status-quo". Gaston went on to bash the current Governor-General Anders Raske for his ineffective leadership in reaching out to political parties "Anders Raske has been as silent as our own former chairman. He is unwilling to work with other political parties and when he does, he only will sign into legislation that has been extensively amended by his own political party. The current budget on the floor right now my friends is a clear example on his child-like attitude towards governing; the Fascist Authority Party has rejected his budget that wishes to bring Greater Hulstria into a 100 billion crown plus deficit....Let me say that again, a budget with a 100 million crown deficit! His alarming speeding spree would crush the fiscal straint Hulstria holds dearly; for the past 200 years Greater Hulstria has always maintained a surplus of money and has never gone into a deficit! His reckless idea will only hurt the economy and will only cripple efforts for future spending ventures! The FAP opposed directly to his proposed budget-deficit control plan, and I do use the word control loosly, and offered our own proposal of allowing for the current surplus money to be spent in the budget but still allow for a surplus. Anders Raske decided to instead go right to vote on the budget and dismissed Fascist Authority Party suggestions; that Hulstria, is pathetic and overtly ridiculous". He continued on by saying Raske has "shown in clear daylight his hypocrisy on bipartisanship", that Raske "only believes in compromise when the FAP is proposing legislation but when it comes to his legislation, his legislation is just, and does not have to be changed". Gaston declared that the FAP "will not continue to suck up to Raske and propose changes at the snap of his finger anymore" after he went on with "a budget that wasn't fully debated on".

"The Fascist Authority Party believes in responsible budget management," said chairman Gaston. "While the Fascist Authority Party and the former Hulstrian Nationalist Party opposed eachother at every issue, we always came together in uniting against out of control spending in the budget, and always put our fiscal conservatism front and center in budget battles. They if they were still around would be throwing stones as Raske for his outrageous budget plan. Hulstrians should be in revolt over his budget plan!".

Xavier Gaston then touched on Raske's attempt to shove the Fascist Authority Party and the Imperial Hulstrian Party out of important cabinet Ministries a few years back to make way for their friend, the Free Capitalist Party; the cabinet also proposed kicking out Gerald von Keither, FAP member and author of the Hulstria-Vorona Security and Defense Argeement, to make way for a Christian Liberal representative, yet Raske put in no arguement for the change, in fact he didn't propose any arguement for any of the changes. Raske openly threatened the Fascist Authority Party leadership in the cabinet debate, hinting that if the FAP voted against the cabinet, he would exclude the FAP the next time a cabinet was proposed. The Fascist Authority Party did not tremble in Raske's threat and opposed the cabinet anyway, citing that the Free Capitalist Party was too inexperienced and not up for the jobs put ahead of them. Funny enough, the Free Capitalist Party did not vote at all in the cabinet proposal, and has ever since the vote 3 years ago has been inactive in Imperial Diet affairs missing over 35+ plus articles of legislation. It is suspected that if the FKP continues to be inactive, their national status as a political party may end. The statement has soured many within the Fascist Authority Party, even before Gaston arrived; the clear bully-like tactics exerted by Raske has disappointed officials and are worried that as long as the CLA hold the majority and low-turn out rates continue, Raske will continue to behave in that way of not taking in bipartisanship or other parties ideas. "The Christian Liberals in general and their cabinet proposal disappointed many Hulstrians. That is no way of properly working with other political parties and the FAP is upset by the fact that it always has to be us in debates that have to compromise yet when it comes to the CLA, compromise or discussion does not apply to them".

Image
"The CLA and their cabinet proposal disappointed many Hulstrians" said Xavier Gaston

Gaston appeared to be geninuely angered by the Governor-General's recent actions, calling into question his train of thought and the Christian Liberal Party's logic in letting him stay their candidate for Governor-General "The Christian Liberals should take a deep, deep look into their party, and find themselves. I know for a fact Raske does not represent the whole Christian Liberals and they should re-organize themselves to get better people to represent them in the Imperial Diet. If Raske continues to represent the CLA in such an office as Governor-General, then relations between the FAP and the CLA will only continue to crumble". He said "The FAP wishes to continue to work with the CLA, we worked well together in the past but it will be almost impossible for us to do that if Raske continues his partisanship and his attitude towards other political parties in Greater Hulstria. The CLA does not have the HNP anymore or the FKP, they need to work with not only the FAP but the KHP. That is the only right thing to do in this current political environment".

