Finance Minister Goddestreu opens Crownlands to business
April 4407

Kien, Hulstria - In an update on the government's economic plan, two years after the announcement of the greatest economic overhaul in over a century, Finance Minister Severin Goddestreu, the Bürggraf Goddestreu, has announced that the Crownlands are now once more open to foreign businesses. Taking a walk through the Kien Business District with a visiting group of foreign investors invited just for the occasion, the Bürggraf was heard remarking with his family sense of humour that "there were certainly a lot of advantages to investing in Hulstria and Gao-Soto." Leading his guests past a coffee bar, the Bürggraf spoke up, saying: "Come visit us! We have cookies... well, strudel and sachertorte, at any rate," drawing much hilarity from the gathered press and public as well as his guests.

The announcement came as the second part of Goddestreu's economic agenda was introduced to the Imperial Diet, including several further wide-reaching measures to restructure the national finances and economy. Among others, Health Minister Chijimatsu Kuni proposed a law to privatise health insurance and provision to non-profit companies set up for this purpose. The measure is intended to cut the healthcare budget by quire some amount, allowing the financing of another key measure of the government: the universal student grant system introduced by Education Minister Wim Geissler, which is intended to boost the education level in the Crownlands in order to pave the way for a revitalisation of innovative and high-tech economic sectors. "If we want national economic crown jewels like Tenkoun back," declared Geissler, "we need to up our game in the knowledge economy."

The Staatsministerium announced that representatives of Their Imperial Majesties' Government would be going on a tour around Terra to re-establish international relations, with a focus on trade. "We'll be using the time-honoured tactic of travelling with political dignitaries and a trade delegation in their tow," Staatsminister Clemens Heumayr announced. "We've already planned a few itineraries and I can say this: Graf Michels, Bürggraf Goddestreu, Frau Böhme and myself shall be quite busy in the coming months, but I'm looking forward to it."

Tasyumon all the rage in Crownlands
July 4408

The main character of the popular anime, Rot Fengsie, with his companion Tasyumon, Donamausu

Syakusen-Graaffsberg, Mitrania - As the economic revival of the Crownlands continues, a cultural revival is just around the corner, evidenced by the revival of the anime tradition in Syakusen. The chief hero of this revival is a charming children's series called Tasyumon, produced by Esshu Studios, a mixed-cultural production company operating out of the creative district in Syakusen-Graaffsberg. Having taken the Crownlands by storm, the Dundorfian version of the anime is expected to be sold to many Dundorfophonic nations, and it is believed that television stations around the world might produce their own localisation of the new Crownlander hit series.

The series revolves around the premise of Tasyumon, an abbreviation of the Hulstrian word Taschenmonster. In the world of the series, which is called the "Byudenra Region" and appears heavily based on the topography of Crownland Budenlar, humans exist side-by-side with Tasyumon, a range of charming fantastic creatures of various types who can perform various moves, serving as friends and companions. In addition to performing many mundane tasks, Tasyumon are also used to battle eachother, travelling with individuals known as Tasyumon Trainers. The main protagonist of the series is one Rot Fengsie (a pun on the Hulstrian Fäng sie, cathc them), an aspiring Tasyumon trainer who sets out to catch all 150 Tasyumon and become a Tasyumon Meister. Along the way, he gathers data on the Tasyumon he encounters for Professor Edelweiss, an eccentric and absent-minded professor.

The charm of the new series are undoubtedly the Tasyumon themselves: fantastic creatures based on all sorts of inspirations, from exaggerations of the national world to traditional Kunihito and Hulstrian myths. The mascot of the series is quickly becoming Donamausu, Rot's companion, a yellow rodent-like creature who can deliver devastating electric shocks. His adorable likeness is appearing across the Crownlands in stuffed animals, caps, onesies and other merchandise.

