United Left secures it's first ever victory
Zeynep Aslan and BS form first left-wing government in centuries

"Today we make history. Today, we start change. Today, elites and rich lost, because people are tired, people are tired of corruption, poverty and unemployment. People wanted change, so they voted change. This is not just win of BS, this is win of people and left ideology at whole", - Zeynep Aslan said in her winning speech.
Weeks ago, jakanians came at polling stations, to once again vote for new Assembly and Government. This year, campaigns were fierce, with both siding accusing each other, and agitating to vote themselves. However, left opposition still had "corruption" accusement card in their hands. Yüce was still in power, and BS used it, to platform for reforms in judicial branch, as it wasn't successful in detaining and investigating Prime Minister.
KHP tried to campaign in district governorates, to take them back, however, it was unsuccessful, BS regional leaders and governors stayed in power, winning yet another term. What's even more interesting, Haftiye and Dokuz, traditionally KHP district almost elected BS candidate as it's governor.

With an elections ending, it's seems like KHP centuries-long governing over Jakania is in shambles. United Left, presenting itself as stable, strong and powerful opposition to liberal conservative KHP gave hope to millions of jakanians, that change is possible.

Zeynep Aslan already presented it's cabinet before Assembly. It was described by journalists as "record cabinet", that has more female than male ministers, 7 to 6, respectively. Also, cabinet has 6 minorities ministers, 4 kalopian and 2 majatran, respectively. Same day, it was approved by Assembly, with 335 votes for, 265 aganist.

Crimson Crisis
17 February 5130

Crimson Crescent Party goes through perhaps the biggest crisis of its history. Results of the 5130 general election marked the end of 44-year rule, the United Left secured governing majority with 335 seats, winning 56.47% of the popular vote. Now KHP is in chaos. This morning Chairman Zekeriya Yüce conceded the election in a short press conference, and resigned as the leader of the party. Many critics blame Yüce for the election defeat and his reluctance to step down even after the e-mail scandal. He is finally out of office, albeit 7 years later.

All eyes are on the extraordinary congress which is planned to be held on March 9th. The new leadership will face an existential crisis, where to lead the centre-right party, more conservative or liberal, a fundamental dilemma. One thing is certain though: Dominance days are over, KHP must take lessons from the 5130 elections and try to understand the will of the people.

United Left Seeks to Revoke the Immunity of Yüce
16 January 5136

Yet again, Zekeriya Yüce hits the headlines. Ministry of Justice filed a summary of proceedings against the former Prime Minister on corruption charges involving leaked e-mails known as "Zekeriya's Box". Now it is up to the Assembly of the Republic to revoke the parliamentary immunity of Mr Yüce, a deputy of the Assembly from Haftiye. The first session of the proceedings was marked by heated debate. Former Prime Minister lambasted the proposal and branded it as an attempt to further the leftist political agenda.

"This dastardly partisan attack against me is completely illegal and will go down in history as a total disgrace. Honourable Minister of Justice knows as well, I imagine, that the e-mails in question were unlawfully obtained and cannot be counted as evidence. It is such a shame to abuse this sacred Assembly to further your vicious political agenda. I have nothing to hide, and in knowing that I am already acquitted by the national will in 5126 elections, will stand firm against the left."

The Assembly is expected to vote along the party lines and revoke the parliamentary immunity of Zekeriya Yüce. The trial will not begin straightaway as Mr Yüce has the right to appeal to the Constitutional Court. Being an unprecedented event in Jakanian politics, undoubtedly it will occupy the headlines for a long while.

Government vs. Zekeriya Yüce
Deputy Minister of Justice Emirhan Şahin announced start a series of trials aganist former PM Yüce on corruption charges

On ordinary session of Assembly, deputy justice minister Şahin announced criminal proceedings against former PM and KHP Chairperson Zekeriya Yüce, filed on corruption charges involving leaked e-mails by journalists/activists, also known as "Zekeriya's Box".

gözlemci will remind the story: 13 years ago, then-Prime Minister Yüce became a face of corruption scandal, involving him, his wife and then-KHP deputy Sonat District leader Yeşim Ergeçer received 79,510 Jakanian liras for her study on the placement of street signs, according to some emails. Other emails feature wife of former Prime Minister, who recieved a handbag made out of crocodile leather as a gift from a prosecutor, as a thanks for her involvement with his promotion, - once again, according to leaked emails.

Now, as BS entered it's second term being in government, talks about prosecuting Mr. Yüce within the party activated, as party won elections on the promise of change and anti-corruption reforms. So, Ministry of Justice filed a summary of proceedings, that was created in cooperation with lawyers, activists and anti-corruption organisations. However, Government needed to revoke parliamentary immunity of Yüce, since he's still a member of the Assembly, sp it did. One-party BS majority voted unanimously on the proposal, thus making former PM an easy target for criminal courts.

While on joint briefing of head and deputy justice ministers, justice minister Yağmur said that "government will make everything in it's abilities to make sure justice is served". When asked deputy minister Şahin , if Government succeeded in the case against Mr. Yüce, would it go forward in criminal proceedings aganist former government members, minister answered: "Only if we will have proper evidence, and Assembly approval". On the other side, Yüce came up with an aggressive speech towards Government and BS, when Assembly debated on the revoking of parliamentary immunity of former KHP chairperson: "This dastardly partisan attack against me is completely illegal and will go down in history as a total disgrace.

However, trials won't happen right away, as Yüce still has the right to appeal the Assembly's decision in Constitutional Court of Jakania. If Deputy from Haftiye won't appeal the decision in Court, we might soon observe first-ever trial on corruption charges againist politician, especially this high level.