Xavier Gaston also said a statement after the speech that the Fascist Authority Party will continue to endorse the Imperial Hulstrian Party for Governor-General and hopes for the KHP to take Governor-General once again after their successful run with Edmund von Greifstein in the late 2720s. He also expressed support and admiration for the current Emperor of Hulstrian, Franz VI, who now holds the title of Head of State in the nations of Talmoria and Hulstria, the first Hulstrian Emperor since Heinrich I to hold a Head of State title in more than one country. Including gaining a Head of State title, Hulstria has increased its colonial land on Dovani; Hulstria has control over the Talmorian territories, known as the South-Western Territories, making Hulstria the single largest colonial power on Dovani, with Franz VI being dubbed the "Emperor of Dovani" because of his control of the mass amount of territories and over 490 million people. Those colonies were aquired after the overthrow of the oppressive Islamic government in Talmoria by a Hulstrian nationalist party.

Xavier Gaston To Launch New Imperial Diet Offensive; Calls It A "Legislative Blitzkrieg"
Image
New FAP Chairman Says The Party Will "Take A New Step In Activity" In The Legislature, "No More Last Minute Bills" Gaston Declares

FAP Headquarters- Newly elected Fascist Authority Party chairman Xavior Gaston annouced yesterday the the party would be going under extensive reforms and that he would be reversing some Wenceslas-era policies towards the Imperial Diet. Gaston told the media and party members that the Fascist Authority Party would be ending its "Omnibus Act" program, and ending the FAP's last minute "article packages" in the legislature before elections. The chairman said that the "FAP has not seen any substantial gains" because of the fact "we wait to the last minute to propose law" and while former chairman Richard Wenceslas provided a strong grasp on keeping the party together in tough times failed to realize this "failed tactic". He said "The Fascist Authority Party needs to get active in the Imperial Diet right after an election, not just before one. We think by proposing massive, single pieces of legislation, and prays that it bounces back to us with a profit is an illogical notion. Those omnibus laws only benefit parties that do not like our party and parties that no not seek to work fully with us on anything; that is why I am ending this tactic and am ordering legislators under the FAP banner to instead propose individual pieces of legislation aimed at one catagory so that citizens will easily be able to understand our position on the issues, and make the right choices in who they want in power". Xavier Gaston also stated that the omnibus legislation the Fascist Authority Party has welcomed may be contributing to the lack of participation from voter groups that usually support the party "I think we may have chased away some of our loyal party supporters," Gaston said. "That along with pampering to the Governor-General, risking our core values to someone who believes in the theory of do as I say and not as I do. We need to reverse these disastrous policies that will only hurt us in the long run and will continue to cripple us in elections. These changes I'm making today will only send the Fascist Authority Party onward to victory, make our party more active, and away from being just the second largest party".

"We intend to work with our friends in the Kaiserliche Hulsterreichische Partei and intend to pass dynamic-conservative legislation in the Imperial Diet, we will continue to work with their local party offices to hold rallies and get Hulstrians to register to vote at an effort to combat the ever saddening low-turn out rates ine election, which as proved yet again to work for only a select few," chairman Gaston said. "We must not be distracted by that however, we must form our own defense. To my initial thought, to add on to the Fascist Authority Party moving away from last minute legislation, I think it is only right that the party now launches a new offensive in the Imperial Diet to start off our new initiative of changing the Hulstrian government, and removing the current status quo within the Imperial Crownlands. A new legislative offensive organized by the Fascist Authority Party is actually going on as I speak to you today; a new batch of legislation and proposals have been introduced in the Imperial Diet, legislation that speaks of the values the FAP represents. Central government empowerment, sound national defense, economic efficiency, pro-religious reform, and mixed-economic principles are all being included in our new wave of bills. This legislative blitzkrieg will heal the wounds from past elections and jump start our new movement. We're no longer going to remain silent in the Diet with concerns to introducing bills, this will be a continuing effort, and will not stop June 27662. New ideas will be introduced and new support will be gained".