It is rumoured that Tasyumon might be Hulstria and Gao-Soto's next cultural export, being inducted into the hall of fame that already includes the heroic Draniano gardener Super José. Among others, sources surrounding the headquarters of the Tenkoun Corporation in Indrala report that at the official visit of a Crownlander delegation earlier this year, the lead creatives on Tasyumon were among the visiting parties to Tenkoun's Indrala headquarters. This fuels speculation that the games giant might be planning a Tasyumon game, which might provide incentive for it to return its headquarters to Hulstria and Gao-Soto and the creative hotbed that is Syakusen-Graaffsberg. Tenkoun's headquarters did not deny that the company was examining a return to its native Crownland, but said that "no comment would be given" on rumours of a Tasyumon game being in development.

Hulstria and Gao-Soto endorse government once more
May 4409

Staatsminister Clemens Heumayr speaks to reporters on the first day of the new Imperial Diet

Kien, Hulstria - With overwhelming victories in the coastal Crownlands and support across Hulstria and Gao-Soto, the incumbent government of HDV Leader Clemens Heumayr has won another 4-year mandate to pursue its wide-ranging reformist agenda for the country. After a campaign which was largely retrospective, focusing on the achievements of a first term which saw the international position of the Crownlands re-established and the economy showing its first signs of revival, the people of Hulstria and Gao-Soto seem to have rewarded the Staatsminister and his team with a solid majority to continue their programme. The opposition Labour Party doubled its share of the seats from 20% to 40% with strong showings in the historically leftist Crownland Hulstria and in Gao-Soto, even, much to the surprise of observers, in the usually orange-as-the-sun Crownland Mitrania, which is one of the HDV's historic heartlands. In the Governor-General election, Lothar von Geraniengau zu Hortensiengau was returned with a commanding majority of 65% on the first ballot.

Heumayr greeted the victory with a businesslike conviction, seeming eager to get back to work. "We are humbled by the renewed confidence of the citizens of Hulstria and Gao-Soto," said the HDV Leader. "I wouldn't go so far as to say we're the natural party of government once more, but we're the party of government for now. People have trusted us, and it's time to get back to work to make good on the promises, not just of our manifesto but of our country." It is expected that Heumayr's Cabinet will continue in office without any changes.

Tenkoun comes home to Syakusen-Graaffsberg
January 4412

The love between the Crownlands and Tenkoun is mutual; see above the Tenkoun exhibit at the Syakusen-Graaffsberg Museum of Crownlander Popular Culture

Syakusen-Graaffsberg, Mitrania - Multinational games and console producer Tenkoun Corporation announced today that they would be moving their headquarters back to the Mitranian capital of Syakusen-Graaffsberg, where the company was founded. A spokesperson for the developer of legendary franchises such as Super José said that with recent investment in education in and around Syakusen and the creative revival evidenced for instance by the new international rage Tasyumon, the time was now ripe to move its headquarters back from Indrala to its native Crownlands. "We have always made it clear that we would consider a return to the Crownlands," said Tenkoun in a statement. "And now it appears is the time."

Members of the Crownlander Government made no secret of their wish to entice one of the Crownlands's most famous exports back to its homeland, and are now making no secret of their elation at the news. "Tenkoun is part of our heritage just like Kienerschnitzel, or sushi, or stately palaces, or Johann Emmanuel Visp," said Finance Minister Severin Goddestreu, who reputedly met with Tenkoun's executives in Indrala a few years back. "What is more, its games and franchises are testament to the unique creative power unleashed by the intersection of East and West, of Kunihito and Hulstrian culture. It is certainly great news that such an icon of this land of two peoples, united and free, returns home." Though Tenkoun will retain some of its activities in countries abroad like Indralan and Dankuk, it is expected that its main operations will be moved back to the Crownlands, leading to the creation of large numbers of jobs in and around Syakusen in particular. Syakusen Mayor Filibeto Kunigu said that "Syakusen is becoming some sort of creative hub now, and that's good news."

It has been rumoured that both the government's policies and the creative success of new series like Tasyumon have led to the return of Tenkoun to the Crownlands. To confirm this, Tenkoun announced a large injection into Esshu Studios, now redubbed Tasyumon Studios AG, with which the company bought a significant majority share. In addition, Tenkoun announced that work was in full swing on the first of two Tasyumon video games for its handheld system, in which players would be able to explore the Byudenra region just like Rot Fengsie and set out on a mission to catch them all. A spokesman for Tasyumon Studios greeted the news happily: "We are extremely grateful for all the love shown to our creations, and Tenkoun's help will allow us to bring the world of Tasyumon to many more people throughout Terra."