Constitutional Court Rejects Yüce's Appeal
5 October 5137

The Constitutional Court today announced the verdict on Former Prime Minister Zekeriya Yüce's appeal against Assembly of the Republic's decision to remove the parliamentary immunity of him. The 7-4 ruling by the Court rejected the appeal, thus paving the way for opening criminal proceedings against the former Prime Minister. General Prosecutor Office is expected to subpoena Mr Yüce in a matter of days. Deputy Chair of the Crimson Crescent Party Faik Sunay issued a short press statement regarding the decision.

"Crimson Crescent Party respects the Court's decision and has utmost trust in Jakanian judicature's ability to serve justice. We will continue to support our former chairman against the slander campaign of the United Left."

Former Minister of Justice Vedat Koç will head the legal team that will represent Yüce in the upcoming trial. Koç served as minister in first and second Yüce cabinets and headed the ministry during the e-mail scandal. A renowned scholar, he was dean of Temiz Ozkan University Faculty of Law from 5114 to 5120.

Yüce Trial Suspended
13 February 5138

The trial of former Prime Minister Zekeriya Yüce was formally suspended today on the grounds of his reacquired parliamentary immunity as he was re-elected as a deputy for Haftiye of the newly sworn in 64th Assembly of the Republic. In order to continue the trial, parliamentary immunity of Yüce must be removed again in the Assembly. What will happen from now on is uncertain. First of all, a new government must be formed.

5138 elections took many pollsters and commentators by surprise. Newly refounded Jakania Forward! won nearly half of popular vote and gained 294 seats in the parliament, falling short of majority by only 7 seats. Prime Minister Zeynep Aslan's United Left lost 200 seats, while main opposition Crimson Crescent Party continued its trend of losing seats, coming third in terms of votes and seats. Leader of the Opposition and KHP leader Merve Kalkan announced her resignation and called for an extraordinary party congress. As the leadership of KHP once again changes, coalition talks will be delayed for some time. Position of the Jakania Forward! will be the deciding factor, and according to rumours, a unity government comprising all three parties will be the preferred choice of CI!.

Conservative Tyranny
23 February 5140

So-called national unity government, in fact far-right conservative hegemony, yet again adopted a disastrous decision: To develop biological and chemical weapons. Why do we need those weapons? The answer is simple: We don't. Two reasons might be the real motive: Receiving cash from arms industry lobby, or to involve Jakania in a new conflict. Both are detestable.

Every new law that was adopted by this "national unity" cabinet moves Jakania backwards. Now open homosexuality is not tolerated in the military. Use of land mines is allowed. Refugees are no longer welcome. And now the new target is same-sex marriage. Even the United Left is in cahoots with CI! and KHP.

When will you say "No!" Jakania? We are afraid it is too late.

"We Hold Substantial Power"
4 November 5141

Deputy Prime Minister and the chairman of the Crimson Crescent Party Orhan Kazak spoke to Mukavemet about the current political landscape.

Mr Deputy Prime Minister, your party has dominated Jakanian politics for decades, usually coming first in terms of votes. What is your opinion regarding KHP's recent election performance?

Crimson Crescent Party is a long-established, deep-rooted political party. It has seen many elections and no doubt it became vulnerable. Change is inevitable, and we were late to realise it. Jakanian people wanted other parties to take the helm of the country, but at the same time put KHP in a moderating position, as a protector of the republic. We might be the third party, but we hold substantial power nonetheless.

Recently founded Homeland Movement party seems to jeopardise your coalition with Jakania Forward!. Your parliamentary groups have voted the opposite on some bills, do you think the government is in danger of collapsing?

There is no danger whatsoever at the moment. As a result of our meetings with Prime Minister, we have decided to let our parliamentary groups to vote according to their party's official policy, since the bills were doomed to fail with United Left votes. Of course we have a difference of opinion with Jakania Forward on many matters, but we are committed to operate a stable government until the end of term.

BS and KHP voted the same on many proposals. Would you consider a coalition with BS if the current government collapsed?

As I have said, we are committed to our coalition protocol with Jakania Forward. We are focused on serving our nation to the best of our abilities.

KHP delivered most of its political agenda during the term of national unity government, and you were accused of bringing down the cabinet by doing that. What are your opinions regarding it?

Like today, in 5138 people voted for a conservative majority, and we simply fulfilled the responsibility that was vested upon us. I see the reason behind United Left's decision to withdraw from the government, you must see the reason behind our decision to implement conservative legislation as well.

Thank you Deputy Prime Minister.

Thank you.

Left Coalition Retains Majority
16 June 5152

Jakanian people went to the polls yesterday for parliamentary and presidential election. According to the preliminary results, United Left and Humankind retained majority with their combined 348 seats in the Assembly. Opposition Crimson Crescent Party, on the other hand, came first in terms of votes, gaining 252 seats albeit losing 15 compared to previous election. KHP leader Orhan Kazak congratulated Prime Minister Viktoria Korakaki on her election victory. Ms Korakaki is expected to announce her cabinet in a week, but it will be delayed almost certainly due to the presidential election, as it will likely require a second round since no candidate is projected to win a majority. Incumbent President Fehmi el-Zadeh is projected to come first in terms of votes with 40% of the popular vote. He is followed by former President Filiz Ateş with 36% of the popular vote. Although symbolically, the President is tasked with inviting a deputy of the Assembly to form government. Ms Korakaki will have to wait until the office is filled. Nonetheless it seems the left will govern Jakania for another 4 years.