Image
Chairman Xavier Gaston (speaker) Lays Out A New Legislative Battleplan For the FAP

The Fascist Authority Party this year in the national elections gained a modest 15 seat gain in the Imperial Diet, more than expected by some officials. Unfortunatly, as mentioned, voter turn-out in Hulstria remained within the 65-69% range giving the likes of the Christian Liberals the ability to maintain their majority. The nearly imploded Free Capitalist Party lost 20+ seats, with most of them being given to the CLA; their endorsement of Anders Raske was enough for Raske to pull in another re-election win. "Without the endorsement of the Free Capitalists, Raske would have lost a long time ago," mentioned Gaston. "Endorsements mean a lot in elections and what is preventing Rakse being defeated is not his strong will but the iron Free Capitalist Party endorsement for him. A literal stranglehold has been put on the position of Governor-General, this is preventing new faces to represent Hulstria, and is blocking parties to have any chance to get a foot in. Former Governor-Generals Christiaan van Rensberg, Wolfgang Reinhardt knew when to step down, Nicholas van der Burg knew when to step down' the question is will Raske understand the same concept of knowing when to move on".

Image
The FKP Endorsement Paved Way For Raske Re-Election Many Say

Speaking of the Christian Liberals and the Free Capitalists, the CLA has recently proposed legislation in the Imperial Diet after the Fascist Authority Party finished off with its first round its legislative offensive in the Diet to call for a special election to fill up the seats that are going to be left over by the Free Capitalist Party. Argueing that the citizens must "elect a new Diet", when they just did in January, to fully represent the will of the people, to fill up the Diet after the soon to be vacant seats left over by the FKP. The last time Hulstria saw the disbandment of a major political party (the Konservative Volker Partei), the CLA did not rush to call for special elections but instead seized control of the national cabinet with the infamous Radicalists Movement in the early 2740s, and made no effort to call upon a special session of the legislature to call for a special election. When the Kaufmännischer Anschluss collapsed, the CLA did not propose a special election and they had a good amount of seats in the Imperial Diet.

Coincidently, both those parties were in some way attached to the Fascist Authority, and/or had friendly relations. Only when the allies of the Christian Liberals it seems go missing, a special election must be held immediately and any opposition is considered obstructionist! The last time the CLA proposed a special election was because of the fall of the Radicals and the fact the FAP at the same time of their fall proposed a fair amount of bills in the Diet for vote and looked to have enough to support to pass; the CLA objected to massive change and tried to get an early election to stop the bills from passing. Now it looks as it history will be repeating itself; the majority of the FAP bills proposed in the Diet this year will pass and the fact that the Christian Liberals can not defeat them has triggered them to introduce a surprisingly enough early election bill. As many political analysts and Hulstrians themselves know, the FKP is the closest party to the CLA in terms of ideology, and if an early election would be held, the 100+ seats left over by the Free Capitalists will almost automatically go the Christian Liberals, paving a way for them to a single-party supermajority, and enough votes presumably to bypass any Fascist Authority or Imperial Hulstrian Party opposition for the next 3 years; the idea of a single-party state has many alarmed. However, there is much more to the debate about having an early election, namly the fact only 11 months have passed after the January national elections and the fact more than 8 bills are on the floor right now. No party has gained any visibility with voters this year and if an early election would be held, it would be a basic repeat. The Fascist Authority Party traditionally also has always opposed special election legislation and have always voted against measures to do so, the "CLA is getting no different treatment" chairman Gaston in opposition the FAP gave to the former HNP and KVP when they proposed early election bills.

