Jakanian production company evFilm scores success with Endralonian film Homokváros14 January 4776
The streaming service, production company and film distributor evFilm has achieved another critical success with the release of Endralonian war film
Homokváros. Having had its official premiere in December, the film has now received a wide release across the world and will eventually become available to evFilm subscribers in Jakania through their popular streaming service. Since its initial release the film has received praise from Endralonian and international critics for its bleak portrayal of war and human-focused story.
Bakos Milán served as the film's cinematographer and in doing so returned to Syldavian-language filmmaking for the first time in over a decade having worked primarily in MajatranHomokváros is based on the battle of the same name from the Second Endralonian Civil War. In an unusual narrative structure, the film follows a group of characters over the course of the events of the battle- rather than a single protagonist- to highlight their different perspectives. Despite the Jakanian company producing and distributing the film, most of the personnel involved were Endralonian including all of the principal cast. Director Szabó Lilla reunited with veteran cinematographer Bakos Milán for the film.
In recent years evFilm have increasingly attempted to target critical and awards success. As part of this strategy they have focused a greater portion of their original film production budget on international productions, most notably with the success of Academy Award-winning
Deltarian-Jakanian co-production Lost Space. At the same time the evFilm streaming service is now available in multiple countries outside of Jakania. Despite stiff competition from local rivals, the company is able to offer the service in five other locations so far with the expectation of more to come.
Within the Jakanian film sector the rise of evFilm has been incredibly disruptive to traditional production companies. Last year the company released over thirty original films for the domestic market, greater than the next three competitors. Despite the apparent threat that streaming services pose to the theatrical model, evFilm has been to work with traditional firms too. Last year they announced they would be partnering with Yeni Cumhuriyet (New Republic), an independent production company on a series of twelve titles spanning various genres.