Crownlander Government expresses alarm at looming civil war in Indrala; Mikado praises Tianshun Emperor's courage
July 4412

Foreign Minister Hupold, Graf Michels, expressed his alarm at the looming violence in Indrala

Kien, Hulstria - The Government of the United Imperial Crownlands has expressed its strongest alarm at recent events in Indrala, where violence between republican and Imperial loyalist forces seems to be escalating quickly in civil war. Calling for cooler heads to prevail, Foreign Minister Hupold Michels nevertheless summoned the Indralan Ambassador to render explanation of the recent situation in Indrala and reassure him of the safety of Crownlander interests. A planned visit by Mikado Yoshinaga to the Son of Heaven in Tian'an was suspended indefinitely, and the travel advisory for Crownlander citizens changed to "be vigilant". "Whatever the outcome of this crisis," said Michels. "For us one thing is paramount: the desire for our Indralan allies not to descend into civil war. We are alarmed at the inflammatory rhetoric being used on both sides, and if there is anything we can do to prevent a civil war, we stand ready to do so."

The Crownlands have been friendly both with a Republican and with a monarchist Indrala, although hardcore republican parties refused to support the Second September Revolution for fear of the Crownlands's friendly relations with Dankuk. It seems likely, say analysts, that Graf Michels's open intervention is intended to safeguard Crownlander interests in Indrala, just after commercial and political ties with the island nation have been intensified. It is not in the interest of the Crownlands to see these endangered by violence. In particular, companies like Tenkoun have reacted to the situation by putting all their Indralan plans on hold. For Tenkoun, this might set back the company's technological capabilites, but a spokesperson said the safety of their workers was paramount and a move to Gao-Soto could not be ruled out. Michels promised that any government engaging in persecution of political opponents would earn the emnity of the Crownlands: "As the proud guardians of the heritage of Septembrism, one of democracy and tolerance, whatever one's background or views, we will not put our commercial interests over these deep-seated national values. We will act if these values are threatened, but for now, I have good hopes that they will realise peace is the better way."

In a statement released by the Imperial Household Agency, Mikado Yoshinaga expressed his disappointment at the delay to his visit to the Tianshun Emperor, but praised the Son of Heaven for his political courage and pacifist conviction. "Our progenitor Kurosawa the Great believed that whatever happened, the land under heaven should be filled with peace. Our brother monarch, the Tianshun Emperor, has shown great courage in calling for militias to stand down despite the threat to his own crown. We hope this example shall inspire reason in the hearts of Indralans on both sides of this divide and lead to the re-establishment of the peace among our Gao-Showan brothers and sisters."

HDV gears up for May elections with Goddestreu-Heumayr tandem
January 4413

Image
Finance Minister Bürggraf Goddestreu in many aspects has eclipsed Staatsminister Clemens Heumayr in popularity after engineering economic recovery in the Crownlands

Syakusen-Graaffsberg, Mitrania - At its party conference in Syakusen-Graaffsberg, the HDV is exhibiting high levels of self-confidence to match the newly found confidence of the Crownlands. The party leader, Clemens Heumayr, and its most high-profile minister, Severin Goddestreu, the Bürggraf Goddestreu, were given a hero's welcome for their 8-year long effort to revitalise the Crownlands' economic and international stature. As Hulstria and Gao-Soto's economy and international stature grows, prompting talk of a "Phoenix miracle" in bringing the previously war-ravaged and unstable country back into growth, the HDV seems to be confident that it can cash in on the successes of 8 years in government. The location in Syakusen-Graaffsberg, where the creative and technological enterprises are returning fast following the return of big players like Tenkoun to the area, is a symbolic choice, showcasing the achievement.