Hulstrian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Francis Lanzberg, spoke on the recent events in the Imperial Crownlands, and offered his own opinion in the matter. "I do say I am disappointed in how things are being run right now," said Lanzberg. "Despite the FAP and the KHP in the cabinet with CLA, it does not seem much communication is going on between us, primarily between us the Christian Liberals. The FAP has been taken abake by the recent bills and statements the CLA has made these past few years, their stunt to try to kick us out of the cabinet to make way for the almost dead Free Capitalists Party cut a deep wound to many members here, including myself. That blew up in their faces and they did not apologize". He also mentioned that "the FAP will resort to biting instead of barking when we are pushed up against a wall" and will stand up for what they think is "ethically right". Lanzberg said the "tensions between the FAP and the CLA" are similar to that of the Hulstrian Nationalist and Fascist Authority Party fued in the mid 2600s and that we need to "only look back to how our past leaders put down their arms and decided to work together in the 'One Nation, One Future' policies". A "similar version" should be applied to these times Lanzberg suggested.

Raske begins final term as Tsukuda steps forward
Image
Upholding the precedent set by Christiaan van Rensburg, Mr. Raske will stand down after seven terms as Governor-General.

Kien, Hulstria - Governor-General Anders Raske confirmed late last month that he will not run for an eigth term. Holding to the precendent of Christiaan van Rensburg (served 2664-2685), Mr. Raske will step aside to allow Christian Liberal Deputy Leader Naoki Tsukuda to run in the next election. "Whether the election comes in two months or two years it will be Naoki's name on the ballot," the Governor-General told reporters. Should Mr. Tsukuda be elected, he will be the person of full Gao-Showa decent to be elected to national office since 2500. No matter the date of the election, Raske will remain President of the CLA until March 2761, twenty-five years after he first became leader of the party. Mr. Tsukuda has not formally announced his intention to run for the party leadership, but is widely expected to do so.

Tsukuda spoke to a group of workers, barred from unionizing, in Mitrania about the current political situation in the Imperial Crownlands. "As long as Xavier Gaston hijacks the political process the CLA will not work with the Fascists. Mr. Gaston has singlehandedly destroyed any possibility of cooperation and trust between our two parties." He continued, "the Fascists blame everyone but themselves when it comes to their failures. They point to lower turnout to explain their poor electoral showing when the simple fact is that centrist and liberal parties, when present, almost always enjoy majority support. In the past 112 years, centrist and liberal parties have held the Governor-General's post for 73 years."

"Mr. Gaston says that the Fascists' legislative assault will 'heal the wounds', when all that their antics have done is to tear open old divides. They might succeed in increasing voter turn out, and they may indeed eventually get their majority but the cost is the end of consensus politics. The first step toward stopping this situation before it becomes a true crisis is an early election. The CLA could very well lose, but that is a legitimate and democratic result that we can stand by. We go into the next election very aware that we'll likely lose the office Mr. Raske has held for more than eighteen years, but we embrace democratic will."

"Unless Hulstria gets a snap election to fill the hole to be left by the FKP the present cabinet will be the last all-party cabinet for the foreseeable future. The CLA will continue to work with and respect the KHP, but we cannot deal with those we do not trust, and Mr. Gaston has destroyed all trust." When asked about the supposed cabinet slight indicated by Francis Lanzberg, Mr. Tsukuda reminded the audience that the KHP had voted in favor of the proposed cabinets.

The driving force behind the Christian Liberal attempt to begin stimulus spending and drafter of the Deficit Spending Control Act (DSCA), Tsukuda will reintroduce the measure in the Diet within the next year. "The CLA cares more about economic expansion than an purely ideological attachment to accounting tradition," he said in reference to the FAP's strict opposition to any deficits, "because under current economic conditions surpluses only take money out of the economy. Every crown not spent is a crown wasted."

FAP Chairman Xavier Gaston Slams Raske; Calls Him A "Hypocrite" and "Liar"
Image
Xavier Gaston (c) says It was Raske that "Destroyed the Trust Between Our Parties" With His Arrgoant Attitude Toward Legislating

Imperial Diet- The recent comments made by Governor-General Anders Raske has created a bit of stir within the inner circles of the Fascist Authority Party, not only did he announce he wouldn't continue to grip onto the Governor-General and step down next electon, but comments he made about the FAP and their role in the breakdown of CLA-FAP "trust". He said that Gaston "singlehandedly destroyed any further relationship" between the two parties, not even acknowledging his own faults, suggesting that he may be attempting to place the recent rift solely on the Fascist Authority Party. Many officials in the FAP are fuming but at the same time not too surprised that Raske left "himself out of the picture in this whole mess" and clearly "tried to blame the entire situtation on the FAP, trying to sugarcoat his own problems". Raske failed to mention that it was because of his actions towards the Fascist Authority Party (refusing to cooperate on several pieces of legislation, threatened to kick out the FAP from the cabinet if they didn't vote with him, seized power in the cabinet with the anarcho-communist Radicalists Movement in the 2740s, and his stubborn attitude toward his 80 billion crown deficit proposal last year) has caused members to fight back against being walked on and elected an outspoken chairman to call out Anders Rakse on his unproper antics in the Imperial Diet. The "trust" FAP members say was broken a long time ago when the Christian Liberals started "to get power in their heads" and broke away from the rest of the legislature, adopting the motto of "do as I say and not as I do" to policy making. "Did they think that their refusal to compromise or to justify themselves in legislation these past few years was just going to continue on forever?", asked one FAP member. "Now they are trying to act surprised that someone is speaking up against them. They know what they did and know why the FAP is calling them out but won't reveal it public to at a cheap move to save face".

Xavier Gaston in a gathering of the Fascist Authority Party cabinet and various other delegates eariler in the week responded on the recent claims of Governor-General Raske made. "Mr. Raske has obviously not read my previous statements on this party dropping its Omnibus Bill policy because of the fact it has failed us in the elections and I said it didn't work, that we had to change, fix the problem in front of us" chairman Xavier Gaston said. "I have been critical of former chairman Richard Wenceslas for creating that whole Omnibus Bill policy because it has done nothing but harm to us, it has failed to achieve its goal. Raske is playing petty-politics by saying our party has not acknowledged our own faults, we have acknowledged our faults, and will heal the wounds from past defeats by performing better, being more active in the Imperial Diet by proposing bills every year not just before elections. Raske on the otherhand has not accepted any fault himself and he is a hypocrite by saying we fail to recognize faults though he fails to recognize his own". Gaston said that Raske also expresses hypocrisy in concerns to special elections and that the CLA only makes the fuss for holding a special election when it needs to benefit them. "Again they did not make any fuss when the KVP and the Mercant Union fell, what is so different about the FKP?".

"The FAP has accepted blame for itself many times in its history but Raske refuses accept fault himself" said Gaston (L)

"The Christian Liberals broke away from the Fascist Authority Party, the Fascist Authority Party never broke away from the Christian Liberals", Gaston said. "They are liars and they do not respect any political party other than ones who will provide a rubber stamp to their legislation, plain and simple. Ever since the Hulstrian Nationalist Party collapsed, any sanity left within that party has been slowly dieing off, and the Raske leadership has shot the final bullet to end it".