Indeed, there isn't a single poll that doesn't have the HDV ahead. Still, with the rise of the Labour Party and the entry into politics of the new Progressive Party, it remains the question to what extent the Hosian Democrats can hold on to their dominance in the Diet. Principal question, even if plurality for the HDV is not really in doubt, is whether the Hosian Democrats will again get a majority to rule alone, or whether the loss of control of the Länderrat to Labour last election will presage a minority position in the lower house as well. HDV leader and incumbent Staatsminister Clemens Heumayr seemed unconcerned with either scenario, claiming that "majority rule is the exception in our country and we will be glad to look for partners to continue our work if that is the job we're set to do." In such a scenario, it does not seem unlikely that either Heumayr or Severin Goddestreu will return to lead the party as Klubobmann, while the other serves as Staatsminister.

The Bürggraf Goddestreu himself remained characteristically witty and ironic about his role in returning the country to some semblance of prosperity: "I do think there's more to it than my agence. I didn't just go: "Tasyumon, I choose you!" and poof, Tenkoun came back. What has been achieved here is really the achievement of all those Crownlanders, their energy, their willingness to cooperate and their creativity. It's they that are the phoenix here, and we will do everything we can to keep it bright and blazing." Staatsminister Heumayr echoed the sentiment, focusing on the assertive role the Crownlands were playing in Dovani: "Later this year, I hope to host the leaders of all Dovani economies in St. Anton to bring our continent closer together. But I'll say this: I've been privileged to showcase all we have to offer, proud to have served, and I am confident that, with all your help, we will be rewarded."

The HDV renominated Governor-General the Vizegraf von Geraniengau zu Hortensiengau for a third term.

Lotus Party Leader Li Jinyu speaks at HDV Party Conference in Hulstria & Gao-Soto
Shortly after being elected Leader, Li was invited to speak at the Hosianisch-Demokratisches Verbund National Conference

TIAN'AN, Han: Exactly one week after having been elected Leader of the Lotus Party, Li Jinyu spoke at the Hosianisch-Demokratisches Verbund National Conference in Syakusen-Graaffsberg, Hulstria and Gao-Soto. During his speech, the poet-turned-politician commended the ruling-HDV for their leadership on economic issues.

"From expanding government investment in the young people of this nation and opening the economy to foreign investment, it would seem that the Crownlands, under the HDV, are on their way to replicating the Jiaozhi Miracle here in Northern Dovani!" Li declared.

Li also commended the HDV for their environmental regulation, which "reflects" the HDV's pragmatic approach to "understanding that economic growth and environmental conservation must exist concurrently." Li has been an outspoken environmentalist for many years prior to his entry to politics last year.

While briefly discussing security issues, Li used the Conference stage to criticize the "forces" in Indrala who withdrew the nation from the International Treaty on the Prohibition of Landmines. The legislation to withdraw was introduced by the now-defunct Republican League, and supported by the Communist Party and defunct-National Renewal Party. Citing the HDV's historic ban of landmines which remains in effect today, Li pleaded the party to take the lead in the "eradication of blind violence."

"While politicians in Indrala have shamefully accepted the mutilation of innocent lives locked in conflict zones, the HDV has taken a stand. Today, I ask you as a single man committed to peace in a dangerous world to continue that historic fight through the ratification of the ITPL," Li said before bowing to the crowd, "I sincerely ask you!"

The ITPL has been shedding ratifications as tensions mount across Terra. Li, whose many literary works utilize the theme of pacifism, has been a longstanding supporter of the international agreement first written by Lotus Party founder and democratic fighter Wu Hán.

In closing, Li commended the HDV for their commitment to building a peaceful multi-ethnic state, in stark contrast to the Nimitz regime of the early 4300s which plunged the nation into civil war on the basis of Hulstrian-supremacy.

"The transcendental national identity that comes from respect for multicultural diversity is the cornerstone of the Septembrist movement, and fundamental to assisting the great Crownlander Phoenix arise once more from the ashes," Li proclaimed to the crowd.

The world-renowned poet is also expected to attend a book signing in Kien before lecturing students at the Ferdinand I Imperial College.