He also said that "While the KHP did vote for those two cabinets, they should not think for a second that the Imperial Hulstrians are going to suddenly forget the past treatment by the Christian Liberals on them". Gaston pointed out that the Christian Liberals several times has approached the Fascist Authority Party and tried to convince them in kicking out the Imperial Hulstrians, to remove them at all from cabinet positions. First, it was because the KHP refused to give up their Staatsminister post in the early 2700s, and hand over the post to the CLA; the Christian Liberals asked the FAP to kick them out and then chairman Wolfgang Reinhardt refused. Shortly after their embarrassing stunt to kick out the 400 year old party, the founder of the Hulstrian Monarchy, the Christian Liberals then imploded. Even a few years ago, the CLA again approached the FAP to again try to this time to place the Imperial Hulstrians in un-important positions like Tourism because "they just weren't too active" and "don't participate" (despite the KHP always making it to cast their vote on bills) and used the excuse of "what if something happens, we need active people!" as a justification of keeping them out of major policy making and out of the Foreign Ministry Affairs. "The fact of the matter is Raske and the CLA has absolutely no respect for the KHP and have tried to belittle them on several occasions," Gaston said. "They never respected the KHP and they never liked the KHP, they never trusted the KHP. On the other hand the FAP respects the KHP and has defended them many times; we work well together in the cabinet and continue to work together in Governor-General elections. We may not vote the same nor argee on every issue but we have a mutual respect for one another and have similar values in concerns to social/fiscal conservatism, Hulstrian nationalism, anti-republicanism, and monarchism".

"Let it be no mistake that it is they, the Christian Liberals, who have isolated themselves away from the Hulstrian political specturm and that the is was they Christian Liberals that triggered the Fascist Authority Party to say enough is enough with your aggroant attitude towards policy making. The CLA has undermined too many political parties and have insulted too many political parties in their short history. The Fascist Authority Party is sick and tired trying to reason with the Christian Liberals, sick and tired of trying to compromise with them and in the end result come it with the short stick and a slap in the face. They have only themselves to blame".

New leadership team for Christian Liberals
Image
Dietrich Falkenrath, the mayor of Graaffsberg, was selected to serve as deputy to new CLA President Naoki Tsukuda.

Kien, Hulstria - Following Anders Raske's resignation as party leader, Naoki Tsukuda succeeded in an uncontested race to be the party's new leader. The bid to replace Mr. Tsukuda as deputy leader was harder fought with three contestants fighting for the office. The top contender for the position, Interior Minister Peter Easton, again failed to woo a majority of his party's parliamentarians. Despite not beloning to the Diet, Dietrich Falkenrath supporters amongst the centrist-agrarian and populist factions beat out Mr. Easton's christian democratic and libertarian coalition.

Mr. Falkenrath will oversee the Christian Liberals' legislative campaigns in the 2672 elections. He will top the party's list in Mitrania and will become leader of the CLA in the Imperial Diet once elected. In his first press conference as Deputy Leader he said that he, "strongly supports the leadership of Mr. Tsukuda and his vision for the next parliamentary term."

Tsukuda elected Gov-Gen; CLA captures Diet majority
Image
Naoki Tsukuda is the first elected nationwide officeholder of Gao-Showa descent in 260 years. At age 74, he is also the oldest in recent history.

Kien, Hulstria - With surprise backing from the KHP, the Christian Liberal early election motion passed last month. CLA president Naoki Tsukuda won the Governor-General election and the Falkenrath-led legislative campaign secured an absolute majority for the party in the Imperial Diet. Mr. Tsukuda spoke to a gathering of supporters to mark the historic nature of the election, "Our nation has evolved beyond recognition from what it was before. No one supports or defends ethnic segregation; no one supports the abridgment of democracy in any form. Hulstria is now, and will continue to be, a multi-ethnic and pluralistic society."

Dietrich Falkenrath immediately introduced the Deficit Spending Control Act and an accompanying budget to the Imperial Diet. "This is at the core of our platform," Mr. Falkenrath said submitting the bill, "and is absolutely crucial to boosting Hulstrian economic growth." A new cabinet proposal will soon be brought before the Diet. When asked if it will contain FAP members, Mr. Falkenrath replied, "this draft will not. We told the FAP that there would be a price to pay if they opposed the early election motion, and Mr. Gaston has made it clear that he has no intention of working with us. We won't work with Mr. Gaston." It is believed, though, that the first cabinet proposal will include the KHP.

Mr. Falkenrath was confirmed by his colleagues to serve as parliamentary leader of the CLA. Falkenrath and Tsukuda named veteran lawmaker Johanna von Bunschoten to the position of First Secretary. Lukas Adenauer, who joins Mr. Falkenrath as a freshman Diet member, was named Second Secretary.
